Definitely true. UA's inability to keep up with Mac Silicon, or even just macOS updates is why I've abandoned my Apollo Twin MkII. At the end of the day, UA is all about selling plugins. But the hype doesn't actually live up to the reality, as they are falling further and further behind in their software.
@@FernandoDCDuarte Yes and no on macOS 11.x compatibility (including Monterey and Apple Silicon). The current UA software requires a custom kernel extension (kexts) in order to function. New versions of macOS see custom kexts as a security vulnerability. That's why UA has the user disable this at installation, thus breaking some of macOS's security. Developers that need kernel functionality should now be using MDM instead of the older kexts. So yes, it will work on the M1, but at the cost of less system security.
First rule of thumb, it is not necessary to upgrade the OSX except for the occasional security patch - unless you want to create headaches for yourself. I not address the nightmares behind Mac silicons. Yes there is overhype but I disagree with falling further behind.
Great honesty 😁 I surprised more musicians/producer don’t say the same thing. I have a UA Apollo Twin X in my home studio and considering another interface for mobile & iPad. The UA Volt series looked like a cool option, but the tech specs are inferior to the Audient id4. But, even the notion of having 2 interfaces is kinda crazy. I sound be able to use the id4 for everything.
I have the Apollo solo I love it I have had no problems I have a HP laptop and haven't had any problems with it and I love the fact I can record thru plugins so I don't have to worry about outboard gear I can go in with compression I can go in with a mic pre like the Avalon or the Neve 1073 all of that stuff is great and the sound is outstanding plus it came with $1300 worth of UAD plugins and now they have Sparks plugins so I can use them with any interface and if you own the hardware you don't have to buy the spark plugins the ones you own comes free and you can purchase a dongle key and put them on another computer with any interface and use them along with your other plugins..so yes I love it..❤❤❤ 👍👍👍
I have to give it to UA on that one. They have always been at the top of the list for great converters. Not saying Audient lacks but UA has the edge for sure.
I agree 100% People ask me all the time what’s a good budget interface. I say well if your budget is $100-$200 you’ve got a lot of great interfaces to choose from nowadays. The audient is always at the top of my recommendation list.
@@hecure I've honestly had my eye on the Arturia Audiofuse. It depends on how many ins and outs you need but that one has really peaked my interest. It currently comes in at around $900 USD.
I'd have said if you want cross platform to go with USB, not Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt also requires a driver, which is why it wasn't seen. Many if not all USB interfaces are class compliant, meaning no driver needed, the OS will recognize it without problem. I'm not a UA fanboy or anything, but just offering my take. MOTU is also a very solid choice in general.
HEY SO I PURCHASED AN APOLLO SOLO AND I COULD NOT GET ANY CUSTOMER SUPPORT UNTIL DAYS LATER, SO I RETURNED THE SOLO AND GOT THE AUDIENT ID44 AND OMG I LOVEIT,,, AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE WALKED ME THROUGH WHATEVER I NEEDED BEFORE MY UNIT ARRIVED
Dude, I did essentially same thing. Sold my Apollo Twin Duo X for an iD14. I also run Windows, and the Apollo was a crackling, distorted disaster. It's an extremely common and well known issue on the UAD forums. There are dozens of threads on precisely the windows comparability issue. UAD has been saying they are aware of the issue, and are working on a solution... But they have been saying that for 5+ years, and they claim that giving updates on solving the issue is a 'privacy issue'. I think they mean IP issue, potentially - but even then, sounds like a cop out to me. How is patching a technology and updating a community about progress on said patch an IP or privacy issue? It's commonplace in any industry to admit problems and give updates about progress. So, to further your grievances with the UAD back and forth / sometimes works sometimes doesn't, I sold my Apollo for the exact same reasons. I love my Audient. It sounds incredible.
Hi, I’m new to producing. I decided to go woth audient id14mkii instead of apollo, so now i would be thankful for suggestion of which plug ins to jump into. I would just like to start working on serious plug ins, and these chambers and studio rooms that UAD is selling, is there alternative to it? Which bubdle would you recomend that I use/learn if im not having an apollo. Long story short, what is great alternative to UAD plug ins? Thank you.
Another one, for the iD14mkII: 2 in's BUT 4out's Doesn't look like much, but you get the chance to run external gear for instance, like a compressor or equalizer, not to mention different speaker and/or headphone amplifiers. Plus, the built in headphone outputs can have their own mix, so actually 6 physical outs/mixes, in a small footprint, bus powered interface.
