      I actually think it is. The Nolan and Burton movies are great but this one captures every thing likable and tragic about Batman and Bruce Wayne and the noir roots of the comics. It's a shame the budget wasn't higher. That is why the animation seems like TV animation, good but not spetacular. Still they did the best with what they had and created a wonderful cinematic piece.

      Heath Ledger was Chris Nolan's Joker, because Nolan hated comic books and wanted everything in Gotham City to be "real", including loose-cannon RUclips celebrities...Party-pooper.
      The 90's Batman cartoon wanted to stay true to the 40's vibe of the original Golden Age comic, and Mark Hamill WAS the sardonic circus showoff of the original comic. Mark Hamill, Jack Nicholson or Caesar Romero, end of debate.

      @AspieMediaBobby 2 года назад

      @@ericjanssen394 Far be it from my anarchist ass to defend Christopher "Neocon" Nolan but to be fair, he never said he hated The Comics, that was actually Tim Burton.Indeed, Nolan and Goyer cited classic Batman stories such as "Year One","The Long Halloween","The Man Who Falls" and "The Dark Knight Returns" as influences on their screenplays as well as Charles Dickens` "A Tale of Two Cities",Knightfall","The Killing Joke","The Joker`s Three-Way Revenge " and Joker`s first two appearances and even the most controversial aspect of Heath`s Joker appearance, the scarred smile,was a callback to Joker`s original inspiration:Conrad Veidt in the tragic silent film "The Man Who Laughs"). Hell, the mask Joker used in the bankheist scene in the opening was an updated version of one Cesar Romero`s Joker wore in an episode of Batman(1966) so it`s not fair to say just because Nolan`s personal sensibilities were more on the realistic and grounded side he did not appreciate the more comedic side of Batman lore(As Michael Caine`s Alfred Pennyworth and Morgan Freeman`s Lucius Fox also demonstrated as well as Christian Bale`s Bruce Wayne outside of the Batsuit and sometimes even in it showing a deadpan sense of humour not unlike Nolan himself in his rare interviews) ,he was just hesitant about going too deep down that rabbithole lest he repeat Schumacher`s mistakes with "Batman & Robin".

    • @AspieMediaBobby
      @AspieMediaBobby 2 года назад

      @@ericjanssen394 I will say, however, that I find it unfair Nolan gets all the credit for showing that a more grounded take on the comic book superhero film genre could work when the X-Men films, first two Punisher films,Daredevil,Blade,Men In Black and the Spider-Man films already did that!

      @@AspieMediaBobby When Dark Knight came out, people thought.MCU’s Iron Man one month earlier was a fluke, and didn’t go to see Edward Norton’s Incredible Hulk because of the ‘03 mess.
      So, when grownup non-fan critics fell all over themselves to say TDK “didn’t LOOK like a comic-book movie!”, they meant it didn’t look like the Fantastic Four movies or the Nic Cage Ghost Rider.

    My absolute favorite Batman film. It actually has him doing what he’s supposed to do solve a mystery as he has the title of the World’s Greatest Detective. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill’s Batman and Joker are top tier in their fields and the score by the late great Shirley Walker is spectacular!
    I own the blu-ray and cd of this film and highly recommend picking up both.

    The Killing Joke is a straight to DVD movie, an adaptation of the graphic novel and it was very underwhelming. Even though Mask of the Phantasm didn't have a big budget (just a step above the animated series set in the same universe) this movie is highly acclaimed and rightly so, many people considering it THE BEST Batman movie period.
    The other Batman movies set in the DCAU (the DC Animated Universe kickstarted by Bruce Timm) are all straight to DVD. Sub Zero is good but nothing spetacular, The Mystery of the Batwoman is underwhelming but still good overall and Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker is excellent! Almost as good as Mask of the Phantasm, but is set in the Batman Beyond future with Terry McGinnis as the new Batman and Bruce Wayne as his old mentor. It doesn't necessarily require a whole lot of knowledge about Batman Beyond the animated TV series but it is certainly more enjoyable if you were already immersed in that world. Knowing about the history of the second Robin (Tim Drake) is also relevant but the thing is almost the entire DCAU is worth your time. Really cool stuff!

    The ending is epic. There's a comic that explains what ultimately happened, but I refuse to read it and spoil the ending.
    Fun Fact: Late in production, Warner Bros. decided to make the movie a theatrical release instead of the originally intended direct-to-video feature. While the animators were thrilled and extremely grateful for this decision, this left them with less than a year of production time and scrambling to convert the aspect ratio to wide-screen.

    The artistic of the Batman Animated Series is just amazing. As you probably already know Tim Burton drew heavily from the 1930s when creating his rendition of Gotham mostly in terms of the outfits and overall architectural designs diving into that Art Deco artistic very much like the film Metropolis. The Animated Series on the other hand dives much more into that 1930s and 1940sfeel from the vehicles to the weapons and fashion it really feels like Gotham is stuck Art and design wise is in the 1930s/1940s but have modern 1990s technology the setting of the series. This artistic does differ a bit the more into the DCAU add some elements of 1970s for example police vehicles but the overall artistic stays the same.
    Metropolis on the other hand has a more 1950s retro futuristic vibe the city of the future in the eyes of people from the 1950s. Think Fallout and the Jetsons but more grounded. I’m honestly still waiting for a true depiction of Metropolis in live action as most renditions just go for your generic modern city for example the DCEU.
    The Batman coming out soon looks to draw heavily from that Dark Noire feel but still mostly uses modern elements but you can see a lot of hints of that old gothic Art Deco Gotham City so I cannot wait to see how Gotham in the movie.
