In Korra, they gave that State for Free to Korra (as with so much else) and that was A Huge Mistake that spawned even more Big Mistakes. After that, the Avatar State was Weak.
It meant Nothing. And of course. It had to mean nothing. Otherwise the Protagonist would be Invincible or something.
In the End, the Writers, bad as they are, just written themselves into an Epic Corner.
The Avatar State was Great in The Last Airbender, but it was a Book-Example for Bad Writing in Legend of Korra.

Real fans remember the commercial about Aang who hasn’t cleaned his room in over 100 years 😂💀
Wait that ackully happend
OMG. I totally remember that. It was the commercial that showed all the drawings made by kids, right?
Well that's kinda true
Once Aang goes avatar state, he's basically a demigod... blood bending doesn't even work on him... he's basically invincible against everything (except lightning)
Probably would have been invincible against the lightning too if he’d been aware of it. Azula was able to get him with that because she hit him with a cheap shot in the back when he was awakening. If he’d finished the process and started wrecking the s*it of everyone there, the combined efforts of Azula, Zuko and the Dai Li wouldn’t have been enough to bring him down.

@@saram7126 you do know they were talking about when he's in the avatar state?
If Korra is in the spirit world does that mean she can find all of her past lives and reconnect them individually back to the avatar state. Because although they are all the same being they each have individual souls.
I really hope that's true but since all the past avatars are a part of ravaa i.e avatar = (human spirit + light spirit) , when ravaa died the past lives disappeared 😭. Or they can be in the avatar clouds if it exists
I
They never specified that the past lives’ souls were destroyed. They just said the connections to them were broken. So it would be believable that they still exist somewhere in the spirit world just like Iroh does.
Raava was the one that made it possible to still remember the Avatars' past life because she remembered for them. If she momentarily died so the memories dies too
Sadly no.
@@michaellyle859
That doesn't mean it is possible to reforge the broken connections.
I never use this phrase but, when Rava said, "We are bonded forever" I honestly got chills.
Yeah, I regularly go back just to watch Wan's episodes because they're SO EPIC.
Just realized that One For All is just the avatar state but with strength rather than bending
Don't you mean One For All?
they are very similar, but I'd say the avatar state is like playing a video game while all previous avatars sit by the current avatar's side and telling him what to do, and all the little cheats and tricks they learnt during their lifetime about the game, while one for all is like a box that's given from one person to another, while each person that gets it put his quirk in it, until he gives it off to someone else who will also put his quirk in it, but now he can use both the quirks in the box. that's how i interpret it at least.

I would like to see a sequel series where the Avatar has to reconnect with their past lives through research and spiritual training. It would be a great way to show the fans the stories of the past avatars through this kind of framing device.
It would be interesting. Just because the connection is broken doesn’t mean their souls are gone. Could be an interesting journey through the spirit world to track down their souls and reconnect with each of them. (Look for the water tribe one near the face stealer, I’d bet that’s where he is)

@@rainbowquartz9513 I know why they did it, but it just felt like they needed to arbitrarily depower Korra in some way after season one's Deus Ex Machina. Also it kinda prevents us from getting anymore of that sweet Avatar lore in the future too. :C

I bet she still could if she trained enough, she’s never been a very spiritual person. I kinda see it how like how vaatu said rava was gone and then korra found her again, via ginora.

If the avatar state can resist blood bending, does that mean that a previous avatar could blood bend and overpower it like katara did
Probably not, I imagine that hundreds of liftimes of experience probably came across something similar, and learned to counter it. I also imagine a more adept waterbender who at the very least knows what's happening can resist, if not overpower the bloodbending, as Katara did. That also wasn't the first time Aang encountered bloodbending, and knowing it was a 'weakness', was ready for it, although not strong enough alone, did need the help of previous avatars who were also master water benders
It's consider extremely malicious, I doubt an avatar would ever use it for any reason
It's just overpowering it....avatar state is too powerful this can't be controlled plus it's a combination of all the past life's resisting so it's like trying to bloodbend 1000people at once
Bloodbending can be resisted by a stronger WATERBENDER, not a BLOODBENDER. Katara refused to learn bloodbending initially, and she resisted Hama's bloodbending before she was forced to bloodbend. So Aang's avatar state resisting bloodbending is not definitive proof of a past avatar knowing to do so.

