- With the Resident Evil 4 remake coming out soon, here's a continued look at the Japanese guidebook for RE4, the Biohazard 4 Kaitai Shinsho from Capcom and Famitsu. This time I've translated the monster chapter taking a look at lore, attacks, and other interesting information.

Oh the Iron Maiden... reminds me of a Street Fighter EX character called GARUDA.
Seeing you actually allow a Regenerador to attack you made my butt pucker a bit. Bravo.
It must take some real patience to actually get every attack to happen. Ive completed RE4 many times and still had no idea El Gigante could wield a tree and go bowling with a boulder.
Hahaha well I'm pretty desensitized to all RE4 enemies after making this video. It really does take a long time to bait a certain attack and record it in a way it's visible on screen.
I didn't know about the one where El Gigantes pulls you into the blast furnace, that happened by accident!

Dude i remember when Krauser grabbed me from behind while i was walking down to the lower layers of the arena you fight him in.
It was like my third playthrough and i legit screamed it caught me off guard! So memorable

As for the ganado plagas, the type that sprout a monster after decapitation. I hated those that could literally decapitate you if you got close enough.
In the PS2 days without auto aim, those were some of the hardest parts, but I enjoyed the game enough to push on through.

You're not alone there, other people have commented specifically that they've never seen the boulder throw either, so maybe it's one of the rarer moves?
I didn't know you could get pulled into the smelter, so that was a jaw dropping moment for me haha

The garador, or what I call, blind wolverine... man, that was one of the hardest monsters. That's why I ,loved taking Krauser and killing it with his mutant arm, or taking wesker, and doing the PAUL PHOENIX PUNCH after stunning it I think! I hated that monster!

You're right, I worded that poorly. The book's wording is "Even if she's grabbed she will automatically break free directly after."

Haha man I wasn't gonna miss a launch like this, I think I started working on these vids 5 or 6 months ago. Shame I couldn't do more chapters. But now my RUclips feed is nothing but RE4 remake so I'll get back to the classics for a bit. Maybe I'll translate a gaming mag, but I'm not sure about the legality of that

I think the legality should be fine as long as if you read from the ones already uploaded to the internet archive! I would love to one day see you do some Playstation 1 magazines. ImportGamingFTW uploads old VHS tape magazines to his second channel and it is absolutely fascinating to see the games that don't even have Wikipedia/mobygame articles, they are that freaking rare.
As much as I say this though, you should probably get a start on the SH2 guide book ready for the remake hah
@@novelezra haha well I was thinking about translating the RE4 remake issue of Famitsu, but I just got it and I don't know if there's anything interesting in it yet.
I would love to do old magazines some time though. There's actually a video I've been wanting to make looking at an old article from GamePro and they had a very early build of RE1, and it had a chainsaw and all this other stuff. That'd be cool to look into that build of RE1.

So far, before getting to Krauser... is it me, or are some of the enemies reminding me of enemies in Fallout games? such as the U3, reminds me of the Centaurs.
This is why the remake will never be better than the original. Back when it was released developers actually put effort in and were creative. Now they only care about making the games "look good"

16:23 the toggling between infared and black and white on the scope, what is that? In all of my time playing the game throughout the various ports I've played, I've never seen that. I tried finding some info about it online, but I cant find any other source that talks about it.
If I remember correctly it's only in the GameCube version and you press X while using the IR scope

Does Gatling man JJ resist tmp damage? when doing body shots, it usually took around 90 bullets (1.8 power each, ~160 total) while Black tail only took 26 (4.5 each, 117 total)
also, how do you convert hp / damage value compared to what is shown in-game?
a cool thing to add also : Mine thrower explosion seems to have around 17 power , the cool thing is that it seems to have a multiplier against some enemies like Verdugo.
Yes he does resist the tmp! Damage is reduced to 0.21 times. And for how damage is calculated I'm gonna put all that info in the weapon chapter video I'll make in the future.

@@raccooncitycinema I was mistaken about the dart damage, I tested (with punisher) and MT dart didnt do 0.9 damage ,
so it seems mines do +90% damage against Verdugo (did a video for it)

About you being able to elbow chainsaw sisters to death, does that work in mercs? I think they still try to kill you from behind with the chainsaw.
I haven't tried it but I wouldn't think so. I have a feeling it has something to do with being in close proximity to Ashley
Had a terrifying moment my first time playing Mercenaries where I thought I killed one of the sisters and put my attention on the other. I quick turned cuz I heard a louder chainsaw and a scream and I avoided the attack from a sister behind me thanks to the i-frames on the quick turn. I remember endlessly running til the time ran out due to my fear of how many chainsaw sisters were around.

Short answer, yes! For RE4 I want to do the weapon and character chapters, and maybe the short novelizations. My next 2 videos will be RE2 and RE0 part 2 because many people have been waiting. I've got a ton of other books too
These videos take forever because I do everything from writing, recording, to editing, and I've got young kids plus some major changes at work so I get about 1 hour of free time a day... But I'm always chipping away at it

I swear the ganado/zealot/militant type plaga can appear at maximun of 3 on screen on higher difficulties or high ranking on normal mode (adaptive difficulty)
There are mistakes in the book, so it could be! I don't remember seeing it, but I'll keep an eye out
@@raccooncitycinema the book seem to be based on the ps2 version then is maybe true cause the ps2 version lower the enemies spawn rate and respawn in mercenaries

This book is for the GameCube and PS2 version so I would assume so. I didn't test it so I can't say for sure.