I keep wondering if it would run well with logic i/o plugin. I have the SPL Marc One but the separate line out is the same as the monitor out 1-2. So I need a new interface with a 3-4
I went with the ID 44 better sound then my Maschine mk3 as Audient is comparable to SSL and if I have a magic box in the real world I got access to up to 16 channels via ADAT plus the potential outputs on the interface itself
I own an Apollo Solo usb3 for Windows and an iD4 Audient for mac/win and i combine them ,also the plugins. I do not know if UAD have thought like me, to own 2 audio interfaces just for one thing, but if you're stuck in the os,you need 2 for expandability. Normal and logical would have been to use a single interface, but it seems that normality means something else when it comes to making money. I respect both companies and I'm content with how much it offers me. I'm also waiting at least for LUNA on windows. That's will be fair! Greetings Joshua!
I've basically just done the same... ordered the iD14 MKII as I'm looking to replace the power brick dependent Apollo Twin to USB C powered iD14. Also looking for good OS compatibility as I'm working with a M1 Mac Mini but wheb traveling, replacing my 2015 MacBook Pro with a recent powerful Windows based laptop.
Hey! Any issues with the monitor outs dying? I’ve seen several videos of people saying this is happening and it’s the main thing keeping me from upgrading to an Audient interface.
thanks for sharing! i'm new to the game and am on the hunt for an audio interface. i'm abt to be switching between mac and pc on the daily so this was really helpful!! thanks again!!
I'm glad it could help. I'm mainly a MAC guy now days but it's still nice to have the option if I decide to use another windows based machine. I'm currently using the Antelope Audio Zen Q interface but I'm still a big fan of the Audient iD4 and recommend it to anyone looking in that price range.
I have used the id14 (first version) since the day it came out .apart from a little cosmetic fading it has been rock solid in daily uses across multiple OS. The sound is amazing and one feature I have found invaluable is the way you can assign the knob (at the touch of a button) to any parameter on your software or even in general .
The id14mk2 is nothing but problems. Gonna end up having to sell it for pure just crap product. Not recognized, settings changing on their own just useless.
@@softsmoken Windows? I’ve heard so many bad things about the compatibility with Windows. I’m using it with Mac and getting started was rocky but it just sounds too good to get rid of it😂
@@ctrlaltcreate3827Mac or windows? Not really interested either way, but they're useful tools for sure I have a Mac too, and actually I've had pretty much the same luck/ or lack of either way. The Mac is actually dedicated to music only-Thing is the windows has some music software licensed to it(and the software included with id14mk2 ) I can't move to the Mac without new keys which for whatever reason the usb exchange won't work for them etc.etc it's annoying. so I need to move it back and forth sometimes if I want to use all my tools which isn't a big deal I mostly work dawless anyway with akai force external synths a eurorack/nerdseq and 1010 bluebox mixer. Mostly I just had a lot of trouble getting the routing figured out and working with daw and everything on either system. No computer has been much nicer.
@@softsmoken That’s interesting. I was under the impression that it interfaced drastically worse with Windows. I think for all the bugs it has, it’s been my favorite interface so far. @@ctrlaltcreate3827 yea I hear that. At the same time with no computer everything just kinda works. If it dosen't you'll pretty much always be able to find out the little thing you have set wrong through the manual or an email to the manufacturer. Computers I've spent I dunno how many hours on getting nothing done just constant problems, without one mostly just getting used to not using a computer interface to kinda systematically create something kinda melodic from a dead (without the human) robotic device. But yea I like not using a computer. I just use bluebox as final mixer/ compressor=eq.. and record a wav straight into in. Gives it to me in separate track recordings/ one main mix track on an SD card.
I have used ID4 its amazing!! Great choice. But even with that budget of an Apollo i would prefer RME Fireface UCX ii, I am using it in my studio worth all bucks.
Funny, I'm trying the exact opposite, I've bought the UAD Volt 476 to replace my Audient ID 14. I will do a video on my experience when the Volt finally gets here! Thanks! I've smashed all the smashers! Salutations from astonishingly grey and still sorta weirdly not back to normal Ireland! ☘️☮️🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮️☘️
Yeah I agree UA has great products, but if you’re running multi platform such as Windows and Mac there are problems. I run an iMac for the studio with an Audient ID 14 Mark II And a Windows laptop Computer with an Audient ID 4 Mark II for my mobile rig. I had a short honeymoon with UA and I really liked having DSP technology but I had problems with their USB 3.0 devices not playing nice with other usb hardware. With that said I truly do want to get a universal audio 4-7 10 D compressor. Thanks for the video
We have the exact the same situation! UA's dsp plugins are definitely great and worth the price tag. But I just couldn't stand buying two audio interfaces to both my PC and Mac laptop.
