George Alagiah was a superb journalist and newsreader. In addition, he had an extremely cultured and mellifluous voice; so his delivery was extremely pleasant. In fact, altogether, he was a very distinguished gentleman. That in itself is relatively rare these days. George Alagiah will be sorely missed by so many. R.I.P.
Very sad indeed, I survived bowel cancer 3 ½ years and I consider myself extremely fortunate. Not everyone is as fortunate. as I have been. I respect his strength and courage throughout his sadly tragically ending journey. RIP George, an inspiration to many.
Dear professor Tim , during these trying times in human kind this was a very kind balanced man with a professional attitude to his profession. Will be kindly thought of , what more can we say . Kind regards
So sad he was one of the Good guys of journalism. He was a consummate Professional and always Came across as caring And sincere. He will be greatly missed By all the viewers and Many friends. John Ann Bonnie Scotland.🙏🙏
I only knew George from watching him on TV. He struck me as a very decent human being with great professionalsm. I have known of his illness which he endured for years. On hearing of his death I was most upset and much more than I thought. We will all miss his presence on the media very much. Very sad.
I agree, he was up there with the very best like listening to your favourite uncle when he read the news. He also spent many years out on location, often in some very dangerous places.
George was also an accomplished public speaker and interviewer, often appearing at the Hay-on-Wye book festival and always coming across as witty, empathetic, knowledgeable and the very definition of a gentleman. A sad loss to both culture and journalism.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends , like both of you i to am a bowel cancer sufferer ,but I am one of the lucky ones ,no radio theropy ,or chemo in my case . Hope you are in a good place SIR . 🙏🙏🙏
Mr. Alagiah seemed like such a lovely human being. It’s particularly difficult to lose such people. I wish his wife and family all the best. 🦋🕊️🌹Well said Mr. Wilson.
Aaaw, this is sad. He had a lots of spirit and kind eyes. As a journalist , presenter and human being he seemed very balanced, and had a reassuringly humane demeanour. I knew he had cancer, and when he appeared on the news again, I was really rooting for him. Damn, life can be cruel. I'm choosing to ignore the cold hearted comments on here.
You used the word Gravitas there Sir Tim. I think that is the term that describes him best. He certainly came across as an utterly decent and humble man, no doubt an inspiration to many. Condolences to his family and to his colleagues in the BBC. Rest in Peace George Alagiah🙏
Yes he was a massively respected commentator and broadcaster and oozed warmth and compassion. The exact opposite of that million pound presenter who should be banned from broadcasting subjects he knows next to nothing about - political issues and the beautiful game He should stick to the remit of his expertise - kindergarten issues and fairy stories.
An excellent journalist and a definite loss to the profession. I would like to see a programme about his life as a whole and I hope the BBC does something along these lines. It would be a worthwhile celebration of a life well lived. What I don't want to see is a good third of the main national and international news broadcast of the day being devoted to his passing. With everything going on in the world right now and in our small part of it, with all the people struggling and suffering, it seems to be a perfect example of the level of ignorant, middle class navel gazing the BBC has become so good at. I'm sorry to say I'm finding it harder and harder to justify my general support for a national broadcaster funded by the public.
Your comments for this Man seem hart felt and honest, why would you through in a diagnosis for your self? Don't understand people die every day of cancer, children, fathers, mothers, grandparents, siblings, friends, what did it bring to the issue?
Why couldn't it have been Nigel Farage? Suella Braverman? Pritti not so Patel? Boris Johnson even. When God takes the good guys before their time it weakens our faith in divine justice. RIP George , you will be missed by many that saw the good in you.
Rather sobering to think that George probably would never had made it into this country if Cruella had been in charge at the time. A perfect example of the benefits that immigrants can bring to our country, if only we welcome them in. RIP George. 😢
Thank you for that tribute. He will be missed.

That really is a shame, one of the very few decent, genuine ones after the corrupt company

Sorry to hear this.
Good thing he arrived before Cruella and friends were let loose on immigrants...

I felt very upset about hearing the news of his death. He was a good man much loved.
RIP, that's how Patrick Swayze tragically died of
Patrick Swayze died of pancreatic cancer whereas George Alagiah has died of bowel cancer, they're different.
