    this one looks nice .. and aluminium instead of plastic is welcomed. If I wanted this blade shape and small size Id probably still pick Kansept Main Street with Anodized Titanium for $130 or Kizer Mini Critical either with 3V and micarta or version in Titanium for 100 bucks ..

    I hope they make a larger one and don't raise the price that much. Regarding Benchmade Quality Control I can only speak for ME, but I handle quite a few in a year as I sharpen knives for people. And I often get knives sent straight from the dealers to me, and I have seen some really messed up knives from them (all made in 2022-23). But I don't know, maybe Benchmade sends all their messed up knives to non US distributors. The knives I have seen should have never passed QC, varying from the FRN being all scuffed up and frayed, to crooked pivots. But as I said I can only speak for myself and what I experienced. Their CF, G10, and Aluminum scaled models seem to have much better QC as I very rarely see issues on them compared to FRN models.

      My CF elite bugout I purchased straight from BHQ got so bad after six months, I threw it away and swore off omega springs for life 😂
      I didn’t really like how the scales felt so it never got carried, as I planned to put ti scales on it eventually. So, it sat in my pelican case with other knives in my collection for six months. I only ever couch flipped it. Both omega springs broke from fidget use only, and the coated s30v blade rusted for some reason. I have a sneaking suspicion that the action was tuned incorrectly and the springs were under too much tension, because they both snapped at the same time, in the closed position. Not realizing they had snapped, I went to grab the knife and the blade just flopped open 😂
      Needless to say, that combined with the oxidized coating, caused me to just go “wtf” and I threw it in the trash. Never again.

  • @srogers311
    @srogers311 Год назад +5

    Ive noticed the 'stickyness' in new coated bechmades is the ramp on the back of the blade and the lock bar which are also coated. Once you wear these away down to the steel it is smooth as can be. But also make sure if you send your knife into benchmade for service that you ask them not to replace the lockbar

  • @StephenGaskinsJr
    @StephenGaskinsJr Год назад +3

    Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I've had problems with their QC on several knives in the past year, including one that came from the custom shop. We're talking stripped screws from the custom shop, poor action, crazy amounts of blade play way beyond what's normal for the brand, way too much loctite, thumb studs rounding out even when using the proper tools for disassembly.
    The knives were 2 Bugouts (one of which was a custom), a Griptillian, a Mini Osborne.
    I will give them a shout out on the quality of the Adamas and Super Freek. Both of those were amazing and have zero issues.
    I still love all these knives, but I'm not convinced their QC is up to par.
    When Benchmade gets it right, they're hard to beat, but it's super frustrating to have issues at this price point.

    With regard to the "Butterfly Tax" I understand more where they're coming from with pricing. USA made knives. They pay their people very, very well, by all accounts. Premium materials. Original designs. Also, there's a certain public perception that they need to maintain as a premium manufacturer. Sig firearms does the same thing. They won't allow their retailers to sell their products under a certain amount or their contract to sell will be canceled. I understand that.. That being said... For me, what's important is how much value I can get for my money. Which means Chinese made high value brands like CJRB, Civivi, etc. I won't say anyone is stupid for buying Benchmade. That's makes sense to them. It's their money. But don't lord it over the people who buy lower priced knives because that's what makes sense to them.

    • @clintstinkeye5607
      @clintstinkeye5607 5 месяцев назад

      They should have better fit and finish standards for the prices.
      I've had many Q/C issues with BM over the years and I don't understand why.
      I'm okay with legalized pot, I just wish they'd wait till after work to get baked.
      That's fair, IMHO, especially for the prices.
      Great designs.
      Too many apprentice level results.
      I've reassembled at least a dozen factory BMs to a standard the freakin factory should have met.
      Pisses me off.
      I expect factory edges to need work from any maker, but the builds should be repeatably uniform.
      Repeatability was forged into my soul during my boatbuilding apprenticeship.
      Wish others were more focused on it.
      The knife looks super great.
      I'd love to have one with a blade that is properly tempered.
      BM cpm m4 sure is softer than it should be.
      It's not hard to do something correctly if you know how to.
      I dunno.