Over the past couple of years, it has become the thing to attack UAD and its DSP protocols. The biggest gripe concerns those expensive plugins and the interfaces' price (because each comes with the basic plugins. (It's overlooked that you can run those in your DAW or not at all. I have SSL, Softube, and misc plugins. The UAD plugins are only exclusive to the Console App.). Btw I use the Console to route signals in and out of my computer. I've notice the price of UAD plugins are gradually coming down. It works for me! I have an Apollo Quad with 4 units of external hardware. I just bought an used Solo from GC for $249 for another Mac.
Thanks for the vid bud ! I think Audient has no On/Off button right ? and ever could find chance to compare with Universal Audio volt 2 ? ... AND my setup s with cloud lifter setup.. jus looking for no white or static noise interface if ever existed : )
For my work - I need the Mac compatibility - for my video work sing a Mac Studio Max because of using Davinci Resolve to edit and voiceovers. I got the Audient ID4 MKII with a Roswell Pro Audio Mini K87 mic that is made for it and there is no noise or issues at all.
Hello. About the win/mac compatibility, do the Volt interfaces share this problem? I´ve been looking into getting one and I have a Windows PC and a Macbook Pro that I both use on a regular basis for music production.
Great video! Ive been wondering if this id4mkII is a better option than the zen go. Im looking forward to buy one of these two and dont know wich one of them has better audio quality.
Great video so would you say this is a top interface in the $700 range? I really like it for its versatility (multiple headphones, adat, inserts etc.) But what are its best competitors?
This interface is in a class of it's own. Even with the latest interfaces coming out in the $200 price range I'd still pick this one over any of those.
what do I need as a new recorder that want to sing, do theatrical roles for animation film and audiobooks and some podcasts? I am thinking of getting either a Sontronics Corona or Orpheus or something different like the Shure 7B... But do I need a sound card to this between the mic and the mac or iPad? or something like the Volt 2 or Apollo Solo!? or should I choose the one you present here?! Can someone please advice me so I take the right path down the road of home recording... thanks a lot for any and all input! 😊
If you want an interface that's easy to use and works great with iPad. I'd get the ID4 mkii interface. The SM7B is a great microphone that works for a lot of recording styles. You can't really go wrong with that choice. I hope this helps.
@@joshuabutlermusic thanks! seems like the shure mic is very quiet and hard to hear light talking or singing on its' own? people say you need to spend another 150 dollars on a cloud lifter for the gain of this mic to be worth it... What is your experience? my main purpose is singing... thanks!
@@SimplicityForGood The last time I used an sm7b was thru a large console and it didn’t require the cloud lifter. But I have heard that people need it for most interfaces. If your main focus is music I’d take a look at the Rode NT1. Tried and true and I’ve owned a lot of them. No cloud lifter needed for that mic and for the price it sounds great. You can pick them up as a kit with shock mount and pop filter for under $300 usd.
@@SimplicityForGood Lots of bus powered interfaces don't provide enough gain for the SM7B. Some do - MOTU ultra lite mk5, Arturia AudioFuse v2 come to mind.
Thank you so much. I’ve taken a couple of month break from RUclips to set up my recording studio but, I have already decided to put verses in all of my videos going forward.
Ok.. So I watched all video.. and the most important question: Where the sound is fuller, wider, more bassy with kick? On UAD or on Audient? OUTPUT sound quality matters and is the reason of buying audio interface in 80%. I know that uad sound can be clean (a bit compressed), but I need good drum kick for my tech productions. M-audio Profire has better kick than my apollo twin usb. So what is your opinion about Audient regarding bass and kick and in general panorama and thickness of sound?
Thanks for this, I have gone down the rabbit hole researching UAudio, what justified the $$$!? I am already invested with Waves plugin wise, and I find the minimilist interface of the UAudio not very useable when comparing it with my UR28M which is about as versatile as it gets under £500. But Main thing above all, needs to be flexible and work with anything. If I were to upgrade I think I would go Audient unless something crazy happens anytime soon. Thanks for the run down.
Thanks !!! I have Audient Evo 4... I was thinking about UAD but this Video made it for me clearer... No need to switch or change I make the right choice
Again I love Universal Audio hardware. But unless you want to change just for the UA DSP..... (which you really don't need) Audient preamps and converters are on par with quality.
I am wanting to go from my audient id4 to the apollo solo heritage solely for the plug-ins that come with it. Would you say it was a major downgrade when going to audient? Is it worth the 500 or should I keep my id4?
Interestingly I am debating between theee exact two devices, and maybe the Apogee. Very basic I know but did you find the audio quality - in terms of the captured signal - as good on the Audient when compared to the UAD. That’s my only remaining concern.
My monitors are low volume and the sound is a bit weak and narrow, like a headphone output. Output is the latest level, all settings, drivers are up to date, and monitor settings are so, why do you think?
