Your face when Akane started her drum solo was priceless hahaha. Other than their obvious insane talent and their incredible live sound, I think the thing that makes them most special is that they're just so incredibly fun to watch and listen to. They're always full smiles, they banter around while playing, pull weird faces and seem to just genuinely make a party out of every show they play. Other than Band Maid there is no band on this planet that can put a continuous smile on my face with every live performance I watch. Thanks for the great reaction!

I want acknowledge that I am very impressed with your reactions on Band-Maid. As a musician that has studied music from the age of 9 to about the age of 17, I find Band-Maid the most talented women in the world today. (IMO) Kanami Tono's writing and composing skills are incredible. Miku Kobato who writes 95 % of the lyrics is also amazing, they fit to the music perfectly. The first time I heard that drum solo, my smile was almost as big as Akane's. I was waiting for her to do a solo like that since I first discovered this band, and I was in pure bliss when I heard it.
Your reaction and your educated assessment makes me respect these girls even more, coz am just a head bopper but you are adding value to that piece , Tqvm for that 🥰🤘♥️
I started listening to Band Maid in January and loved them straight away. But it wasn't until I started watching your reactions that I realized 2 of the big reasons why. 1 is the changes they make to their verses (no copy and paste) and Misa's style on bass. 2 is their music just makes me happy. With the world the way it is now, I would have thought it would have just made my depression a lot worse and I'd be miserable. But I listen to Band-Maid every day now and it really does make me happy to the point I think I am doing better than I have in a long time. Music is Therapy. Rock on. Cheers Chase on another great reaction.
Of course they're smiling and having a good time, they're killing it, know it, and knew they would before they played the first note. Earned confidence is a powerful feeling.
When you said "god this music makes me happy", I couldn't relate more! Every time I listen to band-maid, I'm throwing my head around, kicking, loving every damn second of it. Just music that makes you feel good!
I trully think Kanami didn't overdo her solo because she didn't want to take anything away from the previous drum solo. It's not like she's not going to have plenty in other songs. But there's not nearly as many drum solos. I think one of the things I love about them, as far as I've seen, is no ego. They each are fantastic. No need to out do each other.
Also Akane’s solo is all in tempo, so it’s a part of the song rather than a typical "look at me aren’t I great" drum solo. I mean, she is great, but she does her great things in the way that is best for the song.
Hi Chase. I'm running out of superlatives to describe how talented BAND-MAID are. I don't say it lightly but I really think they've evolved how rock music will be played. Kudos.
So... I am a long "retired" TD and producer. I ran into this band yesterday morning. Listened to their live vids (and got hooked by the Wakaggi Band too) till almost 3 am. Today I found a lot of fun watching others reaction video's, which has just been so fun to see most all (from metal heads to pro classical performers) hit that moment when you see their eyes bug out haha. It was your first live one (Domination I think) that really caught my attention and it was super cool as you have more of a POV in line to what looked at. This band is truly phenomenal. I haven't been so impressed in many years.
... and you know what? There is more Akane in this concert... in fact, that's how it starts, a drum solo just before "Rinne"... I've been "Dominated" and I'm loving it... I can't wait for the next album or the next BluRay (at Budokan... 日本武道館) ...
I love how Miku is Kanami's guitar student, but she's at Miku's feet for the vocals. It's just a great picture of mutual respect. And what a challenge for Miku, blending her talents with BOTH Saiki and Kanami, throughout the song.
I was still up when this was posted (hidden benefits of insomnia) and was very excited. BAND-MAID always makes me feel good with their music, and this song is one of my favourites. I swear I feel a few kilos lighter for a good hour afterwards. And this performance is just great! I've been crazy about it since I saw it on the blu-ray, now I can share the link around! xD
Akarne Drumzilla! 😂😂😂 Yeah, i'm so happy too! In her Solo there is no Break, you can hear in your Backhead the song rolling the hole Time! For me that's the Kind of druming Quality of the great Ginge Baker!
The mail is still suspended between Japan and the U.S. Someday I’ll get to see my Blu-ray. The waiting is truly torturous. Releasing another song was a really sweet thing to do.
Contact them and see if they offer you shipping through DHL. I also had mines delayed till they offered that option. Took about a week. I also placed another order since which also arrived within a week. BTW I live in Hawaii which falls under the US shipping option.
curtis i Thanks for that suggestion. I’m a victim of my own clever plan it seems. I wanted to frame the poster. International orders are sent with the poster folded up to the size of the Blu-ray. So my daughter asked a friend of hers that lives in Tokyo to get one and pack it up for safe shipping. Suddenly COVID.
