  • Greetings, Historians! Today, I'm talking about an element that perhaps has even more uses than we see in the Legend of Spyro trilogy: the element of Ice.

    I always wanted to see more Dragon types in Spyro’s like Wyvern’s, Ground Dragons (Dragons without wings but are more for ground travelsal (think Bash from Skylanders) and Sea Dragons (Dragons that don’t have wings but can go underwater)

    I had ideas for a fancomic when I was younger, and I had a lot of ideas for how Ice works in it and what sort of relationship it has with the Water Element. I think that while it is true that literal ice features so heavily in the Element that it's synonymous with it, the Element of Ice is really pure cold itself. The reason why ice shows up in almost everything the Ice Element does is because water is everywhere in the atmosphere, even in the driest places. The pure cold of the Ice Element instantly precipitates water in the air into ice, and by manipulating how the cold is generated, can shape the ice however way an Ice dragon pleases, whether it's a snowy breath, freezing the surface of water for walking on, or spikes or ice for spearing enemies with. As a result, an Ice dragon could theoretically use their breath anywhere, even in dry locales since they can simply skip the ice and freeze opponents solid. However, they might prefer being in more humid environments so that they could have plenty of evaporated water to freeze. They probably would even find cold deserts, like the one in real life Mongolia, unpleasant to be in because while they can get as cold as the arctic, they would be too dry to make ice in.
    The Water Element would obviously be closely related, in that while "ice" is the state of anything being solid, most people think of water when they think of ice. While it is possible that one might actually be a derivative of the other, going what I said above, I think that the Elements of Ice and Water are separate, but intrinsically linked. Ice and Water dragons probably like to live in a lot of the same places, with the relationships between both groups probably varying wildly from locale to locale. In some places they could be allied and see each other as Elemental "siblings", in others one rules over the other, and in yet others they clash over space, resources and simply over not liking each other.

    There seems to be some parallels between the water element presented here and that which appears in Avatar: The Last Airbender, right down to manipulating body fluid and drawing moisture from the air. The similarities raise a question of just to what extent a dragon of any element in the legend of spyro continuity is able to manipulate elements outside their body, as well as within.

      Yeah, honestly it seems like at least outside of the games, elements are much less redistricted and can do stuff like in Avatar. Honestly, it’s a shame that was never able to be shown in something akin to a book or a show, would’ve been really cool to see just for now it could be used.

    Ice was always my least favorite element besides the tail blade in eternal night it was pretty interesting to have most of them have more physical attacks then long ranged

    I remember the water element from Spyro hero's tail and how boring it was to use so I understand the ice element is more cool to use (pun intended)

    There are other games in the Spyro universe where Spyro users water and wind in place of ice, and the lightning was purple in one of them

    I wonder how many elements exist in Spyro that we don’t know about? Is their anything that involves Wood, Crystal, Metal, Glass, Sound, Paper, Energy and etc?

    • @spyro563
      @spyro563 Год назад

      Well Wood and Paper could be faces of a Nature Element.
      Crystal, Metal, Glass are all byproducts and are linked to the Earth Element.
      Sound might actually be linked to the Fear Element Cynder wields as many of the upgrades reference this.
      Energy might actually be the main element with Electricity one of its sub-elements.

      @@spyro563 I think the Spyro series could benefit from sub elements though I wonder how you would explain certain elements like Light and Darkness since you know Aether exists

    It's probably a total coincidence, but from what we can gather about Ice Dragon culture from Cyril (with them being pompous and elitist), they actually line up fairly well with the IceWing tribe from the "Wings of Fire" book series.
