Agreed. But as Chase had touched upon this in his Dice assessment I believe before iinm, most non Japanese bands' general fault = overly cautious. As an ex active bassist meself (lol that's about 20 years ago), this is very very true when you deal with songwriters/guitarists as their general tendency is to "save" or hold riffs sometimes accumulated to the extent that it'd be discarded altogether before the next write-up. And the beauty of Japan's rock music scene is I'm just gonna go ahead and say it; it's the geo/cultural complex that they're fully aware of and have mastered over the years. That Japanese way of innovating, we all gotta admit that. They know full well about borrowed cultures therefore they're never afraid of melting the elements together in a pot and see what sticks. So wonderful that that's precisely why they seem to have a band in every extremes of a genre + sub genres' spectrum, I don't think it's even humanly possible for us rest of the world to ever "run out of choices".
As a former professional bass player Misa always blows me away. There are so many parts of the song than just about any other musician would keep to straight 8th or 16th on the base tone and it would sound great. Misa? I'm not sure she is able to not be creative. The thing that really blows me away is that it doesn't get messy or muddle up the sound, it just adds another dimension. Despite me coming from a more jazz/fusion kind of background where technical ability is a lot more in focus than rock generally I've got a hard time thinking of anyone else playing like she does. Even guys like Victor Wooten have to restrain themselves for "the greater good" of the song. The saying less is more is the truth most of the times as a bassist. Knowing what and when Not to play is usually what sets really good bassists apart from the more normal once. Somehow Misa doesn't have to fit in to that description. Where I would mute she does a run that almost makes it a part of the rhythm guitar instead. I find it hard to describe just how good she really is. To me she is one of the best rock bass players I've ever heard in my 42 year long life. There are more technical, more precise, more just about anything. But there are very few that's got the creativity, the groove and the "thinking outside of the box" style she has got. She and Akane are one of the best rhythm sections I know of no matter what genre.
"Where I would mute she does a run that almost makes it a part of the rhythm guitar instead. " In some ways, MISA IS the rhythm guitar. Back when they were essentially a power trio (before Miku learned to play guitar), her playing had to fill in the sound behind Kanami, and that kind of established their sound. Now that Miku is a competent rhythm guitar player, MISA playing the way she does just adds to the sonic density of their songs. Beautiful.
Hello from Malaysia and a fellow "low end" brethren here just a couple of years younger ;) Couldn't have added anything more to your feedback it's all on point.
As others pointed out MISA WAS the "rhythm guitar" in the early days on the bass, so I'm sure that had alot to do with her development. Another thing, she started out on guitar. She was the lead guitarist for a previous project to Band Maid, & she is (with Akane) professionally trained. So, she approaches the bass as a guitar player, not just a bassist... Another example of this was the late great Cliff Burton, who had a VERY similar background to MISA.(musically progression speaking)
Other songs that are seriously recommended: "Alone" (their first permitted self-written song which set them on their current trajectory), and "Secret My Lips" FOLLOWED BY "Secret Maiko Lips", in that order specifically. You're gonna love all three, I promise!
I'd love a double "Secret My Lips" vs "Secret MAIKO Lips" ... I've been shouting out loud for a BAND-MAIKO reaction... it could also be a double Band-Maiko "Gion-Cho" & "Secret MAIKO Lips"...
They are the most beautiful, amazing, creative and absolutely fearless band on the planet. They truly are a super group. Kanami is a musical prodigy !!!!! Amazing vocals, and the most incredibly tasty and inventive drummer and bass player combination. Just fucking amazing!! II am a 68 year old former jazz fusion prog rock drummer and these girls have lit musical fire in me. These amazing girls have renewed my love of real music
According to the girls, this is the first song where they sort of tried a new songwriting process. Kanami asked all the girls to give her a melody, which she incorporated/put together and came up with the demo for this song. After that was their usual process. MISA and Akane rearrange their own parts, Miku goes to Write the lyrics and make edits to vocal melody and then it gets put together and Miku and Saiki do the final QC before song is finalized.
You want to have your mind blown! Watch an interview with them. They don't act at all like I expected. Except for the bass player, she sips whiskey neat during all the shows
Yea this one is my favorite song of BAND-MAID it has everything. 👉 Akane: wicked drumming thru out the song. 👉 Kanami: insane guitar solo. 👉 Saiki / Miku: Vocal harmonizing. 👉 MISA: Bass breakdown. 👉 Breakdown section at the end. Overall a Masterpiece! *Blooming the gateway drug of BAND-MAID!!!*
I believe this to be one of their best songs to date. I just love the frantic build up before the break where all four (drums, bass, rhythm & lead) are all just going off, then the bottom drops out and you get the beautiful vocal melody. Then at the end you get that vocal melody & harmony on top of the frantic play. Just brilliant! I hope with the online concert we get a NEW song, that would make my day! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶💖🙂
I'm just going to keep saying it: I'm constantly amazed at how good their music makes me feel. On top of how musically adept they all are, BAND-MAID makes me feel so happy with almost all of their songs (excepting the one or two that aren't meant to), and yet it's so far removed from the typical bubblegum pop you'd associate with happy music. Geniuses, these 5 women are all musical geniuses.
Seems like some fans were a bit disappointed by Conquerer but over the past few weeks it's become clear to me that it's a masterpiece. Every song is great. Even the poppier moves I was initially a little unsure about (Page, At The Drop of A Hat) are absolutely brilliant songs. I've never had a more intense love affair with a band before. They are pure magic.