When most if not all metal music is about death and devil worship, it's great to find a band who can play upbeat, feel good music, and they do VERY well.
The death/devil shit is a very small part lol. most of metal is just called that because it usually goes against the norm, stuff like Marilyn manson and 9inch nails, criticizing TV politicians and the standard morals values and religion. Mostly speaking they're more about liberty/free yourself from society than anything else which IMO is amazing
I like the way you explained how a good solo should be. I'm really sick and tired of shredders just shredding fast without any thought for the melody. It's like they're just doing scales really fast in the middle of a song. I love Band Maid because the guitar solos always fit the melody.
One of the things I love about watching them live is that you can see the joy on their faces while they play. It's very infectious. It doesn't hurt that they are also wicked good musicians.
another great breakdown of the band and thanks for the shout-out to the sound engineer . Band-Maid always puts a smile on your face. On February 11, 2021 they are scheduled to play at the famous Budokan Arena in Tokyo
Just got the Blu-Ray DVD and watched it last night, AWESOME! It even has a long very impassioned Miku's Magic Time segment. Can't wait to see them in person. Great Reaction!! I always love the way you point out certain elements that we normally don't get. I love to see Misa smiling (something not too often to see) when they gather around Akane to make funny faces.
Some good call outs there Chase. This is easily one of my favorite LIVE songs by these immensely talented ladies. As I mentioned in my comment on the Onset reaction, they finally added a true drum solo for Akane after hearing the pleas from the fans... and in true Band-Maid style just crushed it. Akane and Misa are arguably one of the best rhythm sections in rock and roll currently. I also like that you have picked up on the subtle genius of Misa's playing not just in this song but all of the Band-Maid catalog. It was her bass lines and Akane's drums that hooked me on this band after seeing the Thrill video several years ago. One thing several of fans have talked about is that even though they have a catalog with enough songs they could play 3 hours straight this song, Freedom, they play in every concert. This song has become a staple and, dare I say, an anthem for the band in their live shows. In the smaller venues we got to see them in here in the US and Europe when they played this song, all 4 members would come to the front of the stage and play. Truly an epic part of their shows. Adding in Akane's drum solo to this song just cements this song as quintessential Band-Maid live performance. If you have the opportunity I would recommend finding the translated lyrics for this. Miku is truly a brilliant lyricist and poet (so to speak). This song really has become about them announcing to the world to get out of their way, they're coming through and you better come along! Thanks again for a great breakdown for the best band many people have never heard of! Let's just hope that all us foreigners can make it to Budokan! BTW - advance ticket lottery for the February 2021 Budokan show (for Fan Club members) is live through July 15. That is a show from the ladies I don't think any of fans want to miss!
I think the most amazing thing about these girls is that they have such different personalities yet come together perfectly while playing and have a blast doing it.
You're one of my favorite reactors of Band Maid cause you know your shit and points out things to learn for your viewers. Keep up the good work man. Greetings from Philippines 🇵🇭
@@thesherbet I love the bassist in this band. I've played bass in a Rush tribute band for a few years, so I'm always on the look out for great bassists.
Heh. Love how fast you can be relied on to jump on a Band Maid reaction. Great stuff! It's like a double whammy of goodness.... new Band Maid, inevitably followed shortly by a great breakdown of what's happening in the song. If there is ever a biography of Band Maids music, they need to hire you to tell it.
I think what I appreciate most about them is that they seem to genuinely having a good time, with the crowd, and especially with each other... My favorite bit? the phenomenal transition from the drum solo back into the song... As close to utterly flawless as I have ever seen/heard. These ladies are amazing.
Saw this when I got up this morning, Thought Ohh can't wait for Chase to get into that! Drum solo reaction!!! And great pause on the Kamami's solo to have a quality image of that sexy purple PRS. I wasn't sure you would do it today given the sad news that Nightwish Army Matriarch Ann Waychoff sadly passed away. From a lowly footsoldier (or Sailor in my case) Ty for the memories Ann
I hoped you'd be on this. They're just so damned good at what they do. Thank you for doing another BAND-MAID song! I've listened to all the albums and all the live shows and I'm still often surprised on like the 10th listen of a song. There's just so much depth in almost every song.