    I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU - BENCHMADE REALLY NEEDS TO PRODUCE AN 'XL VERSION' OF THE FULL IMMUNITY! If it was a 3.5 to 4 inch blade with a full 4-finger grasp handle - that would be an awesome EDC blade! I love that they made it from CPM-M4 as well as the beautiful aluminum handle scales with diamond texture, so I would hope they would keep this. I was thinking they could call the XL version:
    "BENCHMADE FULL IMMUNITY - BOOSTER SHOT"! (Maybe even an XXL version and call it "Double-Boosted"!)
    Great point about quality control at Benchmade. I don't even know how many Benchmades I have - at least 30+ for sure - I have NEVER had any problems with the quality of ANY of my Benchmades (going back to when Griptilian was a new thing and the OG Adamas in D2), and I have NEVER had an Omega Spring break! I'm not saying it never happens, but every knife I have ever gotten from Benchmade has excellent fit & finish out of the box. Any company is going to have some occasional duds that accidently get through the QC or have a part that fails. Also several good points about the pricing.
    LOL your comments about, "Why not just get a utility knife?" 😂🤣😅🤣 I was literally and heartily LOL when you said, "Fell out of an idiot hole in the sky" and "Shut up - Nobody cares about your Milwaukee Fastback", and "Or Husky, whatever, you know, budget jar at Home Depot"🤣😂😅🤣

  • @willowstream

    I have a Full Immunity. I understood the size before I ordered it. I own a ruler.
    It's a great knife if you're skillful with a 2.5" blade. An average folder has a 3" blade, and a folder designed for someone's tactile fantasy can have up to a 4" blade. A 2,5" blade is enough for daily tasks, and the blade shape of the Full Immunity lends itself to opening packages and mail, and cutting down on a forgiving surface. Along eith that, it's a classy little beast, and built to exacting standards.
    I don't mind the price, but I did get a good deal from an eBay seller with 1000s of five star reviews, so I don't pay $300.00 or even $270.00. I'd rather have a Benchmade at a premium price than support the flooded market of Chinese folders.

    Idk man, normally I'm hearing out your takes, but the BM QC issues arent unfounded claims. I bought a new Osborne a couple months ago, and even adjusting the pivot to the point of losing action, theres still noticeable amount of side to side blade play. Other crossbar style locking knives i own from other cheaper companies do not have this issue.

    I have had about a dozen Benchmades from 2002 to now, and I have never had any Q.C. issues with any of them. The edges on them have been very good with only one exception on a Griptillian (The edge was even; it just was not very sharp. It was fixed easily with a few passes on a ceramic rod). Maybe I just got lucky.

  • @YourHandleHere84
    @YourHandleHere84 11 месяцев назад +1

    In my personal experience with buying half a dozen Benchmade knives over the last three years, Benchmade still falls short more often than not on their out of the box quality control for axis lock stick, grit, edge grind, blade centering, etc. That being said, they are also more than happy to put in the effort to make it right if you’re willing to take the time to send it in. Is that acceptable considering the price? That’s entirely up to personal opinion.

  • @Devon.-

    You can pick up a PM2 in S45VN and a Civi Qubit in Damascus and still have enough money for a nice lunch for that price tag… Benchmade price tags are getting ridiculous for what they are offering.

  • @MrTHORN74
    @MrTHORN74 Год назад +1

    The issue with the price is the Bailout, m4 with milled aluminum scales, has a $300 MSRP, and is substantially bigger. Same company, same materials, diff sizes and same price. That doesn't make any sense to me.

  • @irishpotato7399
    @irishpotato7399 Год назад +1

    My only real issue with the knife is when I pulled the lock bar back and flicked my wrist to shut it the force of pushing the handle into my palm allowed the blade tip to graze my palm and cut me when I shut it. None of my other benchmades have done this. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a lock that keeps my fingers out of the way of the knife if I still have to worry about it cutting me when closing.

    I absolutely love Benchmade knives. In my opinion by far the absolute best pocket knives available anywhere in the world. I currently have 15 Benchmade knives. One more on the way. I have never had a single issue or problem with any of my 15 Benchmade’s. I do see a lot of reviews about bad quality control. However I have never experienced this issue. I bought my first griptilian 14 years ago. Back when 154CM was the standard steel. Before S30V. I live in the PNW, my favorite steel is M4. I use blue lube, and have not experienced any issues with corrosion. It’s very, very possible that this itty-bitty will be my next precious.

    Bought a brand new FS Adamas in cruwear recently that has lock rock and it's really disappointing, their QC can't be all that amazing. I've also got a 533 that won't function unless the pivot is loose enough to wiggle. The only decent BM I've got is the KC exclusive 20cv Griptilian. I live a 5 minute drive from their factory in Oregon City, OR but find it hard to carry one daily if I'm honest.

