    In this video we take a quick look at the single shot 45/70 from Henry. These rifles have filled the niche in the market that H&R is no longer fulfilling after being purchased by Remington. So far the little rifle is holding up well and packs a wallop in a lightweight and easy to carry package. Stay tuned as we will be scoping and revisiting this rifle in the future. Much more on the way.

    Single-shot rifles, a great way to reduce the expense of ammo consumption and learn the importance of each shot. What I loved about the H&R rifles/shotguns was the break release, it was a push button rather than the dumb side-swipe lever. Was so much more intuitive and ergonomic.

    Favorite feature of my Henry single shot 410 is how nicely it breaks in two. Makes hauling the firearm in/on a backpack great. A 38 Spl SWC bullet from my pocket/speed-loader pushes the pivot pin out nicely.
    A good day is a day squirrel hunting with my Hill People Gear Umlindi packed with my Trangia 28 cookset, a Wilderness Innovations poncho that can be a tarp shelter or hammock, my Henry Single Shot .410, giant Nalgene water bottle, and a good book to read.
    All that combined with conservation land exceeding 3,000 acres and I'll typically trek five to seven miles only to get one or two squirrels. Lol

      And the cambering has a shallow throat, so it likes loads made for the Marlin rifles as far as COL. Which this isnt a negative, just something to point out. So it is extremely accurate with the 325 FTX and the 300gr Winchesters where the ogive is set right at the case mouth. Good ammo choices man.

    Love the video - just bought one .45-70 for Cowboy Shooting long range, but will use it for feral hogs. Two things to note; 1. the latch release is ambidextrous which is GREAT for lefties (as are all Henrys) and the SS in Brasslite has a brass buttplate which makes the recoil a little harder, but the gun's a beauty and accurate right out of the box! Matches my .357 Big Boy and my .22LR Golden Boy for a gorgeous trio. More Henrys on the way! BTW, the guys at the CAS club are jealous because my new Henry cost less than half what the used H&Rs cost.

    Well lucky enough there are thousands of the H&R out there. I still have my 45/70 Buffalo classic. Put tall tang sight on it. It comes with the globe sight on the front. It is a joy to shot. Looking for a 38/55. Folks want a lot more money for them now. Good luck.

    Long ago, I had an H&R 20 gauge I used for all of my dove and quail hunting... never had an issue -- two shots within seconds and most of the time two birds. I can see this 45-70 fulfilling a great hunting day as well -- I'm thinking, Hogs.😉 OHH!! That nasty pinch. I vaguely recall that H&R had a rounded break action, no pinch zones. Dang, what I would give to get another H&R 20-gauge single shot, but not at the price I've seen lately. I think I bought mine (back in the 80s) for $149. If under $250, that'd be OK today. I recently seen the Henry 45-70 on sale for $479 at Bass Pro Shop; I think that is a great price for this gun... Black Friday Sale.

    I bought the Henry single shot in 223, and I am still looking for one in 20ga. But honestly I wish I passed on the .223 because the rifle just isn’t as accurate as I would like for a varmint caliber. The best I could do with any handload has been about 1.5” at 100yds. And that’s a lucky best group, more typically it is a 3moa gun. Which I will agree, wouldn’t be a big deal at all for a 45-70. But for varmint hunting with a .223 it leaves a lot to be desired.... of course keep In mind my results are from a sample of one and your mileage may vary.

    • @spyderxtra777
      @spyderxtra777 5 лет назад +1

      grip I imagine it would be, I think my accuracy issues are just the result of a break barrel action being less stable than an action where they barrel is permanently attached to a receiver. And even still it doesn’t shoot horribly bad, it’s just not impressive at 2-3moa

    I’d love to see a few RUclips reviews on a cold bore accuracy test. I like the challenge of hunting with a single shot, but I would not want to buy one just to see the results. So that might be an idea for a future video. Thanks for all you do.

    dont understand why "fudd" is being thrown around in the comments here. its a hunting arm. one that teaches shot placement. if you cant drop a critter with a single shot like this (not necessarily .45-70), you shouldnt really be in the woods.

    Eric and Chad, darn you guys ! I had been coveting the Henry 45-70 with the brass receiver for some time. After watching your video, I went on the hunt for one. They seem to be scarcer than hen's teeth. Found a Gold Henry Dealer in my area, and now have a H015B-4570 on order. Being patient, waiting to its arrival.... I have been in contact with the great folks at Skinnersights, planning on putting on one of their peep sight sets on my Henry. See what you guys did?? And who knows, I don't think that Swinestein will have any issues with my single shot rifle......