The Gorilla's Triumphant Assault and RED MISA. On the occasion of this song, everyone raves about Saika's adventure with the participation of the crowd in the audience (Zepp gig), an excellent Mincho solo, and now Akane's happy fury. Meanwhile, for this song MISA wrote probably one of her best bass lines. As hipnotic, gentle and melodic as only she can.
Awesome reaction Chase! I did want to mention again that Unlucky Morpheus released a new single for their upcoming album. The song is called "Unending Sorceress". Would love to see you check it out. Thanks man!
Thing i love most about them..... if you notice during Miku's little part Kanami is crouched down and Akane's solo... they all crouch down and give up the stage to the one band member. Shows a lot of class
This song is one of their earlier songs recorded in their album "Brand New Maid". One thing to be noted is, the lyrics are written by Miku (Little Pigeon), but the music and the arrangement were made by a "non-member". As obvious from this live concert, they have made it their own, after performing it for years.
This is a great version. Love the extended solo that Akane got. Unfortunately they took down the live Zepp version of this song where Miku got to shine 2x on lead vocals. Same spot as this one in beginning but towards the end of Zepp show version Saiki goes a bit into crowd to sing then gets kidnapped by the crowd so Miku had to bring it on home on vocals.
I really like your band-maid videos. I've loved the band for a while now and while it's nice seeing people be surprised by them I really appreciate your analysis talking about some of the finer details. They're just such a special group. They're talented but their music is just so fun and they have a blast playing together and the crowd has a blast too. They really just capture my favourite things about music and what a good band should be like.
As Chase said, " this music makes me happy " and personally i think that one of the biggest reasons why is that yes they are technically skilled and yes they play catchy songs that are easy to follow and fall in love with .. BUT! like it was said, the fact that they are having so much fun playing i think is the main reason. Too many bands on stage seem "broken up" or compartmentalized, they are 4-5-6 individuals playing their own thing only at the same time .. now i will say that if you been a band for 25+ years, yes you may have grown into a small, or large, lull and place of complacancy and that's why it is so fun to see these bands that absolutely love what they are doing. The only other band i can think of right away that does this would be Beast in Black, i saw them live in ..2018 maybe? and they were smiling the whole show through, the drummer most of all, never seen such a happy musician before then ..
You might be interested in watching the Zepp Tokyo version of this www.bilibili.com/video/BV1aW411X7bW?from=search&seid=17128280167787491856&t=6704 It doesn't have the drum solo, but it does have an additional half-minute intro, as well as Miku singing the last verse after Saiki gets carried off by the crowd. You'll also notice that unlike Akane's solo here, Kanami's solo is a standard part of the song. BTW, you called them a "hit machine". They've actually put out very few singles. They just have so many songs that if you knew nothing about the band, you would assume the track must be one of their big hits.
Gotta admit, while I really like Blooming, it's one I have never quite grasped why it's SO popular. Which is actually a great reason for me to want tto see Chase break it down, see if I can figure out what I'm missing. I'd put Screaming on that same list, TBH.
They always have so much fun playing this piece. Not technical like some of their stuff, but well done and very joyful. Obviously, a relaxing bit for them, and allows them to show-off their personalities. The live version is really enhanced by the extended Akane solo. She deserves the time to show off! A couple of other Japanese bands that you will like are D-Drive and Asterism. They are both instrumental groups. One has very experienced players and the other very young players. As you noted in your Polyphia reaction, you expect great things in an instrumental. You won't be disappointed! Try D-Drive's The Last Revenge, you'll enjoy their technical virtuosity - ruclips.net/video/QtMumMQLWyE/видео.html Try Asterism's Rising Moon - ruclips.net/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/видео.html - The kids and young adult have a very bright future!
Something you might appreciate that not many could is that Kanami composes songs with "fake english" and syllables rather than Japanese moras, then Miku puts a mix of Japanese and English lyrics to it. Miku is one of a relatively small group of musicians able to write Japanese lyrics for Western style rock music. Add to that, Saiki has to learn how to sing what Miku writes. The whole band is a team that works together like a well-oiled machine. Take just one of them away and the machine comes to a screeching halt. Besides rhythm guitar, backing vocals, writing lyrics, and vocal arrangements, Miku is also the bands promoter, spokesperson, costume designer, artist, and protective mother hen over the other girls.
Man, your review is awesome. I enjoyed every piece of information you gave about the technicalities of music arrangement about Band-Maid and all other bands you have reacted to. Makes me appreciate the music more. So yeah, thanks a lot 🤘🤘🎊🎊