Honestly this is one of the reasons why I was, and still am a bit salty about how royally they screwed this concept in Legend of Korra. It was downgrade to a cheap powerup that Korra didn't even earn but was given to and subsequently lost.
Yes definitely you have no idea how sad that was
Aang REALLY put the avatar cycle in jeopardy. He could've have died anytime in that cycle and no one would have any idea the avatar was gone
Thank you! Korra was a lot more conservative with her usage of the state, which is what the avatar is supposed to be doing anyways!
Most of times wasn't because he wanted too but because he was either force into the state (by Roku, the Ocean spirit and that crazy Earth Kingdom General), or because he was extremely angered (when he found out who stole Appa). Even then, people feared it and would get away when he went into the Avatar state. The only time he put himself in jeopardy was when he decided it'd be a good time to master it in the Crossroads of Destiny and got shot down by Azula.
@@tidepods5506 I was really referring to when he was in the iceberg

@@menkirdennis6686 A fan of the original, as all should be.
I honestly think that the writers through the legend of korra take the audience through a little bit of a spiritual journey in which they teach us not to become attached even to the avatar and the avatar state. The past is the past; go forward - I feel them saying.
pretty literally. When Korra connected the spirit world and the physical world she learned she had to accept change not necessarily as good or bad but as something different
Slice!! It's been awhile😃
And yeah the Avatar State is like Godzilla to the last resort to save everyone and destroy ONE enemy
It was for Aang. Other Avatars had a lot more control and could use if very controlledly, like a scalpel. Or just to cheat at airscooter racing.
A godzilla ad played too.
@@Carabas72 That was because of their experience, it was shown that Roku didn't master it until he learned all four elements and that took him a few years. While I have no proof of this, I'm sure that the avatar state was similar for most avatars when first starting out. With the exception of Wan.

I enjoyed the dark story of the legend of Korra but I hate how they ruined the whole concept of the avatar and the origin of bending... everything was so mythical in TLA
Wtf is wrong with you tlok was amazing
trolladas - nebulous The Legend of Korra is really good but it’s not amazing. Personally I think each seasons story is pretty good but the way some stuff was executed was pretty bad... Korra losing to the dark avatar, the origin of the avatar, the fast modernization with the mechs ...
But since the avatar spirit was restored, does that mean the next avatar would only be able to talk with korra, essentially restarting the entire avatar cycle, or is the ability to reconnect with new past lives utterly gone? Also, I was okay with the legend of korra up until they killed the avatar spirit.
I believe it is completely gone, if i remember correctly avatar korra writes letters to the next avatar
@@hz7739 well Korra wrote letters just incase it’s completely gone they never confirmed if it was or wasn’t
i would say yes every single future avatar can still talk the the past avatars up to korra but starting from wan to aang they can no longer connect to them, their spirit lives in the spirit world but they can no longer connect to the future avatars
To the title, I mean, duh. Thanks for making a video about the avatar state though.
Seff Plays that’s what I thought too
7:45, aang only used his airbending, but he was close to the south pole and the water freezed because of the cold air inside it
I like to think that the Avatar state has just...rebooted. Korra can still use it, and it'll grow stronger with each incarnation again, but everything will just start from scratch.
And let's not forget that this new Avatar cycle is stronger than the previous one since Wan fused with a much weaker (nearly dead) Raava while she fused with Korra in her peak of power.
The Avatar cycle reminds me of Midoriya’s One for All Quirk. Both abilities are able to grow more powerful with each new user and allow them to contact past users of the ability.
not to mention the *Scar Twins*
What I like the most about the Avatar state is how it combines all the experiences of previous Avatars. That in in on itself is an extremely powerful ability. Just imagine having access to experiences and skills of thousands of already very skilled men who came before you and who in combination dealt with more situations than anybody else in the world ever could have.
Korra's lost of the Avatar chain of command, to me, is a lesson in being taught to let go.

