Now that you mention it: Aang was able to sense somebody breathing in deeply twice during the entire series and he is even able to deflect a full explosion as it combusts directly near him. No other airbender has displayed such a fine tone and precision with aerokinesis.
TBF there’s like 5 in the series and only two were fully realized.

@@rattyxoxo7397 That's a very good point. Although, judging by Korra in book 3-4, and in Wan, I think that the avatar state does increase the powers of the avatar regardless of the past lives. Moreover, there were 10000 years from Wan to Korra, in all of that time is possible that there were more than 2 combustion bending avatars.
@@RD-un2qk Combustion bending is probably one of the styles with more range, plus having the mastery of an avatar, plus the comet, I think they could reach a range far enough to not kill themselves
Aang reacting to the sharp inhalation of breath by immediately preparing to defend, implies that he has seen a sharp inhalation of breath used in powerful bending before. Perhaps the airbending masters of old used such potent breath techniques as a method of concentrating their element into more powerful strikes, or maybe aang has seen sufh breath techniques used with great effect in his early life elsewhere, as an air nomad.
He certainly seems to recognize that the sound means powerful bending, immediately.

Deep breaths only appear to be a distinguishing feature of combustionbending. Bryke have always emphasized taking a breath before any feat of bending, and both in interviews and supplemental materials, breathing is always pointed out as the source of power in all bending. Definitely important, but not that much of a departure from how important it is to other forms of bending.

@@christiangreen9272 I get your point the other term I normally use is "Netflix Effect" whereas a show (Corba Kai) is made popular for the general audience because of the "Netflix Effect".
Which is moreso the term I was referring to. Netflix giving is "popularity" can still apply here tho. Fans of the Avatar universe saw it as one of the greats.
However if we were to talk to people outside of the fandom for animation.
It's adult toons like Archer, Bojack Horseman, Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and definitely Rick & Morty of the most popular toons that we can have a conversation with.
Even in geek groups Avatar was not even known about till someone (like myself) mentioned it.
Even then I could only find maybe 4 other people that were fluent to understand.
Then the Memes pop up of who would be Vader, Ben 10, etc. with the lead going to whomever else because people know those characters.
People reference Aang to real life events & call him soft or anything less then what they think he could do.
It's because of their brain capacity to see that world as it applies today, how the characters would be & separate bad characterization rather then the character itself.
Also "Netflix Cool" can apply to shows also. Their are numerous examples of older shows that have a strong passionate fan base & have 5+ seasons.
They go to Netflix & they become "Netflix cool or Popular" and therefore receive the "Netflix Effect".
The problem is now that Netflix attention span is like a little child. If that one show or movie doesn't get enough attention then it does something else for instant gratification.
I watched if after deployment to Iraq in 2005, the 100 year war hit me hard as a soldier.
Something only a few people understand. So I get your statement, I just wanted to clarify what I meant by "Netflix Cool" 🙏🏾✌🏾.
P.S. also in this case the "Netflix Effect/Netflix Cool" term applies. Slice of Otaku was literally the only channel on RUclips to cover the Avatar Universe.
Now popular channels like, Comic Explained & Comicstorian are covering the universe only because they follow trends, since Avatar is popular they will do videos on it therefore giving it more exposure.

They drafted Avatar to rival Disney+. Without that, Avatar & Moesha (Paramount) wouldn't have a larger fandom for other generations. Moesha is free on Pluto app, but ask enough people where they saw it at & they will say Netflix

Okay let's not go too far thier buddy. My idea behind combustion bending is basically chi being highly focused at one point and fire bender are the only one who has a affinity toward it because fire bending is highly dependent on chi .

Can I make a note? Lightning bending takes fire bending and adds water style elements. Lava bending is arguably something of a combination of fire and earth (I'm a bit less clear on the details since I haven't rewatched Korra in a long time and haven't seen videos on lava-bending recently). Maybe combustion bending is something akin to fire with air-style mixed in? It certainly seems to be used to shoot fire quickly through the air, and does seem to relate to pressure in a way that is somewhat reminiscent of air pressure in the explosion. Also, and this may be reaching, but the combustion user in Korra is dating zaheer if I remember correctly (or married, I don't remember but she seemed to have romantic feelings for him) and zaheer is an airbender (admittedly, he didn't get his powers until after book 2 and zaheer and the red lotus are clearly on the older side, so it's not like he always had airbending, but Zaheer is also clearly very familiar with airbending philosophy since he learned how to fly, something other airbenders rarely could do). I'm loose on the details but I wonder if firebenders can gain new abilities by taking inspiration from the other elements. I also wonder if the other elements can work similarly or if this is unique to firebending. Not sure if I'm onto something or just reaching but it is interesting.

