Thank you Jenny. After my son was killed in Nov of 2012 and after I could breath again, I wanted to do something special for the grandkids and his wife. I googled how to make a quilt, and there was Jenny's beautiful smiling face. After watching you for several days, (non stop) I thought "I can do this." You make it look so easy. As I found out, it isn't that easy. Well, I made 3 quilts in 12 months. Oh, did I tell you I didn't even own a sewing machine? Yep, my hubby took me down and bought me one, even tho I can't sew diddly. Well, now my 2 daughters, 2 sisters and the other 2 grandkids want one. What have I done? Jenny, you have been a HUGE part in my healing as well as the rest of his family, as they have his pictures on a quilt. I just wanted you to know what Missouri Star and your posts have done for us. Thank you dear lady. Thank you Missouri Star.
I started quilting when my oldest son graduated from high school and joined the Marines. Self taught. It is such wonderful therapy. God Bless you and your son.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Quilting is very therapeutic . Plus, seeing what you created is like nothing else, even if it can be so difficult to figure things out. I’ve made my grandchildren quilts as well. Thank goodness we have these tutorials to guide us. Jenny has come to my rescue as well with finishing the binding. It’s a beautiful thing when it works …and mine did . Enjoy quilting,👍🏻
Sorry to be off topic but does any of you know a method to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly lost my password. I love any assistance you can give me!
@Marcel Benicio instablaster :)
@Decker Nickolas i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I have used this video for years. Every time I bind a quilt I use this to refresh my memory. It's awesome! Thanks Missouri Star.
Same here! I rewatch every time. The best binding tutorial EVER! 😃
I do too! 😀
Me too!
I have seen tens of these tutorials, and this woman is the best! She isn't condescending, she doesn't make me feel silly for being a beginner, she wants it easy and simple just like I do! I just love this instructor! Down to earth and to the point! ❤️❤️
Totally agree with you. Very natural, skilful and inspiring. Usually she also makes me smile.
I agree with you all the way. I’d love to meet Jenny ❤️
Jenny rocks!
She’s the best! I love when she says “ just zoom along the edge!”
I am a beginner as well and I couldn't do it without her and my Mom!!!!
Jenny, please don’t ever stop filming quilting videos!!! 💗 You have taught me so much and I’m so grateful!! 💕🌸 May God richly bless you for all you’ve taught us!! 🌻🌼
I love this binding tutorial. I, too, watch it every time I go to do a binding. I couldn't do it without you Jenny! Thank you so much. The last binding I just did went on like butter.
Every time I get ready to bind a quilt I watch this. It's great. You'd think I'd remember at some point, but I'm not there yet. I hope Jenny never takes this away
I'm right there with you. I need this tutorial EVERY SINGLE TIME.
You are not alone, Ladies! I review this every single time also. After we have put months and sometimes years into creating a quilt, the very last thing we want to do is mess up the binding. So Jenny, PLEASE DON'T EVER MESS WITH THIS TUTORIAL!!!!!!!
Me too!
@Michelle Thomas good idea😁
Same! I re-watch it every time I need to bind!
Wow! This video is from 10 years ago. It’s exactly wanted I needed to know even in 2023!
I hope and pray women like this will always exist. I just love the homelyness of the entire process. It takes quite a bit of intelligence to get all the fine points of quilt making or just sewing. My mom was self taught. She couldn't read or write, but she made quilts and simple clothes, curtains, pillowcases, etc. She looked at a picture and made her own patterns. At 65 I'm starting on my first quilt and will make one for each of my 3 grandkids with God's will and favor.
It doesn't matter how many quilts I bind, I have to come back here every time or I do it wrong. I always do the mitered corners backwards because I'm dyslexic but Jenny can walk me through it and as long as I pay attention, I get it done. Nicely. Thanks, Jenny.
Me do. Just finishing a quilt "All Stars" for my grandson. Now on to pillowcases using my extra fabric.
At least I am not the only person who does that.
I review this tutorial every time I'm going to bind a quilt. It's been invaluable for me and your delivery is so great, Jenny. Thanks for being you and doing these great videos! They have made quilting a joy instead of an experience in frustration!!!- Steph Green
Excellent tutorial, I've been quilting and sewing for more than 50 years, but still need refreshers, and this lady and her tutorials are where I always go for a reminder on how to do something.
