Thank you so much for watching! xx
I have been following you for YEARS but never really watched your videos here on RUclips and what was I missing! I started to watch them and I cannot stop anymore. Your videos are absolutely amazing to watch: you give amazing tips in a super entertaining format, I really learn a lot and absolutely enjoy following you and Dan in your adventures! Plus your voice is so nice to listen to and you are so full of joy, it makes every video of you absolutely perfect!
I can't wait for more videos like this one, the travel photography vlogs are among my favorites :)
Aw that is a huge compliment, thank you so much!! I'm really glad you're enjoying watching :D
I love these types of videos. Traveling is when I have the most time for photography. So it’s cool and informative seeing what others use on their travels. I preferred most of the 35mm shots but I could see when the 28mm would be useful.
Thank you! I would love to make more of these as well, just doing photography for the sake of photography 😊 and I agree I feel like even though photography is my full time job, when I travel is the main time I have to do photography just for myself!
I think that for full-body person photography, 35mm works amazing, cuz in addition to having a blur that suits this type of photography (person in landscape), it leaves the body slender and elegant, like a model.
The 28mm, on the other hand, gives more emphasis to the scene than the person posing in it, as it shows more of them (both due to the angle of coverage and the bigger depth of field), and consequently the person's body is very stretched out. and is already beginning to lose its natural proportions. (looks very like smartphone "main camera" photos hahaha)
If you want to show the grandeur and beauty of the scene you are in, the 28mm is the choice. If your style is more focused on photographing the people itself on beauty places, then go for 35mm.
*P.S.: A little trick, you can step back a little to photograph with the 28mm and then do a crop after to get the same good proportions of body results as the 35mm, you will only lose out in blur.
Austria is a beautiful country , I used to travel there so often including hallstatt . glad you eventually got round to sharing your images & vlog with us..
I agree, I kinda wish I had some more time to spend there taking photos!
I absolutely love the music in this video! Really fits so well with the mood as well 😍
Thank you!! I actually have so much fun selecting the music to use for my travel videos 😄
I love these kind of videos. They give me such a good chilled vibe. Your work is outstanding
Thank you so much! I would love to make more of these 😊 just doing photography for the sake of photography!
The 28mm I noticed the photos were a lot moodier and I loved that! Your photography is gorgeous! I went to Canada in September and I lost all my photos! I’m so sad 😭 it’s not lost forever l, but you must know how expensive it is to fix an external hard drive, hard lesson learned for me on backing up. Thank for sharing! I absolutely love your work 💕
Thank you and aww nooo that's so awful to hear, I'm sorry 😭
The 35mm looks so bright and crisp! looks great!
14:45 Omg this shot is very beautiful for the 28mm. That is why I love this focal length. It has a natural field of view. Definitely, the 28mm is better for me than the 35mm.
Yes yes yes!!! Do more videos about this kind of photography!
Yay thank you so much! And I will, I absolutely love making videos like this 💛
Greetings from Austria, i am very glad you enjoyed my home country!
Yesssssss I’ve been waiting for this!!!!
Twitter keeping me in check! 💛
Ah, Hallstatt! What a beautiful place, I remember being there I was lucky to catch a rainbow arching over the lake, so gorgeous, and with this delicate architecture it gives real fairy tale kingdom vibe.
I loved your videos last year following your trips, and this is very welcome! 🔥 love the throwback to Dans cousin’s video, still one of my all time favourites - it’s so pure haha.
Haha thank you!
sorry to be so off topic but does someone know a trick to get back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot my account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Tomas Gibson instablaster :)
@Sean John Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I enjoy all of your videos, but I particularly like your travel blogs - you go to some beautiful places and take stunning photos of them. It doesn't bother me if they're longer because I can always pause and come back later if I need to. They're a true pleasure to watch.
Thank you so much, that makes me really happy to hear 🙏
How do you look so pretty in the photos while traveling all day. I always look like a disheveled poodle 🐩
Great work, great video, great photography. Thanks for sharing this!
Nice to 👀 your beautiful documentation of 🇵🇱 & 🇦🇹. A nice " working " Holiday.
