    I am glad you got it to charge. That Generator isn't an inverter generator so the power isn't very clean and a lot of Tesla won't charge directly from regular generators. It seems this Westinghouse put out some good frequencies without being an inverter generator or they are letting the Cybertruck take power that most of the other wouldn't.

    I would want a backup generator, even a small one. You don’t want to do a breaking bad.

    I bought a special aftermarket charger that does a ground bypass and it's 40a. It automatically combines the neutral and ground, but it's nice that the generator let's you do that.

    Great stuff to know, but I think you’re looking in the wrong direction if you have that trailer with, you could put 400 W solar panels with direct AC and you have probably have more power and be able to recharge all day long while vehicle is sitting, May not be a huge amount of amps to do it with, but they’ll continuously charge

      It is an exciting thought. I need to check the available space on top of my RV for solar panels and also consider ground-deployed panels. I have built a few solar systems in the past.

    • @tripzero0
      @tripzero0 3 месяца назад +1

      I think you might be able to get at least 400W of panels directly on the cybertruck using the (4) roof racks. Couple that with a 6kwh battery generator that does 240V (ie the ecoflow pro ultra), and you could be looking at infinite charging.
      When I get my Truck, I might do that experiment. Might be more pricey than the propane solution, but would be less noisy and you could just leave it because it's more integrated.

      I drove 1802 miles from Philly to Chicagoland and back. I had a Tesla 3 rental and went alone. Only used 100kw of 402kw via Tesla Fast DC chargers. Just cost $33. Skipped tolls and used FREE Public charging stations. Slept during the night while charging and paid when I wanted to drive during the day. Charged up for free, so I could afford the $15 & $18 breakfasts.

    You said that there’s only two things that the CyberTruck can’t do that your diesel can do, range and a 5th wheel. I argue that it can do range as long as you don’t mind hitching and unhitching. Obviously not a similar distance per charge and admittedly not nearly as convenient. However, can it “REALLY” not tow a fifth wheel? Everyone always says that it can’t but, how true is it? No one has actually tried. Obviously, I’m not interested in you damaging your truck but, consider testing this assumed truth. Even if you just drove the CyberTruck under a suspended and stationary 5th wheel to get measurements. Add to that the trucks turning radius and we’d get an idea of whether or not it’s possible. You’d be answering a question no one else has even attempted to answer yet. The main argument for why the CyberTruck can’t tow a fifth wheel (as I understand it) is the sail pillars along the bed but, when you consider four wheel steering how close would it even get? When turning tightly enough to hit the sail pillars (traditionally) you’re also driving slow enough to maximum the CyberTruck’s turn radius. There are 5th wheels that the CyberTruck could handle weight wise. The KZ DURANGO HALF-TOND274BHD comes to mind. Doing this test would surely be your highest viewed video. No one thinks it’s possible. Just title it “Can the CyberTruck tow a fifth wheel?” You’d get views from both lovers and haters of the CyberTruck waiting for their conformation biased to be satisfied. You could rent it and satisfy the curiosity of everyone. Here’s hoping you do it! You’ve got a subscriber regardless great work thus far!

      This is very interesting. I thought it was because of the way the bed tapers up towards the cab now I want to look into it.

      the 2 and 3 motors tesla trucks have more hp than even the most powerful diesels which are only 500hp recently! also towing is more about chassis and suspension configuration! the latest ford f450 could tow u to 40,000 lbs with just 500hp diesel and you can very easily install an additional or auxiliary fuel tank without reducing your bed practicality.

    • @alanmay7929
      @alanmay7929 Месяц назад

      a BMW x5 diesel with only 260hp can tow over 7000 lbs and still get you over 300 miles of range while the 1020hp tesla modelx plaid can barely tow 5000lbs on just 100ish miles that speaks volumes.

      @@AllistairNeil thanks for your comment. This video was a test for mobile use. Not at home with solar. Also at 6 cents a KW which is what a charge at, it would take me 25 years to recover the cost which by then all the equipment would likely need to be replaced. If power costs go up or solar installation prices go down I will install solar.

    Thanks for doing the test. It's what I expected. Now I wonder: what's the largest generator one could practically fit into the back?
    Originally, .I thought 30kw would be the minimum, and give you a full charge in 5 hours. But those generators are massive.
    I say it's a bust.

    so, lets see... propane... approximately the same as diesel and petrol, about 10KW/KG...
    again, assume about the same efficiency as diesel/petrol... 30%... 3kw/kg.
    9kg tank...
    27kw, but theres generator losses as well... lets say 20kw...
    now to skip to end of video....
    38:38
    22KWH... close.

    • @tripzero0
      @tripzero0 3 месяца назад

      Good math. I was hoping that with the generator losses, it'd make more sense to use a battery generator but wow, the energy density of hydrocarbons is just nuts. It's far better per kg even with the losses.

    Great video and research for charging EVs with a generator. If my friend will be powering his travel trailer with his generator, will I be able to charge my EV at a level 1? Or is it possible to also charge at level 2 while his travel trailer air conditioning is being powered at the same time? Thanks!

    • @SoaringVideos
      @SoaringVideos  4 месяца назад +1

      You should be able to do Level 1 without a problem. Much past that, you need a dedicated 240-volt circuit to handle Level 2. My camper doesn't have enough power to do anything past Level 1, and the power shed module doesn't have a more powerful circuit in my camper.

    • @R56Cooper
      @R56Cooper 4 месяца назад +1

      @SoaringVideos got it! Yes, will aim just for level 1 charging with my friend's camper. Will be camping for 5 days in the desert. They run their generator on during the day for AC (around 10 hours a day) so will plug in over that time-- 50 hours approximately-- hopefully will charge the EV battery 150 miles or so...🤞again, thanks for all the EV/generator charging content!

      @SoaringVideos I think it's because it requires a bit thicker wiring. The one I found is nice and easy to roll up during warmer weather, but during colder weather it's more stiff, so I don't put it in it's pouch since I feel it puts more stress on the wire where it comes out of the brick part. It also let's you set the max amperage from the charger itself as well as tell it to function with or without a ground. Pretty nice.

    nobody did that yet! thank you one more time sir, it was really interesting video compared to others who wrapping this trucks like a princess toy.. those videos are painful & useless! but your videos are like fresh air in the closed room!
    this problem with charging will be eliminated as energy density will increase in batteries, current density of that batteries that are in your cyber truck is only 285wh/kg but there are battery with 1kwh/kg in development already more than 3 years, they have final chemical combinations that they're testing & when that hits to the market, that will be big relief!
    I calculated & current battery cells weight in that truck is 402kg. so if we replace that battery with 1kwh/kg battery cells, that same battery pack with same weight will have energy capacity of 402kwh! today you have there only 123kwh! out of this 402 kwh there will be, let's say 32 kwh buffer for saving longevity of the battery, which will leaves you with whooping 370 kwh battery pack! which would give you exactly 3x more range than today!
    so instead of stopping 3 times in a road trip for charging, you would stop just once...
    of course that technology is far away yet, I don't know when tesla will introduce such high capacity of batteries, but at least for next 3 years we will not see it...
