Richard Carel Keijner, was born into the dog game. His father was a man stepped in the molosser dog breeds. With all the exposure to breeds like the Rottweiler, Doberman, Dogue De Bordeaux and many other large breeds, Richard fell in love and dedicated himself to the Presa Canario. The breed is raw and powerful but in the right home, a trusted companion and protector.
The breed standard calls for, The Presa Canario is a moderately large, powerfully constructed dog with a harsh- textured, flat coat. The head is massive and cuboid. Ears are set just above the line of the eye and may be cropped, naturally pendent or rose. The body of the Presa Canario is slightly longer than its height at the withers, with a broad, deep chest, but females may be slightly longer and possess somewhat less rib spring than the males. Skin is thick and elastic. The distance from the withers to the elbow is roughly equal to the distance from the elbow to the ground. The tail is very thick at the base, and tapers to a point. The tail is moderately high and reaches to the hock. The overall impression is that of an imposing, solid guard dog.
Males stand 23-26 inches at the withers, with females standing 22-25 inches. Minimum weight for males is 100 pounds and 85 pounds for females. The acceptable colors for Presa are any shade of fawn, black, and brindle in any combination of these colors. The face must have a black or dark brown mask that does not extend over the eyes with oath without a white blaze or patch on the head.
By nature the Presa Canario is an affectionate, confident, and powerful guardian breed. This combination, means the breed is not for everyone. They are affectionate which means human contact is necessary for a balance and social Presa. The breed is confident which mean they don’t back down from challenges and can be dominant over perceived weakness. They are powerful which could mean serious liability if your Presa engages in an attack or an animal or human. They are a guardian breed and therefore should be weary of strangers, and will not hesitate to defend what they considered to be in their domain.
A responsible owner will socialize and obedience train his Presa from an early age. He will also provide ample physical exercise and consistent rules and regulations.
The presa is a working breed and will need considerable exercise and a home with a yard is recommended.
The breed bonds strongly with family members but should never be left alone, unsupervised with small children.
The temperament of every dog should be considered on an individual basis, it is wise to be aware of the documented history of aggression displayed by some dogs of the breed.
The breed has a life expectancy of 9-11 years.

I own a Presa Canario and I will never own another breed of dog again. My daughter was four years old and my son was nine when we got her. Instantly our Presa was best friends with our daughter and inseparable. Our Presa peed in the house twice, after the second time I gave her a verbal scolding and never again did she do it, learned basic sit, shake, lay down commands quicker than any other breed we owned. She by far is the most intelligent dog we have. We are anxiously awaiting another next month from this gentleman in the video Rick. This breed from him is just incredible and I couldn't say enough on the honesty and integrity Rick and his family have with this breed. I was intimidated myself by the dogs he had in his yard and my daughter was as well and she is pretty fearless. Rick said "Come in, don't be scared, promise on my life nothing will happen." Within five minutes my kids were running with his Presa's in way that it looked as if the dogs were watching over them. She does an amazing job by staying alert and aware of her surroundings especially when strangers are around. I dunno, of course I'm bias but Rick will give you 100% honesty and holds dear where his puppies end up. I sent him photos of my house, the inside, and out along along with how big my backyard was. Don't be surprised if he says no if you live in an apartment. Rick doesn't push out litter after litter from his females, he's not into the breeding to make handfuls of cash. Thank you for making our family whole with our Presa Rick, we look forward to our new family member soon. Great video you guys.
I live in an apartment...my next dog may be a presa....but more than likely a rott...I may get it from Rick....but probably not because he will probably say no...but you don't know unless you try right? 😂
@@inputname2727 Large dog breeds need more space in order to run around when you aren't home. Putting a large dog breed in an apartment could cause destructive behavioral problems; as well as mental issues.
Where did u find your presa?
Same here. Just a fantastic dog.
Nick Flinga wow great to know that there are breeders with integrity and honesty out there! So glad that he’s like that
This guy is incredibly educated its crazy incredible respect to this man
Same here, not a whole lot of people that what it takes to have these dogs
Didn't know Tony Ferguson loved presa canarios 😆
Dodo 365 boogie man
It's Tony's Spirit Animal.
This whole time I was like there's something about this dude but I don't know what it is. It's Tony fucking Ferguson lmao
who is Tony Ferguson? UFC fighter?
How do you know that Presa Canario is Tony Ferguson's favorite dog?
The most interesting breeder you may have interviewed yet. Knowledgeable, entertaining, and most importantly very unbiased when talking about the dog. Great video.