Thank you 😊
Thumbs up for Den launching snowballs... i want more reviews like this!! :D
Thumbs up for Dan throwing the snowballs :D
For travel and general walk around, I use the leica q2. The 28mm summilux with 47 megapixels is great and you can crop into a 35mm fov and still have 30 megapixels. The perfect one-body solution especially since the lens is stabilized for night photography.
in general I agree but remember, even with the excellent cropping ability... you still have the look and depth of the 28mm even when cropped in, it is not a true 35mm in terms of distortion or depth of field.
@@canyonblue737-8 when you crop to 35mm and shoot at F1.7, it's an effective DoF equivalent of 35mm F2.1 which is still nice.
Was just about to hit purchase on the 28 mm rf pancake lens, but I loved the look of the 35mm. Thanks for the great content!
I love this vlog! I have always wanted to go to Austria ever since I was a little girl. I am obsessed with The Sound of Music and I want to do the tour over there. The scenery was amazing! I mainly liked the 28mm over the 35mm because you saw a bit more of the landscape but for some of the portraits I liked the 35mm better.
Thank you so much and I would highly recommend to visit if you can, it really is as beautiful as it looks in pictures 💛 and yeah I felt the same way, 28 was better for landscape shots and 35 I preferred for portrait style shots :D
You should try the Sigma 28mm 1.4 ART, it's a stunning lens, it's currently toppling my current favorite fl and lens, also a Canon 35mm 1.4 ii, never thought this would happen. Thanks for the video
haha noooo that sweater is awesome!! i need the dude version of it 😂😂
Hahaha well I'm glad cos it's not going anywhere any time soon 😂 I can't wait for winter in Australia so I can take it out again! lol
What an incredible place to take photos! Top of my list. It's pretty obvious that you can take extraordinary shots with either system.
I highly recommend to visit if you ever get the chance, Hallstatt is out of this world 💛
I had this problem with our trip to France, Romania + the Netherlands we took last fall. I edited the images quickly because I used them for Christmas presents but hadn't touched the footage until a couple weeks ago when I decided I was going to have a deadline + dedicated time each week to work on it. Now I have 1 of 4 of our videos up on our channel and working on the other ones too! It's really just fun to rewatch the footage + relive the trip.
That's good to hear you're getting around to it! As I said in the video already I was exactly the same, just kept pushing it back until I decided to also dedicate time to just doing it. It ended up being really fun getting to look back on all the videos and photos we took that time flew while I was putting this all together haha
35mm looks so much better i think. love it!
Very nice journey with landscapes and photography
Your sweater and your JP tee rocks! Of course your photos as well!!
Love your photos!
love the jurassic park shirt :D
Thanks for the travel video.
I own and use 28mm and 35mm lenses. I rarely carry both at the same time.
With my Leica M6 and M10 rangefinders, I carry:
90mm f/2
35mm f/1.4
21mm f/1.4
I do not have a 28mm for my Leicas.
With my Contax G1 rangefinder, I carry:
90mm f/2.8
45mm f/2
28mm f/2.8
21mm f/2.8
I do not have a 35mm for my Contax.
I tend to use the 28mm more for travel, scenic, landscape, architecture, and group portraits.
I tend to use the 35mm more for travel, people, group portraits, environmental portraits, street, and general subjects.
Now we need a really good 28mm 1.4 that's not a $7000 Leica or a Nikon DSLR mount.
7artisans 28mm
The pic at 6:54 :O My fave!!!! Awesome vid dude :)
Ahh thank you! haha those ducks had some pretty good timing :D
24mm vs 28? I'm in doubt for wide angle portraits with environment.
Love the photos and videos from this trip! Love your videos, seeing these make me want to go out and shoot more!
Thank you so much!!
Vienna is so beautiful! Haven't seen it in real life but was attracted to it since watching Before Sunrise! Nice Pictures!
Thank you so much 😄
soo....... cuteeee........
Good job guys..worth watching
These types of videos of yours are my favourite ❤️❤️
I can't wait to make more of these 💛
Loving your photography and helpful tips Julia! Can you give me advice which is better buy for wedding photography / portraits, sony a7riii or canon eos mark iv? I'm only concerned about sony having "bad colour science" but I don't know if that is true.
