  • This is my food safe finishing process. it's simple but effective and can be used on bowls at the lathe or on furniture with a slight variation: when using beeswax on furniture I recommend using 1 part beeswax to 4 parts oil (walnut or boiled linseed oil)
This type of wood finish is:
    easy to apply
looks great because it adds depth to the color of wood
    easy to repair
it's cost effective because you could use one, two, or three of the materials. even if you use all 3 is inexpensive when compared with many other finishes - especially if you need to wait long periods of time for a finish to cure. for me the fact that these finishes don't have a strong smell is also helpful!
    Materials used:
walnut oil (boiled linseed oil / BLO works too)
    shellac (1 pound cut)
    beeswax
I used to use mineral oil, but it never dries. I've also used boiled linseed oil, it's durable but can smell strong until cured. I prefer walnut oil as it's also used in salads so I know it's food safe even when it isn't cured, and doesn't have a smell. when walnut oil cures, it does get hard similar to boiled linseed oil.

I have been using walnut oil for a long time. Haven't seen many others doing so. There are so many useless vids out there on different, unnecessary products when all you need is to keep it simple. Natural oils and natural wax.
