The starrett has a spring in the screw, meaning you don't need to fasten the screw all the way, it will hold fast, but then if you need to move the ruler, you can pull down the screw, and it will loosen the grip on the ruler for quick readjusting, then let go and the ruler is once again held fast.
I have watched 3-4 of your videos and I like them all. I think you should keep posting and like that people will discover your channel and cross over the limit of 1k subscribers to get paid by YT.
Excellent video, thanks you for helping me with this decision. I've been looking at these Bridge City squares for a while now. I have had a Starrett combination set like yours for years and I always find myself avoiding using it because touching it causes rust! Edges were also sharp and needed to be smoothed with 1000 grit sandpaper. I have researched all the combination squares on the market pretty thoroughly and you have helped me confirm that Bridge City is the one I need!
So glad we could help, it's why we did this channel and it's frustrating it isn't very popular so your comment means the world. I adore this combination square
I find myself gravitating more and more towards cool tool reviews, across the spectrum. Meaning reviews like these about well known premium tool brands like bridge city, to the ones featuring obscure lesser known type of woodworking tools. This is the first of your videos I’ve come across, and given the content of this first one in addition to your no nonsense style of review, I’ve subscribed, commented, as well as liked. Hope to see more of this
I had the same dislake as you for the Starret's mechanism, sold it, got a PEC and it is the same annoying thing, I was about to give up and found you video, ordered one, thanks for the video!
Starrett is all abut precision. They don't use stainless because it has a higher thermal expansion coefficient than mild steel, and it's also more brittle at low temperatures. Take care of your tools, keep them clean and oiled, and they won't rust.
So I bought the Cs-6v2 and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. It is perfectly square, but the feel and function doesn't quite measure up. The locking knob feels cheap and has to be fiddled with and really tightened hard. When I tighten it and try to use it, the head slides and I have to make a second attempt to tighten it firmly. I don't feel it is worth almost $200 that I paid for it (with shipping), so I will sadly not be buying the 12" version. I will probably get the steel Starrett and see if it rusts less than the cast iron one that I have. I also bought the Bridge City block plane and I guess it is worth $100 I paid, but certainly not more. I didn't realize the whole thing was aluminum. Not sure how well the sole will last being soft aluminum. It is very pretty to look at though. I still appreciate your video and your honesty very much though!! Keep them coming!
Many thanks William! Right, here's what happened... I went to order from the website and then when you checkout with carriage to the UK it came out at $400 postage! I emailed Bridge City to ask if there were any squares coming into the UK, whether Axminster would have any from the latest batch and they said no, however, the chap, Kyle said they would reduce the carriage to $70 which was about £50 at the time. I still expected to pay another £80-£100 on customs fees but somehow and I don't know why I avoided the import taxes and they came directly to me, maybe it was in the $70 or maybe I just got lucky, I'm not sure. Many thanks for the sub dude, I hope if I get enough subs I'll get sent kit to review as it's quite a costly enterprise to stand alone, many thanks again and I hope this helps! 😀
Nooooooooo 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Bedlam, I can't redo it now, it takes me so long to edit a video, apologies, I'm going a bit stir crazy cabin fever locked up at home with my hand 🤣 I'd avoid the starrett 💯

Great video, fairly convinced that this is the combination square I....need....(want really).
Can you advise if the square accept blades from other brands, such as Starrett?
Did you order them from the US I heard you mention about carriage, but never heard you saying where from?
Subscribed 😉

How’s the tool holding up a couple of years on?
You called it a Starett not a Bridge City at 15:41!

@@blowfeld38 No need to apologise, was not a criticism just thought I would let you know
@@blowfeld38 this video rocks, don’t worry about it at all. I’ll buy bridge city in the coming days because of this video