Jenny you will be the only one I watch when doing anything like this. I am left handed and when I watch someone right handed I just can't get it. Also how to sew the binding together at the end is amazing. I'm leaving a little more room so I know I can do it. Here it is 7 years later and we are still watching you. God bless you and Merry Christmas.
Have been doing binding for 35 years and have never seen the way you cut the final ends. Can't wait to do it your way. Thanks.
I watch this each time to refresh myself before I bind. The machine binding one is really useful too. Thanks Jenny 👍🏻
Me too.
As well as I.
This is seriously the best binding tutorial! No matter how many quilts I make, I ALWAYS come back and watch it. I’ve been watching this video over and over for years now. You are the best!! My quilting hero! ❤️
I bookmarked this video a few years ago and whenever I am ready to bind a new quilt, I watch it again. The camerawork is excellent and the video is WAY easier than reading directions for binding a quilt. Thank you!
I always find Jenny to be good at description! I have been quilting for a long time & have always had difficulty with "ending" the binding! Everyone has a "simple" way but this is by far, the easiest I have ever seen! Thank you, Jenny!! I love Missouri Star.
I'm doing my first ever quilt! I'm doing all my learning via youtube. These video tutorials are my go to. Thank you!
I’m a fellow lefty and your videos have helped me so much! It’s hard to find a lefty with quilting videos!! Thank you!
Watched this video on a Sunday while the hubby was fishing. I agree with Jenny, Hallelujah and the angels sang! I was able to get a binding on! Thank you so much for this video! Amen!
The BEST! Simple, precise, do-able, easy to follow, I watch and I do it. Cannot get better than Jenny! Her humor makes me chuckle... easy to listen to, and a little humor goes a long way in learning new things. Thank you, Jenny! We love you!
I love watching Jenny’s tutorial,, she spoke clearly and I can understand it very well! I learn so much and easily. Thank you so much. May God bless you!
You are HANDS DOWN my favorite tutorial person. You've given me so many "Ahh Haa- Light Bulb going off Moments! Thank you.
I have finished several quilts in the past 2 years and have watched this video every time. I am always uncertain when it comes to closing the binding but you are always there to help and reassure me. Thanks
The best binding tutorial by far! Thanks so much, Jenny - your thorough and clear instructions are a Godsend for someone who’s just starting their quilting journey.
what a GREAT tutorial!! one of my friends in my quilting group told me to look to youtube for a tutorial for putting a binding on my quilt. Well this was the first one that popped up, and I have to say, she did an amazing job showing you from start to finish, every single step there is to putting your binding on your quilt!! And she spoke in easy to understand terms, made sure you could see up close what she was doing, at each new step in the process; just overall a great tutorial to watch. I will definitely save this video so that if I ever need to refer back to it, I won't have to go searching again!
Dearest Jenny, You made this look so easy. It took me 5 tries, 2 bouts of tears, one 2 year old temper tantrum which involved me throwing my quilt, 3 more times watching this video and FINALLY I have my binding on my quilt. Thank God for you and your endless patience and joyful manner - you make me feel like I can do anything.
Ha ha ha Kathy I'm hearing ya!!!! Glad to know I'm not the Only 1 that struggled!! Yes I agree Jenny you make it seem so easy!!! lol
We're so glad that you were able to do it!!! :) Jenny is very patient... ;)
I've cried in front of the sewing machine more than I've ever cried before in my whole life!
This video is so helpful! I don't quilt enough to remember all the steps, so every time I start a quilting project I come back to check this video as a reference. And Jenny is a delight!
😂 I keep coming back again to this same video myself! Ha ha!
This was one of the first videos I watched when I decided to try my hand at quilting a couple of years ago. Binding intimidated me but this video explains it so easily that it made me want to try it. My binding always turns out great because of your techniques. I keep this video link handy just in case I ever need to refresh my memory a bit when binding a new project. Thank you for your help.
I have to re-watch this with every quilt.... I don't think I'll ever remember it
You're not alone. Let's hope Jenny's tutorial is always available 😊
Me too, I have to watch it every time!
I’m getting ready to bind my first quilt- thank you so much for providing this video, I actually believe I can get this task done now. 🙂
I just finished binding a quilt I made for my daughter. I watched the video several times until I felt confident to do it myself. Thank you for making these videos available to those of us who are needing the support you offer!
Every day comes with renewed hope and new opportunities, make sure to seize them! Have a nice day!
This was extremely helpful! Thank you! Now that my grandma has passed, I cannot ask her anymore. I really appreciate this! All the best.