Do anyone know of a good presa breeders?
my 8 months old Presa Canario ruclips.net/video/JiNpp4c-pXc/видео.html
@@0813m4d very hard to find a good presa breeder that isnt breeding for certain aesthetics, which normally reduces the life span, took me a year to find a breeder I trusted and was able to meet the parents and regular updates etc, I can send you his way if you wish?
@Ross Evan, hey how r u doing, Can you give me your source thanx in advance
@@rossevans3488 hello, im also looking for a responsible breeder if you are willing to share
This is one of the best interviewee. He doesn't want these dogs to be judged or raised as the ferocious heartless protection guard dogs but an overall good dogs , like other breeders do for these kind of dog breeds to look more hefty, more scary and all , rather this breeder likes them to be like a working dog , the one who is an all round dog. That's pretty rare to be honest
Mr. I'm from Gran Canaria, and I really love the way how you describe the Presa... Thanks!!!
@barry ohara I'm from Spain, from Gran Canaria in Canary islands the island where they come from... And yes, it wasn't only for fight, it was a multi purpose dog, Canary islands are very tiny but we have a very mountainous terrain so the dog was for guard, fight, grazing , hunt......but here real fights in that times didn't used to be very usually to see because no one wants to see his dogs wounded... The properly word here is to that kind of fight make a "pechá" that is a vulgarism of the word "pecho" (chest)and it means a kind of fight between the dogs only to see his skills without many injuries. About that other dogs maybe you are talking about the Bardino.... Bershino is not a Spanish word. The Bardino is not extinct actually a few years ago I used to have one, his name was Faycan, the extinct dogs of the Canarias were the Canchas and the Tibicenas. Ancient dogs which lives in ancient times.
I Lost My Presa Sept 19th...I Adopted her From a Rescue group...Her Name was Cheyanne...She was 14.5 years old non ear cropped...Cool Video...I Miss her every single day...Had her 13,5 years she was a year old when I saved her..Thanks for Video
Respect to you my friend
😭 so sad to hear that bro, really it is.
Hurts like hell when they go 🐶😢
😢😢
I adopted a presa too from a shelter, he was 18 months old (last Christmas Eve).. I must confess I was afraid because of the size (because I have an old American bulldog 11years old ) and when I bring him home HE WAS SO GENTLE AND RESPECTFUL with my old AB It’s amazing 🤩 it’s a gentle giant..
These have a lot more energy than the cane corso, people keep comparing the two but they're so different
See That is something I don’t hear people talking about....you always hear how the Cane is such an athletic mastiff but never that a presa is much higher energy levels
My corso wears out my Presa on the daily 🙆♂️
Yes they are different but they a very much the same dog in alot of category
Completely different. Presa has a more dominant personality, fire, and is an independent thinker. Corsos are more attached, and has no where near as much energy which makes them easier to train along with the fact they love to please. Both are great guard dogs.
I own both. Presa is the better all around dog.
@@Blackox812 I haven't owned either of those breeds, but just observing videos of them it appears that the Presa is an extremely alert dog, while the Cane Corso appears to be sleepy and less alert. I also just have the impression that the Cane Corso would be a deep, hard sleeper that might allow an intruder to sneak by, as long as the intruder doesn't knock over a lamp or something. Alertness is a necessary trait in a good family guard dog, on top of intelligence, sensitivity, and power.
i grew up with dobermans. we always had at least 2 in the house. now i have my love, my girl, my best friend for life. my Presa. These dogs are not for everyone but for me, for our family, she is everything.
Beth Slaughter the most important is to find the dog that perfectly matches to us. I personally prefer Doberman's *(forever)*
Never had an presa.. I think you've found presa as your favourite breed, but why?
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm sure you'd say that for any dog you own. I do have a favorite but any dog I have I would grow to love even if I never own my favorite breeds. I'm not hating but how generic is it to say you love your dog? I mean it's usually looked at as a family member so even if you've gotten a shih tzu you'd love it regardless. Just my useless views. Sorry
@@maurice2014 naw I only love my Pitt ain't got no time for no shyu 😂
@@inputname2727 shyu?
Bruh!!!!! You are a God!!! Don't EVER let ANYONE talk you out of it. You're a great human.
My dad had a Presa / Great Dane mix. He was a huge dog! He passed away in Sept. 2018, so it inspired me to get a purebreed Presa Canario. I was able to get a female, fawn brindle, for a good price. I've had her 3 months now (she's 5 months old) and I am very happy. She is so smart, loving, and protective. Very glad I got a Presa, she learns very quick and she is best friends with my older dog, an 11 y/o lab/pit mix.
