That's so cool that you knew these! The only one I knew was the address book because I had seen it asked so many times. Thanks for this info, and for the compilation(s).
For those wondering who it was that actually lost his address book flying in a helicopter over Greece, Dorothy once stated that she had actor Anthony Perkins in mind when asking the question.
Well, she did have help. Remember that the "mystery" contestant was very frequently someone premiering a film, or acting or directing in a play on Broadway or other stuff - and no one had contacts in the Manhattan theatrical community like Dorothy. So she would have had an extremely keen awareness of what celebrities were recently in town, or opening a play, or what have you - and also remember that Arlene Francis and Bennett Cerf lived in Connecticut and wouldn't have had their nose to the ground nearly as effectively as the "voice of Broadway" - not to mention they both had gigs that would have taken up a fair amount of time, especially in Cerf's case. So, yeah, she would definitely have a leg up with the mystery guests in particular. I think you'll notice that she didn't do nearly as well in areas like sports celebrities.
That look of joy on Dorothy's face when she guessed Richard Widmark was priceless! As a young boy that went to Bowie School, his portrayal of James Bowie was particularly special to me!!
Richard Widmark soon after made a noir film in which he was the good guy and Jack Palance threw another wheelchair bound invalid off a fire escape. I wonder if Widmark gave him lessons.
Thank you so very much for these, what a joy they all are to see again and many for the first time. I so appreciate your compilations. These old shows let the everyone see the ‘golden age of television,’ though too many are unappreciative. Just goes to show how far down the tubes that time has gone. These seem like yesterday - until I count the years. Time has flown, and it won’t be long until I fly as well. God bless, everyone.
This IS terrific! I'd love to know ... Was there ever anyone who answered in the affirmative to the odder questions - dropped your wallet from a helicopter (anywhere)? Or, did you ever study dentistry - in most situations an odd question, but on WML? Distinctly. I wish the clips were longer - just because they are so great and I'm curious. THANKS!
Hey Serena, thank you for the feedback. The answers are included, only 2 or 3 are missing, and they are No's. She never had affirmative answer on the dentistry and address book questions. You can click on my profile to see my other video re Dorothy. Regards.
06:39 Allan Sherman had the most annoying act in show business this side of Tiny Tim, and mercifully, disappeared quickly. His hit song was "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah."
Well, she was hoping that Tony Perkins would appear, so she was asking this question and if the answer was "Yes", she would have known it was him. Also I guess she liked showing she knows stuff
Have you ever driven a 1959 Chevy Impala through Oshkosh Wisconsin petting a 3 legged Golden Doodle with Gabby Hayes riding shotgun while listening to Strawberry Alarm Clock on eight track? . . . No? . . . Well, in that case, have you ever studied dentistry?
Have you ever studied dentistry as you dropped your address book out of a helicopter the day after the night we danced at Maxine’s before you slept on lavender sheets after you’d sat on Bennett’s lap when you autographed a pair of my shoes? No?
No, but I did serve two terms as Secretary-General of the UN before becoming a star attraction in the Cole Brothers Circus as the Human Cannonball understudy. By the way, have you seen my address book? I must have dropped it somewhere.
My guess is she threw out the oddball questions to throw the mystery guests off and get them to forget their pretend accent and instead answer (at least in part) with their real voices.

Re the address book question - Tony Perkins
Re "Have you ever slept on lavender sheets?" - Kim Novak

Re "Can your husband make furniture" - Dinah Shore
Amazing that you know ALL these, Teddy: thanks!
The questions make sense with those explanations. Dinah Shore was married to George Montgomery, who made furniture.
That's so cool that you knew these! The only one I knew was the address book because I had seen it asked so many times. Thanks for this info, and for the compilation(s).
What about the tie 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for that info!
In her line of work, she met many famous people under specific conditions. Big fan of hers

Dorothy's a National Treasure
1:58 The cutest little giggle
I love this. This is so funny and entertaining. More people should know about this! Thank you for posting this.
Thank you for the feedback! Feel free to share so it reaches more people. You can click on my profile to check my other video if you missed it.
I love the looks on the guests faces.
This is so funny, I was in absolute stitches in the middle of the night! Wow!
I've been hoping someone would do a video on this subject for a long time! Thanks so much! (I'm sure it must have taken many, many hours to compile.)
Dorthy really did seem to know what a lot of people were doing!

@@chuckschillingvideosArlene and Bennett were neighbors in Mount Kisco, NY.
What's with the helicopter!? LOL
Another excellent compilation video, Teddy Todorova!
Thanks for making it, & for posting it!
👍🏼😁

that "WHAT!?" from Cerf always makes me lmao.

I have a feeling Dorothy was physic.
She was a gossip columnist silly.
Loved her. 🌿 peace lovely Lady 🌹
Dorothy heard celebrity stories from all over I am sure.
This is the investigative reporter in Dorothy 💯⚔️🇺🇸
Great compilation.
Edgar Buchanan was the dentist I thought she may have been targeting.
Love it!
Who waltzed at the march of dimes with Kilgallen?
Dorothy was an amazing woman. She knew everyone.
I love these clips butI get sad because I know Dorothy is soon to die.
I wonder who Dorothy refers to about the presidential suite
Remember she and her family stayed at the White House during the days of JFK
The reply of E. G. Marshall was hilarious! 😂😂😂
She asks those questions only because so very often, there's a connection between a panel member (yes, often enough Dorothy) and the mystery guest.

I think the one time Anthony Perkins was a guest during the sixties Dorothy FAILED to ask the address book question!
I laughed and laughed 💖
Edgar Buchanan was also a dentist before becoming an actor!
Who sat on Bennett’s lap?
Yeah, I want to know, too. There were suggestions that it was Ginger Rogers, but it is unknown really.
@@teddytodorova she was related to him so it's possible she had sat on his lap at one time or another.
@@teddytodorova I've heard that as well - they were related by marriage.
Who had a parakeet named Gaylord?
Liberace.

What was with her obsession with an address book dropped out of a helicopter over the Greek Islands?
Well, she was hoping that Tony Perkins would appear, so she was asking this question and if the answer was "Yes", she would have known it was him. Also I guess she liked showing she knows stuff
Have YOU ever studied dentistry?
That's how to butter em up and get the scoop buy him a tie 😉
Dorothy was an Angel on that show. We will probably never know the truth about her untimely death.
Her husband did it.
Mafia is my guess. I wondered why they never say where her husband and children were. It's a mystery that will never be solved.

@@crgrbrtsThis video was suggested and I forgot about my comment. Love your response. Thanks for the laugh 😂
This is So funny! BUT - What's with all the Dentistry questions? That was bizarre.
There was one time where a dentist appeared and she didn’t get it so she used it as a throw away question
My guess is she threw out the oddball questions to throw the mystery guests off and get them to forget their pretend accent and instead answer (at least in part) with their real voices.
She was stuck on that elf from Rudolph.
