    So I put on a vertical tee on my 4" bottom drain pipe so that I have a body of water outside the pond but still has it at the pond level for this purpose. I'm trying to look for a nice industrial float valve for use, maybe the type they use on a farm trough.

      The black stuff was called armaflex, can't remember where I got it from. Wasn't cheap. But seems really good. The silver backed stuff was some old thermal bathroom underlay, I had loads of it spare when I had the bathroom done. Just taped it to the larger pipework. Probably not as efficient

    Put a water meter on the top up

  • @UpNorthKoiPond
    @UpNorthKoiPond 2 года назад +1

    Hi Danny. I'm fitting an auto top up system to mine soon, but at what height do you set the float to shut off at, resting water level height when all pumps are off, or working level water height? I thought about this as when the pump kicks in and draws water, the water level in the filters etc drop slightly, which would cause the ball valve to open if it was set to resting water level height, this then would become an issue if when the pump was turned off, the level would rise above the initial set water level and spill down the overflow. Hope the question makes sense

    • @dannycurrie1
      @dannycurrie1  2 года назад +1

      Needs to be set at your running level really or it will start filling, leaving you overfilled when you turn your pumps on. My overflow is set a bit higher than I used to have it so now when the pumps are off it still doesn't overflow. My overflow isn't really used now. It's kind of just a back up if we get any really heavy rain or anything. The auto top-up has worked brilliantly so far, unsure what will happen when it gets down to freezing temps but will cross that bridge when we get there 🤞

    Hi if you had used flexible pipe between the skimmer and the top up tub. You could have lowered the top up tub to suit the level. Why could you not have set the top up auto float through the wall of your pond under your copings.

    • @dannycurrie1
      @dannycurrie1  2 года назад +1

      I could have still lowered to tub but couldn't be bothered to move the shelf. Was easier to cut a new hole. It's above water level so don't make a difference. I could have had it in the pond. It would have worked but I don't want it in there, just 1 more thing for the fish to injure themselves on and easy to hide this way once I screen the back off
