It is a problem if you hit the wall with the edge of the roller because you’ll leave swirl marks on the wall that if they dry you’ll need to sand off before painting the walls
If you "come down onto the walls, you'll paint that later.." - you may lay a lot of white on to (what should be) dark walls. You might add the need to cut in more after you paint the WALLS. Just try to cut your ceiling properly, it will cause less grief later.
Brilliant job my friend, could see you are extremely knowledgable in this field.WE would like to see some doors painted, both using stain on a door and paint on the other. Thank you
i dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know a tool to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the password. I appreciate any help you can give me!
@London Kalel i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Ron Mclean When you start using straight brushes, you have arrived as a painter. They hold way more paint and you will be able to work faster. Plus, you can properly polish out your paint.
Thanks for the tips and pointers. I like the fact that I can use a smaller roller and a 21/2 inch cut in brush. The tip about Lowes and Home Depot was awesome and the cashback. Some people are in it for the buck, thanks for the savings ideas. Oh, and I like the curious cat....
I think the best way is to pay someone to do it for you. If you can't afford to do that, Benjamin Moore ultra flat ceiling paint is extremely forgiving provided you try to do it right. I also suggest covering everything in plastic. To include your own head. Because it will go everywhere. My glasses had tiny little spatters on them so eye protection is probably essential.
Ron Mclean I am a time served painter with 50years of experience always use quality brushes and rollers still better to cover ceiling light for all the time it takes.
Dont do it folks,if you go around the room with a paint brush it will start to dry by you get to rolliing it, you will get whats called a picture frame effect and its not easy to get rid of, you can paint it as you roll it then your paint lines are always wet,,trust me Ive made the mistake years ago !!
I do this but then quickly back roll with a small purdy roller as I go around so I get the same texture if it dries before you roll the main part of the ceiling.
I've learned that a good pattern for large ceilings that must be rolled is that you pick the wall furthest from the light source usually a window and you stagger blocks rolling in in the direction of the light. Create a "jigsaw" or "step" pattern. 1 meter by 2 meters long, next to a 1 meter by 1 meter, then 1 meter by 2 meters long, then one meter square to create "steps." Once your first stagger has been set up, then you proceed across doing 1 metre square blocks until you've reached the end. This allows to cover measuredly, and any necessary overlap is always on fresh wet paint so that it has time to even out. Also, the larger the brush the better. I don't like using 18 inch brushes with deep matting, but I do because it goes on thick and wide. 1 metre square is about 3-4 x 18" roller strokes. The problem with thick-matted rollers is that they spit.
No need on that brush work on the ceiling. Just use a broken in roller cover and you can sve yourself time and effort. The roller can do the same work as the brush.Just double check the coverage, but you will need to use brush for the corners.
Dude you need to turn that roller every few strokes to prevent a paint buildup on the open end of the roller and thus prevent roller lines that need to be rolled out making more work, also it is a big deal if you hit the wall with the side of the roller it will make swirl marks on the wall where you will be cutting in later and finally keeping a wet edge is not necessary if you are using a dead flat finish which most ceiling paints are,and you only need a wet edge if you are rolling paints with a sheen like eggshell or semigloss to prevent areas of higher shine where the two coats meet.
10mm to 12mm nap for good finish coverage paint loading 6mm to 8mm nap for the best finish but less coverage and paint loading maybe even a extra coat when a strong colour is involed. I've always used 12mm smooth surface's 25mm for uneven surfaces.
I like 1/2 inch covers most every thing I do, for walls and ceilings. Get a good roller cover. about 4 bucks If you are doing woodwork use a 3/8 X 4 inch long weeny roller. and use Hallman Lindsay Paint or Sherwin Willams Paint for great results. Hope this helps
No professional painter dips a brush straight in to a tin and if you cut in better you don't get a build up of paint on the wall use a 4in roller to do the edges
Why would a diy'er tell people this is the best way to paint a ceiling, trust me anyone who does this for a living does not use such a small roller, minimum 18" roller, I personally use a 2" brush to cut in, but a bigger one is fine.
I do this for a living and i certainly do not use an 18" roller, for a start i can't be arsed to spend the extra time cleaning it, and i don't have an 18" sink lol
how is it extra time to clean it and have you ever used a hose connected to the outside spigot to clean brushes etc...You must not make much of a living
I dip it about 1/2 inch in and knock of very little to prevent jut to prevent dripping. Same thing with the roller. Load up and keep it moving towards the wall or ceiling turning it along the way to prevent drips. Use a good quality roller cover. it will help to avoid spatters and give you better coverage.
Unfortunately mate the way you are rolling you creating an enormous amount of strain on your back, eight hours of that not likely your walking very well the next day
Til you fuck up and overspray people's possessions, furniture, blinds, etc. Then, you're losing 10x the money as you fix the damage. You guys only fit into new houses before anyone moves in.
I found the best way to paint a ceiling is to get someone to paint it for you.
I agree.!
Graham D brilliant
Funny man 🤓
Lmao too funny
After 3 coats I'm beginning to think the same 😭
This is my job in Greece. I work for 32 years and still love this job.
Thank you so much and keep going my friend.
what keeps that roller from throwing splatter?
Ceiling paint do I use Ultra White are White??
Thanks,
Mike