The only thing I like about korra past raava being sucked out of her is that her avatar state seems beastial in nature because theres no previous masters to draw from and the result is raw power being controlled by a young avatar who has succumbed to rage.
You must understand that it was the most perfect moment in book 2 for lok as the finale was all about idenity, which is a nornal thing to go thorugh as a young adult, and now that she grew to understand that her idenity is not is she defined by her past lives but herself, in my opinion with Korra having no past lives makes her unique and outs emphises on ‘legend’ that she now has to do everything by herself and she changed more things about the world then most avatars. I like how the creators are develiping the idenity of Korra and i think thats what i love about the show, this is because i watched Legend Of Korra first then ATLA, but atla never stuck onto me because of thr order
Yeah Korea’s legend is her struggle, she went through a lot and manages to build herself back up from it.

This video gave me goosebumps. Awesome work man!!! I agree. The Avatar state is the greatest gift to the Avatar. So powerful. And I love how their battles with their enemies results with the Avatar demonstrating the intense power they possess.
Ok guys since I love avatar time to ask a question a what if situation. What if at the end of the series anng had killed the firelord? How would the series be different both in real world and in the world of avatar? We need a video about this
I always imagined that it would have drastically changed Aang's personality - maybe not right away, but over time - as I think he would be haunted by it, and would also feel he'd lost some of his connection to his Air Nomad values. By the time he became an adult I think he would have been a very different person. And who knows how many repercussions that might have had?
I think it would have had quite a few different rather grim repercussions.
First of all Aang would have lost his ways.
Some might say that he would have finally accepted his role as the avatar and done what was nessesary. I however disagree.
If Aang had killed the firelord he would have no longer been Aang anymore since he would have given in to what others wanted him to do and be..instead of what he was.
It would leave him hollow and would have never made him unable to ever reconnect with himself since he would forever hate himself.
In other words I believe he would have distanced himself from his current life (Like he did in the books with his previous) and thereby distanced himself from all his lifes leaving him an empty husk.
Now that is what I believed would have happened to Aang.
What would have happened to the world would be just as dark.
The war would have been won but the death of the firelord would have most likely made him into a war hero.
The firenation would have agreed that easily to what happened to their leader and would have kept the war going costing many more lifes and most likely made it almost impossible for the 4 nations to ever live in peace together.
Zuko would never be accepted as the firelord and would have never been able to control it..simply because it would no longer just be seen as the firelord having been defeated in his own game and even spared by the Avatar that could have killed him...but rather an unfair battle that had the bloodthirsty Avatar kill off their leader.
I know Uncle Iroh said it had to be the Avatar who defeated the firelord..but notice he said defeat him..never kill.
That is my take on it at least.
@@bibbobella interesting I was also thinking something along the lines of the fire nation not giving up and accepting zuko what do you think our reaction was n the real world would have been? Would we view the series the same way, as one of the greatest series of all time(at least in my opinion) or would we view it differently?
@@skydragonslayer9820 Hmm tough to say really.
Now it would without a doubt have been a hell of a jump for the series and I feel like it would have destroyed more than a few of the important messages that the show was giving us but I am not certain it would have nessesarily been hated.
Some people would have disagree with it (myself included) but it would have been exstremely ballsy and even somewhat respectable to actually have the unwilling protagonist actually kill the firelord.
The deus ex machina that they kinda threw in with energy bending could have been handled better but I don't believe killing the firelord would end up being better in the end.
It would have a huge shock factor from the first viewing but after that be seen as nothing more than a simple attempt at shock value.
I don't believe it would have destroyed the show but it would have been an unfitting end to Aang's story arc and would have taken way more away from the show than add to it.
For starters, he wouldnt have the ability to take away bending, wich has majors consequenses to Tlok. But as well as hes own personal values and his self image. Interesting topic

