It’s amazing how much the two friends loved and cared about each other. You can see tears in Jack’s eyes at the end.
Two originals. Never took themselves too seriously like many of today's actors.
that's exactly what made & makes them great.
like many of that day's actors too
you all prolly dont care but does anyone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow lost the password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
@Armando Ameer Instablaster ;)
I know what characters
I actually met Mathau in Catania Airport in Sicily when I was stationed there with the Air Force. He sat with us on the plane to Rome and he shared that he was a B-17 waist gunner and radio operator with 35 missions during WWII. He said his CO was Jimmy Stewart. He was a nice guy.
What a nice memory for you...
Great story.
Oh wow. That is awesome. Yeah, I heard he was a down to earth guy. Well I never met Matthau, but I DID meet Mr. Leslie Neilson. Leslie was shooting a Christmas movie (in July) in the mall next to my building where I lived in Toronto. I was a scorching hot day. I was dripping sweat and when I walked up to the main entrance of the mall, it was decorated with Christmas wreaths and lights... then when I walked in, the crew was setting up Santa's Village. I thought "Oh my GOD! What was in the WEED I just smoked in the parking lot!!??" And there he was, getting fitted into a Santa costume! So I walked up to him and I said "Aren't you Leslie Neilson?" and he said "As far as I know!" LOL. He was just as hilarious in person and he was very gracious, and he was kind enough to give me an autograph after he got suited up as jolly old Saint Nick!
Wow, I didn't know he and Jimmy Stewart were on the same air crew. Interesting, thanks for sharing.
One of kind guy...funny without trying to be and probably one of the more down to earth actors in Hollywood
RIP Walter Matthau (October 1, 1920 - July 1, 2000), aged 79
And
RIP Jack Lemmon (February 8, 1925 - June 27, 2001), aged 76
You both will always be remembered as legends.
By sheer chance these two shot a movie scene right across the street from my home back in the 90's when they did Grumpy Old Men. I was really struck at how completely different they were off camera. Matthau was very gregarious and engaging, Lemmon extremely quiet and to himself. Yet the scene would start and there you saw the absolute magic these men created together. What talent and such a treat to see it all happen!
I couldn't be more envious.
Magic time.
Jack is clearly touched by Walter's tribute...Heartwarming...RIP, you guys...
Buried with graves side by side. Best friends.
Jack&Walter both are very talented actors, every movie you guy did was a treat to watch, Rip guys
Matthau makes my life better every time I watch one of his movies. Together, they were a treasure!
Hard to believe it's been 20 years since they passed away. 😔😢
Pure class.
It's sad we will never have people like this in Hollywood again.
We don’t, do we. They’re all pretentious souls.
That’s for sure. Hollywood lost all class
Walter had sooo much class. Great man.
VincentTG he's like a second WC Fields
Gone but never forgotten, thanks for the memories gentlemen!
Two legends in the game. Two names who I don't think get mentioned nearly enough today. Both are missed tremendously.
My first exposure to both Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau was seeing them both in "The Odd Couple" when the movie had aired on TV a long time ago. I was instantly hooked. There will never be another more entertaining pair than these two legends. RIP gents and thanks for the cinematic memories. 😎🙏
This was from 1988, a lifetime achievement and then goes on to make arguably his BEST stuff.
You can really feel the deep love, respect and admiration here between Matthau and Lemmon. These men are National Treasures and I feel fortunate to have grown up in an era where I was able to witness them in real-time performing their magic on and off the screen. They are greatly missed
I agree. I was fortunate enough to be alive during their latter years and my grandmother was a huge fan. She had a number of their films on VHS and we'd watch them all the time on the holidays. The Grumpy Old Men movies were a personal favourite.
They were soulmates. Love them so much.
Matthau and Lemmon are buried next to each other, and across the way is Wilder.
Yes - funny, true, and poignant.
..really? I find that comforting. yes, I love them both 💝
I'd love to listen to their late night banter.
I'd sure love to listen to that! :)
When Matthau got to the Pearly Gates, St Peters asked him where his partner was. Matthau replied, 'You mean that lowlife asswipe eggsucker who's always hanging around those kinky stripbars? He's too dumb to die. And if he did, he'd be at the other gate, south of here!'
RIP Gentlemen. Amen
they cared for each other
Yes they did. They died about 6 months apart.