I've not had any experience with the Volts but in all honesty I think the Volt is a cash grab from UA. I can't imagine them using the same preamps and converters for half the price. I'd go with the tried and true ID4 MKii Plus you get the extra headphone out. :)
What software come with the ID4 MK ii ? I'm curious about their mixing solution .. curious about any goodies included like IR loaders, cab sims, effects , etc.
Great Video with all very valid points, i recently bought a twin usb which im happy with. So i decided to buy a solo for my second studio. And just like you said it had a few teething problems. i finally got it working after spending £80 extra on cables etc. UA. should include the cable especially for the pc version as not all cables work, even if they meet the spec required. On the plus side, I can say that there support was very quick and helpful. and they sent me links to find the specific requirements for the cables. i probably wouldn't of struggled so much if they added these links to the setup page of there website. anyways getting back to your post. i hesitated in between buying a audient interface as i bought a audient Nero last year, and i found the quality excellent. But i bought the solo so i could get the free heritage bundle to add to my twin plugins. i absolutely respect your point of view and will look out for more honest reviews from you. i understand and agree exactly with what your saying in this video and i think its great content. Thanks
@@donmilland7606 There making an effort to do more for PC users. I had a long discussion with the support team guy. Hey Joshua, I am looking to upgrade from my Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Gen) and think I have it narrowed down to two different audio interfaces. I've noticed that no matter what I do mixing wise, when I compare my mixes to the big musicians' music on Spotify/Apple Music, the volume level and overall sound quality is night and day. I have a 2020 Macbook Pro, use the most updated version of Logic Pro X, and really only need my audio interface to record my own vocals and guitar (I use a midi keyboard that runs straight into the laptop for all other virtual instruments) in my bedroom studio. My price range is $500 or less. With that being said, should I get the UAD Apollo Solo or the Audient ID4 mkii? If you have other options that may better suit my setup/use, please feel free to let me know! Thank you!
Your interface isn't going to effect the volume of your mixes on spotify. As far as mixing, you will notice a slight difference if you upgrade to the Apollo or the ID4. The converters and preamps are quite a bit better. It's really hard to pick an interface with that price range. You have so many good options for around $500. I just purchased the antelope audio Zen Q and that thing is amazing. The Zen Go by antelope audio is under $500 and I honestly highly recommend it. It has the same preamps and converters as the bigger priced interfaces from Antelope but much cheaper. I LOVE the sound.
I actually just went ahead and purchased the Audient iD22 instead of the id4 mkii as I am wishing to build a small vocal stack upon it. I also already have a few Waves plugins and I’ve seen people comparing the id22 online to even the Apollo Twin. For the price of $500, I couldn’t resist. Can’t wait to use it! Lmk if you think I made the right choice!
@@AlecDeanBoeschen I think you made a great choice! The iD22 has a lot of room for expansion if you decide to add more i/o later down the road. The preamps are a step up from the iD4 also. Those are the same preamps that they use in the larger Audient consoles I believe. Great purchase and congrats!!!
I think u went into the good ol' trap thinking better gear will make ur songs sound better! Sure, u might get 10% better sound, but in reality the reason behind ur problem is 100% about ur mixing and mastering capabilities! And if u are comparing ur bedroom mixes to big musicians' songs that have been produced with millions of dollars, then... u are reaching the stars by trying to climb a ladder. Protip: To make very good results, u don't need any 500$ gear, any decent budget gear is enough. But what u DO need is a great performance on record AND great mixing skills! If u got those two, u have a chance at competing with the best.
for me, I was going to get the Apollo twin quad, but apparently the new m1 Mac pro is meant to be so powerful that DSP is pointless. uad are now moving native so I'm going to try the ssl2+ for now.
Thought the same, even with i5 or i7 plus 16 gigs of ram u can run things pretty well our pc’s have always been more than enough to handle certain things of course having hardware balance I’d ideal too, Focusrute Scarlett 2/2 is also a great audio interface
@@Stupid_Genius_09 the only shame about spark is the missing plugins, waiting for the distressor, culture vulture and hellios to become native right now then I'll be completely satisfied. You can't beat the UA plugins though.
Hey Joshua! I am looking to update mi old Digi002. I was looking the ID14 mkII,the apollo twin and the Discrete4. Can you tell me your experience with the sound quality with pres and converters. I want ti get the best sound posible no matters the ins and outs.
I had the DIGI 002 control surface when it first came out. Absolute beast at the time. You'll notice an amazing difference in headroom and quieter preamps on the audient. If you're not worried about the In/Out number I'd give the iD4 gen 2 a try.