Chase , you the only reviwer i have seen who picked up Misa's bass chords. And in general the genius of her bass lines. She makes the whole thing swing with her walking bass lines , esp in the chorus, If you go thu this whole song listening for what the bass does, you find every single note she picks is gold, and then adds the perfect runs. Misa is loved for he cool vibe and flashy bits , but lets not underestimated her ability to melodically drive the songs. genius !
My favourite band and my favourite reactor back with another perfect blend! Chase, from watching your other content I get the impression you're into the more heavier stuff? I may be wrong, but I'd love to see you react to some of Band-Maid's more heavier stuff. 'Blooming' and 'Rinne' are musts imo! Or even an older one like 'the non-fiction days' for the epic breakdown would be right up your street!
Have always thought Akane is chanelling Animal from the muppets. I have seen them three times in small clubs in LA. Being in such a small club they all ready shine.

@@cembor Totally agree, they are an awesome band with a nice and characteristic sound :) I have a very long list of Japanese bands / musicians that I listen to - from pop and indie to heavy, heavy metal along with everything in between! I don't know how this "Music rennaissance" was kick-started in Japan but I do know that it rocks! Oddly there seems to be an extremely high % of women in the Japanese music scene, too.
Hello, you should react to "BAND-MAIKO", is like a sub unit of BAND MAID, its like a "prank band" but its so cool, they add some japanese instruments and stuff but with the BAND MAID essence, I recommend "secret MAIKO lips"