7:36 I'm pretty sure you're showing the wrong one, the spider-looking one can bite and spit (maybe the guide named them improperly instead)
Yeah I'm showing the type C spider one because type b can't spit. The weird thing is that it says type b can spit acid in the monster description, but on the next page or so lists all attacks and clearly shows type b can only bite, and type C can do both.
I even checked the Resident Evil Archives 2 book and it too made the same mistake, saying type B can bite and spit!

For the Krauser fight, does the guide say nothing about knife being more effective than any other weapon? (Or magnum doing less damage) or did we just breathe all rumors?
I only remember it saying use the knife to defeat him in 10 seconds, but on a separate page it says the knife does 400 damage to Krauser! So it's not just a rumor 😄

16:20.... Wait what the fuck? What? Like... What? This is by far the game I have played the most... And I have never, ever, even remotely, heard of this. Grayscale on the Infrared Scope on Gamecube... I need to check this out right now.
So I have tried it on the GameCube, and I couldn't manage to get this grayscale vision... There's got to be more to it. Maybe the Japanese release only?

That's actually not true about the Regenerator being the only one to do the overhead swing. The Iron Maiden can also do that attack as well.

@@raccooncitycinema You're welcome mate. I think it would be intentional as the Iron Maiden is just a regenerator but with more mutations so it would make sense that it keeps the same attacks and movements.
I thought Krauser was infected by a virus in Darkside Chronicles. If he had a parasite then Saddler could've controlled him and that wouldn't have made sense in the story.
He was just injured in Darkside Chronicles. Apparently Krauser got a "master plaga" or something, so that's probably why he couldn't be controlled. I only really included what was in the book here, but that'd be interesting to explore more
@@raccooncitycinema No, he got infected by that virus, it hit him in the arm that mutates. If he had access to a master plagas, then why didn't just steal it instead of going after the sample? What was the difference?
Where would he even have gotten it from? Saddler was clear he didn't trust Krauser, so why would he give him that power? If he wanted Krauser to have the power to kill Leon, why give him a plaga that he couldn't control. It doesn't make sense. If they changed it for the remake then it's a bad change.

A new RE4 is coming out in a few days, and people are still out here making brand new content for the original. I absolutely love it, and I really think this game will keep on trucking long after the remake.

I don't know if it's only GameCube, I didn't try it on Wii or PS2, but I couldn't activate it in the Switch version. Maybe I just missed it? 🤔

@@DecadesApartProductionsoh sorry I misunderstood or didn't explain it well in the video. The thermal scope is in all versions of the game, but if you press X while using it on the GameCube it switches color from thermal image to like this gray night vision-y color. I think that gray vision mode isn't in the HD version

I think it's wrong to say that Saddler is the "Founder" of Los Illuminados, as the plaga has been around for centuries way before Saddler was even born. I know it's just semantics but the more appropriate title would be that he is the current "leader" of Las Plagas as the pagan religion existed way before Saddler even knew about it. One could even say that he is just a prophet of the faith.
This is really interesting and a good point. I double checked the book and they say he's the "founder."
They probably mean founder of the revived form Los Iluminados as mentioned here in the game memo:
"As expected it took a little time, but we were able to rejuvenate the once sealed Las Plagas. With this success I was one step closer to the revival of the Los Illuminados."
And the wiki says the true origins lie with Osmund Saddler in the 1990s.
BUT I just checked the Famitsu issue 1790 with the RE4 Remake special, and they DO refer to Osmund Saddler as the current leader of the Los Iluminados and not the founder!
I'm not finished the remake yet, and sorry if this is a minor spoiler, if so stop reading, but it looks like there are a long line of Saddlers preaching their crazy, so looks like the remake could be fleshing that out more or retconning him as the founder
@@raccooncitycinema Don't stress friend I've already finished the game. I have to admit I do prefer the original RE4. However whilst they do give a more im depth backstory of Saddler and the Las Plagas there still is alot of mystery surrounding him, the plaga, the cult etc. In terms of being the "founder" of the revived version that makes sense however the unadulterated original founder will forever remain a mystery. IMO I would say he is a prophet for the plaga as let's not forget all we know about Saddler is that he is a bio-weapons chief so he would understand biology and how organisms work far better than the rest of the characters in the Resident Evil universe. How he got into power, found out about the plaga, managed to relocate and move to Spain despite him not being Spanish or speaking the language and him using the plaga to his advantage is a complete mystery. When the other enemies in the game speak about Saddler they refer to him as "God" and Saddler himself speaks about the plaga and himself in the third person meaning that he either thinks he is God or most likely that he maybe worked out something with the now revived plaga and is the host/prophet for the "True God Plaga" which would make more sense than the former. The catch would be that Saddler works for the Plaga and in return the plaga grants him the ability of being the strongest of all the plagas and the "leader" of the faith despite the fact that the plaga is the true "founder" or "leader".

@@raccooncitycinema You're too kind mate 🥰. I will try my best to find out any more information I can about Saddlers origins (If there is any) otherwise I will have to come up with my own conclusions. Either way I will let you know my findings.
The gatling man's name is Chef Rodriguez
I can see him being a chef. What's the official source for that name? I only included "J.J." and his Japanese name from the book
@@raccooncitycinema I just made it up since I think the fans made up the name doctor salvador. What doctor uses a chainsaw? I don't think that name appears in the game anywhere.
@@aballofgrime7273 Dr. Salvador is in RE4 actually. It's his name on the bottle cap, so it's more than just a fan name