@@joshuabutlermusic thanks Joshua, its nice to know that you had a digi002. You can understand where I am stand. There is a big difference between the price of the Id14 mkII and the Apollo Twin. I don’t know if there is a difference on sound quality or I would be paying for the plugins in the UA.
Hey Joshua, Im looking to upgrade scarlett solo because focusrite has been a horrible experience for me...interface kept disconnecting and all types of stuff. I was looking into audient and have heard amazing things about it, but ive also seen alot people saying that there are Compatibility/driver/firmware issues, they don't last long, people receiving defective ones...have you had any of these experiences or any bad experience. Need help upgrading my interface...thanks in advance!
Hi Joshua. Thanks for this video. I bought a Audient iD22. I tracked some stuff but seems like the high frequencies does not come through too nice the way I want it to sound. Especially on the cymbals. Is it something to do with the sound of the Audient? To me it sounds almost like trying to play high frequencies through a woofer. It's not nice a clear even though I tried to EQ it to sound better. I have a Rode NT2A mic that I used without an additional pre-amp that I recorded vocals with. The vocals has the same kind of effect. The highs does not sound so smooth. Is it normal with this Audient interface?
I never had an issue with the high frequencies coming thru. A lot of factors play in to it tho. What's your mixing situation? What speakers are you using? Also if your music listening software isn't the same as your daw. It could have eq already on it. A lot of variables. It's impossible to know for sure without knowing your whole set up.
Ok thanks for your feedback. I sue Studio One 5 as my DAW. I have Yamaha S5 monitors. I used a Rode NT2A mic for vocals. But I hear what you say. Suppose I will play around with it a bit and see where I end up. I got me a Shure SM57 mic now and will trial it on there and see how it goes.
@@wesleyhendricks153 So what was the result? Could you find what was messing up with your higher frequencies? I'm considering buying Audient interface and would appreciate to hear your experience with yours now.
To be honest, things sound ok now. Not sure what the real issue was. But my iD22 has been sent for repairs like 3 times already in 2 years time. Just came back from repairs and the pcboard had to be replaced. Just normal use. I bought a used Roland Quadcapture before this interface and am still using it without any issues whatsoever. So it's hard to say what you need to do. I am using UAD plugins for the last year and if I had the money then would definately go for an Appollo interface as you get free plugins not to mention lots of UAD plugins are regularly on sale lately and can be used natively. But I am not mobile so my needs and your needs might differ. I did a song using UAD plugins and one using Waves and the clarity I get with UAD is why I love using them. They are proven to be closest to the hardware. But I also like some Slate plugins as well. If you want to go the Audient route I'd say go for the iD44 as it has better preamps. The Apollo also has great preamps but perhaps a bit more expensive. My advice would be to do as much research possible on what you interested in and then decide. Good luck!
Oh just to add...the iD22 is said to be the most problematic model. So if I were you I would avoid going for the iD22. Rather go for the iD14, iD24 or the iD44. iD44 would obviously have the best preamps.
This is gonna be my next and probably final interface. I've heard too many good stories about Audient. I wanted an Apollo but geez does it not cost to step into the Apollo world. I also think that Audient is the only one on the price bracket that can expand inputs through ADAT/SPIDIF?
Alguien de aquí ha tenido problemas con ID4? Repentinamente el volumen se incrementa a niveles de distorsión abrumadores, me ha ocurrido un par de ocasiones y es algo con lo que no se puede trabajar. Alguien? Ayuda!
Interface is to record sound. Which sound is best ! Arrow was a warmup for people entering the market. You did need power, but for short recording outside without power it would work ! PC and gaming ? Your not in the music business ! Get something cheap, a Blue YETI usb mic with headphones is all you need, gaming recording you done and great sound ! Dump the junk plugins !
Can’t say for sure but my guess on why the laptop couldn’t power the UA without being plugged in is likely in how the power management settings are on the laptop. They generally limit draw when they’re unplugged but you should be able to get them to run full power to everything and just drain the battery faster. Could also be in the device manager for individual port management if the TB has a power limited option.
The point with your laptop was... crappy hardware with a poorly supported TB3 ;-) - but what I "hate" about my Apollo is.. the way they handle the plugins, you always see all the plugins, and not only the one I own. Next thing is.. on a Mac, UA takes ages to update the drivers for a new macOS. I'm thinking to replace my Apollo with something else...
Most audio companies are slow to update drivers/software for the new macOS releases. In general, don't upgrade to the new OS until you know they have the drivers out. If the interface is USB class compliant, it will work without a driver.
i use the apollo solo (TB3) without problems on a windows laptop but i'm seriusly thinking change to a volt 476 because i don't really need the uad limiting plug-ins and want more conectors, i have the doubt if have a big diference on quality's sound. audient seems too cheaper in comparison of mencioned, that give me distrust. Any thoughts?
