This guy's a badass. Just cracking 45-70 rounds right off the back porch in his overalls. Good ol' American values.

Those special color case hardened sights from Skinner made for the Henry color case hardened 45/70 is just awesome.

That is an amazing tool. The color case hardening is old school class. I hope to have one of those some day in the .45-70.

It's a work of art, well worth the money. I'd be afraid to take it hunting in the woods, lest it might get scratched up or something. Thanks for the review on a magnificent rifle.

    That's a beauty!
I have a Henry 45-70 with a brass receiver that I bought about 7 years ago.
Just recently, I got a Henry Big Boy with a brass receiver and side loading gate in 45 Colt.
Henry is my favorite firearms company and I'm happy to have these fine rifles.

Like you, Boge, I'm very fond of lever actions. While this Henry is beautiful to look at, the action appears to be stiff and jerky.
Thank you for including the Jeff clip at the end of the video. 👍

The action will loosen up after your shoulder surgery after shooting the necessary rounds to break it in.

With smokeless powder and a strong rifle, the current .45-70 loads basically match the old standard black powder .45-120 loads.
Winchester still makes new .45-90 rifles (Miroku Japan), which give an additional ~150-200 fps over the current .45-70 loads. I think you can also fire .45-70 in .45-90 chambers.

One point: The ability to load using the tube loading system and unloading beats the side charging top off side gate because your thumb will thank you if you are shooting all day.

That one reason the 307 Winchester round was introduced... because of the spitzer point, The spitzer bullet design was first introduced in 1898 as the Balle D by the French Army. The Balle D bullet was designed by Captain Georges Raymond Desaleux, in order to improve the ballistic performance of the existing French 8×50mmR Lebel service cartridge of 1886, it was not first developed by Germany in the Mauser 98, the S bullet was in fact introduced in1905 for the Mauser 98 Rifle and changed from 8x 57 J (.318 bullet ) to 8x57 js (.323) J or I infantry 's' spitzer...

Nice. I wish Henry would extend this octagon barrel to 26"-28" and use a full length mag tube so they could take the place of the Marlin Cowboy 45-70.

I have to agree with Boge- I am so spoiled by the tube loading/unloading of my Henrys, I don’t see me buying another Marlin. Both are fine guns though, the more leever guns, the better.