I am so sorry that you have lost a loved one with whom you shared the joy of sewing, and was a sewing mentor, as well as a grandmother. She has obviously given you a great legacy!
I love the binding fairy reference. This hand stitching demo is priceless AND the binding tutorial is so simple and easy to understand. So many thanks.
Absolutely the best quilt binding tutorial ever! I'm a novice quilter and using this method, I have had perfect bindings every time! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Lights, bells and whistles indeed! Thank you Jenny!
It will
LIFE CHANGING! Thanks for this. I am about to do my first binding, and now I'm excited and looking forward to it, rather than feeling intimidated and inadequate! I never in a million years would've figured out how to do this so easily or with such perfect results. Thanks especially for all the different camera angles, esp. the extreme close-ups.
I've never quilted before, but I wanted to make some mini mug rugs out of mask scraps. This video showed me exactly what I needed to know to finish them off nicely. Thank you!
Oh my gosh, the Stars just aligned on how to “get it together” on the finishing of my binding.
I Love You! Thank You Jenny Doan ❤️
Thanks Jenny!! I had never ever done a binding after many years of quilting. The time finally came so I watched this video following each step, plus your video on hanging sleeves. I was pretty nervous but stepped through the instructions and it turned out beautifully. I still need to do the hand stitching, but enjoying the after glow of success with no picking. Thank you so much!!!
Hi Jenny! Thank you for all your informative and interesting sewing tutorials. I basically learned how to quilt watching all your videos. This one in particular has been a constant 'go-to' for me, it's the best binding video (and way to make and attach binding) ever! Even after all these years, every time I finish attaching the two end pieces of my binding I always say..."and the mystery of binding is solved" hearing your voice in my head. Thank you so much for sharing and illustrating these helpful sewing techniques.
This is my go to video for bindings. I always refresh myself and use this technique anytime I putting on a binding. So far it has worked out perfectly every time. Thank You.
This tutorial is such a valuable resource. I love being able review it whenever I'm binding another quilt. Thanks!
Thank you, Jenny. This tutorial is so understandable, I think I can do it.
I'm so grateful that this video is still up after five years! This is the best explanation of binding I've seen. AND you're left handed like me!
Thank you Jenny
I love all of your videos but this one I have watched over and over again. In fact, every time I need to do a binding, I watch it again for review. If I ever get to Missouri, I will seek out your shop and thank you in person for all the great tutorials that you have provided. You are an awesome woman.
Susan
I've bound my first three quilts with a machine and have not been able to figure out how to do it by hand through the books I have so this tutorial made it so much easier for me so that I can hand bind since my next two quilts I've nearly completed are for other people! Thanks. I love Jenny Doan's giggly personality too. She definitely wasn't boring! :)
Hi Victoria, how's your day going with you?
Thank you, Jenny for making this an enjoyable and super learning tutorial!! Although I've been quilting for years, I'm a self taught quilter and missed a few tips along the way. You were a pleasure to watch and I really was happy you kept it "real". You even had me chuckle a few times. Thanks a bunch.
Thanks Jenny for this tutorial. I come back again and again to view it, every time I have a quilt to finish. It's a gorgeous tutorial, very useful!
Finally! A great, no-fail way to make those binding ends meet without bulk. Thank you so much, Jenny! I wish I had come across your tutorial years ago!
I've made numerous quilts but I learn from y'all still. One of these days I'll finish my binding without looking for this video again to remind me how. Works everytime!!!
Joyce Burrill EVERY SINGLE TIME, RIGHT!!!
Yep, same here! LOL
Same here. Did it again today.
Me too
Just watched this video again for the Nth time! :)
Whenever I need to know how to quilt, bind or whatever I always go to your videos. They explain things so well and I know exactly what to do. Thank you so much Jenny.
Honestly, I’ve done over 15 bindings last year and I still have to watch this tutorial before I do that last bit of sewing together the ends of the binding. I still manage to twist it about 20% of the time. I take a long pin now along my sewing line first to make sure it’s going to lay correctly. Thank you Jenny!
Hi Teri, how's your day going with you?
Hi Teri The best way to start a day is waking up early in the morning and enjoying nature with a cup of coffee.
LOVE this...now to finish my current quilt. I also noticed your Wedding Ring Quilt and I just finished mine after having it in storage for over 20 years!! And, I also used red binding like yours. The binding was an issue on that quilt but I made it through. Now I have a log cabin lap quilt to finish and it will be finished by following your very EASY instructions. Thank you so much!