Also another fantastic video love avatar an Korra my favorite series ever keep up these great videos! I love them!
Nice to see fellow fans that are still out there
One of the things I really like about this transformation is that its bot only a power boost, but it is predicated on the concept of the combined knowledge of hundreds of people. No other series I can think of works this way, and I really like the uniqueness of the concept.
I really like that people still talks about the show. Thanx!
The avatar state is pretty much god mood
I really don't get why people are so pissed off about Korra loosing her connection to her last lives. Wan didn't had them and he went by pretty fine. She regained something that the other avatars didn't have, her connection to Raava (actually being able to talk to Raava).
I also can't see how they "retconed" the AS just because now it's ALSO implied that in the AS the Avatar is calling upon Raava's power. That doesn't exclude the fact the Raava is the fucking hard drive that stored all of the extra information that a fucking regular human can't. A regular human can't have access to it's previous life's memories, because they don't even reincarnate. I just see raava as a means to explain why the Avatar is what it is. It's a human spirit (Wan) fused with Raava, the ultimate spirit of light. And the past lives aren't other spirits, they are Wan, but reincarnated thus having different consciences, and Raava stores these past consciences inside her along with the elements so the next Avatar will have access to previous knowledge.
Is it so hard to understand that the Avatar power come from two different sources and that's why it's so fucking op? They gain a boost from Raava pure light plus their past lives knowledge. Korra is somewhat buffed and nerfed at the same time. Raava is at her peak, since Vaatu is gone for now she's literally almighty now, so Korra have access to far more brute power than the other avatars, but she is lacking the refined power, that being the past lives knowledge. This one will beging to stack again from her onwards and the future avatars will be waaaaay more powerful than the past ones ever would be able to be.
@jay 1 most of them are pissed because for them somehow Raava being the explanation takes away the mysticism, the spiritual aspect of the Avatar. While I see that it only explain why everything happened and how only one human is able to reincarnate and bend all 4 elements.
Somethings I agree that are best left unexplained, like how I rather they haven't explained the origin for Joker on the Joker movie, but in Avatar's case fits perfectly for me.
Korra will have her raw Raava power, and the next avatars until vaatu starts to grow again. Because he can never be destroyed, just diminished if raava wins the battle. Im sure its another kind of cycle, just on a 10k year cycle. The raw power goes down as the knowledge power increases until the next battle with vaatu.
But like @jay 1 says it is still kinda strange how the avatar can just bend so much more of an element when in avatar state. That's probably due to raava's power
@@infragrayscale but even if the brute power Raava provides becomes less and less, in the end it will be more than it was when Wan fused with Raava. At the time Raava fitted into a tea pot, now, even if Vaatu returns, Raava will just return to it's regular power and size.
True Wan didn't have any last lives. Only Raava. But then again, having all those past lives is such a great gift to the Avatar. I personally was angry when this happened, but it was out of her control (in a way). Drawing wisdom from their past lives is so useful, but it also provides the Avatar with guidance and great advice about how to move forward with maintaining peace. But I'm hoping that this feature doesn't end with Korra. That having the past live feature continue. And what's great is that she knows energy bending and that knowledge will be passed on to the next Avatar. I'm certain the Avatar Cycle will always continue to impress, grow stronger and endure. Love: Me :P
@jay 1 Great minds think a like am I right🐣I appreciate that Korra, even though she was not at fault tried hard to redeem herself. And what was really fascinating for me was how she took energy bending to the next level. We all saw how Aang bent Ozais energy, but Korra definitely displayed the true power of the Avatar. And she did this without the help of the past avatars. I am grateful for the way she made up for what happened in the past and as you said it made her stronger. She isn't Aang, we can all agree, but her character definitely shows us how worthy she is to be an Avatar and why she was the next reincarnation of Aang.
I hope the next Avatar after Korra manages to re-connect with his or her past lives because they never said that the past Avatars were destroyed, only severed.
Thank you for another amazing Video.