The id4 is a great little interface but I can see why you would have concerns. UA preamps are pretty hard to beat. Unfortunately I didn’t think to compare the two in a shoot out while I still had both of them.
Man I have the id14mk2 and I am having so much trouble getting the routing etc working properly or working with daw(cubase on pc, garage band ableton on mac) I dunno I just can't find straight forward instructions and can't get it working beyond like mic in and audio out on discord.. extremely frustrating. Also the software it came with can only be installed once so they're all on my pc and don't work for shit so I cant even move them to the Mac. Man I have regretted buying audient... since I bought it pretty much.
I started to have a weird issue with mine switching from 48khz to 44.1khz at random even in the middle of a session. My DAW would tell me it could not find my interface half way thru a song. I ended up going with a different brand all together. I purchased the Arturia Minifuse 1 and that thing has been a work horse. As I say that I just received my Antelope Audio Zen Q Thunderbolt Interface today. So I'll probably be switching to that interface full time here pretty soon. Good luck on your issues. I hope you get it worked out.
@@joshuabutlermusic I've been looking at getting an adat expansion but then I'm still using the same pain in the ass, or usb interface mixer or something- I also have an akai force which can function as an interface or use another interface to run as the forces own interface. I mostly work dawless or I would've gotten rid of it long ago. Should've just returned it while I could. Pain in the ass
Great post, I won't buy into the UAD ecosystem and it looks like many other people are concluding the same thing. The new Volt was exposed as very ordinary within hours of release (110dBU dynamic range puts in the same camp as Behringer/Stenberg/Presonus entry level) a gimmicky cash grab for the lower end market using their badge as a selling point. My studio is based around an iD44 and an ASP 800 very, very happy indeed.
Lack of dual headphone jacks "the biggest oversight in our universe" lol. Audient's desigb is poor - you have to push the interface away from you on desk to accommodate even one headphone jack, and usually it ends up sitting at a 45-degree angle. By contrast, not only does the SSL2+ come with two headphone jacks, but it also dedicated volume controls for each... and the jacks are in the back, out of the way.
Did you own an Apollo or not this video says you did but around your reason #5 you mention another person and it seems like you’re going off what you’ve watched on RUclips. Do you or did own an Apollo and actually make music or content with it?
Love that verse you posted! :) Amen.
On the plus side, the latest UA software, drivers and Luna software are now M1 native with Monterrey support, if I'm not mistsken

I have the Apollo solo I love it I have had no problems I have a HP laptop and haven't had any problems with it and I love the fact I can record thru plugins so I don't have to worry about outboard gear I can go in with compression I can go in with a mic pre like the Avalon or the Neve 1073 all of that stuff is great and the sound is outstanding plus it came with $1300 worth of UAD plugins and now they have Sparks plugins so I can use them with any interface and if you own the hardware you don't have to buy the spark plugins the ones you own comes free and you can purchase a dongle key and put them on another computer with any interface and use them along with your other plugins..so yes I love it..❤❤❤ 👍👍👍
is your hp laptop a ryzen one?
Praise be the most high...in the name of Jesus
Because the convertors are just badass!!!!
I have to give it to UA on that one. They have always been at the top of the list for great converters. Not saying Audient lacks but UA has the edge for sure.
It's amazing how cheap audio interfaces are with not only a good mic pre, but an EXCELLENT mic pre. The Audient is the ultimate example of this.
I agree 100% People ask me all the time what’s a good budget interface. I say well if your budget is $100-$200 you’ve got a lot of great interfaces to choose from nowadays. The audient is always at the top of my recommendation list.
@@joshuabutlermusic which interface do you recommend for up to $1,000?
@@hecure I've honestly had my eye on the Arturia Audiofuse. It depends on how many ins and outs you need but that one has really peaked my interest. It currently comes in at around $900 USD.
Guys, just wait for the Neve 88m to come out! It could be a game changer.
@@OneOne6ix It will also be well over $1000
100% true .Audient is very good sounded interface and rock solid drivers for Mac and pc.
Thank you bro for confirming this for me. It gave me such a hard time on my new Mac M1! I just returned it yesterday
I've heard so many good things about the Audient that I can't wait to get my hands on one.
Thanks for your info. I now have the Audient ID14 mkii in my Sweetwater shopping cart!
Am thinking of upgrading,...really helpful piece..thanks Joshua
I also find the audient is amazing preamp are so good
Thanks for the content, and ESPECIALLY the verse!
I got behringer umc204hd and motu m2. Both work great with both windows and macos.
