The crazy thing is, 21 years later, he could probably jump on his kit right now and play this song with pretty much the same speed and intensity. He was born to play the drums.
1000% - I saw him with Empire State Bastard this year and he’s still an absolute beast. Which almost makes it hurt a little knowing Slayer could still be going strong with Gary Holt in Jeff’s place.
Yeah, I don't know how Slayer played its last show without Dave!
@@SovereignKing
Exactly. The way Slayer ended was just fucking sad.
@@keefriff99blame Kerry
ill give him that \M/
UnTOUCHABLE 🫡
Hear! Hear!
Paul was good at playing Dave's style live , but he couldn't write like Dave , he was the backbone of slayer.
@@aboutthemetal8783I think John dette did better. Paul is good and abit more rudimentary but his feet are slow.
The GOAT Drummer of Thrash Metal 🤘🏻
To all times! ❤
Man that gave me goosebumps. How is it even possible? That was as clean as the album version. He's like beyond legend. Thanks for posting this.
Those fills are insane! lol You'd think someone sped up the video.. lol
I know! The fills! He moves across the entire kit in the blink of an eye with absolute precision!
Practice makes perfect. And, believe me, He's practiced these parts for years. Not to ment tion he created them.
@@musingsofrock it's like he's having a seizure ha ha.
What amazes me more than anything else is how Dave can keep this up for an entire two hour or more show.
Exactly! I've known a lot of drummers that can play one song or two songs but cannot last the entire set. What I've concluded is that as with singers, a lot of people can drum and do 1-2 songs but to keep that up for 2 hours, that's a different professional level. Ritchie Blackmore said when they auditioned Cozy Powell they played one song off Rising like 33 times over and over again and all the other drummers fell apart and Cozy was the only one who could do it that many times as good as the first time and that's when Ritchie knew he was the one. So yeah, having that stamina is at another professional level.
I've also heard that he was known to not warm up before shows. Besides sound check, he just gets up and play.
Cocaine
1:41 the way dave pulls back on the tempo and creates that little pocked of air before the first snare hit on the groove part is so fuckin legendary, more drummers should be copying the dynamic aspect of his style more than just the thrashing
He's basically playing lead drums! lol
This is priceless if you're learning to play drums. Not any proper lesson, but just watching how Dave does it!
The best part about that is how clean he plays that
Musical history right there.
Best drummer ever
dave fucking lombardo, unique
Great drummer!!! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥
"How it this possible?!" - well, you're looking at it, aren't you? The reason is *Dave Lombardo*. He came up with it, he internalized it, he would play like that at 3 AM when you wake him up stone cold. And yes, he's otherworldly as well. :)
Edit: thank you so, so much for sharing this!!
This is something that almost seems impossible for sure.. It was that time when everything was pushed to the extreme.
Dave is like that Energizer Bunny that keeps going and going....
MONSTER
"It's one of our slower numbers."
- Tom Araya 1986
Fucking ballad.
Would love to have seen a drum cam of this song circa 1987 when they used to play it at near grindcore speed…
Watch the Ritz show from 1986, that´s pretty fast
The best.
undisputed champ!!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lombardo and Mensa , my fav 2
Art is such beauty can you just hear the pitter patter from the gorbing bass drum hitting you in your ears like god running in place in your head well thats kinda what it feels like more of that please and thankyou😂
The band is not the same w/o Hanneman and Lombardo
💯
They were slayer.
Dave is a one of drummer who responsible mixed hard core punk beat with metal...
Dave somehow leads with both his left and right hand.
Yep, he's left handed but plays right handed, but starts some of his fills as a lefty
Buen baterista
Шикарный драммер)))
Fastest slayer song
Love Man....fuck DRUM que técnica é essa.
wow incredible drumming skills?killer?
Lombardo is Slayer ,the worst desition was to let him go
tuca tuca tuca tuca tuca inventor
omg
F’ing rad, but do any of you notice how bad Slayer’s editor was when it came to putting live footage together? Pantera Domination has to be the gold standard for editing. You watch Slayer, whoever it is is missing solos or drum fills and just not paying attention to detail
This looks like it's sped up 🤟
Didn't they retire
Tom Araya did, so the rest had no option but to disband. Kerry King wasn't happy at losing his nice little earner and is supposed to be working on something new.
A song Paul Bostaph can't play .
All these modern metal show-off drummers who over-use blast beats (which sounds annoying to me, btw - it has this repetitive pecking sound that has no punch to it), use the same drum fill patterns (snare/double kicks/toms/double kicks over and over again), and try to be the fastest with their double kicks, suffocating the songs by putting as much of that into them as possible, which sounds so forced and unnecessary, don't come close to Dave Lombardo and his feel for the music. A lot of metal drumming became too flashy these days as many drum patterns became drum solos with technical show-offs and measuring of d*cks. Nothing beats old school. Nothing. 🤘
Most of it is using drum triggers. So it is not real. If you use drum triggers, it will align properly without you even trying. lol. Dave is the real deal!
Yeah, Dave crushes these new school trigger-using "brutal death metal" drummers and other show-offs and their bands like a bulldozer. 😁
don't forget this, besides the triggers, they use them drumheads very tight, which everybody's knows it makes it easier to play¡¡most of those drummer can't get hold of playing with a real drumkit and no triggers.nowadays you have drummers with a very light touch, ridiculous¡¡
@@designercaolho Thanks for that insight. That's the problem I have.. do you start a fill with the right or left hand because at some as you move through the kit, you get confused and fill turns into a dud.. lol.. Any tips?
Modern tech drummer you mean who. Even many of technical death metal drummers who play for real, no cheating in the path of the old school guys.
Shitting on all death metal drummers is a bit overreaction and silly (no offense). You can find some people talkin' about bonham of keith moon being the real deal and shittin' on guys like lombardo and i don't agree.
ONLY thing I hate about Slayer is that they screwed over Dave like really bad. FK them for that.
😆😂
Imagine being a cymbal ?
Lars drum cam? No thank you.
Inhuman
Mario duplantier was playing much better at age 16 in 1996. Whos dave?
Big fuckin deal
Witold "Vitek" Kiełtyka was playing much better at age 12 in 1996.
Who’s Mario?
The best average drummer in recent history, inthe 80's He was king
Yeah and any extreme drummer was influenced by him....nothing but a fucking LEGEND
@@designercaolho
Danny Carrey !??
It's not that fast
Hate me for this but he is good, but there are thrash metal drummers that are as cleaner than him.. like Mario Duplantier
And Dave is almost 60. Let's see Mario play at that age
thrash drumming is so boring
Seriously, not one comment about this video being sped up? What, 1.25, 1.5 fucking hilarious, but, not really. Congratulations on duping everyone...but me!
This is not sped up! That's how fast the song is. That's what's mind-boggling! His fills are insane.
@@musingsofrock I especially enjoy how fast the fog moves! His speed talking to his drum tech, or, whoever, is definitely a skill unto it's own! 😂
You think you are so witty. Listen to the song. In other live recordings if you must. It's the speed they play it at.
Dave Lombardo playing the drums to 248 bpm, is it insane! I seeing live 37 years ago, f*cking destructor! ❤️