Is your oldest dog male or female? Just wondering, cause you know how a lot of dogs don't like to see their same gender walk in the front door. Didn't know if this breed was different. I don't know anything yet, but, I'm learning, cause I would love to own one in the future.
@@juliemcdaniel4937 My Presa is a female. I wasn’t leaving my office (if you’re talking about the video on my page), so I don’t care if she comes in and out as she pleases. She is extremely independent, but she is devoted to following my orders. I’ll never not own a Presa, this breed is the real deal.
@@juliemcdaniel4937 I misread your question. My older dog was a male. They got along good. When she was young he’d boss her around, but once she got a little bigger, she wouldn’t take any shit from him. I put him down 6/7 of his year, he was 15 years old. My Presa is now 4 and I’m in the process of trying to breed her as we speak.
The Presa will forever be front and centre to my love for mastiffs. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Rick.
Unlimited respect for people like these
Beautiful, as always great dogumentary
One of the videos that led me to becoming a presa owner
Beautiful dogs! The way they move, cat-like, wonderful.
My Presa pounces like a lion, and jumps like a dolphin. So beautiful.
I am very impressed with thos man. Very knowledgeable.
my nephew got one of these last year shes real good dog. only listens to one person.
they are very very distrusting in strangers they hate them . when she was 7 months she was already yapping at people and things that went by the yard. they require firmness not harshness. training they have good memory to.
😊
Beautiful dogs. Great short documentary on this breed. "Raw" exactly describes the Presa. My Presa is the most obedient, well behaved dog i've had the pleasure of owning. Very attentive, intelligent, & loyal. ..A very affectionate companion breed, & more
His dogs are FREAKING beautiful
I own a male Presa Canario that I imported from Europe. The best and most capable dog I've ever owned hands down, I've owned German line Rottweilers, pit bulls, etc. I love all dogs and breeds! Cool video..
Why is it the best amd most capable?
I looooooove how he distinguishes them from the other big mastiff breeds. I feel like a lot of times people just say, "oh i just really like this breed more." He talked about how this breed is more willing to attack as part of its guarding instead of just alerting. Great interview/video!!!!
I love this video. Very responsible. Presa forever
I love my presas 🥰🥰🥰
I am extremely grateful for people like you that want to breed a healthy dog with a good temperament.
Best breed in the world! My two boys I’m so great full for ❤️
Great video! Great looking dogs! Love how you go into detail about the breed and their temperaments. And the responsibility in owning a Presa! Keep it up!
Honest description of an impressive breed. What gorgeous specimens he has. Thanks for the upload 👍🏼
I just got a presa 4 days ago he's absolutely beautiful
Fine vid mr we have the same thing in common with presa canario and love of dogs. 👍😎 Richi islas canarias 🌴🐾🐾
My presa has not long turned one, she is the most loving dog you can come across, but can flip and be the most protective dog if it was needed, definitely looking at keeping with this breed as I cannot fault them one bit.
wise words, respect sir
Just rescued a presa..had aastiff for 8 years..I have been amazed at the athleticism of the breed
Damn...these dogs are in such good shape!!
I own 2 presa’s. I love everything about the breed. Great video.
U need to do more videos on this breed ❤️
Had a presa for 13 years and breaks my heart we no longer have her only dog we have owned and never regretted having such a lovely loyal pet 😢
My brother has a cane corso, 4 months old. I’m actually pet sitting him as I watch this video
The description of the presa’s temperament sounds exactly like this little guy. Super loving but will become protective at the drop of a dime
Cane corso are a much softer dog, presa are much harder dogs with a good breeder example Irema Curto
Yea canes are nice but presas look better to me. I like milky way kennels from romania. But this guy has a good line too.👌
Il be waiting i called out of work for this💯💯. 5hrs im rolling up and watching this best RUclips dog channel. 💯💯💯💯

Richard Carel Keijner a true dog man , great video.
Is an incredible dog. Im from Spain i had one years ago and now i have a male and a female
I owned a Presa and it was the most rewarding experience ever! It moved and looked like a cat that people and especially children, thought it was a cat
Love this dogs. I have 7 of them.
got a fawn male 140 pound and a brindle female 110 pound. most protective yet loving big dogs
absouloutley right fabulous knowledge owned my first one from fully established dog imported super drive never had a problem thanks for your advice wish others would take it on board
I have a fawn Presa but he’s very rare . 2 and a half years old 160lb . He towers everything and absolutely perfect. The muscles are crazy his back legs look like race horse legs
Been Waitin on this for a while
Yeah I have a Presa Canario too he's very energetic
I love Presa Canario's♥️🐕♥️They are awesome, strong, protective, Sweet and loving. Right now the breed is more than I can handle. Thanks for the great documentary Zeke!
