I have one of these and I actually had to get a padded shooting jacket to use it, I also load it as an 1880 Carbine load with 55 grains of Black Powder, which was known as a .45-55. I would load it as a true .45-70 but I do not have balloon head cases so I can't get it all in there.
I recently sold my marlin 1895 dark. I absolutely loved it, but new parts do not work in the older models and finding correct parts would be very difficult if anything breaks on it. Gun was just for fun. But no point of having a toy if I am afraid of using it and having something go wrong. Bought the blued Henry single shot, a beautiful stainless old model Vaquero in 357 mag and still have a little over $600 in my pocket for another gun. I am kinda concerned about how much more this Henry might kick compared to the Marlin....which did have a brake on it.
Nothing like a 405 fp going 2000 fps it gets the blood flowing. For hunting I shoot a 350 grain hard cast at 1600 fps and it has always stopped them where they stand.
It would have to be chambered in .45 Long Colt, like the guy above me said. I don't believe this rifle is offered in .45 LC, sadly. It's also not optimal to run shotshells through a rifled barrel anyways.
I just hate how the fudds I fluenced the design....no ejector because they can't bend over to hunt for their brass... I hope the bear or boar will wait while you reload very very slowly.
Idk if that's do to be blamed on the fudds....or the way all shotguns are all going with the British influence...of over under shotguns on driven game hunts and there Insane God forbid a shotshell lands on the ground and gets lost ways of thinking....but it's a trend alot of single shot and over under shotguns are going now a days...and I've seen where u can get the same shotgun and pay extra money to have ejectors instead of extractors as an option
I mean honestly I love henry but this thing is nothing but there version of the ole h&r handi rifle...and I don't remember if the handi rifle has and ejector or not.....but if you want want a single shot 4570 with ejectors the ruger number 1 is top of the line and can be reloaded quite fast ...plus if bear or boar is is your issue the ruger number 1 has the strongest action of all time and can be loaded quite hot in the 4570...and in most reloaded manuals they have hotter ruger #1 only action load data......that said if faster reloads is the issue I'd 100 percent go with a lever gun in 4570
@@codyrivenburgh7645 that's good advice, I love Henry too but this seems to be a novelty for my uses. I love a simple light platform that can do the job but I may just use the single shot shotgun for that
@@jamesdeek7039 I mean I can see the novelty aspect for sure....but I will say the ruger number 1 is the best single shot I've ever layer hands on and the one I own I own in 4570 is top notch in fit and finish. Prettiness and accuracy...a.d since I'm not worried about bear attacks or being charged by wild boars...the single shot has never ben an issue in the deer woods.....that said I do own a henry lever action in 4570...so if inever travel to bear or boar country and need fast follow-up shots that would be my go to rifle

@@KCbuffalo yeah I was going to say the same thing 😂. I don't think there's a four-legged creature in North America that a 4570 with good shot placement can't take care of
Beautiful single shot by henry,,, and hitting steel with 4570 is freaking loud...

I I like to hunt with 45-70 gov. 💪🏼Good video keep up the good work. 👍Greetings from Germany.
Awesome video. I have the one with the brass receiver and butt plate. Wouldn’t have anything else. Never chased game with that 405 gr load.

Hits hard on both ends
Hey Brother, Great video…keep em coming. Just picked up a Henry lever gun in 45-70. Great gun from a great company.
One of my favorite guns to shoot and own nice wood on that blue steel 45-70
Love my brass single shot 45-70 have put around 75 rounds through it, you get used to the recoil
Is your rifle accurate? I have a Henry Single Shot brass .45-70 and I haven't fired it yet.
@@CRD-hi6vkjust getting your comment now but I’ve gotten pretty good groups with the Hornady 325gr FTX with just the iron sights
You’ll put an eye out with that thing
I ve found 45.70 recoil slot like 3inch mag 12 gauge
Wish they would make one in 327 federal.
@Cimarron Peacekeeper why would a repeater cost the same as a single shot. I can't spend 800+ for a lever rifle.
Why
Way to go brother.👍

2000!?!
Are you the one loading them that high? That projectile at 1200 is easy shooting, accurate and effective.
Fun fun fun!
Nice video thanks 👍
Always wait until it’s pointed down range before cocking. You will shoot everyone on RUclips through your camera.😂
😂😂😂
Can you shoot black powder ammunition with it? Should be a softer recoil, more smoke and better smell :-D
or smokless,as french Vectan A0 for soft ammo. black powder mays be using of course for 45/70!
45-70 killed a fuck ton of buffalo at hundreds of yards back in the day
A 405gn. at about 1200, excellent load.
can you soot .410
?
I think that’s only 45 long colt that they’re interchangeable

@@kellenphan7198 well the .45 Long Colt is not as long as the .45-70. But yes not optimal for shot shells
Original chambering 45/70 sharps
You really have to dig the brass butt plate in hard so that you move with it.
Nope Henry has inept customer service that'll waste your time...trust me ,two hours of my life at least gone in a weeks time.

Actually I think the ejector was done away with because a woman complained about the hot cases landing on her tits and they were afraid of a lawsuit

You shouldn’t need more than one shot with a 45-70… just say you’re a poor shot
