I’ve seen this advertised and think it’s a great idea to help reduce public anxiety about drones overhead. It also helps save the drones but think this really provides peace of mind and can get us back to a place where the first reaction to seeing a drone is not fear and loathing.
Nice test Billy... It hit too hard for me... The parachute needs to be a bit larger for a softer landing. On asphalt or cement the phantom would have been damaged.. IMO 9:23... You would think for $300 USD they would attach those pieces to the main unit with lanyards so they wouldn't get lost.
I don't see any way that the launcher could be attached and not interfere with the parachute cables when deploying. I'm sure they considered that when engineering it, but entanglement is just too risky. Maybe a spring-loaded hinged cover, but that would almost certainly strike destroy the propellers.

😳 Yeah, 300 is a deal breaker 🤔 Those Electronics aren't that expensive these days 😏 I can see people building this themselves with a 3D printer 🤓 And be that it might be dumb system which is triggered manually

Not for $300...Plus the force of the impact was decreased by the ground itself. It looks like the springs are what ejects the cap allowing for the chute to depoy, by direction of the accelerometer and gyroscope. I can't imagine those components are that big. So why not increase the chute size and lower the profile of this thing? Also, why use that ridiculous strap tensioner? I'd say that is the weakest point. If it fails for whatever reason during flight, it doesn't matter if the chute deploys if it's not attached to the drone. BOA lacing system or silicon style ratchet straps would be more secure.
They should have all the pieces connected together when the parachute deploys so u don’t have to be looking every where,bad designing But on your part billy great video.

Still came down a little quick with chute deployed. This is great for a system failure up high but I see most failures do to a tree,power line,or building. I see my luck it falling 30'to it's death,hitting the ground,I cry then the shoot pops out. Sad thing is I see them pushing all of us commercial pilots to have to run this. Good write up👍
@@billykyle I am not so sure that a bigger nylon chute would be much more in weight. Maybe a few grams. But if you are worried about losing a 1500 dollar drone then I would be willing to sacrifice a minute or two of flight time to save my investment. The way it is now it looks like the drone will still get damaged albeit it wont be totaled.
This seems like a great idea and could help the public image of drones. Perhaps a more integrated version included at design stage could prove very successful. How does attaching one of these impact on the warranty and/or any insurance? It is there to help but could the drone manufacturer argue it interfered? Great video! Just curious if the device being on top interferes with the GPS in any way. Would love to see the drone put through normal flight paces and distances wearing the rig.
Its not just the parachute, its the whole autonomous system with sensors. Also the parachute has to be pyrotecnique parachute otherwise it would not work. Can not make that for $50 unfortunately
The next test you should do with the parachute. Is fly your drone very quickly in sport mode up down left right as fast as it can go etc.... And see what happens with the parachute!! In another words see if the parachute deploys by an accident and how good it stays on the drone.. test its limits and capabilities. The only other problem I can see is the top comes off of the parachute! it could end up someplace where you never will find it then you'll have to buy a whole new parachute system unless they just sell the cover?
Super interesting product, but I can't help but think there has to be a better method to attach it than strings and cranking down the tension to get it tight. Maybe a velcro strap or something?
Nice. I like the parachute. The one major flaw I see is that if you can not retrieve the lid of the device then you are unable to reuse the parachute. Could they have somehow made a line attachment to where the lid stays attached to the device. Cool video though.

I would not attach that thing to my drone, it destroys much of the drones original aerodynamical function and i think the parachute should be bigger, but a great product for beginners
My parazero failed me when my phantom 4 pro fell from the sky I got so pissed so I threw it in the bush at the park when I went away and finally decided to get it it wasn’t there anymore 🤦♂️
Hi can you tell me if there could be a reduction of satellite signal due to the location of the parachute mounted on the top of the phantom? When I put my hand on the phantom there is a decrease of the signal gps ... thank you for your great videos... Marc
Just so you know, I am one of your biggest fans :-) I wouldn't use this on my PH4 Obsidian or Mavic 2 Pro if it was free Billy, especially for $300... It's not for $2.000 quads whatsoever, its for $200 toys at best! My Obsidian would be totally destroyed if it hit concrete that hard, gimbal and camera at $900 for sure would be toast, legs smashes, etc..I thinks it's way overpriced and ineffective!
I crashed mine and DJI replaced it a phantom 4 pro v.20..but I did buy the care package.. it was my 2 fix with them and they charged 99 bucks..said it was my fault..I had to agree with them it was..lol
But it won't help you over water.. That should be the next step and they have the technology!!! They have water-resistant phones I can go underwater for three 3 one more for 30 minutes.. Now how about doing that for your drone but also making it so it floats, and has a beacon or sound or something.... You still might lose it but at least you have a Fighting Chance.. So if you lose your drone over the water where a lot of people making mistake because of the wind, and it's usually very close to making it back but just doesn't quite make it and falls in the water. You then can meet me see it, it will float to shore, something like that etc.... they already have a water proof drone I forget the name of it it's red it looks like the phantom 4 and you drop it right in the water and you can use your camera to navigate and see underwater.. WHY CAN'T DJI DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS!!!

You have to factor in the weight and speed when determining how a chute like this works.
