Jim Cantore vs. Category 5 Winds

- Jim Cantore heads to Virginia Tech where he steps into a wind tunnel. After taking on winds of Tropical Storm strength, he continues the climb through Hurricane force winds... and breaks a record.
His bald head makes him more aerodynamic.

This guy is simply amazing. For I live in Atlanta. A long time ago, I used to work out at sportslife gym in Buckhead. I knew and talked with jim cantore all the time while working out. I remember the very day that Jim was first hired with the weather channel. Amazing to see him grow into the icon of the weather channel which started some 25 years ago. He is and always has been an incredibly hard working and very kind gentleman. I have not seen him for all these years since at sportslife. It's so encouraging to see his life grow into a wonderful weather expert. Cheers.
This guy is on another level with presenting the weather.

Thats a Real Deal Weatherman. The hype at the end tells the passion he has.
I meet him at my uncles weeding. He knows, him personally. My uncle works behind the scenes in Atlanta and knows him. He is a really cool guy.
I like to call Jim Sir Thundersnow
Your uncle's weeding? Sounds like fun! :)
SEEMS LIKE A DICK
Does your uncle know him though
I sat by him on a plane once. Guy was non-stop freakin' on the clouds as we flew by...I mean non-stop. If Reed "HEAR THE ROAR" Timmer was with him, I would imagine they both would have orgazms and steal a joint in the bathroom after.
I'll never forget when I was a kid there was some hurricane that hit North Carolina REALLY hard. (There was a town with the name "devil" in it I don't exactly remember the name). But Jim was OUT THERE, fighting to stand up talking to the people at the studio, giving the viewers info, being professional. Hopefully by them seeing Jim struggle kept them inside. What a pro, what a legend.
Edit: looked it up "Kill Devil Hills" was the town (best town name ever) And it was Hurricane Isabel (2003)

Holy shit, rip the people who are going to get hit by Irma
They need to do no harnessed with padding all over the room just to see how much really a human can hold
The guy in the video said he's stood in 80 to 90mph winds. It looks like around 80mph he started losing his balance. There's a lot of factors that would have an impact. Primarily size, weight, and body position/stance but also things like the friction between your shoes and the ground, the clothing your wearing, and if the wind is laminar or turbulent when it hits you.
They should have put an oxygen mask on him just so he can breathe that way we would have known at what point do humans just start flying around
120mph holds your entire body off of the ground in a vertical wind tunnel, so they couldn't go past that standing in an upright position.
@@Primalxbeast just saying it would have been cool to see at what point do you just fly off like a piece of debris like a piece of paper but I understand to do that safely it would be really difficult but it still would be nice to try it maybe with padding and head gear I don't know
Fun fact : This was recommended after Hurricane Laura
Lmao
No.
It is one of my personal lifetime goals to experience the exact same thing Jim was doing. I studied weather all my life and experienced TS and Cat 1 (Irene) before, but never in full force, and even that is wild, and I'm sure the major zone (3 to 5) has to be berserk.
I’m majoring in meteorology and been through 90 mph squalls and a 115 mph tornado in a car. That stuff is no joke and changed my views on the power of this stuff.
Have you done it yet? I'm Floridian and plan on doing it in the next day or two, depending on when/where Ian lands. Done it before but it's difficult.

Wow.. This is nuts. I rode out hurricane Katrina in south Mississippi when I was 13 years old.. I didn’t quite understand the wind power. But I know the highest wind speed was 174 mph. I would have literally blown away like a leaf if I went outside. Thank goodness for my dad who built an underground bunker. Lol!
That was awesome! Been watching Jim since I was a kid, and I love his undying passion for weather and staying in top shape. I knew he had to break it, even if his skin was to come off. Lol
Standing at 80mph in a severe thunderstorm was a challenge. So I can't imagine 100 mph plus.
Tru considering the landfall in Mexico with winds of 150 mph or more. Or even worse Florida's landfall with winds above 160 mph
Kevin Day A bad storm during monsoon season in Arizona is the highest ive seen at around 95-110mph Its not that bad if you keep a good stance
Kevin Day When you add in rain then its literally walls of mist smacking you in the face

I think Cantore pooed a lil. Abdominal Pressure is quite low in a windstorm.
I just wish we could know if it's going to rain tomorrow. Weather Channel has a bad track record since becoming the Church of Global Warming.
Nigel 900 I'm trying to figure out the "science" of predicting a hurricane when you wait until an few hours before it hits before you make the call as to where it's going. It's like making a bet on a horse race and changing the bet as the race progresses.
Certainly, forecasting isn't a precise science and trying to accurately predict the outcome of a hurricane is hit and miss at best. My better point was that most forecasting today has been relegated to computer modeling, rather than a trained eye in the field. I think one, compliments the other. I challenge you to look at any of these computer modeled forecasts today, they change every 30 minutes to an hour. That's not forecasting. Hell.. I can look out the window and tell you what it will do in the next hour, with fairly good results. Thanks for the response friend.
