I’ve got a saluki-cross-collie and his prey drive and speed is quite incredible. I’ve never seen a dog as fast over a large area. We rescued him from a shelter in the North of England and he will attempt to hunt most things inc. foxes, rabbits etc. He is however so soft, loving and brilliant with other dogs and children. An amazing dog but not for the inexperienced dog owner.
we have a lot of salukis near me (northern England) and its minus 5 c . they are very fast dogs and a good one will kill a fox so a pair should see of a coyote no danger.
they perform well in cold weather , it just that they cant take it for long hunts , gotta keep them warm and well feed ( sensitive muscles just like any fast creature , they tend to loose weight exceptionally fast ( high metabolism)
Can't take long hunts? Lol! Must have been particularly unfit Salukis you have met - they are the marathon greyhound! Believe me, I've hunted them on horseback for years, endurance is their sine qua non!
I would get a saluki greyhound cross. breeding clubs have ruined the saluki at least her in England anyway. mine has a jacket for cold weather but only wears it when standing waiting to run.
@@CityofShamballah My English saluki bitch was clocked at 40mph and she wasn't even trying hard. Some of the 'show' lines may be slow but certainly not all.
Type Jen No it's not ! A resent study shows that this hound was Egyptian breed and Egyptians offerd this breed to the Maltese people as a gift not the other way around !
A goot stag hound would be better! go on the hunting life and look up dan edwards and stuntman they are from the US and they run stags! looking the the lurcher at work section on the hunting life!
Depends on your ground and your game MrGT! Your Staghound would be completely stuffed after 10 mins on soft sand and 30 on high mountain rock/loose scrub whereas the Saluki would be useless on larger game in denser vegetation/open steep hillsides. that said, I ran a Scottish deerhound bitch on a hunt with Saluki's and a Borzoi once and she was very impressive! Lurchers, tho, are not so different to the stronger mountain type of Saluki, as opposed to the ones you see on these desert videos. You might like them! Lol! Post a vid of your Stag Hound mate!
Yes they can catch Coyotes but for the COLD I would suggest Afghan Hounds. Though even Siberian Huskies kept outside in inclement weather can cause the owner to be CHARGED so no dog really should be in humanely cold weather.
krazzysu go out and stop every predator from feeding. guess what wolves and coyotes do to pregnant sows... put it this way. the farmer usually kills the sow.
Horse riding is worse than a four wheeler as far as cheating goes. At least put some effort into the hunt. Since opening day of turkey I've put in 12 days of 8 hours a day. Walked over 6 miles each day. Legs are hurting, waist line is so much smaller I've lost 6 pant sizes. Wake up at 4 am daily. These guys use dogs camels and all sorts of nonsense. Not hunting it's slaughtering.
That's a beautiful little Saluki Puppy.
The show ring will only weaken this marvelous breed. They must work.
The World’s kennel clubs ruin types of useful canines again and again.
@@stephenspencer8224 The laws are different now as well..Hunting with hounds of any type Illegal in UK.. except for rat and rabbit.
I've had saluki cross greyhounds since 1978
The king of all dogs 😎

I had a couple of saluki crosses back in the early 90s..i took 53muntjac deer in 3seasons..they loved a fox too..

This was a really good doco I wish National Geographic would do interesting stuff like this once in a while these days.
I love my ancestor and my people✊🏽
Thanks for the upload.

AWESOME!!!

Buy an IMPORT. The Borzoi took a huge decline due to show breeders here in the USA.
UK salukis run shitty. like 30 mph. Salukis in Arabia average 41-42 mph. English Salukis run around 29-31 mph. Very poor.

al Horr means the pure one not noble one.
actually Al Horr means the free one
yes isnt this on Disney plus
What saluki owners cant stand to admit is the pointed ear dogs in Egypt before saluki was the greyhound.
No, that breed is the pharaoh hound. Stick to painting Bob Ross.
The Pharaoh Hound is from Malta and has no connection to Ancient Egypt despite the name.

The English greyhound has no relation to the ancient Egyptian dogs of the same type.
With the money they have they could restore the wildlife like Texas then have something to hunt

they were bred for hunting..
Fox hunted by dogs, wooow

Lmao a lot of salt in the comment section.
Will these dogs catch coyotes, and can they take some cold weather?
Nicki Hughes No to both.

Too blurry and hard to follow
Cruelty has many forms. This is barbaric and sad.

A mutt in american suburbia having nothing to live for is cruelty

PhilJr This guy should be using his bare hands instead of a shotgun if he wants to show us how a real hunter hunts.Shotgun on turkey is cheating.
a successful predator uses any to their advantage.
