This is the most thorough, detailed demonstration of convertible top installation I have seen anywhere. God and the devil and both in the details, and this takes the dread out of messing up an expensive DIY project. Thanks gentlemen.
That's an impressive shop. Clean, light and HUGE.
If you ever get to Ocala, Florida go to NPD. We recommend calling ahead to schedule a tour of the collection. Plan to spend a couple of hours--with over 200 cars, there is a LOT to see. And the shop is a dream to work in.
Great video.
that bass line has been with me all day hahaa
Can't wait for part II :D
A good way to get around the rear tack bolts stripping is to use rivnuts instead
Good idea
Great tips and great video as always, nice job guys!
remove and replace 1972 chevelle convertible top
We have that in the works. Missed out on a Olds convertible a few months ago that would have been our source vehicle for that. Now we wait...
have you done a video for a fox body mustang? (79-93) I need a video for that.
can you do this for a '65 corvette
I'd appreciate a video showing how to install the items INSIDE the well where the top folds up when retracted.
Could happen!
Hi Guys. Great show! Very good indeed. I have a guestion: I have a 63 Ford Falcon Futura convertible. I will attempt to install the new convert top myself with the help of your fantastic videos of course. Can you tell me if the convertible struture is the same as the 66 Mustang in terms of dimensions-- distances between the bars? Thanks, Mark
+Mark Anthony Beinner Honestly Mark we're not sure. We'd recommend the Falcon club forum for a definitive answer.
What size staples are used for the top?
At about the 9:50 mark I see the use of screws (8 total) to hold the pads to bow #2 and #3. My bows do not have holes for this but I can tap some pretty easily. Question is where can I get those screws and flat washers?
Contact NPD, reference the video when you call. If that doesn't bear fruit, contact me and I'll help: jford@autorestomod.com
Is it the same way for a 67 Mustang?
Folding rear window is better than plastic
I know this is an older video but can I just purchase a new rear curtain and replace just my old, yellow/cracked rear curtain? Will the new zipper work with the old zipper?
It might. Certainly worth a try. I've never done that before as usually the the rest of the top is trashed too.
@@AutoRestoMod Thanks for the response. Rest is still in fairly good condition.
@@quangb8448 - i have the same issue... how did it go for you?
@@jamesbiemer4310 Sorry, never got around to it. There's always something else needing fixing.
@@quangb8448 understood - thanks....it seems like a difficult repair for sure.
Just curious as to why the parts list shows the full pad set but only the side pads were used? Why leave the quarter pads out when Ford used them originally?
Man, that video is 8 years old. Hard to remember what the plan was.
Is that a fart at 1:56?
+Zed Dreppelin nope, hes clearing his throat
+Zed Dreppelin Or was he?
WOW! Just like Computer 101. There is so much information that is not shared or even mentioned because it's assumed that the viewer knows something. I know NOTHING, therefore unable to follow the tidbits of info offered thru the eyedropper. Was hoping to find step by step instructions from the beginning but that would take to much time so I guess I'll have to fill in the blanks myself. Computer 101 didn't help either.
David, sorry that you find it less than helpful, we strive to cover every jot and tiddle, that is why this is a two part video.
Didn't watch Part 2. Does it fill in the blanks left open by Part 1? What was used to determine the proper spacing of the bows? They also mentioned not putting the pads to low so they wouldn't be seen after the new top material is installed. How did you determine where that line is supposed to be? Is all that covered in Part 2?
