A fascinating interview with Len Deighton! Unlike these days, the interviewee is actually permitted to speak without being constantly interrupted. Len Deighton deserves to be in the same league as John Le Carre and Ian Fleming.

In a way I think Len Deighton's approach to writing is very similar to William Somerset-Maugham's in that they both believe the role of the writer is to entertain their reader. Both adopt a very professional approach to their writing and also are/were disciplined in the way they approach the writer's craft. I am now reading the Harry Palmer series after having finished The Berlin Game, a series of which I will return to at a later date.