PAGE is just flat out amazing. First time I heard it was “meh,” and now it’s one of my favorites. I had a similar reaction with Wonderland. My disappointments with Conqueror are issues with the mixing and mastering. The songs themselves are fantastic!
pretty much my feelings exactly. I wasn't too into The Dragon Cries either but I have finally surrendered to its charms. And yes Page is just a gorgeous song and it took me months to give it a real chance and realize it. Just that simple "move on, move on" hook makes the song. Same with Wonderland, it took a while and now it just blows me away. As good as Just Bring It is.....World Domination and Conquerer are basically perfect albums without a single subpar track. I guess I'm getting used to the overcooked mastering enough to look past it. It's truly astounding how great this band is.
"Wonderland" is my favorite Band-Maid song, and _Conqueror_ as a whole is such a perfect album that I really can't choose between it, _World Domination,_ and _Just Bring It._ (Though _JBI_ definitely wins in the cover art department.) Band-Maid's worst is better than most bands' best.
I always like it when you mention what caught your attention, no matter how many times in the song. Often it's subtle things that one usually don't notice on first listen. Blooming is jam-packed with notes and ideas that it's almost over the top on first listen. And one of the songs that especially benefits from repeated listening. Thanks again for another great reaction. Rock On! Both Puzzle versions are very good although very different. If you do both, then do it the way that suits you best.
One of my absolute favourites. The vocal harmonies after the guitar solo are just heavenly. Goosebumps every time. Can't wait for the live stream on Thursday! Oh, and please do Alone!!
Ey!! I hope I'm blown away with the live stream. I have no idea what to expect and sad I haven't seen them live yet. But with everything going on this is the best I could hope for. I just hope they still play their songs like they would live such as the additional solos in domination
sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the password. I would love any tips you can give me
@Hayden Calvin Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Oh man, no mention of you doing "Rinne" in the future? That's a KILLER song, really hope you do that one, it has some lovely quirky stuff for you to talk about :) Not sure which is better. Chase's "Here it comes, I know it's gonna be great, Yes! I love their choruses!" face, or his triumphant "I was right!" face. Will have to do more research to find out.
When doing Rinne (Reincarnation) - and I also HIGHLY recommend it! - you'll actually want the MV. There's a live version they did for a music show or something, but for the slot they were given they had to cut part of the song. The MV is the full version. Plus it's shot on Super 8 film, so is visually cool as well.
Chase at 14:31 "I hope you enjoyed this one." Yes, I enjoyed this especially your reaction at 11:58. That's gotta be the most expressive I've seen from you so far. Top notch.
I really like the direction for the video. You have 5 pretty young ladies playing, but they're about the music. The only faces you see are singing and those are usually cropped. Other than that, it is only instruments or fully shadowed figures. Brilliant.
Puzzle is great. Double Puzzle sounds fantastic. Another good double reaction for Band-Maid will be Secret My Lips followed by Band-Maiko’s Secret Maiko Lips (should be fun since you’ve already listened to Wagakki Band). Hopefully a few weeks down the road, you could do the criminally underrated YOLO. Would also love your take on their most successful rock ballad - Daydreaming.
I knew you'd love this one, Chase! This is the track with which I introduce new folks to BAND-MAID! It's the gateway 'drug'. 😎 And... Mincho is en fuego! 🤘
They don't do a lot of layered vocals, I believe it's just Miku and Saiki being great together. According to an interview, Kanami said that everyone contributed to writing parts of this song so it's representative of everyone's tastes. A warning about Puzzle: They've been aggressively taking down videos of the song, not reaction videos, but the clean versions of the live track. Right now, the only videos I see are a lyrics video that uses the live audio, a "live" video that chops up the live and studio versions and messes with the tempo (avoid it's called like "puzzle - fan" or something), and a fancam. The rest of the ones I see are reactions and covers. It's an amazing song, but they're doing their best to keep it off youtube :( Another warning, there's a live version of Rinne out there where they played it on TV where it's only half the song and the sound engineer didn't have a clue what he's doing so you can barely tell what they're playing. Stick to the MV for that one unless they release the live track off their most recent live DVD which is freaking awesome.
Kanami recently said that she composes using something she calls 'The Gap', which she says makes the song more interesting for the listener. She explained it as being the different ways she writes the verses and chorus; the verse is usually made for the instrumental part to showcase their musicianship while the chorus is made for the vocal part and the melody to shine.
yea false breaks.. they change it up a lot within a song. in the song dice they do a 3/4 step and in the next verse its a 4/4 break.. kinda fucks with your head when playing their songs on instruments. but its so fresh..
As they explained in an interview, "Blooming" is a collaborative composition. For example, a gentle, vocal duet with Saiki is the work of Miku. MISA wrote the intro, but as she said, she was not happy with it because she was probably, as she said, a little drunk while writing. In my opinion she compensated for this with some excellent bass licks, for example with this - 11:45
@@Puyax01 Yes, probably her slight dissatisfaction with the written intro made the entire bass line in this song virtuoso :) Even for MISA, which usually doesn't go below the stellar level. It's just that sound mixing in this song pushes her bass to the threshold of audibility.
Via Verde I can’t listen to the Conqueror album without adding some serious EQ to boost the bass. They really buried it in the mix for some strange reason.