Chase's headbanging seems to intensify day by day. Great reviews as always. Chase, I know that you always do rock / metal songs. Not sure how you feel about experimental folk music inspired by Iron Age, Bronze Age and Viking Age. Might be a challenge for you or might be not. In case you're intrigued, I'll leave - 'In Maidjan' by Heilung live at Castlefest - into your list.
Fantastic reaction, as always. I don't know if you can even call them reactions at this point, because your videos are so high quality and in depth. I would love to see you react to one of my favorite Bands, "Wagakki Band". They are a japanese band who mix traditional Japanese music with rock and metal music. Not for nothing some call Akane the 'Banana-powered-drum-machine'. 🍌🔥 This is confirmed by none other than Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, which I think says a lot. 🤘🏻Besides, there is a rumor that this solo was not planned at all. A spider, which ran over the drums during the song is said to have been the "trigger" for it. In the end the spider is said to have stopped and applauded Akane with respect. (just read it somewhere like this) 😂
"Freedom" is one of their earlier songs and there are many great live versions, but, needless to say, this recent version is next level. Your expression when Akane played her drum solo said it all. I loved how they transitioned from Akane to Kanami's guitar solo. Your musical breakdown of the song was spot on. Well done.
One of the best live songs by Band-Maid I think. The drum solo alone is unique for the past decades. Everything else, as always, well above average. Maybe not as catchy as "Blooming" or as phenomenal as the instrumental "Onset". But, I don't want to downplay anything. This band is miles above average and currently unmatched live. Keep it up, band maid! Hold on and stay together, then it goes to unreached heights. Hard work + talent + will - that distinguishes you. Best, BEST wishes from Germany.
They are a great example of the importance of taking what you do seriously, but not yourself! This us evident by how much fun they have with each other in how they try to put each other off.
Love your technical reactions, you give me a real understanding to what they are doing. Loved your face and reaction ('shes good, shes very good') after Akane solo :) She's The Gorilla ! Look forward to your next Band-Maid reaction. They make us all happy.
So much fun, happiness and joy, it's pure love for what they do and it shows. Akane's drumming is marvelous. Freedom is an older song written for them, and you can hear it, simpler structured. The live version is so much better. The energy, liveliness, added solo section, i could go on and on. We all know how good they are and it should be no surprise anymore. But even if I watch concert videos repeatedly, i can't help but shake my head in disbelief at how good they really are. Great reaction as always, everything you said, spot on. Rock on!
There is no such thing as a bad song from them or even a meh song. Every single one of their songs are great if not perfection shown in song. I have seen then live 2x in the us and they blew my mind
Gotta' love the wireless setup. You can really see how they get about the stage and connect with each other during the song. MISA gets in the mix with the other girls as they kick ass! This is Akane's post little hat days and she gets to flip her hair so perfectly! If it seems that I love these awesome ladies and their music then I concede, guilty as charged! They're just Brilliant! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is one of those guitar solos that has a kind of a ramp into the start of it !! I love those types of guitar solos. GN'R has one of those on their song "Don't Damn Me".
I came across Band Maid years ago (I think I found them when I was looking for new JP metal bands after discovering Babymetal) and almost immediately added them to my playlist. I think what I like about Band Maid, as others have commented, is just how much fun they're having up on stage. Yeah, the singing is great, the technical musicianship is great, but they also have... charisma? You can see it from their live shows - they're having the time of their lives, and that feeds into their audience, which feeds back into them. I'd love to have a chance to see them live one day.
Today WILL be Damn - Good - Day because Akane made it so. You could write a prescription for that drum solo! Also seeing Misa smile warmed my heart, because Misa.
Absolutely love your reactions because of the commentary and insight. Just wanna point out that Band-Maid actually have quite a few songs where Miku (the backup vocalist and rhythm guitarist) actually does the lead vocals of the song. Unfortunately they don't have an official video releases of any of those songs though. Her songs tend to be a lot more pop-focused (with the exception of Beauty and the Beast which is almost a punk rock style song) but DAMN if they aren't catchy as could be. I don't know if you've taken to actually purchasing any of their albums yet but they have some incredible songs that aren't on their channel.
I watched a few of your reactions lately. Babymetal, band maid (obviously), and hypa hypa bc I can't get enough of it. I've seen a lot of ppl comment about how they like how you break down the instruments and song composition. But I like how you say it makes you happy. Like you understand the songs so much and they just make you feel great. That's real music and i havent really met anyone else who can just say "it makes me happy" about music. You earned a subscriber just from saying that
Her drum phrasing in that solo was very Bonham-esque. But unlike many other drummers influenced by Bonzo, she took what he did and filtered it through her own personality. It was like a nod to the legend while still 'sounding like' Akane. No wonder Jimi Page was impressed by her.
Obviously hard to rate Band-Maid songs just because of how GOOD each of them is. But this song always gives me the biggest smile. It's just such a happy song to me. So seeing it live on their concert video and seeing Akane GO OFF brought tears to my eyes. And now I get to experience it daily via RUclips hehe. The Blu-Ray of this concert is phenomenal and is ~2 hours of pure joy. CD Japan is still shipping to the plague-ridden States via Fed Ex (and I think also UPS).
Don’t you just love it when Akane starts destroying her drumset with the biggest of smiles on her face? Because I sure do!
I get chills!
Yes. Yes i do!
This solo in particular! Her smile is so infectious.
That smile is gold :-)
Well said, Makoto :-) Her smile is contagious!
"God, this music makes me happy" - that should just be the subtitle to this band.

So right, Kanami watches Miku with so much happiness. You can also see them cheering Akane on her solo.
I saw you, who was always calm and analyzing, wiped away tears. I cry every time I see a live video of BAND-MAID. Thanks Doctor.
Thank you for watching 👌👍
... and you know what? There is more Akane in this concert... in fact, that's how it starts, a drum solo just before "Rinne"...
I've been "Dominated" and I'm loving it... I can't wait for the next album or the next BluRay (at Budokan... 日本武道館) ...
Watching five young women having the time of their lives playing for their fans gives me a huge grin! I need to go back and watching the show again.
I love how Miku is Kanami's guitar student, but she's at Miku's feet for the vocals. It's just a great picture of mutual respect. And what a challenge for Miku, blending her talents with BOTH Saiki and Kanami, throughout the song.
Kanami stares at Miku to see if she messes the lyric ;))) she always does it when it's Miku verse
Yeah, i'm so happy too!
In her Solo there is no Break, you can hear in your Backhead the song rolling the hole Time!
For me that's the Kind of druming Quality of the great Ginge Baker!
Band-Maid makes you happy.
Band-Maid makes your ears go bananas...unpeeled.
Band-Maid is a hard rock band to the core, with many intricate layers.
Just seeing them have so much fun on stage is so awesome! These ladies are true professionals :)

