I bought that early '67 reproduction garbage. I was so happy that it was even available until I tried to install it. I cut the reproduction in half to get the glass out and installed it in my original mirror housing. Of course I will save my original mirror so I can send it in to you guys when the reproduction inevitably fails. Thanks for providing the service and making this video.
Don, the hobby needs more honest guys like you. Even if your selling the part in question, your brutal honesty is priceless for us buying parts based on a few pictures online. Thanks again!
thank you ! the hot water trick helped me swap out the broken internals of my mirror for another beat up junkyard mirror but with good internal mechanisms. thanks again
I ordered a repro mirror for my '67 T-bird. In the video, it's the third from the right with the gray switch (He calls it '68 late). The only difference from my original is that my switch is black. Very pleased with it - especially considering parts for 67-69 T-birds are essentially non-existent.
Hi there, any ideas on how to repair the actual plastic mirror housing. Some of the bottom front edge has chipped off. Other than that it’s still a great mirror. It’s for a ‘68 mustang. Regards Declan, Ireland, where these things are like unicorns.
I don't know that there is a way to repair the plastic. We do sell both new and used mirrors for the 68: secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/store/Search.aspx?CatID=15885&SearchTerms=Rear%20View%20Mirror%20Assembly&Type=AND
what process do you guys use to restore the mirror glass? i plan on getting a restored one from you and sending you my old one. do you use that mirror in a can spray or actual silvering? the quality of the mirror is important to me. (the glass im sending you has no cracks or scratches. just worn silver)
We send those off to a company that strips them and then re-silvers them. We no longer send in your exact lens; we use what we call core matching. When you send us your core restorable mirror, we look at the quality of the mirror and pick a restored mirror of comparable quality.
I know this is a little off topic but I at the moment have a 351W with a 3 speed auto, But I was wondering if you had a 4 speed transmission for my car, the rest of the parts I can get a hold of. I just need the transmission, and last time I called they told me you guys dont have one? Please get back to me as soon as possible. Thanks -Mitch
Hello, Do you need to keep the water in the stove? I mean in the fire? Because I tried with pre hot water but it seems that the water gets colder and colder in about 3-4 minutes. Thanks.
I have a question please. I have a mint condition 1990 Mercury Cougar Bostonian car. Recently the rear view mirror fell off and cracked right in the middle, 3 cracks on the mirror. The outer casing is fine ... do you have the actual glass/mirror replacement? Thank you in advance. Regards, Chandra
Not for a 1990! We only deal with Cougar parts up to 1973. Your best best would be to check eBay for a good used replacement, or maybe even your local junkyards.
Look at our channel, we have two videos about side mirrors. One is about installing a RH mirror on a 67-8, and the other shows how to repair a 69-73 RH sport mirror. Some of the info in those might be useful..
Bought correct replacement mirror and new chrome mounting bar. When I Tighten the screw that holds mirror to bracket with white plastic nut Mirror comes loose and slides down every time. Tried putting rubber washer same problem. What do I need or what am I missing?
+Cyril Bellavance Not sure what plastic nut you're referring to, but it sounds like that's the problem (stripped nut). Try replacing that nut with a metal one?
The mirror you get back will be high quality re-silvered, but if the one you send us has hairline cracks in the glass itself, the re-silvered one you get back will likewise have hairline cracks in the glass. All of our restoration services are core matching. If the one you have has hairline cracks in the glass and you want to get one back that is better than the one you have, then you would want to purchase one of our Grade A used mirror assemblies that have had the mirror re-silvered: secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/store/Search.aspx?SearchTerms=mirror%20assembly%20grade%20a&Type=AND

Just watched this video and took apart a mirror for a 68 gmc. If I could hug the person who made this video I would. Hot water worked magic.

How do you remove the lens from a steel mirror

So, how do you reinstall the glass back into the case, assuming you did the resilvering yourself?

Just get it warm and pliable and massage it in.

…so why do I bother sending you my crappy mirror, if you’re only going to send me a crappy one back?