Via Verde I also did some “declipping” to try and help that. There’s a torrent out there with the declipped and EQed version that’s the best I could do. It sounds a lot better to my ears.
bought my ticket...... won't be there for the actual live stream.... it will have to wait till I finish work. But , yeah.... These ladies are smart, Very smart. Kanami (Lead guitarist and main songwriter) gave the girls an assignment to come up with a riff or a melody.........and this is the end result she wrote. One of my favorite B-M songs.
Will it be available to watch afterward? I know for their RUclips streams earlier this year, they took the videos down very shortly after the sessions closed. If it's something I can come back to, it's worth buying a ticket, but if I can only see it by being up at three in the morning, I'm going to have to pass.
Thank you for a nice reaction It`s very difficult for me to catch all your comment Still I became to pay attention to details this band put in their music and bought a bluraydisc of their recent gig to check other live performances which are not uploaded to youtube Greetings from Japan
Finally!!!! "Blooming". I'm sure there have been more than a few of us MAIDIACS waiting a long time for you to experience this masterpiece. I've got my ticket for BAND-MAID ONLINE OKYU-JI and can't wait for the 23rd.
Bandmaid cares a LOT about the listener. Its a huge part of their songwriting. They're very aware of their global reach and the fact that their audience is mostly english speakers, so they try to incorporate more English into their songs as well as just catchy melodies. Often you'll see people react to a song like domination and love the hard rock feel, but hate the hello part in the chorus bc they feel it takes a poppy turn. But they do that stuff on purpose so non japanese speakers have a chance to sing along and interact with the song. They really just try to appeal to everybody who listens to their music and you're right, you dont see that in a lot of bands these days, and a lot of bands dont take criticism well and love to say "its our music, we'll do what we want, dont listen if you dont like it". So its hard to not really appreciate bandmaid for their writing
I keep thinking the perfect band t-shirt would read: BAND-MAID "We will do our very best." It's pretty much their motto, and they live it. (I do wish they'd make subtitles standard, because Miku's lyrics get overlooked and I suspect they'd help grow the female fanbase a lot.)
Coming from a lifetime of Rush, Sabbath, Maiden, King Crimson ... I definitely hear when the 'Pop' elements appear, but I don't care. They and their songs are too much FUN. FUN has returned to Hard Rock. Like early Van Halen used to be. The Warning is another band that is just plain FUN.
So, in the spirit of "following along": is there a source for the lyrics, with the Japanese written out in romanji (latin alphabet)? it would make it so much easier to follow phonetically....
Chase dropped a new band maid video.... and a average day turned into a damn good day! So exited for their live streaming concert. Hoping for 1 or 2 new songs.
the first guitar pattern in the song (climbing up the scale) is perfectly repeated, but mirrored in the very last pattern (going down the scale). works like completing the circle,, or wrapping the perfect birthday present right before handing it over with a confident smile...
Great reaction and breakdown of the song! In my opinion, Band-Maid has a common pattern of going soft after the fireworks of Kanami's solo, then they start building the intensity again (like they do here).
For Puzzle, (IMO), If you could do a Back to Back, Live Electric/Live Accoustic of it, I think it would provide the most contrast for commentary. Solo mi dos centavos.
A big thank you. For helping to spread the word of a music that deserves recognition. And thank you for promote their online concert. Tough days for the bands we love. They need all the help we could give.
Great video as always Chase. I rarely comment but I just wanted to reiterate what others here have been saying on all of your videos - that you are absolutely the epitome of what a music reaction channel should be. You are open-minded and knowledgeable and know how to give incredible insights that very few ever touch upon. As another user mentioned, I think the band 'Ningen Isu' would be right up your alley -- song 'Heartless Scat' good place to start. As an aside, I just discovered a couple of videos where Kanami did a guitar battle with Ningen Isu's frontman Shinji Wajima. I don't exactly know what's going on in the video, but it's awesome! Battle round 1: ruclips.net/video/qXcQgAu34LM/видео.html Battle round 2: ruclips.net/video/wZqNTvV3LP4/видео.html
Another great review, I am always impressed by your breakdown of each song. I've listened to this song many times and each time I pick out something new. Band Maid somehow puts so much into each piece of music that it's impossible to take it all in with one listen. looking forward to their concert this week.
Great reaction mate! You make some of the best reaction videos on youtube now. It's nice of you to mention about their upcoming online streaming gig which will take place tomorrow, although it won't be as great as seeing them perform live in person but I still hope more people can support these talented ladies. The ticket is not expensive even for non fan club members, they deserve our supports!
SOOO looking forward to the concert. 13 hour time difference, so I "had" to take Thursday and Friday off to watch then recover. Didn't even hesitate :D
Can't wait for your reaction to The Dragon Cries but it looks like you'll hear it in the show first. As far as Puzzle, I'd love for a 2 in 1 as long as you do the ban's version before the acoustic. Have a box of tissues ready as you may shed a tear or two. Same with Anemone, it's even better. I hope you do a review of the show please.
Only seconds in to this video and you are already spot on sir! Bandmaid is all in for fan service and appreciation. I mean, it’s in the name and visual theme lol but another example is that they’ve recognized how large their western following has become (and keeps growing) and have taken to improving their English to better communicate with their non-Japanese audience, as well as a whole slew of other things they have done and continue to do. The genuinely come across as good people and I think most people can recognize that 🤗
Yes, you were right! ... is it fair to say this was a "Dice"- like structure? (Just doing my "home-work" and trying to learn the "where and hows" ) Anyway... this one was the one that "bloo" my mind and made me think that I really should stop delaying my proper listen to them... and a few months later, they really are my fav band, period. We'll be attending the same concert soon, and probably at the same time zone ( 8AM?) sad that can't meet you there and shake hands but well, it's going to be awesome, nevertheless... Great reaction, as always. Always great to listen your input, stripping it down, pausing so much (yes, I like that, I have the song, I can listen to it without pauses in my own time...) to notice those little things or those bigger things... just great.