Thanks for that suggestion.
They are today's Guns'n'roses, but with a feelgood vibe.
@@mogaman28 with a better bassist. MISA, MISA, MISA.
The behind the scenes before the concert segments are really cool and funny.

Great Reaction!! I always love the way you point out certain elements that we normally don't get. I love to see Misa smiling (something not too often to see) when they gather around Akane to make funny faces.
Quality explanations of all the little things that make Band-Maid so great. Subscribed.
Just saw this song a little while ago on Sonny Von Cleveland's reaction channel. I liked it enough that I thought I might as well watch it again here.
I'll be going the other way. I tend to watch Chase first! 😂
Mr Rock N Rolls got his reaction out too, its the drum solo hes been waiting almost a year for lol

What a fabulous band and a fabulous reaction Chase 🤘🤘
Love your analysis. This is a great performance and they are all having the time of their lives.
While Akane steals the show with her epic solo, it's MISAs base work that makes this song for me
Kanami's solo for me
Saiki and Miku's singing for me.
I have listened to soo many reactions to this song. Year later this is still D best. Chase catches so many things others missed.
I also like how when Miku got her little vocal bit, Kanami knelt down to give her more ‘spotlight’.
I imagine you'll avoid them for a while but you should really watch the music video of Blooming by them.
Scott Crocker I check his channel every day hoping he does Blooming lol
@@ohnoitsjericho me too!
Gotta admit, while I really like Blooming, it's one I have never quite grasped why it's SO popular. Which is actually a great reason for me to want tto see Chase break it down, see if I can figure out what I'm missing. I'd put Screaming on that same list, TBH.
@@bishopsteiner7134 😳, i look nonplussed and perplexed from what i just read, bigymmyknowbluh?
@@rossmudie9298 eh?
They always have so much fun playing this piece. Not technical like some of their stuff, but well done and very joyful. Obviously, a relaxing bit for them, and allows them to show-off their personalities. The live version is really enhanced by the extended Akane solo. She deserves the time to show off!
A couple of other Japanese bands that you will like are D-Drive and Asterism. They are both instrumental groups. One has very experienced players and the other very young players. As you noted in your Polyphia reaction, you expect great things in an instrumental. You won't be disappointed! Try D-Drive's The Last Revenge, you'll enjoy their technical virtuosity - ruclips.net/video/QtMumMQLWyE/видео.html
Try Asterism's Rising Moon - ruclips.net/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/видео.html - The kids and young adult have a very bright future!
Mother Pigeon.

This is a very cool band (form Japan) and one of my favourites, they have aspects of jazz, blues and math rock incorporated into their songs and the overall sound is on the lighter side of rock ^_^

I have a very long list of Japanese bands / musicians that I listen to - from pop and indie to heavy, heavy metal along with everything in between! I don't know how this "Music rennaissance" was kick-started in Japan but I do know that it rocks! Oddly there seems to be an extremely high % of women in the Japanese music scene, too.

If you want to start with a music video though, I recommend "Ikusa".

They continue to improve with each concert, which is almost scary. Great analysis!
They're just Brilliant! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is one of those guitar solos that has a kind of a ramp into the start of it !!
I love those types of guitar solos. GN'R has one of those on their song "Don't Damn Me".
I think the excellence would exhaust me if I were to go to a show of theirs.

You earned a subscriber just from saying that
Well this makes me very happy too. Thank you for the support.
I knew you were gonna love this one! 😎
Almost looked like your eyeballs were gonna fall out and roll around on the floor during A-chan's drum solo! 😉🤘
You need to react to Order, one of their most underrated songs! Dont think theres a live version of it but theres is a music video of it.
Great review - thanks! 😁👍 And if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, I wish I had the skill level to play my bass like Misa! lol
Don't we all!!!!