Photos looked awesome and it's always interesting to see another side of your photography. +1 for the Seinfeld reference, your obvs a keeper ;) And that shot with the birds flying up was such a gem
Haha thank you! I was pretty pleased with that duck photo, they had the right timing to fly past just as I was starting to shoot!
love the way you pronounce “Wachau” ... and great images again. 😎😎😎
Haha I really don't know how to pronounce it 😅
Wow this video looks so great, totally diferent than the previous episodes. Great job Juls!
Thank you!
... Those Italian eyes 👀 😍
Very good video! May I know your vlogging set up? A7iii + 28mm + gorilla pod? No gimball? I mean if one was to go at it solo. I don’t I’d have the luxury of having an assistant. Any tips? Many thanks in advance! Safe travels.
Currently, 24GM is my most fevorite lens for traveling.
That first location is gorgeous
Thank you!
I’m so glad I found your channel... Gdansk is one of my fav cities in Poland :-)
Thank you and agreed, Gdansk and Poznan are 2 of my favourite cities in Poland :D
@@juliatrotti btw, your channel is pretty cool, love your episodes!
I love your photos! What is your favorite camera bag?
Worthy video.. For one reason 🤗
You know what it is?
I love your photos !!
Hi Julia! I was very happy to see you in Austria and i am glad too, that you enjoyed it in Hallstatt. This very special place is about one hour from Linz - my hometown in Upper-Austria. Love your videos again and again! ;-) Bye WOLF
Thank you and yes I loved it so much!!
I was in Austria in summer last year, I think I still have around 1500 fotos still in raw!...I took around 3000 ....just an incredible fascinating country.
I love your videos!!
Glad to see you bran h away from the 35! 😂😂👍🏾
I also always get told off for shooting landscapes at 1.4 hahaha but I do it anyways. I LOVE your jumper, where did you get it? Love your videos
Nice video Julia. I am from Austria🇦🇹 and this year I was the first time in Hallstatt . I like your videos and learn from them for my YT Channel . Have a nice weekend, regards, Armin
Beautiful and instructive even a year later!
Thank you :)
Awesome sights!!!
Great photos , what make them more beautiful is U there 😍
Hi Julia I loved the mountain shots they were beautiful. I would really appreciate a general travel photography tips video. I'm going to Thailand on my honeymoon and would really love some advice on what to take (I need to pack as light as possible) and just some hints and tips.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it! And that sounds like a fun idea. If it wasn't for filming videos, when I travel I would normally just bring one camera body and one or 2 prime lenses (you could also obviously just bring one zoom!). I usually lean towards bringing a 35mm: ruclips.net/video/MzaWAruOQOs/видео.html&t and sometimes I would bring a 28 instead: ruclips.net/video/M-3M5I23-lw/видео.html&t I guess depending on where I'm going! In my Thailand travel vlog I used the 28mm like 90% of the time, whereas here in Austria I kept using the 35 as we were shooting a lot more portraits. I hope that helps! I'll see if I can make a video about some tips too 😊
When your doing events and other types of photography for clients people don't realize how much time you have to invest into running a photography business. I got involved in event photography for a number of years some while I was still working and a few years while I was retired, once my wife retired I went back to shooting for my self and a few events for family members.
love this travel vlog! always in for more, and also interested in your travel photography tips besides lens choice ;)
Thank you! And yeah I would love to do more where I focus on the actual photography tips as well, in my Thailand vlog I did a lot of that actually if you haven't seen it yet :)
@@juliatrotti how did I miss that? heading over now...! 🏃😁
Love the Jurassic Park shirt!
the landscapes shots would look so much better shooting at f8 or higher to get more in focus. you were shooting at 1/1000+ for so many of these
Love the photos and the vlog but just wanted to let you know your video color grading was on point!
Amazing I love your work 😉
Hey..
Particularly 35 mm or 50 mm lenses gives better results or they give the same results if we click photos on any other lens like. . Lets take 28-70mm lens and adjusting it to 35 or 50 mm respectively..
Cz you have particularly different lens for different purposes..