@@FinalShadow17 For sure... not many bands can include in the same song "bad-ass" riffs, licks and killer wah-wah solos (Kanami you little goddess!) and delightful and beautiful harmonies... and then mix them together and sounding like perfection!
@@mickyart I know. I havent listened to rock since high school. It's just always the same thing. Intro, riff, chorus, same riff, chorus, possibly a solo, back to chorus, and outro. BAND-MAID doesnt do anything revolutionary. They use some basic structures in many of their songs. However, they know how to execute it so well where it's always pleasant to the ear.
Add me as another person suggesting a Puzzle double reaction, assuming you can find the live videos somewhere. They were up on YT for years, but the band’s management has been going on a streak of purging them the last couple of months. The electric version really showcases Kanami’s skills as a composer (and her playing abilities). The acoustic version goes a completely different direction and shows how powerful and emotive Saiki’s voice can be. It’s like hearing 2 completely different songs. Hope you can find these videos somewhere. Puzzle is just a top tier Band-Maid song all around, and that’s saying something, because everything they do is really high quality.
Yes another Band-Maid reaction and than to one of my favorite songs of them. The live stream tiket is allredy bought and I can't wait for it to start. Alone , Don't let me down , Don't you tell me , Before Yesterday or The non-fiction days are all song i woud love to hear your reaction to. And do the reaction to puzzle back to back in one viedeo.
Your analysis is spot on, as usual. Maybe you could have a discussion why you think Band-Maid, as great as their song writing, playing and live performance / appearance is, can't catch a break in the west - namely the USA. No radio / media exposure here (outside of a few trade rags). I've written much about it but would love to hear your reasoning. BTW - you didn't mention one of the more unique aspects to Blooming... Akane's rumba beat in a prog-pop-rock song. Maybe you could also talk about, "what the hell is their genre?", and who they appeal to - who's their bread-and-butter audience? Are they commercial, etc.? I call their genre MGR - Multi Genre Rock. Thanks, Chase.
Yet another hugely impressive reaction to Band-Maid, thank you! I'd be intrigued to see what you make of one of their quieter and more atmospheric/emotive songs, namely the magnificent Daydreaming (ruclips.net/video/RCaeUkrItyY/видео.html). That link is for the MV - there is a wonderful live version of this song which has a (pre-recorded) solo piano intro played by Kanami but, unfortunately, that's been taken down due to yet another copyright claim. Kanami has said that Daydreaming is her favourite Band-Maid song.
Once again thanks! Many others have said it, but you just add so much to our listing to good music. Most of your "reaction" videos feels like mini Masterclasses. I always get something more out of the music and hear more details after seeing your videos. I'm happy we can enjoy a concert "together" in a few days. I just hope one day to see them live at a venue.
I hope we get more of the 2020 live show uploads to youtube from their official channel. Like their live Domination, Wonderland, etc were already so great, it'll be cool if they put up Blooming, Bubble, etc. as well!
That was special-Chase-enhanced Band-Maid magic. Back to back puzzles would be a real treat. You really want the lyrics for the acoustic version. But most English versions on the net relied too much on Google translate and are wrong or incomprehensible in a lot of places. 23rd, can't wait.
For Puzzle, I think I would love to see a 2 in 1 reaction. I remember thinking "There's just so many cool, subtle, little things going on." when I first started listening to Band-Maid. Some of them still surprise me or hit me harder when I notice them again. Still so many great songs left to react to. I always watch the reactions but I am just a little more excited for Band-Maid ones, because I like seeing other people enjoying the music that has made me so happy this year as well as appreciating all the nuances of their style/playing.
Another great reaction! Just like Band-Maid they never fail to impress. So thank you. Just wanted to say thank you too for advertising their live show on Thursday. These ladies deserve all the help in the world and I hope everyone can buy a ticket (maybe pay a little extra if you can afford it) to help them out as much as possible. If you fancy a change of pace I have a traditional Japanese band to recommend. Here's the link to their song 'Gion-cho' ruclips.net/video/umSt7oMUMcs/видео.html Note: they may post on the official Band-Maid page and look remarkably similar, but they are not Band-Maid. Nope. Not one bit :)
...and another thing about Band-Maid reactions... I always come back to check out the comments, beside the regular suggestions (which could lead us to almost 90 different requests...), I also like to read about some more info about these ladies... there is always something I didn't knew before, like the composition process on this one... so, always nice to have the fans adding a little something about them!
@@ChaseCarneson yes good idea, if you do this , do the MV first and the acoustic after , it's the same lyrics but the emotions are totally different, and iam pretty sure that your comments will be interesting!
Another awesome track! You seem to be enjoying them as much as me and that makes me glad ^_^ When you mentioned "Puzzle", There is the Live acoustic, live, and studio versions. I prefer the live over the studio, the acoustic version is really nice :D Please do a two in one reaction!
I love how you do your reactions, and damn this is so informative. Even I didn't even notice something until you point it out on a certain parts! I'm grateful for that. Band maid is so awesome and you too Mr. Chase! It's so refreshing to see those reaction of yours while grooving and smiling to the happy and upbeat songs of The Legendary Ladies Band called BandMaid haha. Keep it up! Stay safe! And Rock on! I'll wait for another epic reaction thanks!
