True. Good people but you better be able to turn to a page and show them word for word where it is in the bible. Otherwise just change the subject. As for confession, since the Bible lacks a set of blueprints to build a confessional, it ain't biblical. Ark of the covenant, size of the tabernacle, Noah's ark - specified dimensions. Also, because if God didn't create some for hell and only the elect for Heaven, then creating those who end up in North Korea would be like creating some for hell. So is it that they practice orthodox liturgy, but are in communion with the Holy See? My Papa sadly passed a few years ago, so I can’t ask him myself, but I imagine he was saying “Roman Catholic” in English as he never spoke Arabic to us, just around us… and all these years later, and as a baby Catholic lol, I thought he meant the Latin Roman Catholic Church. So interesting. I feel that you helped me gain some insight to my family/heritage. Thank you so so much! They tend to go silent when you quote the Bible reminding them Jesus descended into hell for three days, had to rise again, spend 40days with His apostles/disciples and then ascend to heaven
Also there are some verses that hint towards the thief possibly being a fallen away disciple because he knew Christ was Lord and going to his kingdom (luke 23:42) something Jesus only taught his disciples (Matt. 13:10-16; Mark 4:10-12)

Scholars used to date it to the 2nd or 3rd century. New evidence places it somewhere between 50 to 70 AD. This means it’s composition would’ve aligned with Council of Jerusalem as well as The Gospels. It’s clear from the Eucharistic Prayers listed in there that Christians have believed in the Real Presence since the very beginning.

The thief on the cross argument.
How did the thief know who Jesus was? Jesus didn't preach the gospel to him. He needs to go read Jesus' last 7 words. The thief was clearly catechized and could have been a fallen away disciple. He could have had the baptism of John and/or circumcised as a Jew that kept the old covenant. The thief knew Jesus was innocent and believed He was God. Explain to me how Bruce, if the thief had just met Jesus at the cross and the bible doesn't tell us that He preached the gospel to the thief. If you say that he heard Jesus quoting the Psalms then that thief was a Jew, was under the old covenant and was a circumcised Jew. If he was a pagan or Gentile he wouldn't have understood how Christ fulfills the Psalms. He probably wouldn't even have known what Jesus was saying.
It's funny that he accuses us of cannibalism. That's exactly what the pagans, Romans and Jews accused the early church Christians of doing. He needs to read Justin Martyr's first apology.
This is Bruce the fundamentalist baptist in John 6:
52The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
60When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?”
61But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this?
66 After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.
67So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?”

The clue is on the word Jesus said to the theif. "TODAY you will be with Me in paradise."
As a Christian we should have known that Jesus didn't go to heaven until 40 days after His resurrection. So paradise is not heaven. But where is the paradise He meant? As Alex said in this video, the paradise is the Abraham’s bosom stated in Luke 16. Paul also said it in Eph. 4:9, and Peter mentioned it in 1 Peter 3:19.
What kind of place is that? This is a jail Jesus mentioned in Matthew 5:26. "Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny."
This is what the Catholic Church calls PURGATORY.

"While the temple was still standing, it was usual for the people of Israel to descend upon the city of Jerusalem, and bring a lamb or goat for each family to be slaughtered. The priests would ritually sacrifice the animals and take a bowl of the blood to pour on the altar, before giving the meat back to the family to be cooked on pomegranate branch skewers and enjoyed in the evening." If we look at Melchizedek, Exodus 25 (Bread of the Real Presence), and Passover, we see that what Jesus is saying in John 6 is no mere metaphor. Jesus recalling the manna in the desert and calling his flesh the Bread of Life had great implications for Jewish people that calling himself a gate or a vine did not.

Mark 16:16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be damned." It is not necessary to add "and he who is not baptized will be damned" because if you do not believe, you are not going to submit to baptism. The way Protestants think of the sentence is that the second part is refuting the first part. But then if only lack of faith will damn you, then why did the first part say "believe and is baptized"?
It I said "He who gets an airline ticket and gets on the plane will get to Europe, but he who does not get an airline ticket will not travel." It is hardly necessary to say in the second part "he who does not get an airline ticket AND does not get on the plane". As far the good thief, the idea that since the good thief was not baptized then refutes Mark 16:16? As if Jesus forgot his own doctrine? No. Baptism was not put into effect until Pentecost. And even if baptism were in effect at the time of the good thief, the example of a dying person does not negate the commands for everyone else.
