    Great tip! I have this kit and an actual double petal and it has been a bit of a struggle. I have the beaters as close as I can get them and neither one strike the center of the pad enough to get the full trigger of a single petal. I have spent hours trying to get it just right and I have it as even as possible. What I did is turned up the sensitivity and the volume of the bass pad to even it out with the rest of the kit. Works great now. So if you do go for the double petal, keep this in mind. Also for you and anyone reading this, this kit works great with Reason 10 and 11 with the Kong Drum Machine and the Reason Drums rack extensions. I did have to adjust the pad sensitivity to get a more “real” sound for rolls and ghosts.

      @@prdsatx4467 If you talking about the double bass pad settings, I believe I had the sensitivity up all the way and the volume as well. I'm not 100% sure if that was the setting, as I'm using a completely different setup now with the Alesis 8" mesh bass pad from the surge kit. I found it used for cheap. I would recommend that if you can find one. I was fed up with the nitro bass pad with my double petal.

    I found an excellent way to do double bass on the Nitro Mesh kit. I bought a 2nd identical Alesis kick pad tower & pedal cheap, then hooked it up via a "mono" 1/4 inch 2-way splitter to have double bass. Seeing as both share an input, they have the exact same settings, as well. It works so much better than my double pedal did, as the beaters weren't hitting the pad in the center enough to work that good. The 2nd tower has been working wonders, however, for over a year.

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  3 года назад +1

      cool!

    • @FreeRPGer
      @FreeRPGer 3 года назад

      @@demonicsweaters Also, I heard the using the hi hit pedal isn't a good idea, because the spring is only a smaller single spring, or so I've seen in another video. But a 2nd Alesis kick tower pad only ran me around $70. eBay seller drumsrus usually always has one, and if not, he restocks. Then a mono 1/4 inch Y splitter works, or hooking it to Tom 4. I have a 1 male to 2 female Y splitter, mono, not stereo.

    I love this idea.
    It has inspired me to plug the bass pedal from my old Roland kit into the input for Tom 4.
    I wouldn't want to use the hihat pedal because it seems kind of flimsy and not likely to stand up to such heavy use. I suspect using it as a kick pedal would break it fairly quickly.
    But, yeah, I am very thankful for your videos on editing kits in the module.

I'm just learning drums solely for studio recording but it would be nice to be able to get a gig or two a few years down the line on drums. I'm still working on upping my speed on a single kick.

      A comment I found on reddit that (possibly) addresses this situation:
      "... On the nitro hi hat pedal, there's also a "hi hat half-open" position that will make you drop Y Cymbal notes while using double bass if you don't adjust it... What you have to do is hold the hi hat pedal about 3/4 of the way down (if you look at your midi output you'll see it change, I think the default is 23), then change the hi hat output for half-open to whatever the default is for full open (I want to say 49? not positive about that.) This will fix the dropped note issue."

    Found someone selling an Alesis kick pad and pedal online. Thinking I'll pick that up and just plug the second kick pad into the tom 4 port. Considering what they're asking for the pad and pedal, it's actually cheaper than buying a double kick pedal.

      I received the second kick pad and pedal, for about half to one-third of what they cost online. Hooked the new pad up to the tom 4 port, and it works like a charm! I now have dual kicks on my nitro mesh, and I'm TERRIBLE with them. Definitely gonna be a while before I can play a cover of BabyMetal Death or Lamb Of God's Now You've Got Something To Die For.
      The only issue I'm having is I can't seem to set the hi-hat open to use the closed hi-hat sounds. I have the pedal duct-taped closed for now. It'll do until I can figure out how to set it properly.

    Get ready: Just insert a simple overdrive or boost guitar pedal between the stock kick pad and the module.
    The pedal raises the volume of the signal that is transmitted to the module. This way the pad becomes MUCH more sensitive for weaker hits.
    I did this because I bought an 8" mesh kick pad for my Nitro which didn't work any better. I talked to Thomann about this and he told me that every module requires a different signal level in order to process the hits accurately.
    Since piezos are also used as pickups for acoustic guitars, this works AND saves money.

    This may be a dumb question, i know basically nothing about drums but if i assign the bass sound to the hi hat pedal, doesnt that mean i wont be able to play a hi hat anymore?

    Hello Justin. I am saving and maybe buying one of those kits for Christmas but not just to learn how to play drums but also using it as a midi controller to trigger things like EZ Drummer for home recordings. So far hat I have read one of the most important things when looking for a midi controller is sensibility, like how good it is to pick soft hits and try to achieve the most dynamic range. What do you think of this kit regarding its dynamic range grom from soft to hard hits? I mean, for the same money I buy a midi controller with decent pads and do "finger druming" instead but that would not be as fun as playing a kit.

      Sensitivity is really good on these pads. I don't really think that'll be an issue.

      Javier, As Justin said, the sensitivity is good on these pads. As I mentioned my comment, I use these as a midi controller for Reason. I did have to adjust the sensitivity a bit especially for the snare, but that might just be Reason and not the kit.

    This definitely works but at least for me, the 2 different feelings on the pedals makes it harder to keep good time cause I'm new and I fuckin suck lol but this is an easy workaround for sure.

      I have used the bass pedal from my old Roland kit and plugged it into the back of the module where it says Tom 4. Feels perfect.

    Do this going forward is not the best option though because the pressure and distance of the beater will throw you off as you advance with the style of the hi hat pedals. Best bet to get a cheap one off ebay to learn!

    Yes! I was hoping you could just make the high hat into another bass pedal

    I think for it to be plausible though, you'd need the hi-hat to default to open, since it can longer be controlled. If it ends up being stuck on closed you'll just end up with a click click click sound out of it. Can the hi-hat be set to open ?

    Can you just split the highest pedal with a 3rd pedal for double bass? Most likely, you would have to use a rim line for the drum splitter - obviously something that is not going to be played at the same time.

    OK, so my question is can I use the extra Tom port on the back of the drum module to add another kick drum pad? Giving me two kick drum pads for double bass. Again, can the extra Tom port in the back of the drum module be used to add a second kick drum pad?