My house has a very old YELLOW (80s color) how to color it with white, any idea. I tried 3 quotes but still yellow shed is still there.

4inch brush to cut in. And a 18inch roller. That's how you paint a large ceiling!!!!
Luigi Sorrentino
I use a 3 1/2 inch sash brush on every thing and yes a 18 inch roller
Ron Mclean When you start using straight brushes, you have arrived as a painter. They hold way more paint and you will be able to work faster. Plus, you can properly polish out your paint.
Very true indeed.
Exactly!
Thanks for the tips and pointers. I like the fact that I can use a smaller roller and a 21/2 inch cut in brush. The tip about Lowes and Home Depot was awesome and the cashback. Some people are in it for the buck, thanks for the savings ideas. Oh, and I like the curious cat....
what if you arent painting walls. only ceiling, cuttin in first and then start rolling but then the cutting in starts drying.
I think the best way is to pay someone to do it for you. If you can't afford to do that, Benjamin Moore ultra flat ceiling paint is extremely forgiving provided you try to do it right. Yes i agree. get someone else to do it for you if you can. I use to use Benjamin Moore all the time. Good paint
How to reseason your blackstone after being used
plastic bag over the ceiling light to protect it from any over spray from your roller
Well with the roller cover I use there really is no over spray. Use a quality roller cover
Ron Mclean I am a time served painter with 50years of experience always use quality brushes and rollers still better to cover ceiling light for all the time it takes.
You are definitely correct. it is better co cover every thing you can !
Thank you for your comment.
Ron Mclean I find making sure you are taking all precautions to look after customers belongings can only be good for business.
again correct!
Great job buddy…. Nice vid & excellent info

Antony Gilbey I believe that..I always get the picture frame look.
I do this but then quickly back roll with a small purdy roller as I go around so I get the same texture if it dries before you roll the main part of the ceiling.

You could try a 12 inch roller with a half inch nap.
Lately that is what I have been using. Works very well
Nice job sir, thank you for your time
Using a quality roller cover and good paint helps. But you may still have some spattering
you'll be there all damn day!!! PUT THE PAINT ON THE WALL A RUUUUN WITH IT!!! SLAP IT ON AND THEN BACKROLL 8' OUT, DONE, NEXT!!
Rob Dameron