Robert Cordes Is it because of health conditions or it’s just too much “dog”?
Great video! I wish there were more breeders like this guy, who truly cares and loves there breeds!
His dogs are beautiful!!!!!!
Bravo sir!!! Fantastic discussion and touched on the important topics of owning this breed. My guy Hemi is 9. 5th "Mastiff" I've owned. By far the best dog I've ever owned. Just got him a female companion a month ago, she is fitting in just great!!
Beautiful breed. Great video. There are no bad breeds, just really bad owners. Keep showcasing these phenomenal dogs.
I appreciate that there are breeders as yourself that are not in it just for the money but to change the current state of the breed. i want one but because I rent it is hard to have one. but i pray that all changes so i can finally get to love n be loved by one.
Love this breed! I have met a few going through rescue and they are so smart but their size needs to be respected. I find them a fascinating breed and can see how they turn into a life time interest.
Please more presas
Beautiful looking dogs . They are all handsome but I like the brindle coat. This chap sounds very knowledgeable about mastiff type dogs without being boastful or pretentious.
Well said my friend well said!
This gentlemen is exactly what this breed needs to continue I own a presa and its deff not a breed for the commen folks
Great Dogs !
I love my Presa.
Love the presa and your Channel ❤️
Can you do more presa Canario Videos pls?
The word he was looking for is gameness
The most important thing with any breed is GOOD CHARACTER the absolutely most important thing. These dogs need to be trained properly, handled with care and socialised from a very young age. Only get dogs like these from a reliable and responsible breeder!
Nice, I remember when I was a kid and this breed was still being worked on , I was heavily into APBT's and the older Dogmen used to tell us about what these guys where breeding into them , same goes for the Cane corso. They did a fine job these Old timer's, beautiful looking Dog's
Yesssss I have a Presa
Brittney Brown me too
1stLinePresa 👌👌
@DogumentaryTv
Thanks for producing this video. Another great one as usual.
Finally a Presa that looks like a Presa. Big respect to the breeder. The majority of Presa's I see lately seem to have the ham bone beer belly . I was beginning to think the breed had evolved into that but these ones are like a cool to my eyes to see such articulate specimens.. I am a Corso guy but if I was going to get into Presa. This would definitely be the breeder I would choose. What is this breeders kennel called?
Great interview!
I love this black puppy
keep it authentique👏👏👏💪💪
Fantastic video!! Amazing dogs!
Thanks for a doing another episode on the Presa Canario it's good to learn more about my dogs. I just got a litter of puppies. 🐶❤
They are really beautiful breed wish I can have one oneday.
Fascinating breed. Responsible commentary. I've raised pit bulls and bullies for 40 years. I feel your concerns viscerally. I'm interested in presas.

Thanks Zeke.
Another great video bro. You guys keep producing gold!
I love this dude. Rick Keijner is by far the best interviewee Zeke has interviewed. I really want to get my first Presa Canario from Richard Keijner.
How do I reach a person in the video you can tell me bro
Very informative beautiful dogs.
Excellent !
They are working dogs, they don't live to lick owners bums and wait for commands these dogs need to work for them to feel complete. Very unique breed the Presa canario amazing dogs and only dog i will ever have as a mate
Awesome video with lots of good information. The breeder was honest and really informative.

YEP, HE'S TELLING THE TRUTH, VERY INTELLIGENT DOG WHO LOVES THE HELL OUT OF KIDS, BUT WILL TEAR AN ADULT A NEW ONE.
This is Awesome! I love my Presa, he is so good with my girls. Thank you for making this video
Beautiful dogs..keep it coming...
You are cool and the dogs two. Greetings from Germany.
My parents were breeders of presa de canario. We had alot of them. In holland!
Love all your Video's and the information. So glad a friend of mine recommented you. Thank you for doing the video on Pharaoh Hound.
With that said, I really would love to have a Presa, however, it definitely not the breed for me. I'm not strong enough or have the proper training. Smart enough to know what I can and can't handle.
My Pharoah Hound wasn't the breed for me but I did a lot of training with him (I got the training not him, I got more corrections - LOL) I hired a personal trainer then we went to classes. But I was able to be educated and we worked it out and became a team. He was my heart and soul. I love all my dogs but he owned my heart.
Woman's best friend too ... I own a male persa and his my boy .. some breeders say they aren't a loving breed but I disagree massively cause my boy loves cuddles and kisses .. I was raised with rottweilers as a child and my presa fit me straight away
