I was one of the survivors on that stage. Gaga was absolutely gracious and spent time hugging and chatting with all of us like the real, down-to-earth, thoughtful and amazing person she is. We encouraged each other to be strong and show the world what we were made of. We even got matching tattoos that week. Her team was equally awesome, her choreographer taught us the choreography to Telephone :)

I’d like to thank you for your strength. I don’t usually read through comments cause I always feel there is a lot of unneeded negativity. However, I am doing a project for a college course and decided to use this performance as my discussion.
It shows a lot of resilience to present yourself as a beacon of hope and an image of strength and survival on such a widely viewed media platform.
I am also a survivor of sexual abuse and to see men represented was very powerful.
Again, thank you. Sending you my love and respect.

I am terribly sorry to hear that that happened to you, and I sincerely hope that you overcame it and that your life had gotten better.
It is my passion as well as my absolute calling to be an author of fiction stories. I have many ideas for stories that I am going to write in the future. I had recently come up with an idea for a story that I will write sometime. It is going to be a story about one of the biggest issues in this world, which is sexual assault. I have nothing but absolute sympathy for people who are and were victims of that terrible crime, and my heart goes out to them. As a female, I have never been a victim of that crime myself, which is exactly why I would like to hear from people who actually have been victims of that crime. I would like personal insights, which are basically clear perceptions, from people of how that crime has effected and impacted them, because it is going to be a huge and crucial part to my story. I would like to hear personally from people who have suffered that crime about the psychological effects and the aftermath that they had endured as well as how they overcame and rose above it. For anyone who would like to respond to me, instead of replying with a public comment, please leave me a private message. (If you do not want to share any information with me, because you do not want to relive that traumatic event in your life, then, that is perfectly understandable, and you do not have to.) You have my word that I will not share anything you tell me with anybody whatsoever. That is an absolute promise. :)

There's so many songs about emotional suffering and abuse, but this one specific is for sexual abuse, and it must stay that way, because there's literally no songs about this issue, and the purpose of the song was to shine a light on the matter. I feel like this is the most powerful song ever written. It resonates with an issue that has been present in society since human civilization began. The term artist is used so lightly these days to describe an entertainer but Lady Gaga is truly the DaVinci of her industry, a pure genius and exeptional human being. Even though I have not suffered or experienced the pain of sexual assault or rape, I could feel the pain others have felt with every single note Gaga sang. Sadly she did not win the Oscar for the song but she did something much bigger that night and shined a light on an issue that should not exist.

You tell me: "It gets better, it gets better in time"
You say I'll pull myself together, pull it together
    "You'll be fine"
Tell me, what the hell do you know?
    What do you know?
Tell me, how the hell could you know?
    How could you know?
Til it happens to you, you don't know how it feels
    How it feels
Til it happens to you, you won't know
    It won't be real
    No, it won't be real
    Won't know how it feels
You tell me: "Hold your head up
Hold your head up and be strong
'Cause when you fall, you gotta get up
You gotta get up and move on"
Tell me, how the hell can you talk?
    How can you talk?
'Cause until you walk where I walk
    It's just all talk
Til it happens to you, you don't know how it feels
    How it feels
Til it happens to you, you won't know
It won't be real (how could you know?)
No, it won't be real (how could you know?)
    Won't know how I feel
Till your world burns and crashes
Till you're at the end, the end of your rope
Till you're standing in my shoes
I don't wanna hear nothing from you, from you, from you
    'Cause you don't know
Til it happens to you, you don't know how I feel
How I feel, how I feel
Til it happens to you, you won't know
It won't be real (how could you know?)
No, it won't be real (how could you know?)
    Won't know how it feels
Til it happens to you, happens to you, happens to you
Happens to you, happens to you, happens to you

This performance and song are so beautiful. I met Gaga after I drove my care into a telephone pole a month or so earlier. I broke my whole body crawled out of a fire coded out was amputated and then saved. She was so kind to me and I even in that state waited 8 hours in hot concrete for her b/c i knew she was planning a secret show in nashville to promote her album. She is magic and truly a martyr for sexual assault victims, women and gay men who have been abused. Love you Gaga

As a survivor, I so needed to hear that song and see the performance live. I cried in solidarity and anger. And it helped put into words my shared feelings. Someone who understands because she too is a survivor. I didn't feel so alone. Singing along with it now let's me both get some feelings out, many of which are still, after so very many years, anger and rage.
It also gives me a sense of power to speak up.
Been trying to pickup the pieces as best I can, and will continue to do so.
It really seems like Soooooo very many people do not understand the impact on my and others lives. And they do not get, understand or believe when memories buried so very deep, the abuse suppressed for so many years. And the turmoil and horror and shame and confusion as the memories start unexpectedly start to bubble to the top. You don't understand what is happening...
    God Bless You Lady Gaga

TW: SA. Have any other survivors watched this about 100 times on the anniversary or when something triggered them? I was assaulted in my sleep in family vacation by my aunts boyfriend. I was passed out from muscle relaxers because I have endometriosis which causes intense pain when Im on my menstrual cycle. I woke up to the attempt and managed to stop him from progressing further... but it haunts me every single day. Mostly how I was treated by the people around me who protected him after I came forward. I have been no contact with family that didn't support me and manipulated me into silence and now one is passing away, and I have to say my goodbyes, even though they never protected me or acknowledged my pain. I can't stop watching this. It wasn't our fault. We did the right thing by coming forward. Do not let them silence you. If you are reading this and you somehow understand what I am saying know you are not alone. We will make it through this. I see you.

This song is heart wrenching, but true. I am a survivor of a gang rape on my 13th birthday and thrown out a second story window. I rode my bike to the store and looked older. I did receive justice, they each got six years . However, my life is in ruins right now from PTSD. My brain blocked it after sentencing and came back like a hurricane before my daughter’s 13th birthday. It has consumed me and my brain is on a loop. My short term memory loss is so severe that’s embarrassing. I have to sleep separately from my husband bc I either wake up screaming, fighting, or crying. My whole life I thought one way and now I know that it was all wrong.