Julia that is very cool video, one question, why not include a more visible background?? I know you love the max F stop, but maybe an F4 could be better just to show where you are and not just a blury out of focus background with nothing to see, yes you are very pretty but imagen, pretty face + great content + great background!!!! you have 2 out 3.... so just add the missing one.
Thanks for the content !
What do you think is better, a 24-70 mm lense or a 35 mm lense for exploring a city?
Warpig TheKiller For me, in those settings / scenes, 24-70 by far.
For me personally, I prefer prime lenses for all my work so it's natural for me to use primes while I'm travelling! I like the 35 the most because I do a lot of portrait style shots, I even made a whole video about it here: ruclips.net/video/MzaWAruOQOs/видео.html&t and then when I don't do as many portrait style shots like in my Thailand vlog, I end up using the 28mm more. I do think zooms are probably easier and more convenient to travel with though! It's all just down to what you find more comfortable with and what you are willing to bring with you while you go out exploring 😊
If you had a more reliable 24, do you think you would use it more for travel photography?
Lol I was just thinking about going for 28mm or 35mm for a prime travel lens. Awesome timing. Trying the Samyang 35mm f2.8 right now for my a7iii and am pretty impressed with the price and performance so far. Might try the Sony 28mm F2 as well and see which one I like better. Great video!
Yeah I really like both these focal lengths for travel! I think the 35 wins ever so slightly for me as I prefer to take portrait style shots while travelling more often than I do just landscapes. But the 28 is great for landscapes! I just did a video using the Tamron 35mm f1.8 which is a great little lens, I would personally take that with me travelling - if you're trying out some different lenses before you buy one, I would recommend to give this one a go too :)
Wow so cool and lovely 😍
Superb photoshoot dear u r amazing👍👍👍👍
Definitely like the 28 for the wider landscape shots, but I think the 35 was better in front of the logs. Loved the video though! Can you drop the names of those locations in a comment? I know you mentioned them in the video, but idk how to spell them 😅 I’m planning a trip to Austria soon and I REALLY want to shoot in those locations
Wien(Vienna), Hallstatt, Dachstein.
Marko Balenovic thank you!
Thank you! And Wachau was the wine region we went to as well 😊 I'll have my 2nd part to this vlog up next week, I'll write the locations down in the video for that!
let's just say, photographer living in a another country, the couple who going marry in another country. after the wedding is done, is photographer stay there for a while to give the photos to the customer to select? Or photographer selecting the photos? how you gonna print the album and how you gonna deliver the wedding album to the customer? can you tells us how the destination wedding procedure works A to Z?
Thanks this is just what I needed to see to get an idea of what the field of view is for these lenses. I am about to be back into photography, and I'm wanting to do it with primes, at least at first (I know that is backwards but I have my reasons, size weight obviousness). I can afford to get a fairly decent full frame camera, but I have to be frugal on lenses at first, and don't want to feel like I am carrying around a Mortar Plate. So, I'm thinking 35mm is right for me for my first wider angle almost normal view lens. I will revisit other options like the more dramatic landscape 28 and more object focussed 50mm on birthdays and Xmas. I also want to get a longer prime as well, with the Camera and I am toying with either 85 or 105. Later I will be getting the 300 but that is a luxury I can wait for. Other variables are Fstop. I think I can do well with 1.8's but I might spring for brighter if I see a deal, for the night and astronomy shots. And of course it's nice to have that creamy bokeh on the medium portrait tele's But I think 1.8 is good enough for most purposes. Especially since I am a hobbiest and not a pro. Although at this point in my life, I would love to change that. Thanks again, this really gave me an idea (and reminded me) what I used to know years ago when I was more active in the hobby with film cameras. Databyter
Happy to hear I could help!
Love it
Wooow 😮🔥❤️
Awesome!
Great photos! The FoV of 28mm and 35mm are really close. Anyway, yes I can hear the focus motor is grinding when you were on the lake. That is the scene when I think you were misplug the mic jack.
Thank you! And yeah they are pretty similar but I still felt like the 28 landscape shots were stronger and then I tended to prefer my 35 for more portrait style shots :)
Great video, Julia. Too bad you didn’t have sunglasses, especially a blue/gray gradient for the snow.
