    In today's episode we return to the house after 6 weeks away over Christmas and New Year. We get back to a significantly colder Piemonte, with temperatures below freezing at night. With no heating at the house we make it a priority to install a wood burning stove to try and warm ourselves up.
    We also have the mountain of building waste removed and get our garden back after 7 months!
    Our Story:
    We sold our apartment in Stockholm, packed up the car and headed for Piemonte. After a couple of months searching for the right house we came across Our Italian Dream House and immediately made an offer. Four weeks later (just three days before Christmas) we signed the contract and had the keys.
    It's now early 2022 and we have begun work on the epic renovation that stands before us. We are mortgage free and have a very limited budget so plan to take on as much of the renovation ourselves as possible - follow us on our journey as we turn an abandoned Italian farmhouse into our dream home.

    We put in a woodstove as auxillary heat but love it so much we use it exclusively. There were many dead trees on our property when we purchased it so we have years worth of wood stored in the shop. It's glorious. :)

The highlight of the video was me was when Edward said, "it's dark, scary and lots of cob webs and I am going back down" that made me laugh, because I was feeling that same thing. Very nice to see all your projects here in beautiful Piemonte. Living a few kilometers south of you I watched all of your adventures. Can I only share my concerns about the the chimney installation in this video? I noticed that the insulation stops about 15 cm below of the zinc plate on the roof and there is no insulation next to very old and very dry wood from the roof. The chimney gets very (!) hot and fire is a serious risk here! The same goes for passing the floors although that all seems to be stone. Also the pipe should be installed the other way around because when the pipe cools down condensation water can arise on the inside of the tube. If the upper part is inside the lower part the water stays inside. The way you installed it the very black water can get out of the tube and leave very nasty residue on you beautiful painted walls. I don't want to be overly critical, but I also would kick myself if I didn't say a thing and in a next video disaster strikes... Keep up the good work! All the best.

    • @OurItalianDreamHouse
      @OurItalianDreamHouse  Год назад

      Thanks so much for this helpful information, definitely appreciate that you decided to send the message. I've since been up in the loft and wrapped the top-most piece of chimney tube with insulation. I also added a smoke alarm up there, not that it's much help once things are burning but at least we'll get a warning and be able to get out of the house and call the fire brigade if s#*t does his the fan.
      One thing that you're totally right about is the black liquid seeping through the joins, but the strange thing is that the installation guide with the tubes said to do it the way that I have. There is already a bit of liquid visibly coming down the outside of the tubes, so I'm not sure what to do there. Perhaps just invert the whole tube installation and swap the fitting on the stove from male to female?
      Anyway, we really do appreciate your message, sometimes constructive criticism is exactly what is needed. Especially for novices like us :)

    • @BuildAndRepair
      @BuildAndRepair Год назад

      Good to hear you took care of the insulation, and with the alarm you should be safe. On my wood burner I started with a black female-female coupler and worked from there. On the inox parts you can use (or might have used already) rubber o-rings to close the joint. The good thing is that you can use all the parts you have already to change it. Just one or two new couplers and some work.
      Good luck with all the other projects! All the best, Jeroen