Korra

Imagine the next firebending avatar learning combustion with tattoos , going into the avatar state
Bruh your vids are so informative !
I think it's fitting that Korra has to begin the avatar state again. When Wan sealed the spirit world away all other Avatars dealt with a segreated world. Spirts, and humans separated with the Avatar being the bridge for then. Now with the world's intertwined once more the Avatar is not the bridge between worlds anymore. Being instead a peacekeeper. Having Korra who intertwined them be the first Avatar in the new cycle is really poetic.
Given that mastery of the avatar state requires them to maintain their individually amongst all the others present whilst in the avatar state, could it be argued that as the cycle continues it would be more difficult to master it? It could also be seen as increasingly dangerous, like a bomb using all 4 elements massively at the same time, with no control.
one thing you can look at the severing of the avatar from the past in book two of Korra. Is the start of a new cycle.
Damn, everytime I get into a new franchise, videos of it start popping up from recent times.

Even though Korra’s connection to the past avatars were severed its actually still so crazy the incredible displays of power she made in book 3&4. Any time she went into the avatar state after book 2 was all her own power and THAT is wildly impressive you have to admit.
No that as only bad writing
@@ricardosnowbacks6404 That not bad writing at all. Lok was great show. Korra bending physical energy showed how far she came and grew on her spiritual side, not bad writing.
The writers said Korra avatar state isn't weaken. Every avatar has same amount of power in avatar state. Korra still has same amount of power but just lost her past lives. But she does have more raw power since the new Ravaa is stronger than the old cycle.
Ricardo Snowbacks How? She is the start of a brand new avatar cycle, so was Wan when he first fused with Raava and he was able to defeat the embodiment of evil without the power of the past avatars, so that was his own power just like Korra after book 2.
Your avatar videos are so sick! You should do some on iron fist and the other 7 immortal weapons, that’d be so good 🤙🏽
I love this concept so dearly
KORRA WAS KOOL UNTIL THEY SEVERD HER CONNECTION TO THE PAST AVATARS THAT WAS THE DUMBEST THING EVER
Exactly my thought. This is the most worst thing happened in the Avatar World. I hope a new series of a new Avatar will find a way to reconnect to Aang and the latter previous lives of the avatar
Its not that bad
@@Lowkidoe29 it really is tho, possibly the worst thing to happen to an avatar/the entire cycle
But wasnt it like destined to happen or smth
@@takemeaway5548 i think so, cause at that temple with all those statues of the avatars, Aang was the last one
The severing Of the past Avatars in the Legend Of Korra is to me the most disappointing event to happen in the show.
I thought it made it more fascinating. Korra couldn't rely on other Avatars anymore. Then her being crippled and traumatized by Zaheer is even more tragic because with the combined power of past lives, she could have beaten Zaheer and recovered quickly. But because the connection was severed, she didn't have that option. It was interesting to watch her struggle with those things alone. And the fact that she was still able to pull Zaheer to the ground in the middle of a tornado while being poisoned, all without the help of the other Avatars, shows how truly powerful she is.
Sidney Goodrich I see your point, without the experience of the past avatars, Korra became much more self-reliant.
When Aang needed guidance or wisdom he would call upon his past lives. Sadly Korra lost this luxury, she was alone and had to face challenges without guidance.
The reason I think I hate severing so much, is because I can’t stand to live with the fact that the spirits of the past avatars are gone, erased, as if they meant nothing.
And what really irks me is that I just found out that this doesn’t just stand Korra, I heard that even the avatars after her will be unable to speak with their past lives.
It’s an injustice, they were so helpful, so enlightening, it’s unfair to Korra and to the avatars after her, they will never be able to seek upon the wisdom of those before them.
I liked TLOK, even though many people do not, but the one thing I’ll never forgive, is taking away Aang .😔