By the bye, the Canon EOS R5 was announced today. Do you think you’ll get one come July? Looks to be an amazing camera.
Thank you and yes!! I would love to replace one (or both, we'll see) of my 5d4 :D
Nice one 🍊😍🧡
I long for the day when I hear this sentences.
Hey everyone! Here's a free preset.
Beautiful! I love this video. Julia, did you see the Canon R5 official announcement? Dual cards and IBIS confirmed with new sensor. More dynamic range :) I think that camera with the RF 15-35 will be my favorite travel kit!
Thank you and yessss!! I think it's time to replace my dinosaurs :)
Hello, So I also come from Poland but from Krakow, I live in Usa, my name is Gosia too, I was in Warsow and Gdansk too I liked Gdansk. From Eu countries I recommend also Sweden - it's very beautiful there, nature is cleaner and the air. My sister lives in Austria too - I was there 2 times. I have family in Australia but there I wasn't yet in this life. I might be in previous ones lol
Ahh that’s so cool! I would love to visit Sweden one day and you should really come to Australia if you ever get the chance :D
@@juliatrotti yes I hope I will come there too :)
Why do you use such a large aperture for landscape photography?
Kathleen Jones in her Scotland video she said she prefers the light when shooting wide open and some other reasons too~ I’d check it out. ☺️
@@thatissodawn Some of the scenes she was shooting were already bright with snow, and she had a foreground model so the depth of field would be too narrow, that is why I am asking her so I can get her reasoning behind why she chose those settings.
Kathleen Jones I would assume mainly because although there are mountains in the background during the photo shoot, it was stil the subject she wanted to separate from them. She is a mainly portrait photographer after all 😅
It puts emphasis on the subject and avoids distractions, actually pretty brilliant.
Does every landscape need to be f11 ++? Images have a softer and airy look when shot open some prefer that there is no right or wrong In art
hi you :) i am austrian and i've really enjoyed your video..may i ask where you got your camera "band" from, the flowery one?
Thank you! Dan found it for me on ebay, unfortunately mine is falling apart at the moment and we wanted to get a replacement but we can't find it anymore 😭
Some lovely footage and photos, Julia. I can't pinpoint your accent. What part of Australia are you from? It's not the "usual" Aussie accent I'm used to hearing here in the States.
Anyway, thanks for sharing this. Lovely stuff, and you look absolutely beautiful.
Thank you! I'm from Sydney was born here and lived here my whole life :)
@@juliatrotti How's the weather there year round? in my youth I really thought seriously about moving to Australia---one of those roads not traveled---in time you'll find out what i mean.
I honestly thought you made more than enough money w/ your presets/YT to balance your work life. Obviously don't know your situation but glad you're doing this!
For me it's more so that I've run my photography business for almost my entire adult life, so I wouldn't want to just abandon that. The internet can be fleeting, you never know what's going to happen. Compared to my business where I am more in control of stability and things like that :) I have always wanted to have a RUclips channel though, I love making videos, sharing my thought process behind photography, trying to help others when I can, etc, so I'm not going anywhere regardless of doing photography full time outside this!
How you edit your all photo in this video please tutorial
EVERYONE SHOULD BE FAMILIAR ALREADY WITH THE 28MM. 28MM IS THE FOCAL LENGTH OF MOST SMART PHONE, THE MAIN CAMERA OF A SMARTPHONE BTW.
Beautiful pics, did you use an ND filter outside?
Thank you! Yes kind of, I have an ND filter on my 28mm that I use for filming, but I usually take it off to take photos :)
cool NiCe Video :) !!!!
How foolish of me to think I couldn't possibly love you and your work more than I already do. @5:53 Just stunning! 💙 :'
Just wondering why are you shooting landscapes with aperture F 2.2 ?
I answered this in detail in the top comment of this video :)
What was that town by the lake? So beautiful!
I think it's Hallstatt. I also recommend Zell am See, Grossglockner, Salzburg and Hohenwerfen for the visitors.
Yep it's Hallstatt, I think it's a must go if you're in Austria - ridiculously beautiful!