    As most people, my only problem I have with Benchmade is the pricing they keep putting out. Not so much with this, but the new gold class, limited-edition Bailout with titanium scales and M4 is $600. A regular Bailout with aluminum scales and M4 is $270. I have experience with exactly 1 Benchmade knife, my Bugout. I bought it a few months ago from Midway. It arrived not particularly sharp, with an off center blade. I tore it down, cleaned it, very carefully polished the washers with Simichrome, and lightly lubed them with KPL. Reassembled with brass Meton Boss scales, and the blade is still off center, and only marginally sharp, and the action is only marginally better. For the money they charge for this knife, zero of these problems should exist. My $50 Vosteed Racoon is a better knife. For 340% more money, shouldnt the Bugout be at least as good?

    I like small knives, but even I want this one a little bigger. Just enough to make that sharpening choil a finger choil. Thankfully, many other makers have thought of exactly that, I have have a ton of choices.

    Yes MC, I too failed to use the few brain cells I have to read specs. Bought a $280 UTX-70 and all the way up until I opened the box thought it was a midsize knife. (Insert losing price is right music) never again have I skipped over specs!!

    I got a 940 about a month ago and I was in love then two weeks later my springs snapped which was kinda whatever so i got them fixed but now my blade wont stay centered so now all the enjoyment from the knife is kinda gone and I dont feel confident about the brand as a whole.

    Mine became fallshut after a few days. II find that this is typically the case for coated blades. I personally love miine. Easy 5th pocket, super light compact carry. As for first knives - my first "good knife" after a 2002 Kershaw designed by Ken Onion, was a Benchmade Gold Class (my life had changed since 2002), and I have a handful of customs more expensive, but typically buy in the $250-800 range (so, in the higher end, Demkos, Hinderers, the Reate and Bestech made self published knives, Koenigs, etc...) I am not bragging, just saying tha as MC sys, all paths are different. When I bought the Gold Class, my idea] was I wanted something really nice, andthat it would be one and done. But of course, I fell down the rabbit hole, like everyone else. Have a great day everyone. Be happy. Be open. Don't judge others.

      I totally agree. I've noticed the people who shame me for working out are fat and lazy, I can only assume the people who bitch that we buy nicer knives are poor and lazy. That's the nature of underachievers. They hate on anyone who makes them feel "less than" even tho they are the only people comparing.

    Design is great and what not but I agree, it’s too much money for what it is. The Bailout M4 is basically the exact same knife with a different shape and bigger for the same price. It’s a great knife, just needs to be cheaper.

    What about the name "immunity" whether full, auto or partial versions and them putting the C19 virus image on the show side pivot screw? Nice touch and good knife, expensive...YES, but i just had to get one to try. the blue one is very pretty! Good review. I pre-ordered for $230, still high but a little more tolerable. i guess you got a better price if you pre-ordered.

  • @AnonAnon-qi4ts
    @AnonAnon-qi4ts Год назад

    Benchmade needs a 4-inch blue class knife. This is a huge hole in the lineup. Adamas is just too much in the pocket. Crooked River has a round handle and is for people who love classic knives. Need a 4-inch, bugout-style knife at 3 oz. and .11 blade stock with a spear or sheepsfoot and a spydie hole option like the grip sheepsfoot.

    I absolutely love the aesthetic of this knife but I absolutely hate the price tag also even as a small knife enjoyer I would prefer to carry a larger one of these. Benchmade seems a little off their rocker on prices in comparison to whats available but hey we apparently buy enough of these things to keep them in buisness. Even if the orice was a little higher If this was Titanium scales and construction and scaled up to a 3.5 inch blade I probably would own my very first Benchmade but alas.

  • @scottdavis3187

    OK... there's a reason Benchmade can charge more and get away with it, and that's because people in the non-knife community think "Benchmade is THE BEST!!!!". And if a wife offers to buy hubby something special for his birthday, he might say "I've always wanted a Benchmade..." and boom, the premium price is paid. Hey if Benchmade is in that position then you can't blame them for doing that, business is business (De Beers diamonds for example). I happen to buy Benchmades at REI when they have 20% off events, and I apply whatever dividend I have at the time, I usually get them for free, I picked up the Immunity in green during the May event this year and my final cost was $38. I have ALL of the Osborne permutations for example, I only paid the De Beers price for a couple of them (the DLC version with Aluminum scales, I found new old stock at a local shop and paid too much, but was HAPPY about it!). And yes I have the CF version and yes I got that one for free.