Again, your reaction enhances my appreciation of the song. I have come to really look forward to your reactions, especially with bands that I love like Band Maid. Have a great Day, this song and reaction really picked my day up. As far as Puzzle, I think doing both the regular and then accoustic in one reaction would be awesome. Both versions are live.
Love all the music within their songs. You always have something going on in the song that encourages you to listen deeper! Love Band Maid! Great reactions!
Some days ago MISA introduced her new fretless bass (4strings) with a short audio sample. I am very curious, how she will use it and how it will sound in special parts of a song. For my taste it could fit perfectly in the calm part of Blooming. Imagine the harmony singing and a sliding fretless...
Finally!!! I knew you were going to love it. Puzzle would be great if you would do it side by side. There's still Glory, Yolo and Rinne too. Cant wait for the 23rd.
What a nice video to be greeted with when logging into RUclips. There’s been some discussion about the cleverness of Miku’s lyric-writing. She apparently likes to fit a lot more Syllables into certain parts of songs than the norm (for non-rap Japanese music) and sometimes adds extra percussion and drive into the vocal melody than Kanami’s original song demo. They do stick to a pretty standard Japanese song structure so far.
Miku is one of a small group of musicians able to use certain techniques to write Japanese lyrics for Western style rock music. The Japanese language is inherently difficult to write lyrics with because of how it is spoken. Miku uses techniques to create syllables where there normally wouldn't be any, yet still make it understandable. The woman is a technical and creative genius when it comes to lyrics and vocal arrangements.
Actually it’s totally possible that she does it unconsciously without thinking about all that technicality or doing things differently from other people. What’s important is that she’s been writing great lyrics to the benefit of her band. That’s the most important for them.
@@weilima9316 exactly this. Some of the best musicians are more intuitive than technical. And the opposite is also true. It's certainly no insult to the musician either way. What matters is the result.
I think 2 hours before their thursday concert they will also release new merch, so I'll have to be up at 7AM for that and then 9AM for the concert, but I can't fucking wait. Incredible how they just seem to keep outperforming themselves. Especially the 'false start' later in the song doesn't get mentioned by many people, but it gets me so hyped for the last part, glad you put some emphasis on it!
When I see that Chase is doing another reaction video for Band Maid I am tuning in. As always, great breakdown, and as I've said before props need to go out to Miku who continues to sing the "soft" part and stay in rhythm while the rest of the band and Saiki start hitting it hard again. Takes great concentration, all while playing rhythm guitar. She is such an underrated talent in this band. Thanks again Chase. I have my ticket for the 23rd. Will have to watch it in archive (3am where I live), but looking forward to your breakdown.
I hate when people only mention Misa, Kanami, and Akane as the pillars of this band, and think that Miku doesn't give many contributions just because her guitar play isn't as great as Kanami. Some fans even think that Saiki doesn't exist. I wonder if they are Band-Maid fans or just fans of some Band-Maid members? By the way, have you read this discussion about Miku? www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/hfc9mt/why_miku_is_a_great_lyricist/
@@まゐまい Great article. Often wondered why the lyrics fit so well with English sounding rock melodies. That's how they intended. I already had an appreciation for Miku's talents. This just takes it to a whole new level. She is way ahead other time. Totally has the mindset of their songs reaching an international audience. She's succeeding. Genius!
I am late again Chase! Your uploads always come up while I am at work. So pretty much all has been said already! :)) Still I wanted to send your Kudos again for another great reaction! I also wanted to thank you for your outstanding support of this band! It's important to have such a knowledgeable and enjoyable reactor to tell the world the importance of Band-Maid and how they are actually doing it. You are getting a lot of views and I am sure Band-Maid is getting new fans from your efforts. I seriously hope that the Band itself is checking your channel out. They have been known to "Check" youtube out on occasion.
They've put on album every year since the band debuted in 2014. Six albums. Holy shit. These ladies work hard as hell, and they continuously put out bangers. Listening to them has been the first time I've been interested in rock music for over a decade.
I just got the DVD for the Feb 2020 concert and it is fantastic! The current album songs live with older ones in there as well! Miku gets to do Time and it is great! Waiting anxiously for more new Band-Maid!
Love your reaction videos containing analyses on music (and not just emotional reactions) from someone who clearly has a good understanding of a good variety of music. Would very much love to see you react to another Japanese band Tokyo Incidents. Their songs are generally not as heavy as the average songs you reacted to, but they are so musically tasteful thus their status in Japan is almost legendary, at least from what I know. Here is a recent song that they released: ruclips.net/video/zKBCSBfP9TI/видео.html
Great reaction, as always. This really is a music appreciation channel not a reaction. 23rd online was pretty damn fine. No audience but still got the energy levels up, messed around at half time and played their socks off. A superb intro to Play. I think it was a teaser for the unreleased Don't be Long with an almost solo from Miku. Non-Fiction days made my heart miss a beat. They finished with Blooming. Never seen that live before. I'd really like to see at least one song with a camera just fixed on Akane's drumming. She's so expressive when she moves.#bandmaidokyuji trended at number 2 for a while in Japan and ALL the merch is gone. Someone was interested!
Maybe You know them, but if not I´d like to recommend the Hamburg recordings on Vladimir Chupin´s channel. There You can watch Akane throughout the concert with all songs. Here is a fine example for what it means to be in front of the stage experiencing BAND-MAID with full volume. ruclips.net/video/RxmRiWHZ3TI/видео.html
Have never heard an average song from these ladies. I love Saiki, her vocals are always so good. That's why I love wonderland because it shows off her skills.
