When Dominator quit the band i kind of lost interest in Dark Funeral as to me he was (and still is) one of the all time greatest metal drummers in the world. Then i got to see them live a while back, together with Cannibal Corpse, and they blew me away. Especially Janne, who deserves an apology, he crushed it and proved to be more than a worthy successor to Nils. I love this video, especialle the first blast after the two cymbal chokes. You almost think that blasting at that speed is impossible, but he just rips through as tight as humanly possible. Brilliant.
Janne is special in the world of extreme metal drumming. He incorporates single and double strokes with both his hands and his feet. He makes his insane speeds appear effortless and everything he embarks upon is masterful. His drumming on AEON’s ‘God Ends Here’ is sublime.

Caught Dark Funeral in Vancouver not too long ago. Was absolutely floored by Janne's drumming. Total assassin behind the kit.
Dark Funeral has had some amazing luck with these talented drummers which keep getting better and better.

i get loads of double triggering and it sounds like shit, because i rest my beater on the bassdrumhead.
all i wanted to say is that triggers are a way to make your bassdrumsound more audible, it has nothing to do with how clean or unclean you play

I remember when they started this one live, they knew what they were doing when they put that slow intro and I damn near shit myself how clean this was live.

I mean just a remarkable and tasteful player Janne is, his 32nd hand rolls are incredible to see, great fills too.

I feel like this guy is a bit more precise on the snare than Dominator. Either way both are excellent drummers. Dominator plays now in Nordjvel, another excellent band that actually reminds me of Dark Duneral as well!

Oh and respect man for actually blasting the hi-hat and not doing single notes on it! 🤘🤘 Some musicians do it and I always regard that as being lazy since it won't bounce back as much a ride (unless it's to create a rhythm - but I'm talking about those never blasting on it)!
I hate single notes on hi-hat during blasting. It's supposed to be forbidden.

sometimes during liveshows its done to aid the guitarist and the whole band in general. its easier to follow 8th notes on the to keep in time rather than 16th notes which turn out to be blur due to the nature of the hihat itself. the ride is an exception due to the fact that eavh hit is almost every time crystal clear and so easier to follow
@@hellgrinder2941 Yeah I know some people say that (like Eugene from Fleshgod) but when Francesco was playing he was going all in, just like Jaloma and the band was still keeping track.
I always thought (and have never played live so I might be in the wrong) that musicians would have metronomes in their in-ears and would listen to this instead of reducing the performance/tempo or would just be able to follow even though the drummer blasted at full speed. I mean if some drummers do it and don't break the show then why are some not able to... That's why to me it falls under "it's easier" rather than "I'm helping my fellow bandmembers". Might be a question of personal preference too.

Never thought i would say this, but i think it was slightly cleaner than Nils. Ο_ο
Cleaner for sure, but I still feel Nils has way more feel/dynamics to his playing and I think his style is more interesting too. This guy sounds like a drum computer (which is actually a compliment to him for being so insanely tight), but for me it kills a lot of that organic feel that Nils had. Nils also hits hard af!!

An emotional artist can play the same song but creates a tension and energy only imperceptible imperfections can give.