You dont backroll you brush marks? Gonna be dry before you start to roll. No wet edges gonna flash
Great points I'm going to get a 18 roller !
I hope your project goes smoothly
I use a 5 gal paint bucket not a rolling tray for my paint.
2 coats minumum. Always
well explained, thank you.
This is a good video-thanks.
Your welcome Steven, thank you for watching
What size nap??? Flat paint???
10mm to 12mm nap for good finish coverage paint loading 6mm to 8mm nap for the best finish but less coverage and paint loading maybe even a extra coat when a strong colour is involed. I've always used 12mm smooth surface's 25mm for uneven surfaces.
I like how he caulked the ceiling box and you can clearly see holes for the wiring. What's the purpose?
Thank you for the comment.
You really save a lot of heat by caulking any holes in junction boxes in the ceiling
Thank you for the comment
hi can you tell me if there is a good roller cover for satin or eggshell paint please
I like 1/2 inch covers most every thing I do, for walls and ceilings. Get a good roller cover. about 4 bucks
If you are doing woodwork use a 3/8 X 4 inch long weeny roller. and use Hallman Lindsay Paint or Sherwin Willams Paint for great results. Hope this helps
I'd fire his ass on the spot.
For many reasons that I found in the first 4 minutes.
I hope no home owners are taking this seriously.
John Brown Does nt even load the brush correctly
Hes dry rolling? Listen to your roller its telling you to fill it up
No professional painter dips a brush straight in to a tin and if you cut in better you don't get a build up of paint on the wall
use a 4in roller to do the edges
In sweden we do.
Looks like you are going to have cat paw floors on. At least it will give it the jungle look, lol.
I hope that cat didnt think that paint was milk..
No she did not think it was milk :-)
If I came down on the ceiling like that I’d at least flat it out. It’ll show as a lump beneath the paint later on.
love your curious cat!
Thank you , Shes a good kid !
Thanks Ron!
use magic paint it is pink, and dry white, put on with roller see where you have been ,
You forgot the tacos and a few coronitas👌
I agree 18 inch is better. Not every one wants to buy an 18 inch roller.
not everyone who thinks of the best way to get the job done, get paid ,then move on to the next job
You're gonna have cat prints on your hardwoods.
He's eyeballin' it. I've seen that look.
So that's what Edwin Van Der Sar is up to nowadays .
that it was martin shorts brother...
Spray the damn thing.

I am a diy'er and I appreciate him saying the smaller one can be used. I am a small woman and the 18" would be to big and heavy. I like his tips!!!!
DIYer? Can tell how you load your. brush
I dip it about 1/2 inch in and knock of very little to prevent jut to prevent dripping. Same thing with the roller. Solid patches
This is hallmark for how not to paint your ceilings. I can already see roller lines. This is bad, just bad
So paint the ceiling first and then walls. Ok.
So if your plan is to paint the walls, then yes paint the ceiling first.
I just use a 21 inch brush.
What ever works. LOL
Like watching paint dry.
The best way to paint a ceiling is to use an airless sprayer. 10x the speed and half the clean up.
Til you fuck up and overspray people's possessions, furniture, blinds, etc. Then, you're losing 10x the money as you fix the damage. You guys only fit into new houses before anyone moves in.
a real pro!!!
use winnie roller
Painting videos always have the worst comments, next is drywall, then masonry...
I agree!
paint that cat 3:05 lol
when you loosened the nut and took that plate off you didnt even bother to dust that huge ass ring of dirt lol
@3:00 paint the cat!!
I was thinking that was a brave black cat near white paint.😂
YES !
Doesn't have clue !
Disappointing. I was hoping you were going to tell me how to paint my ceiling without painting myself.
Stop. Get an 18" roller. As you were.
I would tell you to roll up your tools and go home.
by the look of his apparel he just started painting this morning!lol
Haaha, why, shotty workmanship? 🤔😟😱😂
This roller will give an orange peel finish. No thanks.
The best part 4:12 ;)
You don’t use 3/4 inch rollers on a ceiling 🙄🙄! Unless you want it to look like texture coat😂😂😂.
He can’t paint at all!