Quality every time! James Brown og hardest working, Band Maid is taking up that mantle ....and you my friend are one of the hardest working reactors out there! Cheers looking forward to more from you 😉🤘
Thank you Chase for that reaction! Great analysis on the break down! All I can say is that I cannot wait until this pandemic crisis is over so that Band-Maid can tour again
Chase Carneson, when I saw them in LA last year it was a great show! The venue was small but I didn’t care! I was up front with Kanami! Prior to the show, the girls showed up at the venue around noon time, got to say hi to them, Kanami wasn’t there! I went to get something to eat, as I was walking down a street around the venue I had walked past a tea cafe and this beautiful Asian girl walked past me, I could tell she was a tourist and I guessed Japanese. I have a very good memory Chase but that day I was tired! About two months later someone posted a picture of Kanami in front of that tea cafe, it took me five minutes to recognize the outfit she was wearing! At that moment of my thoughts, I said to myself, what an ass! You just walked by one of the best guitarist that’s in a band you admire and at that moment you didn’t recognize her! Tell you man! That shall not happen again
Budo-kan show is scheduled on Thursday, July 23rd (Holiday) starting at 4:00 pm (JST). Japan is 16 hrs ahead of us in Los Angeles and so the show starts at 12 midnight here on Thur, 7/23 (Late Wed night). If you're in New York (EST), it starts at 3:00 am. Following is the info: bandmaid.tokyo/contents/329014?fbclid=IwAR1eZGpDNwfdLHtNwWwZbFi9PjdKnxUijDhkFx0ADK32_hjEb4tSux2epJg Good luck!
On the Conqueror album, "Blooming" has been my favorite track so far. Miku's rythymn guitar work has gotten so good, it has freed up Kanami to do her melodic meandering runs. All the girls slay in this kick ass song.
Ah, what a day! With your previous reaction to Wagakki Band and now Band Maid, I got two great reactions to great japanese bands in one day (since i missed them before). I believe there is no doubt that you will to react more of Band Maid an Wagakki Band, so I would like to take the opportunity to point you to some more great japanese bands, just in case you find some time ;) Sokoninaru - Tenohira De Odoru Broken By the Scream - サヨナラバースデー Zettai Club - 夢幻大スリラー Nemophila - Oiran Mary's Blood - Marionette Mardelas - Apocalypse Bridear - Ghoul Girlfriend - Full House Aldious - We are Trident - Utopia Fate Gear - 7 years ago -refrain- Kiyoshi - Hero Lisa-X Band - One More Chance is Enough By the way: Lovebites just released a live video of Thunder Vengeance...
As long as the dartboard says Band-Maid, I'm happy whichever number you hit. But TBH I'm so enjoying being introduced to new bands here, I don't mind waiting.
Every time I come back to this video I get excited that there might be a 2-for-1 Puzzle reaction I’ve somehow missed, forgetting that it hasn’t (yet😅) come. This and all your other Band Maid reactions are awesome. Thank you!
Loved the Reaction as Always. I really enjoy at how technically you point out parts of the song and different aspect of the song in detail. Thanx again. I would really like you to react to the song Puzzle Live version and one of their earlier works "Before Yesterday" & "ORDER".
If you can find "puzzle" live give it a shot. They cram so many ideas into that song you could probably make a 30 minute video trying to pick it all apart.
On "The Non-Fiction Days" it is the other way round again: the calm bridge is followed by a catchy guitar solo. That song was not composed by themselves, but fits very good to their skills and style. Just like "Secret my Lips" not a singalong song but also a bit underrated.
I did not find an link so far for their tickets in your description or comments, i hope it´s okay if i write it down here and maybe you could pin it or something... That would be nice and i think these girls earned it. So for everybody who did not buy an ticket so far and is interested in, it´s only round about 12 euros, here is the link: l-tike.zaiko.io/e/bandmaid Great reaction like always and thanks for your clear statements. "See" you at the concert, have fun!
There are bands who go their entire careers trying to write 1 killer song....then they hear BAND-MAID & the tears start to flow.
Everything they touch is gold.
Indeed man, indeed.
Si Tua Teratas
..
Those two together coming from the same Tokyo School of Music is a gift from heaven.
"Where I would mute she does a run that almost makes it a part of the rhythm guitar instead. "
In some ways, MISA IS the rhythm guitar.
I agree. As a bass player, I can't help to have a crush on the bassist. She's awesome.
ALONE 💪
ALONE... Yes! And then, "The non-fiction Days" too
I definitely second these suggestions. Along with Endless Story too though, not enough people reacting to that one.
alone's kanami's solo still the top for me
They are the most beautiful, amazing, creative and absolutely fearless band on the planet.
MISA and Akane rearrange their own parts, Miku goes to
Write the lyrics and make edits to vocal melody and then it gets put together and Miku and Saiki do the final QC before song is finalized.
That's super cool, thanks for that insight!
Daydreaming - lead guitarist has said it was the hardest song for her to compose.
You want to have your mind blown! Watch an interview with them. They don't act at all like I expected. Except for the bass player, she sips whiskey neat during all the shows
I've seen/heard this dozens of times, and again, your analysis enabled me to hear it a whole new way. Great reaction!
Other bands posted..... 3 comments 1 hr later. Band Maid posted.... 14 comments in first 20 minutes. Hell yeah!
