I built a Parachute System for Drones

I worked on UAVs (drones, singlecopters, RC gliders, rockets etc.) in the past and I plan to engineer and test a rocket that uses an electric ducted fan (EDF) as its source of propulsion.
Problem: This technology is expensive and iterative development is needed, so I need a safety system that saves my UAV from crashing into the ground in case of failure.
In this video, I build a fail-safe technology that detects critical flight behavior and deploys a two-stage parachute system that prevents crashing into the ground.

Interested in engineering? Check out my previous video on the development of a beer-pong-playing robot that always makes your team win... Thanks for watching! ✌ruclips.net/video/Xm2Y8mjOVtc/видео.html
I can’t believe this is only your second video. It looks/feels so well produced!
Thanks zach! I try to always do my best☺️
Another great video! I had no idea pressure readers could be so wildly accurate, whoa.
I also love the photo wall keeping track of the achievements. Keep up your craft -- pun intended :)
thanks! Oh yes I will... And maybe the photo wall will be filled one day :-) Stay tuned!
The video quality/subscriber ratio is once again absolutely ridiculous! Brilliant engineering and editing! I have no doubts whatsoever that this channel will go completely supernova with the following videos. I'm proud I can say I joined at 100 subs!
Thank you so much for your ongoing support and your kind words! It means a lot to me that you appreciate the effort I put into making these videos! Be prepared for some intense engineering content :-)
It'd would be neat if there were a way to "invest" in a channel that had very low subscriber counts in hopes of it getting popular. I've managed to do that multiple times now with the most notable being Stuff Made Here (I subbed below 200k, now he's into the millions).
@@MrGatlin98 how would you like to invest in the channel? ;-)
@@niklasbommersbach unfortunately I don't have the means to right now, but hopefully in the future. The most I can do is like, comment, subscribe, and share ;)
Maybe almost like stock trading, but with youtube channels. Invest when they're small, then when they get big it's a win for everyone.
@@MrGatlin98 I think i am repeating myself, but thank y‘all for this amount of support☺️✌🏼
I promise i will try to come up with cool ways to invest in this channel😉
Great video again, I really enjoy watching them!
thank you so much!
Great video as always! I wonder what the Dartboard at the end was about🤔
;-)
it would be great if all videos on youtube were this well thought out . GREAT JOB
Thank you so much! What did you like about it?
Mate that video quality is insane!!
I super appreciate your support, Cristian!! Thanks!
Been looking forward to another upload! Great stuff. Still a criminally underrated channel, hopefully the algorithm finds you some day.
thanks! We'll just keep going ;-)
Fantastic video. This channel boutta blow up. Also (and I will gladly let other people correct me if I'm wrong) I think that your title and thumbnail choices are spot on, very eye-chatching indeed.
great to hear! I always wonder what my community thinks about the thumbnails... what did you like especially about this one? :-)
Cool video
thank you!
Dude excellent work! You're off to a ridiculously good start with your channel and projects
thank you Evan! Glad you like the channel :-)
Impressive work Niklas!
Thank you!!
Crazy you only 815 subs very well edited, good stuff
thanks ruby! What did you like most about the video?
@@niklasbommersbach easier to say there wasn't anything I didn't like. Has a good pace, I like the graphics and humor. Very well made
I just had this idea the other day!
haha for real? How would you have done it?☺️
❤
nice triple 20
thanks Samuel! Ready for some more? ;-)
@@niklasbommersbach yesssss we want a 180 next 😎
@@samueldelmas2046 well… if my next project goes as i expect it to…😅
Please make a video on building a liquid Rocket engine
tbh, I thought about that once... Maybe this is something for the future. Stay tuned :-)
Hey bro, can i get the cad of the spring mechanism for the chute you did
Yes, contact me on Twitter / Instagram and I can help you out!
cool idea but these tube spring loaded chutes for drones have been around for a good while.
Yes... I just couldn't find one that fits my needs. I wanted to combine it with a drogue chute, wanted it to work autonomously and be "modular" so that I can swap chutes based on the weight of the UAV...
@@niklasbommersbach I had similar features in mine. It was a MARS parachute system with an onboard module that would sense sudden altitude changes and deploy. I also would retain the right to deploy it on demand. I will say the system sucked. I had two major crashes. One where the system never deployed. The other deployed but the tightly packed chute was too tight and wouldn't unfold in time. I like the idea of a drogue chute. I think a drogue would have helped my case. I think better yet do a force deploy to yank the chute open. Basically a tethered projectile to yank the chute open. This concept has been around for years with light experimental aircraft that use a mortar charge or a small rocket to pull the chute out quick. In your case maybe use a small tethered CO2 tank. The super small kind used in BB guns. Just an idea.
can you help me to write the code of the parachute system?
A drone hanging from a red and white drone… an even better target.
We trying to make same system for our school project.İ want to tell some questions about system. How can ı reach u ?
You can contact me via Instagram / Twitter
Bro can you share the Arduino coding, I am a college student and making this as a project
It will be very helpful
Can you share an Arduino code?

I'm the 69th person to like this video.
And I‘m the 1st person to like your comment about liking my video😂… Thanks for the support!
Shut up and take my money...🤔🤭
did you have real crashes?
I've had two significant crashes with my 7" quad. Both due to battery failure.
can't help but notice the starship shirt, you might not want to idolise someone who does exactly none of the engineering on his products, instead spending his time throwing tantrums on his website
He isn't idolising the CEO, but the system. Tho i do think that the CEO receives too much credit for simply spending a lot of money on the real underrated ppl who made the projects successfull while he claim that it is successful coz he work long hours & slept in his office 😂
@@johnwig285 tbh the system isn't worth idolising either, particularly with stuff like that launch pad exploding, and how that entire space centre is illegal
