I liked it, used to have one when I was a little boy and now my little boy wants one. the ants arrived by post, drugged! You shake them out into their little world and they build all those tunnels. I think the brown spot is waste. All mine died in the end, no queen and the workers only live so long.
well, its about day 8 and I think the ants can handle it now! thanx 4 the help though! last night they made 3 tunnels in the same axact spot and the other half was un explored so I got a flash light and pointed it from theun explored area and they followed it! they're exploring that entire half now!
Correction, the worker ants lay eggs all the time even when the queen is alive, they feed them to the queen, if there is no queen then they will hatch if your lucky a new queen will be born.
If consider that civilization is something upon which we depend, not only for our sustenance but for our identity and knowledge also, and if you consider that we mostly live in huge cities connected by roads, which link myriad chambers for different activities, then in a way we are all ants. We don't notice really, so used to it, but we each lay a few grains of sand or dig part of a tunnel in our lives, it all adds up over generations to the biggest ant heap of all. your wish came true LOL
I ordered my ants off the internet so i have 25. they just started digging some more. I think they naturally go through this phase because its winter even if its not cold. probobly to save energy. it doesn't get cold in the winter where i live (california)
Hey, genius idea!!! Never would've thought of time lapsing an ant farm! May I recommend recording both sides of the ant farm, and then presenting it in a split- screen?
Well the thing is you really do want to have a Queen within your ant farm so they have a goal and some kind of direction. Without a Queen and no place to deliver the food they will just keep eating everything untill they die.
u can catch it,im a singaporean i walk along in the streets of woodlands and i can see many ant nests and i took a walk in the park the ants said hi to me cos im good

What I think you're trying to say is that these farms are stupid because they don't include Queen Ants. Well that's because that is illegal. You need to catch queens yourself.
black ones r better, i used the website AntsAlive to get mine, they dug very well, just took like 30 hours till they started digging, u have to understand for most ants, blue gel is an alien substance so they have to get used to it
@charliebell01 you shouldn´t use gel...use sand or earth...the gel is just for a few days...then they need buck oder something and honey-water (the most species) ....
u should at least find 20 or if u dont want to waste time dig a small hole near an ant farm and get one of those things that holds the dirt stick the spade near some ant eggs put them in the ant farm and an ant for every egg exept just get three more than u need
pretty sure its not a video file, its pictures...taken like every minute or so, or longer like an hour. Then its just put together in a video editing program.
So if you wan't to see a battle ground.. red ones.. If you want to see cooperation, and team work.. Black ones.. Now I have a question some of you guys might find sick :P Which ones TASTE better.. I am curious of entomophagy.. I am thinking a ant farm might be fun to watch.. AND good eats.. entomophagy
No you don't need a queen, go pick up like 40 ants and the ants are gonna live for sure , if they dont maybe u can put a black paper around the farm.(Remove it to look at your farm).

Yea, the gel is edible and gives them the water they need too. You don't have to feed or water them.

They don't get protein from the gel, so even with a queen, no new ants unless you put insects for them to eat in there.

No, well, it depends of the specie but if you have thse same as on most of the websites : the queen will be replaced but it will no more make eggs..

i got antworks in antworks u dont feed them the special blue ingredient in there gives them there water and food when they eat it
i had one of those but after a couple weeks a had about 5 living and a big pile of dead ants in the corner
