      sirhilsam it was scary but at same time I recall him saying it’s a low altitude chute being its weight The deployment of the chute was flawless in my opinion. It was scary though I thought for sure it malfunctioned. But low altitude with the weight of the p4 and the chute. Again I’d say it was a flawless deployment 👌

      Although then it could get stuck on the hinge... hmmm No matter how I think of it I think ur right.
      The next logical thing then would to just make the fuckin thing cheaper. $250 that's nuts. You're basicalyl spending $250 to save something worth $800 one time. IDK man I just don't know.
      If yours is the pro 2000$ version then sure I guess it's worth it. But a phantom should not be worth 2000$ anyway.

    Never a fan of these from the minute i seen them, imo the chute is too small and the price is too high. They could have made the canopy larger for a slower descent. That drone got off light landing in an area with pretty tall grass that helped cushion the impact, had that been regular pavement it would have taken quite a bit of damage.

    1) Won't help if you fly over water
    2) Needs a high altitude to increase the chances of a successful deployment
    3) Having no spare case components as standard in the box and having to order new parts when activated
    4) Having a electronic component on the satalite receivers
    5) Costs
    It needs a MKII version that can deploy at lower altitudes without losing parts each time!

    • @gerv55
      @gerv55 5 лет назад +2

      No reason why dji or other manufacturers can't build a drone with one. Would be more peace of mind when flying that if your drone does decide it wants to imitate a Brick that it's going to descend slower and hopefully not cause any damage or injuries, as well as minimising the damage the drone takes as well. These aftermarket solutions are just too small and don't slow the drone enough.
      There's one company that does a "mars" parachute that can have 2 or so chutes attached, but the chute is seperate from the triggering device which can be manually activated or activated by a module on the drone.

    • @gerv55
      @gerv55 5 лет назад +3

      @577AllWell A crash due to power failure is rare but a crash due to Birds spotting a Drone and taking it on is more common. A bird knocked my parrot anafi out of the air a couple of months back when i was flying over a nature area, i've also had instances where seagulls spotted it and began circling and coming very close to it. Obviously this setup is too big for an anafi but i also have a phantom 3 pro which this would work for.
      If anything it's just a bit of reassurance that if something does go tits up and the chute deploys it's not going to do much if any damage when it lands, to people, property or the drone. But the chute for this imo is far too small and their demos of it on their channel show the drone landing pretty hard when it's used.
      I really don't know why they didn't go with a larger canopy, it's not as if the drone has some vast weight that the chute has to support, yes the overall package would have to be a bit bigger but if that's the difference between the drone hitting the ground with a smack or a soft landing it's worthwhile.

    May be they should tether the plastic cover and the tray on a separate string so they don’t get lost. Good thing you went up 350 feet any less and splat!!! No more drone! I’m not saying they should go back to the drawing board but there are improvements to be made. Great review as always. 🤙

    Impressive setup! Loved that you actually had 3 drones in the air at the same time to try and capture the footage. Hats off to your daughter as well for helping out on that flight. Poor light Phantom! That was a risky move testing those parachutes....still, a little to close for comfort for me. Those chutes should have deployed sooner in my opinion...anyone on the ground would not have had much time to get out of the way. Still work to be done here in my opinion but a step in the right direction.

    • @TravisSchoening
      @TravisSchoening 5 лет назад +4

      My personal opinion is, their goal isn't so much for the hobbyist to get his to protect their drones, this is more geared towards commercial pilots looking for ways to prove they are flying safely and protecting people, not the drone (if they wanted to fly over people, if that ends up being allowed or if they have a waiver, etc) so they justify that price point and make no mistake, commercial pilots would pay for it. Whether or not that's both correct and if it is, if it's the best business plan, who knows... just my take on it.

    Still deciding on which one to use, the battery checked out fine on the ground but during flight the battery experienced a very slight voltage drop, killing the motors and causing the drone to fall from about 35 feet and landed on wet ground nest to a concrete driveway, but the P4P's leds stayed lit until it hit the ground, weird. Lucky that grass is so soft, because every video I have seen with this parachute the landing gear has broken, because the parachute is too small and the P4P comes in too hard and fast. Wonder if they make one for a Typhoon H? So I've contacted them and we'll see. And I'm with you. That took a little long for my nerves. Thanks for risking such a drone and sharing the results.