First, I love you, Jenny!!! Went to one of your seminars in Greensboro, NC this past August and was thrilled to meet you in person. You light up the room with your smile and personality. Ok - I revisit this tutorial every time I have to sew a binding on one of my quilts, because I just don't get it. After reading a lot of the comments here, I am soooooooo glad that I'm not the only one who has a mental block about how to do this. I also start and stop the tutorial many times, rip out the seam A LOT, and then the light goes on and I get it! Biggest problem is how to turn the fabric, join and not twist it. I'll get it one of these days,. Thanks, Jenny, for all of your tutorials. I've watched so many and have learned so much.
Thank you for teaching me how to quilt! Just finished my first using this tutorial and feeling tremendous gratitude for the knowledge I gained watching your tutorial. Now I’m ready to bind something else! :)
Thanks for the excellent explanation & especially that trick about combining the final pieces together. So excited to spend my afternoon binding a wedding quilt that's been in the works for five years!
My best teacher thru the years❤️I’m still watching your video every time I bind . Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
I just love Jenny :). She's so great. I always try Missouri Star first when buying fabric or quilting supplies online because of Jenny Doan. I'm a self taught quilter and her videos have been beyond helpful. Thank you so much Jenny!
Seriously don't know what I would do without this video! Every time I do binding I think I have it and I don't, so I always come back here! Love your videos.
Same here! I come back to this video every time I need to bind a quilt!
I have watches this video many times and it's helpful every time and I very much enjoy Jenny and her chatting along with the instructions, thanks again Jenny for all your help
Thanks for making this process so wonderfully clear. It worked perfectly! I even decided to finish my binding by hand!
OMG! I have always hated doing the binding, that is until now! I tried your methods, both the corners and the ending. Perfect! The big leap of faith was cutting the binding after overlapping 2 1/2". Where has this been all my quilting life!!
BTW I love your tutorials. Working on a smaller version of your curvy log cabin
Thanks so much, that’s the most perfect binding tutorial ever and your way of explaining everything is just the loveliest. From Italy with love.
Many, many quilts later and I still keep checking here before I do my binding. Best binding tutorial on RUclips.
You can never take this video off RUclips! I come back to it again and again every time I finish a quilt. I know exactly where the description of connecting the two ends of the binding is. I need this refresher course every time. Thank you!!!
Thank you for showing us how you finish the ending, this is something I've struggled with. Even my sewing tutor didn't know how to do bias binding and referred to Pintrest to show her.
How to do quilt borders
Thank you for the great tutorial on binding a quilt. It's been years since I've quilted, and this was good to review exactly how to finish the quilt that I worked so hard on. Thank you again!
This video was so helpful! It is clear and to the point which I love! I am not a big quilter but I have a quilt my grandmother made for me that needed rebinding. This video taught me all I needed to know and it came out perfect. Thank you!
Jenny is an excellent instructor! She is precise, methodical and slow to explain and show us what to do! Thank you Jenny!
I worried about committing almost 17 minutes to something I've done a dozen times before - BUT - totally worth it. Another great video by MSQ. Love these videos. Keep them coming.
Thank you so much Jenny! I was really stressing about binding my quilt and then you made it so easy!
Thank you for helping me bind my quilt. I always hated binding until your your tutorial! Thank you again for making it so easy!!
I have come back to this video often to help me with my binding. I find it so helpful. Two tips I’ve found helpful in my beginner's binding journey . . . Experiment with different size widths to find the one that works best for you. Mine is three inch for most things. Second, I machine sew both sides of my binding and going very slow helps me sew a better binding. When I first started, I went too fast for my skill level. I don’t have the eyes to hand sew and I don’t like how long it takes on even lap size quilts. So, I machine sew.
Thanks Jenny! I have the same problems with seams going the wrong way so now I know how to avoid that. Also I just did a pillow kit that said to make straight binding. I didn't know to sew the strips together on the bias at the seams (the few things I ve made so far called for bias binding). Eventually, I hope to get the rules down and remember them and just sit down and sew! Love your videos and your projects.
Amazing tutorial! Thank you. You are very clear !
The videos from Missouri Star Quilt Company are the best!!! Thank you Jenny Doan.
Thank you Jenny…I had begun hand piecing/hand quilting a quilt for my youngest daughter almost 32 years ago-and never finished it until recently. The entire quilt is by hand-except for the binding. I’ve never been one to love machine sewing so I was very hesitant about putting the binding on. Your very informative video helped me tremendously (after viewing it a gazillion times!) it turned out perfect! Now my “baby” girl finally gets her quilt and will be able to hand it down to her soon to be born baby. Thanks so much!! God bless!
