  • It's been awhile that I was setting up this video to finally be filmed.
    I work at an establishment that recovers used oil and Filters. I knew a few of the patrons that frequently bring in oil and filters, I asked a few who use Fram Extra Guard if I could get them to write down the information on how many km the filter was used and what type of vehicle.
    It is nice to see I finally got the 4 filters I wanted.
    Let me know if this video was good, I have so many more patrons I can bug to get other numerous oil filters. Thanks for watching.

    I am surprised that they held on for this long but I don't get why some have a metal strip and some don't.

      Thanks Bud, the metal strip was nice but then I to was surprised to see no metal strip. I was also expecting the filters to be in worse shape than they were.

    Funzeez bro! 3000 miles on conven oil is quite enough. 100 hours on a gen over 50% is enough to get dark.ardvark! Don't bark. Lol

    It's still the orange can of death to me. My Jeep had one on it when I got it and I switched to WIX and gained 5 PSI of oil pressure.

    Interesting, but I don't think looking for stuff on the media is the best way to judge a filters performance. I believe going over the filter's construction and how it held up is by far more important. Are the cleats on the media nice and even? Are there any gaps or holes? how well did the glue hold up? Does the bypass valve still operate smoothly? Does it still seal well? How are the endcaps? do they still fit snug on both ends? Are there any visual signs of damage and degradation? I believe these things are more representative of the performance of the oil filter. The filter media is not terribly different from one make to another. Still, was a nice video~

    All look like Fram orange cans (EG) to me. Metal crimp seam or not, as long as still intact, all good. Yeah, metal crimp gives the warm fuzzies. 3614, crazy story. Gong to the dealer to swap out the orange can for MC 😮 Guess they just changed the filter, oil would need to be added too. The orange can, while not my favorite, ok for standard 3-5k(max) mi. interval. Thanks for the effort.

    This is cool! Although doesn't say much about how fram oil filters filter oil. Different engines with different milage will definitely put out different debris. Still good to see they do filter something still! Otherwise there would likely be metal in the inner portion too.
    If you clamp the paper in a vice or squeeze it, it will become a lot more clear (and drain excess oil from filtering element).

      Thanks Looney, yes I believe that most of the patrons here are mostly highway driving. They should still use a synthetic type oil though if they want to let there oil changes go so long.

    Id almost bet that most people go by the oil life monitoring system these days instead of paying close attention to the miles. That could be the reason of the higher mileage on the filters.

    • @crazybillsgarage
      @crazybillsgarage  5 месяцев назад

      So true, most people forget about the lifeblood of the engine, and yes many have fallen for the oil monitoring system to change there oil. Many vehicles die early from these systems. Thanks Maynard.

  • @ranger178
    @ranger178 5 месяцев назад

    that last filter is not that many miles some of the companies are recommending 7500 or 10000 miles on oil changes with synthetic oil which is really crazy. the mileage on highway is way less wear than city driving because you are going 2000 rpm on the highway doing 65 mph and in city you would be doing same 2000 rpm doing 30 mph so the revolutions are less than half what the highway miles are for same miles traveled and you don't have as many stops and starts where most of wear occurs.

    • @crazybillsgarage
      @crazybillsgarage  5 месяцев назад