      Think they only "officially" make versions for P4 and Mavic Pro series but it's a self contained unit which arms automatically above 15ft and deploys automatically when dropping so if your handy I'm sure you could mount it on whatever you wanted 👍

      I was thinking the same thing but I'd really like to see it open a little sooner. I emailed and the page said "we reply as fast as our chutes open" which meant not really fast. I'll see what they say, if I get a reply. Again thanks. That was a heck of a risk you took.👍👍

    I think it deployed that late is because they want to avoid that the drone is blown away by the wind. Awesome Video

    nice review. i think you need re-pack the shute official in the shop. are you sure you did it right? also i think they mentioned after 5 re-packs, shute should be replaced etc.
    edit: you can't used this on another drone (officially), since
    a) it's not build for it
    b) regulations asking drone to have independent shut down system ( this is what that corner things are for, they stop propellers when it's deployed with 90 degrees turn) for the propellers, so strings don't get in them and you don't hurt someone with them while falling. this works just on phantom, since all dimensions are made for it (this is why you need to place it correctly), not any other with different shape and dimensions, propeller positions etc.

    Dustin another great review 👍🏼
    But with hand in heart there’s no way I would trust that on my Mavic!!
    Deploys to late, plus as you said you need at least 2 extra inserts plus the closing lid in the box.
    Also I can see over time the retaining clips will find its way lose and I’m sure as many of our tech’ it just might deploy during mid flight over a glitch.
    Once again great review buddy👍🏼’
    But something I won’t be carrying around with me and my Mavic

    The system seems like it works great it just needs a better parachute that will inflate quicker.

  • @rcnut812
    @rcnut812 5 лет назад +1

    This parachute device is an absolute novelty at best and much closer to a complete waste of money. I have many expensive drones and airplanes and I wouldn’t buy this parachute device for $19.95 You make some pretty decent videos about UAV’s and devices that interest me though and thank you for that.

    Hi, this should be STANDARDISED for every drone and country around the globe,reasons? it would A make the publics perceptions of drones much better (here in the UK and one of the main reasons I sold my mavic 2 after just three months) is the confrontation of a lot of people moaning at you flying and the dangers of it dropping out of the sky! Great to see this happening Dustin. Cheers

      Not a single person has been killed by recreational drone use, but golf on the other hand 🤷‍♂️, wheres the regulation on golfers? Just silly politics.

    • @FancyaBevMate
      @FancyaBevMate 5 лет назад

      @@Hughjanus720 your forgetting golf is played on a course drones don't have courses not to mention a golf ball whilst could kill you from a great height isn't nowhere near the size of a drone (most). Every drone manufacturer should develop a parachute system built into the drone as a compulsory measure for safety its all about perception of drones. This way no one can argue about them falling out of the sky.

    • @Hughjanus720
      @Hughjanus720 5 лет назад

      @@FancyaBevMate Why don't Airplanes have parachutes then? 🤷‍♂️

    • @FancyaBevMate
      @FancyaBevMate 5 лет назад

      @@Hughjanus720 Two reasons firstly they don't have the reputation of idiots that flew drones and gave them a bad rep that's a fact when was the last time you saw in the news a RC pilot flew his RC into something or restricted area and secondly RC planes don't have cameras (mostly) that enrage most of the public. Its not about how good the cameras are they don't know that all they know is they do. If you fly sensible great like I did but without extra safety fitted and the launch areas being anywhere this will help drone pilots not hinder them. The fact that you are even questioning this leads me to think you obviously don't want safety to improve let alone peoples perceptions on drones.

    A helpful tip for a faster deployment of the parachute. Throw some baby powder on the chute before you repack it

    Sorry, just now seeing this, not been watching any videos for awhile because of health issues. I would have taken one or both drones up since your daughter is such a good pilot, and looked for the two pieces.
    Many the manufacturer could put a beeper on at least the top that starts beeping somehow as soon as it comes off. I would think both of the plastic pieces should land relatively close to each other.

  • @Rocan0
    @Rocan0 5 лет назад +2

    Well, somemone has to take the dimensions, and go 3D print the missing pieces !
    Won't be so ecological though...