I would love any tips you can give me
@Cory Israel Instablaster ;)
@Hayden Calvin Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Oh man, no mention of you doing "Rinne" in the future? That's a KILLER song, really hope you do that one, it has some lovely quirky stuff for you to talk about :)
Not sure which is better. Chase's "Here it comes, I know it's gonna be great, Yes! I love their choruses!" face, or his triumphant "I was right!" face. Will have to do more research to find out.
Yes, "Rinne" next and then "Moratorium" ;) hehe
When doing Rinne (Reincarnation) - and I also HIGHLY recommend it! - you'll actually want the MV. There's a live version they did for a music show or something, but for the slot they were given they had to cut part of the song. The MV is the full version. Plus it's shot on Super 8 film, so is visually cool as well.
@@ricksgamemisc10 Yes, unusual for them, the music video is the best choice!
@@crabuki1273 Exactly! It's why I wanted to inform Chase since Live is the norm :)
Akane has said that Kanami "made" her work hard on her double pedaling to get up to the scorching 180bpm pace for _Blooming_ and _Rinne._
Kanami literally ask Akane, "how fast can you go?" Akane said 165. Then Kanami said, "i want you to be faster". They're just that good and dedicated.
Fast forward to the release of Unseen World with Black Hoke clocking in at around 220 🤯
Chase at 14:31 "I hope you enjoyed this one." Yes, I enjoyed this especially your reaction at 11:58. That's gotta be the most expressive I've seen from you so far. Top notch.
Haha o can't hide it at all.
I really like the direction for the video. You have 5 pretty young ladies playing, but they're about the music. The only faces you see are singing and those are usually cropped. Other than that, it is only instruments or fully shadowed figures. Brilliant.
You see more faces near the end almost like a flower blooming.
You're finally witnessing the controlled chaos of Band-Maid. This is one of their most creative song.
And...
It's an amazing song, but they're doing their best to keep it off youtube :(
Another warning, there's a live version of Rinne out there where they played it on TV where it's only half the song and the sound engineer didn't have a clue what he's doing so you can barely tell what they're playing. Stick to the MV for that one unless they release the live track off their most recent live DVD which is freaking awesome.
Yeah.. Stay away from that shortend live version.
Someone upload the clean version of Puzzle, hope it last long enough so he can react to it m.ruclips.net/video/JNtRfU4S08E/видео.html
@@getup960 Hopefully he sees this and downloads it.
In my opinion she compensated for this with some excellent bass licks, for example with this - 11:45
Dude hear the base in the background at 9:40 just amazing.
@@SLKRR Yes, I tried that too, but the sound compression on this album unfortunately marks the limits for such manipulations.
@@rmdcade1717 I would watch for youtube uploads of the show and download it before the inevitable takedown.
I keep thinking the perfect band t-shirt would read:
BAND-MAID
"We will do our very best."
It's pretty much their motto, and they live it.
@@somedude5414 Yeah, just found The Warning--they're a kick!
Aaaaah - every song is like one of the most satisfying meals you ever had (substitute your own simile here) - totally satisfying.
Chase dropped a new band maid video....
and a average day turned into a damn good day!
So exited for their live streaming concert. Hoping for 1 or 2 new songs.
Kanyon 7 I think there is a decent chance of that
the first guitar pattern in the song (climbing up the scale) is perfectly repeated, but mirrored in the very last pattern (going down the scale). works like completing the circle,, or wrapping the perfect birthday present right before handing it over with a confident smile...
Nailed it again Chase, no matter how many times I've listened to a song you always point out something i missed.
Great reaction and breakdown of the song!
In my opinion, Band-Maid has a common pattern of going soft after the fireworks of Kanami's solo, then they start building the intensity again (like they do here).
here we are.. another bandmaid reaction.. awesome.. !!!
Battle round 1: ruclips.net/video/qXcQgAu34LM/видео.html
Battle round 2: ruclips.net/video/wZqNTvV3LP4/видео.html
Another great review, I am always impressed by your breakdown of each song. I've listened to this song many times and each time I pick out something new. Band Maid somehow puts so much into each piece of music that it's impossible to take it all in with one listen. looking forward to their concert this week.
Double reaction to Puzzle would be great. Acoustic second, I recommend, and Kanami will surprise you. :)
(Just doing my "home-work" and trying to learn the "where and hows" )
Anyway... this one was the one that "bloo" my mind and made me think that I really should stop delaying my proper listen to them... and a few months later, they really are my fav band, period.
We'll be attending the same concert soon, and probably at the same time zone ( 8AM?) sad that can't meet you there and shake hands but well, it's going to be awesome, nevertheless...
Great reaction, as always. Always great to listen your input, stripping it down, pausing so much (yes, I like that, I have the song, I can listen to it without pauses in my own time...) to notice those little things or those bigger things... just great.
Same. I've seen their band name many times. Yet once I listened to this song I instantly became a fanatic. Such a beautiful song.
Here's the link to their song 'Gion-cho' ruclips.net/video/umSt7oMUMcs/видео.html
Note: they may post on the official Band-Maid page and look remarkably similar, but they are not Band-Maid.
Yes Band-Maid !! ... Please next reaction on these girls : "Rinne" or "Puzzle" (live)
Yes please live puzzle 🔥
For puzzle I agree , but the acoustic too !