Thank you.
Another one, for the iD14mkII: 2 in's BUT 4out's
Doesn't look like much, but you get the chance to run external gear for instance, like a compressor or equalizer, not to mention different speaker and/or headphone amplifiers.
Very Interesting ! Thank you for this video, because I hesitate a lot between UA and Audient !
Thanks very useful, loved the Verse too, GOD bless🙏☺️
Id44 is my go to
I own an Apollo Solo usb3 for Windows and an iD4 Audient for mac/win and i combine them ,also the plugins.
Very good video ----- Audient does very well with their equipment design and execution
I’m finding that there’s really no such thing as perfect technology, but just the ones with the most tolerable tradeoffs
Yeah….I’m not buying that…not saying it ain’t worth it but….for the price nah.
Funny, I'm trying the exact opposite, I've bought the UAD Volt 476 to replace my Audient ID 14. I will do a video on my experience when the Volt finally gets here!

MAY GOD BLESS YOU SPIRITUALLY AND PHYSICALLY.
Had a UA Solo. It was a crackly sounding pain in the ass. Sold it. Gimmicky.
You did the right thing….now look at them….they’ve lunched the Spark and years down the line they will release all their plugins natively.
I got really lucky on the timing. Lol
How's the latency issue with the Audient?
Yeah I agree UA has great products, but if you’re running multi platform such as Windows and Mac there are problems. I run an iMac for the studio with an Audient ID 14 Mark II And a Windows laptop Computer with an Audient ID 4 Mark II for my mobile rig. I had a short honeymoon with UA and I really liked having DSP technology but I had problems with their USB 3.0 devices not playing nice with other usb hardware. With that said I truly do want to get a universal audio 4-7 10 D compressor. Thanks for the video
Great review, explained all points very clearly and directly. I've been 90% sold on this, but this completely sold me on it.
Hangi ses kartını sevdin
We have the exact the same situation! UA's dsp plugins are definitely great and worth the price tag. But I just couldn't stand buying two audio interfaces to both my PC and Mac laptop.
Hopefully one day they will get it right. Like everyone else has. 🤣
Loved this information!!
And I can use all my UAD plugins with the Solo or whatever.
Now there is UA Apollo Solo USB Heritage edition which answer positive on all your why (except 1st-2nd headphone output)
It’s curious why “Audio Quality” is not on your list.
Thanks for the vid bud ! I think Audient has no On/Off button right ? and ever could find chance to compare with Universal Audio volt 2 ? ... AND my setup s with cloud lifter setup.. jus looking for no white or static noise interface if ever existed : )
thanks, great point
For my work - I need the Mac compatibility - for my video work sing a Mac Studio Max because of using Davinci Resolve to edit and voiceovers. I got the Audient ID4 MKII with a Roswell Pro Audio Mini K87 mic that is made for it and there is no noise or issues at all.
Hello. About the win/mac compatibility, do the Volt interfaces share this problem? I´ve been looking into getting one and I have a Windows PC and a Macbook Pro that I both use on a regular basis for music production.
From what I've heard the Volt series does great on both platforms. You should be safe with that one.

My iD-22 broke within two years and no support nor response from Audient.
They suck for those reasons
Joshua, What audio interface are you using today?
Hey, am inspired by the verse you displayed, that made me watched the video to the end...
I agree man 100%
Thanks for this, I have gone down the rabbit hole researching UAudio, what justified the $$$!? I am already invested with Waves plugin wise, and I find the minimilist interface of the UAudio not very useable when comparing it with my UR28M which is about as versatile as it gets under £500. But Main thing above all, needs to be flexible and work with anything. If I were to upgrade I think I would go Audient unless something crazy happens anytime soon. Thanks for the run down.
Thanks !!!
I have Audient Evo 4... I was thinking about UAD but this Video made it for me clearer... No need to switch or change
I make the right choice
Honestly tell me please 🙏
Which card is the best audient or apollo solo ? Thanks
subscribed. Thanks for the verse. Anyway, I have a an SPL Crimson 3 and was thinking of going UAD. Am i nuts?
I honestly still believe that UAD have some of the best preamps and plug-in simulations on the market. So I personally don't think you're nuts. lol
Plse JW, by the La2way what did you mean there? @2:52
Audient iD14 with Cloud lifter or Apollo Twin without cloud lifter? (Asking suggestion for my SM7B)
My monitors are low volume and the sound is a bit weak and narrow, like a headphone output. Output is the latest level, all settings, drivers are up to date, and monitor settings are so, why do you think?
ID4 MKii or Universal Audio Volt 2 (PC)? 🤔 I'm going to use it for recording vocals.
Does the headphone output power 250 ohm headphones well?
