I’m calling KDHX on Monday and canceling my monthly donation, and my endowment from my will. The message: KW and the board resign, the volunteers are reinstated, and a new board elected.
im a college student and i only found kdhx a couple years ago and i cannot tell you how much it SUUUUUUCCKKKS to find something so good and have it ripped away so soon!! UTMOST respect for everyone who helped make the station was it was before All Of This Crap.
This whole situation is so saddening. A beloved institution on life support. And the sad thing is that Kelly and Gary may be arrogant enough to sink the whole ship rather than change course.
What a nightmare. KDHX was a sacred and precious cultural institution. And then a narcissist with an ambiguous agenda got into power and violated our sacred thing. She needs to go immediately. This is coming from a guy who grew up in St. Louis and now lives in NJ. I park my radio to WFMU 24/7. KDHX played a similar role in St. Louis.
Larry Weir was my closest friend when we went to Drury College together. He and I both had a passion for music. I was happy when he became a program director at KDHX. I’m confident that he would be very disappointed at this turn of events in a station that he helped to build. I hope you all can turn this around and continue with the greatest community radio station in existence.
Yeah, I helped clear out the debris and tear off the roof. I painted and pounded nails and anchored the first membership drive. I was selected as an Associate Member and served as an officer on the board of directors. I was active in the organisation for almost 15 years. This is not a new fight, but it seems to be the most intense so far. I now live over 5,000 miles away, but these people have my best wishes in their noble fight.
I was 15 years old and lived in the 3400 block of Pestalozzi when KDHX went on the air. I remember being so stoked that a REAL radio station was in my neighborhood. Over the years I would bumb along with my late friend Joe Jaeger doing street team in Soulard. He would literally evangelize for the station to anyone who would listen, he believed in the power of community. This would light such a fire under his ass to fight. Between the two of us we must have placed a hundred KDHX stickers on dumpsters from Chicago to New Orleans. If it's gonna take a fight, so be it.
KDHX is a shell of its former self. I've been listening since 1991 when I discovered it in high school, but ever since Bev Hacker left, it was never the same. Damn shame. I hope it comes back to its former glory, and if it does, I'll tune back in. But for now, my stereos/radios are only playing NPR, CDs, and occasionally KSHE (because I'm a South Side Hoosier at heart). The firing of Drea, Papa Ray, bobEE Sweet, Andy Coco, and Grandfather Paul Stark are especially offensive (Paul in particular because I was one of the original bartenders at the Tick Tock Tavern revival in 2014 and tended bar when he hosted the artists for the family shows for Musical Merry-Go-Round at the tavern, as well as being our door guy on the weekends). I was awestruck on my visit almost 30 years ago at the old location. My friend, musician, Chris Johnson brought me with while he did sone volunteer work... I has done a little dj-ing overnights, at Kenyon College at a similar small grass roots station but hadn't known that StLouis had anything that great... so I started to listen. I loved the way every part of my many personalities/tastes were fed by the different kinds and eras of music.. I've learned so much and found so many gems that I would not have ever found on commercial stations... Such quality djs and choices they've made.... I honestly don't grieve this implosion caused by as was said here,... power and ego... I have NO DOUBT that they are no match for what we have. It's only a matter of time before we reclaim what you already built from the ground up. I've lived long enough to be sure that when someone is so far over the line of someone else's boundaries, there is ALWAYS a correction and a karma. We need to organize and apply the laws.
Man, this is breaking my heart! I’ve listened from the start AND supported the station. Who remembers “ The adventures of Ruby the intergalactic gumshoe”? This station NEEDS new leadership and get back my beloved DJ’s. GOD I MISS THEM.
Unfortunately that station will get NONE of my money! The entire board and management need to GO AWAY!!! My stepdad made all of the cabinets for the records at the original location. When they first went on the air, one of the DJ’s dedicated half of the day to him. It was the first time I got to hear the entire Love albums by The Cult! That was in 87! So shameful! Evil!
Wow all through the mid 80's to early 90's I lived upstairs from the Laundry mat Next door to that Building on Magnolia , Good times getting to meet the staff everyday and Hearing the evenings Playlists early . Thanks for Posting :) QC
I'm extremely upset about this happening. I have given to KDHX for close to twenty-five years. I was glad to give to an organization that was not only phenomenal in terms of its on-air presence but also because it represented the type of organization I've always wanted to give to: one that endorses passionate involvement and expression. It is almost an unfathomable outrage to treat people who have done such great work -- for free no less -- in such a beastly way. Imagine giving your all to something and then just being shown the door for excellent your work. I've left messages for the bozos management at KDHX but they're suddenly too timid to answer the phone so I can give them an adequate piece of my mind. If these fantastic volunteers are not reinstated, then another station, online and/or terrestrial, should be created. Many of the DJs' adherents,, including me, would be very willing to give quite a bit of money to that endeavor.
man i dont know the politics of most of this but kdhx helped me so much and to see it turn to what it is , is very sad music is emotion and very personal to people and this shift SUCKS!

I just looked at the list of people fired and the list of people who left... two things; HOW did these two people get hired there?????And here's the solution if you people are ready for it... get all of you together, throw them out of the building and lock the door on them... tell them they are gone.