Lemmon cracking up at Matthau’s joke, is absolutely priceless.
My two favourite actors/comedians.
I had a friend of 30 plus yrs like this......I miss him everyday. Its impossible to have a friendship like that today.
Best men
Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau ,
When I see them I am ready to cry ,
they made a big difference in show biz ,
so human and so professionals , really
dedicated to their acting with so much
of everything and more....
I so miss these beautiful dudes. I don't think we'll see their like again. Stay together in the next realm, guys, so we can all catch up to you and give you one long hug!!!
malthau's speech makes a man cry out of jealousy that a man can have such a friend. - Brooklyn NY, 9/17/2018
Like how you included thee date of your comment. 👌.
What an incredibly nice thing to say.
These guys are probably my favorite comedy team. I enjoy their individual movies, but as a duo they're an absolute riot. And their friendship, both on screen and off was very pure and touching. Both Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are a national treasure.
I couldn't agree more.
You don't see such mutual respect and admiration anymore.
Because in the words of the poet and philosopher, Billy Wilder,
“most actors can show you one or two things and they’ve emptied their
shelves. Jack Lemmon is Macy’s and Tiffany’s and Sears Roebuck, catalog
and all.”
Love both these men so much. Also they did magic everytime they acted together. You can tell their bromance was real
Together on the big screen. Together in eternity. Thanks for the laughs you both gave us.
I never tire watching these awesome actors and miss them dearly on and off the screen..thank god we have the movies they did..
Pure love for a friend.
A Hollywood I used to love. Lemmon & Mathau were very special. Thanks for the memories. 👏👏👏👏👏
Two of the very finest actors of the twentieth century.
The respect that Matthau had for Lemmon can be seen a mile off in this clip.
R.I.P. to both of these giants.
Wonderful, truly Walter style tribute. They were genuinely good friends.
When I think that these two great artists are gone it hurts quite a bit. They gave us so much.
There are very few things in this world I love more than the way Walter Matthau says "fried shrimp sandwich and a chocolate frappe"
These 2 guys Matthau and Lemmon were 2 of a kind. Yet now 2024 their friendship never died. These 2 were hilarious in the movies they made. Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon did great movies. Although at this time back then i was only 4 years.
The events that created these people (Walter and Jack) were special and will never been quite the same ever again. This is what is so singular in our joy and appreciation of their talents. Good to view them once again through the eyes of these clips. RIP M/L...
2 of my favourite actors, I cry everytime I see this
Sky news live
jack lemmon : you are missed. my favorite actor. (and a good man).
Mine too.
John Jarou; nice call
Two great guys ❤️
What a gem of a clip, the love and respect for each other was touching.
Two orginals, missed very much. RIP Gents!
NO ONE has even come close to filling Walter's shoes since he's been gone.
+War Emblem agreed. and never will that day come.
His or Lemmon's. We will never see their like again.
True, Walter was always tetchy about other people touching his shoes. Fact.
Matthau & Lemmon. Comic geniuses. We’ll never see the likes of these amazing classic actors again 🙏🏼
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau have such a tremendous love and respect for each other and to see them together on screen is always a great pleasure. They're one of the best comedy duos in all of cinema history.
This is one of the great comedy duos of all time. Laural and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, Lemmon and Mathua.
I wonder why Walter Mathau didn't win an AFI award? I think he deserved one too. :)
I love them too!! :D
Two great actors. Two men with a lot of class.
When you one, you saw the other, Walter and Jack. Bless their souls 🙏🙏
I heard a director and I have forgotten who it was, say Jack Lemmon could read and interpret a scene better than any actor he ever saw. He could do the scene in a dozen different ways if you asked and each way would be unique just by his timing, voice, expression etc. A true artistic genius!
One of the best comedic duos of all time
Perhaps the best comedy team ever. You are both sorely missed.
Great speech by a great man appreciating another great man. Perfect. I just loved the both of them.
Two wonderful talents and two great men.
No envy, no jealousy... Amazing.
God bless these two. When you flip through channels, there are certain actors that make you choose to remain on that channel. These actors are the comedians. No matter what the movie they are featured on, they will always brighten your time and win your heart. Mr Mathou and Mr Lemmon were two of these precious entertainers. And like all humble comedians, they will never know how vital they are to humanity.
Once again, god bless these two.
Love this Guy, one of a kind! R.I.P.
