This must be how it feels when a museum burns down. John Prine was a pillar in songwriting. I would have given anything to sit down and listen to his stories for a few hours. There will never be another John Prine. RIP my Friend..........
John Prine. A great man who kept me from having a traumatic event. I fell at the Stadium in Memphis, TN I feel from top to bottom of steps. The kicker, my beer was still full. He laughed and clapped. I got a standing ovation from the Crowd. Thanks J. P. !
So sad John Prine didn't see his dream of being an old person come true. We miss you. My daughter one year gave me trip to Tulsa with her to see JP. His band was there, but right after the break, he came back out with just him and his guitar. That's how I love him the best.
I was so lucky to see this amazing man up front and personal at Holy Heart Theatre in St.johns, NL. My great friend got tickets for us to go both nights. His stories were as entertaining as his music. There’s a hole in the world! I am proud to sing and play some of your great tunes now than ever. Thank You Fiona, for locking him up in that hotel room. Rest In Peace John Prine! I love ❤️ you man!
Love this! John Prine is such a simple great man, yet his heart is wide open, and receives a lot of light, and then reflects it right back out for us all!!!!
Missing John today. I found out he has passed from the covd19 virus, we will miss him greatly. we do, however, have have his recordings to keep him with us. God bless you John.
I never knew who John Prine was until I heard of his passing. I consider myself very knowledgeable when it comes to music. I have been exploring John's music for the last 4 weeks and I can say that he, without a doubt, has become my most favorite song writer of all time. Such simple song structure with such a powerful message. I'm sad I never got to see you perform John. I hope you are having your vodka and ginger ale next to peaceful waters.
I feel the exact same way. I barely knew of him and when I dug in I couldn’t believe what I had been missing. He is now a huge influence on my songwriting. Hopefully I’ll get to 10 percent of his talent one day
Man, that's unfortunate. As good as his records are he was even better live. The man was a professional & a natural performer on stage and could hold a crowd in the palm of his hand like few others. Even at an advanced age his shows continued to be joyful events. I miss him & you've missed out.
Keep John Prine in your heart as he has been intubated since 3/26/20 and is in critical condition with COVID19. He beats cancer twice and now this virus attacks him; let's hope he pulls through it. His wife has also been diagnosed.
His music has been a part of me ever since I was a little kid and it's hard to believe he has the virus and I tear up now when I listen to his songs because it reminds me of his condition. It's probably the hardest thing that's hit me in a number of years.
How can this be related in any form to the Grammies that crappy pop artists get all the time? the world needs more of this, minimalistic, talented, intimate. No need to wgiggle your butt around and have 30 dancers.
Hey Sturgill...How about showin a genius picker / writer like John Prine a little respect ? You won't even look the man /master in the eye ?! Selfish & shameful !
@@johnmcclintock8004 Sturgill is too ashamed to do that because as good as he may be he can tell he can't hold a candle to Prine. they should have done 2 seperate shows

The poet laureate of loneliness passing in solitude is sadly ironic. Unfortunately there will be no toast at Armadillo World Headquarters tonight. We must all raise our glasses alone, as if he wrote the ending himself. To you John Prine, thank you so very much for everything. You loved us all and we love you back. Well done my friend.
Such a great interview, thank you Paul, for doing a terrific job provoking insight from John, and cultivating all of the great stories he had. I found additional ways to appreciate all three gentlemen. Sturgill Is so humble, nearly to the point of being aloof. I mean that in the best way. He speaks slowly and with such honesty. To me that shows great respect for John, Paul, and all of us, spectators. Thanks guys!
Thanks all on the internet for glimes of John Prime. Learning of him late. Angel From Montgomery was it 15 yrs. ago with Bonnie Raitt. Blessed are we with John Prine. From all angles serious, for, against, undecided. "In spite of ourselves we'll be sitting on a rainbow" Sam Stone.
@Nathan Byrd I hope you're kidding. Johnny Cash and Dylan both thought John was one of the best songwriters of their time. There would be no Sturgill if there was no John Prine.
@Nathan Byrd one of John's greatest attributes as a songwriter was how accessible he made extremely complex emotions that everyone felt at some time. Whether it was the dispare and loneliness that comes with never accomplishing anything in life (Angel From Montgomery) or the physical and emotional scarring that comes from war and the subsequent PTSD that follows (Sam Stone) or losing a huge part of your childhood memories to the "progress of man" (Paradise), John's lyrics were always easily digestible. He dealt with very nuanced topics that a lot of artists of his time hadn't even attempted, but he never felt like he was preaching. He told stories of every day people in a way anyone could understand. You had felt something John was saying in some way or another. He told stories that everyone lived or had known someone who had lived them, and he did it in a way that was refreshing and easy, and even sometimes comical. I guess if you don't understand it, you just might not ever. Everyone deals with loneliness, everyone deals with loss, everyone deals with heartache and everyone deals with the absurdity of life, and John painted beautiful pictures of that and still does today. If it was good enough for Dylan, Johnny, and Kris Kristofferson, it's good enough for me. If you can't see the genius in a song like Sam Stone I don't know that I can properly explain it.

I always wanted to ask John Prine what his thoughts and feelings were when he was on stage singing "Hello in There" with Kris Kristofferson and Joan Baez walked out from back stage and started singing with them.
When we saw Prine at the Sold Out Radio City Tree of Forgiveness Tour last April, he said that he and a friend (don't remember who) were sitting in a Box at Radio City when Bette Midler performed there. When she sang Hello in There, he turned to his friend and said, "Someday I'm going to sing that song here." And then he sang it.

Prine IS the voice of America. Over almost a half a century he has remained true to himself and America. Superlatives do not do him justice!
John is the voice of humanity, Touching, being moved and inspired.
I miss John Prine the most if any songster ever to pass away. I miss him every day just knowing he was in my world helped keep my blues away. RiP.
He always found the truth under the bright lights of the music world. I am so thankful for everything he ever wrote!!

I agree with Sturgill; George Harrison was a fantastic songwriter. A great example of his songwriting is "Within You, Without You" on Sgt. Pepper.