Combustion bending is potentially the only counter to blood bending aside from stronger blood bending or the avatar state. That's a 1v1 I'd like to see

@@mirac8803 They can bend with their minds. If they're caught in a grip, they can just shoot a blast towards the bloodbender. Pli can atlease, since she can curve her shots, combustion man would have to be directly facing the bloodbender

If we use mind as a synonym for brain in this case, the brain is not free of blood, making it a target as well for such benders

My theory about combustion bending that they are focusing the blast: when a firebender attacks someone, they make cones of fire, wasting fire even before reaching the target, i think combustion bending just focus the heat in it's path so that they can use as much energy but have more concentrated attacks

Me the first time I saw combustion bending: "IS HE FRIGGEN AIR BENDING WHAT WAS THAT"
I thought of it as something like a sci-fi disruptor, where the molecules of the target are energised to the point of ripping themselves apart to their constituent atoms. When the atoms rapidly de-energise back to a neutral state they find themselves unbound and spontaneously oxidise in the air resulting in further explosive carnage. If the combustion bender fires without a clear target then the energising pulse doesn't travel any further than their own forehead and they self destruct.

It possible combustion man is from a Firenation faction that studied Airnomads but with Sozin wanting to erase any trace of them to prevent the next Avatar to learn airbending they went underground, this would explain why he's a criminal assassin rather than working for the government.

I still think combustionbenders are born with their third eye.
Ok. So, this may be a stretch but here I go.
This to me seems more like Oxygen bending. As oxygen is a massive combustible force. If those who practice it try hard enough they could probably cope their own blood with pure oxygen. Or even create pockets of oxygen they can move to force their fire to flow like water.

id like to take the concept of combustion blurring the lines of fire and air and expand on it.
i actually have a theory that combustion bending does not solely belong to fire benders...i do believe givin the right circumstances an airbender might actually be able to do it.
as the video stated...combustion isnt so much an element as it is a "reaction" its already widely accepted that airbenders can creat vacumes and suck out oxygen...but what is to say they cant do the oposite? if an airbender created a super dense,small sphere of air..the size of a bullet or small cannonbal and launched it...the friction of air resistance might super heat it and cause combustion and make it explode on contact with an object.
Now curios what kind of mindset an airbender needs to do that.

Love the ideas in this video. It could also relate to the extremes of internal and external martial arts practices. Think this is a high mutated ability or manufactured from basic firebending (internal) with Air and Water styles (external).

A topic I would like you to discuss is the possibility of there now being TWO avatars: One for Raava, and one for Vaatu. During Harmonic Convergence, Vaatu fused With Unalak in nearly an Identical way to Raava and avatar Wan. At the end of Vaatu's battle with Korra, She effectively Killed Unalak. He was spiritually dispersed, and I sincerely doubt a man as passionate as Unalak would go into hiding after one defeat.
My point being, Why _wouldn't_ Vaatu make a reincarnated Chaos Avatar just like Raava? If so, There would be two avatars: a Chaos Avatar and an Order Avatar. furthermore, Raava being cut off from all avatars before Korra puts the next future avatars on equal footing; They both only have one past life to pull off of when in the avatar state, or for wisdom. With the rapidly advancing technologies In the earth kingdom and abroad, Idealogical quandries will crop up, which leaves an interesting position for these two new avatars: one will be pulled towards Chaos, and another towards Order. However, as it is stated at the start of every episode of Korra; "only the avatar can master all four elements, and bring balance to the world" which outlines the avatar's purpose as bringing Balance. Why would it not be the same for a world with two avatars in it? They must debate and fight to bring balance to the world, each representing an opposing yet equally necessary force, with equal spiritual might. These two new avatars would be eternal rivals, but also possibly work together; Fighting at times but agreeing at others to find the best and most balanced way to bring both the essential forces of chaos and order to a balanced stat in all four nations.
I would Love to hear your thoughts on this matter, and politely request a response.
I really liked that you defined your idea of two avatars being order an chaos and not evil and good. If they did that it would be really cool to see them explore order versus chaos where if written well would be a great discussion of strengths and weaknesses of both. In short this sounds wicked cool.

And everything else wonderful about the series, one episode at a time, with only ONE WEEK per episode. _Zuko Alone_ was made entirely in ONE. WEEK. *_without_* an entire studio behind it. With modern day's vast acceptance of the series, funding from above, and a united, seperate avatar studio, as well as months to plan ahead, any new avatar content can be THAT. MUCH. BETTER. In my personal opinion, it WILL live up to the hype.

It makes sense, a highly or tightly compacted/bended pocket of air would explode when ignited. And considering the giant swamp full of jungle like vegetation, the amount of free oxygen in the air is probably significantly higher in this alternate reality.
i actually think airbenders might actually be capable of doing it.
It was also brought to my attention that combustion bending is practically invisible (except the small sparkles of fire) and only makes itself known when it reaches its destination. Combustion Bending is the sniper elite of the Avatar world.
I never liked this kind of bending. It seems far too overpowered. The only reason no one was killed out of the main cast was plot armor. It's like having a tank built in to your head.
Yeah but it has an obvious weak point. An the two only users of combustion bending were killed using that weak point.
And the combination of deep breathing and keeping a focus on your target seems to limit movement and makes you open and vulnarable to sneak attacks.

If i was in the avatar universe i would 100% want to be a combustion bender. Its the most unique style of bending, especially with how Pli used her bending.
I think being able to curve the direction of the blast, use fire bending as defensive redirection and add chakra blocking martial arts would be a powerful way of fighting