So sweet. Shame these guys aren't around anymore
I sure miss them.
@@joel8583 Me, too. I have the t wo Grumpy Old Men movies on DVD, but that's it. Rest In Peace to two comedy legen ds.
Oh, but they are.
You will never see this calibre of talent ever again.
Sure miss those guys and the quality and class they represent
Two outstanding actors ❤
Apparently, Walter & Jack had some sort of almost "metaphysical" connection because one died within a year of the other.

The table where actors who bond well together sit..
Jack Lemmon was a great actor very underrated just see the movie "missing". Or Save the Tiger.
The most perfect of the most perfect cinematic pairing ..
Great tribute to a dear friend. RIP JACK AND WALTER.
and that was one hell of a compliment!
Two top actors and best of friends
I would like to see whole video of this wonderful evening about Jack Lemmon 💖. Is there exists this!? Marvelous person, incredible talent and kind, gentlemen! Just love!💓
I miss the old days when we were blessed with such great actors!!!
Name a more iconic duo. I'll wait.
Matthau & Lemmon.....they are legends! Still love them, their humor and......of course all of their movies!
Two great legends. May they both rest in peace.
What a tribute to such a dear friend.
So many great movies together and apart.
I have so many Matthau and so many Lemmon movies. I just watched Irma La Douce for the first time. I've seen The Apartment several times.
Two Bonds laughing their asses off at Walter Matthau telling Jack Lemmon stories, you just got get these kind of moments on tv anymore.
+SilverConquistador I'm seriously having trouble figuring out which one it is
@@MrMorganfarts Sean Connery and Roger Moore
@@geoffwilliams4478 Nick Nolte.
Sean Connery and Nick Nolte. Nick was never a Bond.
They were brilliant..they should be remembered!
That is absolute true love between best friends right there! May they both RIP ❤
A MAGNIFICENT TRIBUTE..LOVE these guys x
They are truly missed. I loved the "Odd Couple" and "Grumpy Old Men." I fell in love with Matthau again in "Hang Up." They had to have a strong connection because Lemmon died a year later. It's touching how Lemmon never left Matthau side before he passed.
where did you get those eyes? (*_~)
You can copy and past mine into your profile.
The outtakes for grumpy old men were the best. I remember one he was revving up the boat motor and it wasnt moving. "Hey dickhead I'm stuck" lol
Jack's son said Walter was the brother he never had. If only I get to here both of them guys that would be super
@@iku_33 the outtakes from grumpy old men are just hilarious. my mom loved watching those movies. i remember watching them as a young kid and not getting most of the jokes. now as an adult I crack up watching the movies. Burgess as the grandpa was hilarious. "ive been to Hawaii" OH YEAH which island? "cmoniwannalayya" 🤣🤣
These guys were a class act! Really was a big fan of their work, both individually and collectively. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are a national treasure! God rest them both. They will always be one of my favorite comedy teams! Long live the original Odd Couple.
These two were masters at walking the line between comedy and tragedy. Hell, Mathau was in Pelham 123, the man can do action.
Ouch.....seeing Sir Sean laughing and having a good time hurts a bit now that I know he's not longer with us :( Miss him
Love these two Gentleman !
Oh, I adored them both. So versatile. Such wit. Wonderful timing. They complimented each other very well. Dearly missed...
Jack Lemmon was a master of both comedy and drama
made me cry under the tears of Laughter
my two IDOLS
rip
Some actors are good in comedies, other are better in dramatic roles. Lemmon was one of the few who was excelled in both.
Rest in peace and birthday wishes to Walter Mathau. 10 1. It is a joy to witness one of the strongest Hollywood friendships ❤ they died almost one year apart. These two remind us a best friend is a blessing
The best couple in movies, hails! from spain to both awesome actors now in the sky with Wilder.
All the movies he made and never got recognition for them. His final movie he gets an Oscar with no standing ovation. One of hollywoods true greats THE DUKE. God bless ❤❤❤
It's simply about HOW he speak, amazing humour and timing
A lovely tribute.
You're damn right he is in both of them together are absolutely wonderful comedians and God rest their souls because those are also some of the old greats and some of the best comedians and actors in history
Hollywood.... the world... needs another Walter and Jack. I miss them.
These guys made great movies, love them both!
Man...what high-quality people...what great men and women. What amazing times!
I am very happy to be able to see this.