This is by far the best way to bind a quilt, it's so easy and take so much less effort.. THANK YOU
Faron Smith Glad you enjoyed it! :)
2020 found this tutorial this year. What a great help! I have bound 5 quilts using this technique. Thank you.
I’m making a quilt for the first time in years and this video was such a help. Thank you, I will refer to it every time that I need binding instruction.
Thank you for this tutorial, Jenny! You make the hand stitching look quite easy! Now that I've seen this, there won't be any problems! Thank you!
My first binding. I got the binding on perfect, except I over screwed up 2 corners, but all fixed now. Thanks Jenny for this tutorial. I couldn't have done it without you.
Great tutorial ! No special tools required...you could even use the "left-over" binding to measure the amount of overlap
required when ending the binding...great!
Thanks so much, Jenny! I've been quilting since 1979 but have never added a binding in this way because I thought it would be too hard. But I finally decided to try it and I went to you for help. You made it so easy for me! It was great to be able to go back and watch parts over again. Thank you so much. It looks so great!
Great tutorial Jenny, thank you. Ever since I found your tutorials, I've become addicted to them and I just love the way you teach. I live in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and even if we can't find everything to make our work easier, I manage because I love to learn.
This tutorial has been so helpful! I am working on binding my first quilt and I feel so confident with it after working through this video!! Thank you for your awesome demonstration!
I love your videos.you are great. I learned so many things from you...
Jenny, thanks so much. I made a traditional 12-block quilt (by hand) and bound it with
help from my quilting group. Now I'm wanting to bind something on my own, and I'd
forgotten how to do it. You've reminded me with your very easy and happy video.
I refer back to this video every time I get to the binding stage. Which is why I'm here now. Best tutorial ever! Thank you!
I love your teaching videos. I'm not a quilter, don't like sewing, but my three daughters begged me to make them quilts. Where to start? Thank heaven for your videos.. they saved me! :) Plus, you are a riot to watch-- so cute!
+Jennifer Ericksen Thank you so much! You'll be a quilter in no time! ;) Let us know if you have any questions along the way!!

So do you make quilts now after making them for your daughter’s? Just curious 🤔
Thank you, thank you for this. Just finished my first quilt, and your videos helped a lot!
That's awesome!!! We're super proud of you!
Thanks to Jenny’s explanations, I succeeded to join both ends of the bias after it was sewn around the quilt. Real good quilting teacher.
Thank you for this tutorial. I always liked binding my quilts. I learned a few things that will make binding perfect and even more fun. Love your tutorials.
I tried this on a lap-size quilt and it worked THE FIRST TIME! I am so shocked and excited! Thank you so much!
+Susan Castelletti you are so welcome! :)
Hi Susan, how's your day going with you?
So, last year I listened to a "Without Fail" podcast that featured the Missouri Star Quilt Company. What a joy to search for binding tips and find one of your videos. I hope your business continues to thrive.
Hi Hilary, how's your day going with you?
This may be an older video, but….THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! You are the first person I have found who actually specified how much fabric to cut away from the binding when you are joining the ends together. After two unsuccessful tries which left me scratching my head, you said “for a 2” wide binding, cut off 2” and I did that and my binding fit perfectly. So thank you again! Wendy
Thanks. I have a quilt that I pieced 26 years ago. I finally got the quilting done and now need to bind. You have taught me a lot.
A quilt which was started in 2008, has been completed today!! (my very first quilt from beginning to end). Thank you so much for your very easy to follow and very informative tutorials - couldn't have done it without your help.
Isn't that such a wonderful feeling? Love it!! :)
Congratulations
I like watching Missouri Stat Quilt. The make it loks simple. They swow lots of short cuts. Make hard petterns much more easy.
Fate led me to this tutorial just as I was needing it. GREAT tutorial and awesomely easy process!!
I've never made a quilt before but after watching many many MSQC videos, and videos on how to use my new machine, I think I'm ready to try, Thank you for explaining everything so well!
Glad we could start you on your quilting journey, Melissa!
Oh my goodness. Thank you so very much for this wonderful tutorial. My corners are now so perfect and flat. The awesome tip with regards to finishing off the binding is a GAME CHANGER!!!!!! Woot-woot👍😊
