Live in Australia where cyclones (different name for same weather phenomenon) are a yearly occurrence. Where they hit though is not heavily populated (North Queensland and Northern Territory). In the past decade we have a a category 5 cyclone(Cyclone Yasi) rip through towns but due to different construction techniques down here, most places were still standing after the cyclone went through. As usual though the community always pulls through and more often than not every thing is back up and running within a week.
@@tylerholmes6873 living in the atlanta area for 19 years , never seen a cat 5 hit anywhere near here. it’ll be tropical storms. we’ll get the aftermath
When Hurricane Fiona smashed into us in Nova Scotia as a Weakened Cat 3 the eye went right through us. I had never seen anything like it. I felt like I was taking off on a jet plane thats how loud it was. It smashed our car wash station to pieces and it was made of brick. We have never seen damage like that. Pole after pole after 40 foot tree uprooted. It was the worst storm we had seen in a long time. We deal with some pretty nasty storms, but this was the first storm I ever felt slightly concerned over.
@@MRNUGGET1534 it’ll probably just be a tropical storm so we’ll still get like 2-3 inches of rain so that’s still a good amount. HOPEFULLY it doesn’t landfall as a category 2 cause 🥲
Florida hasn’t seen a Category 5 for 32 years 😳😱 good luck to everyone and y’all’s homes. Not sure if Florida’s homes are built different in order to withstand different types of horrible weather. But I really hope so because 157 mph winds that’s unbelievable. My heart goes out to you all hopefully everyone was able to have a place to go to.
@@thegalhorowitz there is no shelter to go to😂 Was between my friends new house a little inland in Apollo Beach or going to Melbourne but it’s a fulllll house in Melbourne and Apollo beach is closer to the eye atp despite being a 2017 build. So we are staying in Ybor hoping this roof can hold up, we are just out of flood zone so we shouldddd be good there. No way we make it that far driving now and we couldn’t find any hotel. Also we left during Ian just to get stranded in Orlando 😂 it’s a hard decision but we are staying
Keep in mind the maximum speed of the hurricane winds! Now realize that with the maximum speed of the C-17 Globemaster III being 670 mph and its cruising speed being 520 mph, with the equivalent winds blowing on the outside of the jet plane, that there was no way anyone or anything could hold on to the vehicle as the fleeing Afghanis tried to do when the Taliban advanced on them.
Came here after Idalia. We dealt with 90 mph sustained winds a very strong Cat 1, almost Cat 2. We were out of power in the Big Bend for about a week. Just curious to see what a greater Category would have brought and grateful it wasn’t any worse.
No Katrina was a category 3 but it brought the hurricane surge that why it broke the weak levees and caused floods not wind like Hurricane Andrew that was a true Hurricane 5 190mph winds