Thinking of the double for puzzle
@@ChaseCarneson I much prefer the non acoustic song but yes both are interesting
@@ChaseCarneson yes good idea, if you do this , do the MV first and the acoustic after , it's the same lyrics but the emotions are totally different, and iam pretty sure that your comments will be interesting!
Another awesome track! You seem to be enjoying them as much as me and that makes me glad ^_^
When you mentioned "Puzzle", There is the Live acoustic, live, and studio versions. I prefer the live over the studio, the acoustic version is really nice :D
Please do a two in one reaction!
Would like to see a double up of Puzzle live regular and acoustic, then Secret My Lips MV and Secret MAIKO Lips MV
Definitely want to see the Secret comparison!
Some days ago MISA introduced her new fretless bass (4strings) with a short audio sample. I am very curious, how she will use it and how it will sound in special parts of a song. For my taste it could fit perfectly in the calm part of Blooming. Imagine the harmony singing and a sliding fretless...
So they also have an alter-ego band, Band-Maiko which mixes traditional Japanese instruments in. Try Secret Maiko Lips. Won't regret!
wtf, this band!!!!! those drums in the chorus,., wow
Finally!!! I knew you were going to love it. Puzzle would be great if you would do it side by side. There's still Glory, Yolo and Rinne too. Cant wait for the 23rd.
Thanks again for a great and insightful reaction and Blooming is on the set list for the live stream.
Yeah, I need to hunt up the link to that discussion. Was very fascinating.
Sounds interesting, where was that?
I'm learning so much about song writing by watching your analyses
Don't stress the reactions will always be there when you want them. Trust me, I won't stop telling the world how great they are any time soon.
They've put on album every year since the band debuted in 2014. Six albums. Holy shit. These ladies work hard as hell, and they continuously put out bangers. Listening to them has been the first time I've been interested in rock music for over a decade.
Nice reaction like always
love this song, glad you reacted to it
Top of the mornin', afternoon, evenin' to ya, Chase!
No pressure, but it is imperative you have a damn good day! :P
Always having a Damn Good Day!!!
I just got the DVD for the Feb 2020 concert and it is fantastic! The current album songs live with older ones in there as well! Miku gets to do Time and it is great! Waiting anxiously for more new Band-Maid!
You should react to Alone. It maybe an old song but I think it's one of Bandmaid's best songs.
Here is a recent song that they released:

Akane is absolute fire on this one. 🔥🥁🔥🥁🔥🥁🔥
🔥🔥🔥
@@joki5346 Thanks for pointing that out. Great! I generally steer clear of fan cam, but Mr Chupin manages to do them justice.
Have never heard an average song from these ladies. I love Saiki, her vocals are always so good. That's why I love wonderland because it shows off her skills.
Yes, B-M love their bridges and they are really good at them.
Quality every time! James Brown og hardest working, Band Maid is taking up that mantle ....and you my friend are one of the hardest working reactors out there!
Cheers looking forward to more from you 😉🤘
Band-Maiko pretty please....😊😊
Thank you Chase for that reaction! Great analysis on the break down! All I can say is that I cannot wait until this pandemic crisis is over so that Band-Maid can tour again
Same here!!! I HAVE to see them!
Japan is 16 hrs ahead of us in Los Angeles and so the show starts at

Good luck!
Have tickets.
Chase I am being educated each time I watch you work.
Ty for always going the extra mile in song break down. Very enjoyable.
Ningen Isu for more great Japanese rock. Love Nirvana, Heartless Scat, or Colour Out of Space. Cheers!
On the Conqueror album, "Blooming" has been my favorite track so far. Miku's rythymn guitar work has gotten so good, it has freed up Kanami to do her melodic meandering runs. All the girls slay in this kick ass song.
Architects - These Colours Don't Run
Great lyrics and one of the most badass breakdowns ever :)
Ah, what a day! With your previous reaction to Wagakki Band and now Band Maid, I got two great reactions to great japanese bands in one day (since i missed them before).
I believe there is no doubt that you will to react more of Band Maid an Wagakki Band, so I would like to take the opportunity to point you to some more great japanese bands, just in case you find some time ;)
Sokoninaru - Tenohira De Odoru
Broken By the Scream - サヨナラバースデー
Zettai Club - 夢幻大スリラー
Nemophila - Oiran
Mary's Blood - Marionette
Mardelas - Apocalypse
Bridear - Ghoul

Aldious - We are
Trident - Utopia
Fate Gear - 7 years ago -refrain-
Kiyoshi - Hero
Lisa-X Band - One More Chance is Enough
By the way: Lovebites just released a live video of Thunder Vengeance...
As long as the dartboard says Band-Maid, I'm happy whichever number you hit. But TBH I'm so enjoying being introduced to new bands here, I don't mind waiting.
Nice one, Pete.
Every time I come back to this video I get excited that there might be a 2-for-1 Puzzle reaction I’ve somehow missed, forgetting that it hasn’t (yet😅) come. This and all your other Band Maid reactions are awesome. Thank you!
Band-Maid make me soo blooming tonight
Just like "Secret my Lips" not a singalong song but also a bit underrated.
thank you your reaction are simply the best you the way you do is fantastic thank you again
I did not find an link so far for their tickets in your description or comments, i hope it´s okay if i write it down here and maybe you could pin it or something... That would be nice and i think these girls earned it. So for everybody who did not buy an ticket so far and is interested in, it´s only round about 12 euros, here is the link: l-tike.zaiko.io/e/bandmaid
Great reaction like always and thanks for your clear statements. "See" you at the concert, have fun!