@@dylanpastore where did you hear that Avatars after Korra cannot speak with their past lives? My impression was that since Raava got reborn, that means the Avatar cycle will restart. So basically Korra is the first Avatar of the new cycle (like Wan) and all the Avatars after her will be connected cuz Raava will be within all of them. This is the first time I've heard that this will affect future Avatars.
@@Thief555WWJD Of course it will affect future avatars if they cannot connect to the older wiser ones, all they will have to rely on is Korra.
I actually think it makes it better because she can find knowledge from other people instead of old avatars
may i just say that your outro music is so magical that your videos are the only ones where i view the video from 0:00 till the very. last. second 😩
I really love your Avatar videos...
The best feats in avatar state
Wan creating an elemental orb while on tornado.
Yang Chen creating hurricane winds.
Kuruk creates a massive wave.
Kyoshi creates her own island.
Roku bends lava from a volcano.
Aang elemental sphere while gliding in the air.
Korra bending physical energy creating a spirit portal.
Dark Avatar Unalaq creates huge ice spikes and riding water spout at full speed.
Best Aang feat: after the Ozai fight, after he has finally mastered the Avatar state, he just casually switched it on, effortlesly raises the entire sea level to put out some fires raging across the country, and then calmly just releases it again. That's way better than an element sphere.
@@Carabas72 I liked the element sphere
Don't forget about the avatar before yangchen was able to bend the magma out of the volcano
@@mr.kingofphenomenal4629
I like it too, but it's not the most powerful thing he ever did.
@@cactusjack1381 Oh yeah. I forgot about Avatar Jafar.
I love your vioce bro :3
I've been going through TLA lore videos as part of my Avatar Yangchen cosplay and was thrilled to find someone producing content so recently as, well, this very month. I share your frustration over Korra losing the connection to past avatars; I like history and backstory, so it felt devastating. Truthfully, however, although I enjoyed the Korra series, for me it's not on the same level as TLA, and I think your videos on special bending techniques and how prevalent they now are made me realize why that is.
Anyway, rambling aside, I look forward to future Avatar videos you make!
please keep coming back with more avatar videos!!! Netflix is gonna release their own avatar series too with the original directors, cant wait omg
I Love Avatar the Last Airbender, But I would Love To See you Continue the Queens Of Mewni Series Before Star Vs The Forces of Evil Ends
Is it ending soon?
@@chrishansen1842 Yes, It's ending in about two weeks
As for the number of times you said avatar: 71
so drinking game? xD
I know this is not exactly related, but i love how the concept of the avatar does the 'chosen one trope' quite well.
Love this! Hopefully it doesn't get demonetized like a lot of AtLA videos
Are you gonna research Energy bending
Like with the Lion turtles
Legend of Korra was cool until aang's connection was severed
what kind of logic are you using lmao when was Aang’s connection severed ? If you mean Korra’s connection that’s all she lost lmao she didn’t lose any power to the avatar state. At the end of book 2 they clearly show her fusing with a much bigger and powerful raava making her avatar state stronger
@@christianmugisha7933 Where was it said that a bigger raava makes her avatar state stronger than any of the past avatars? Like i’m genuinely wondering?
@@julianmuhhamad4562 your confused if you think they made Korra’s avatar state weak for the plot of book 3 😂 there is a reason why Unalaq’s AS overpowered Korra’s. When Unalaq removed raava from korra she was small and the end of book 2 after Korra raava was bigger
@@christianmugisha7933 How am I confused when I literally never even said that? Also you didn’t even answer my question I asked where it was said that a bigger raava would make her avatar state stronger than the past avatars? Also that was during harmonic convergence.
@@christianmugisha7933 um idk Idk if your a clear fan but RAAVA was destroyed which severed the connection to the past avatar forever now there might be a way to get it back but the future avatars can now only speak as far as khora they can’t talk to aang or Chanel the past avatars only just khora and raava and I guess themselves
2:32 FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE SAID IT YES IVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR FOREVER
I miss your videos. Hope you make more soon!