Thanks
UAD IMO are more suitable for Apple products.
@@donmilland7606 There making an effort to do more for PC users. I had a long discussion with the support team guy.
And he asked me to explain in depth what they could do to make the PC experience better.
So I gave him a few pointer's on troubleshooting and a said bring a few pages from manual, to the landing/setup/registration page.
Basically They do give you all the information you need but it was kinda hidden in the manual. When it should be on the setup page. Certain things like the specifications for the type usb c cable are important. As it actually works well once you have the right cable.
Anyways Thanks again I'll keep on checking your helpful posts. Peace 🙂
Hey Joshua,
I am looking to upgrade from my Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Gen) and think I have it narrowed down to two different audio interfaces.
@@joshuabutlermusic awesome thank you! Makes me feel more secure in the purchase hearing you say that. 🙏🏻
Focusrite gets such great reviews - what were the issues you faced with it?
How loud is the headphone output on the Audient id4?
Looking at getting this just for the headphone output. 👍
I didn't get a chance to use very demanding headphones but it ran my Beats Studios without a problem.
@@joshuabutlermusic cool thank you. 👍
This is gonna be my next and probably final interface. I've heard too many good stories about Audient. I wanted an Apollo but geez does it not cost to step into the Apollo world.
I also think that Audient is the only one on the price bracket that can expand inputs through ADAT/SPIDIF?
How is the clarity of the monitor output sound compared to the UAD
Due to the internet - a bit worse. Audient is a budget solution.
Alguien de aquí ha tenido problemas con ID4? Repentinamente el volumen se incrementa a niveles de distorsión abrumadores, me ha ocurrido un par de ocasiones y es algo con lo que no se puede trabajar. Alguien? Ayuda!
Quality???
Interface is to record sound. Which sound is best ! Arrow was a warmup for people entering the market. You did need power, but for short recording outside without power it would work ! PC and gaming ? Your not in the music business ! Get something cheap, a Blue YETI usb mic with headphones is all you need, gaming recording you done and great sound ! Dump the junk plugins !
you should try SSL2....its amazing...regards
Can’t say for sure but my guess on why the laptop couldn’t power the UA without being plugged in is likely in how the power management settings are on the laptop. They generally limit draw when they’re unplugged but you should be able to get them to run full power to everything and just drain the battery faster. Could also be in the device manager for individual port management if the TB has a power limited option.
Will the audient be compatible with Mac air? Just subscribed.
Yes sir. I've actually used it on a friends Mac and it works amazingly.
Audient id4 or Evo 4 or volt 2 thanks
Uad Volt 1 vs audient id4 mk2???
The point with your laptop was... crappy hardware with a poorly supported TB3 ;-) - but what I "hate" about my Apollo is.. the way they handle the plugins, you always see all the plugins, and not only the one I own. Next thing is.. on a Mac, UA takes ages to update the drivers for a new macOS. I'm thinking to replace my Apollo with something else...
Regarding your first comment. This is precisely why I switched back to Mac. lol And I agree about the plugs. That always drove me crazy.
Most audio companies are slow to update drivers/software for the new macOS releases. In general, don't upgrade to the new OS until you know they have the drivers out. If the interface is USB class compliant, it will work without a driver.
What? ID14 does not have 2 headphone ports. It has one. Just one is 1/4 jack and 1/8 jack.
ID44 does have 2 Jack's trully for 2 mixes
iD14 MK2 does have 2.
Bro how about the uad 276c
UA has come a long way since I posted this video. I’ve not had a chance to review the Volt but I’ve heard good things about them.
i use the apollo solo (TB3) without problems on a windows laptop but i'm seriusly thinking change to a volt 476 because i don't really need the uad limiting plug-ins and want more conectors, i have the doubt if have a big diference on quality's sound.
audient seems too cheaper in comparison of mencioned, that give me distrust. Any thoughts?
The id4 is a great little interface but I can see why you would have concerns. UA preamps are pretty hard to beat. Unfortunately I didn’t think to compare the two in a shoot out while I still had both of them.
Go Gators!
Go Gaters!
Can't wait for this season to start!!!
Why the audient and not e.g. SSL 2

Pain in the ass
do you have a fake eye? one pupil is larger then other
I'm partially blind in my left eye so it's usually more dilated than the other. Both of them are real tho. 🤓
I was deeply saddened when I saw the Volt release. It struck me as an absolute cash grab using the UA name.
@@joshuabutlermusic it was.
I've had 2 Apollo twins, one Apollo solo and one arrow since 2017. I've recorded many projects with them.
@@joshuabutlermusic this was very helpful thank you
@@iamdanielrobles I’m glad it helped bro!
