Tuomas wrote this song for tribute to the total solar eclipse in 1999. 11th of august. Forever Nightwish classic. ❤️ Check out the original version with their first singer Tarja Turunen!
There are some Nightwish songs that "fit" better to Tarjas operatic voice. In my opinion this is one of them. That doesn't mean that Floors version is not excellent.! both are perfect.
Nightwish is basically a supergroup, all of them are brilliant musicians and trying to strike a balance so no single musician overshadows the rest of the band must be unbelievably difficult. But I agree, Emppu could have a little more space for his solos
This song, and the way Floor performs it, is absolutely bewitching. If you weren't enthralled by Tuomas's work before, this would seal your fate. And Floor just carries it with no effort at all. Lovely.
Viivi K , jealous of the ones that like both or better all three singers very lucky , wish it was so for me . Floor got me in to nightwish and even though I respect Tarja’s talent her voice unfortunately doesn’t work for me .
@@killkult Same here. I respect Tarja for what she has done for Nightwish, but I am just not into her operatic style. For me it sounds forced in some way. Hard to put into words. Foor makes it sound effortlessly and she puts so much emotion into this song that I have a very hard time listening to it without tearing up.
This song made me love Nightwish. I heard it the first time with Tarja and my fav of hers but Floor sings it just as well, love both of them singing this song😏😏
Sleeping Sun, Walking in the air, Dead Boys Poem ... that were the old songs i loved the most with Tarja. I think i still haven't seen Floor singing Walking in the air till now. Omg, but Anette "tried" 😜
Original version Sleeping Sun not 2005 version and Floor version are both great. Then Our Decades in The Sun and Prosession from new album both three are very beautiful ballads.
This over 20 years old classic from Tarja's era is probably the best known Nightwish ballad. It has very unique orchestration and storyline. Tarja's dark voice suits to this very well, but of course Floor can perform it very good as well.
Thanks for choosing this concert, I was there that day at Vizovice, awesome experience. It was the very first time I heard Floor live and I was shocked and amazed by how good her voice was. Truly unforgettable experience!
I love seeing you as a singer fangirling over Floor, why don't you check out her channel and try to get in touch with her for an interview, would be a great watch, she is really an amazing and even shy woman tbh :)
Tuomas's phrasing mastery is really evident here. Nothing - not the vocal lines, not the guitar part - comes in quite where you expect it to. But it all comes in where it absolutely has to. Brilliant.
Floor is painting artistis like Da Vinci was. Tuomas and all members of Nightwish gives tools to paint and Floor will paint a picture but she will do it with her singing skills, with her movements and with her emotions....And that painting is always like a new Mona Lisa.
I’ve listened to this song every once in awhile for the past decade and have even played it at work off and on for the past year, but still haven’t entirely noticed just how perfect it was till the last few day. Absolutely love this song
another breathtaking ensemble worn by our Queen Floor that includes one of her magical butt capes! Floor is hella stylish! her freakin voice is like Butter!
This is a a super song, I don't know which one are best - the Tampere 2015 or this one. The Tampere is a little more powerful and fantastic when she walks on the catwalk - but this one - I can can feel it in my bones. It was the Country Germany who asked Tuomas to write a song about the Solar eclipse in 1999. But Tuomas wouldn't write on demand - so he made it too long - 11 seconds I believe, just to show that art is not not done within a time frame.👍 But nevertheless, he wrote it, and it is masterpiece of a ballad - and Floor loves to sing it (therefore it is on the setlist on Tampere and many other gigs - thumbs up for Floor, for making that decision 👍) And dear Suzie - you are turning into one of my favorite reactors, while it is obvious that you appreciate what you are reacting to - so 👍 for you too😉 Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰
I think you are about right, ISTR he was commissioned to write it with a very strict time requirement, which of course he could do easily, but indeed made it some seconds over to make the artistic point.
@@572Btriode A great composer/songwriter can produce memorable music in spite of the restrictions. The most famous, I suppose is the "Nutcracker" ballet. Hi Suzi. I love watching your reactions. I've also taken a bit of time to listen to your music, and you guys kick ass. I'm definitely a fan now. Hope to see you guys on tour at some point. Best wishes from Croatia.
I am not a 100% fan of Tarja. I can't listen to Tarja for a whole day, for instance. But the original version with Tarja is..... no words. Maybe one... WOOW!! It’s not an epic in five parts, but it’s one of my very favorite performances of my favorite songs ❤️ When I was a solo OTR trucker, this was a favorite of mine to play when I was 12.5 hours into a 14 hour day and driving into a moonrise in the middle of nowhere New Mexico 😎 Thanks again for another wonderful video and have a fabulous evening 🤘
Taurus Guy a Nightwish epic in five parts would be The Poet and the Pendulum. There are literally five parts to that song and it’s awesome 😎 This is much more simple and shorter, but I like it as much if not more 😉
Achingly beautiful song, with Floor's vocals soaring into our emotions. And again, Tuomas singing along, to himself, as he always does. This guy really does immerse himself in the music.
Hello there! I am reaching out to my favorite reactors to see if they will be at either Nightwish show in MA on May 7th and in NY on May 8th. I'd love to say hi!
I've heard this song countless times, by Tarja and Floor, Both are great, I generally think that Floor performs most Nightwish songs better than Tarja, but I still think this song is where Tarja really shines and outperform Floor.
You mean to say that Floor makes great covers of the older Nightwish songs,, right? Probably only one Floor cover sounds better than the original version, which is probably the rearranged "Ghost Love Score" from the Waken concert in 2013. And for it suit Floor's vocal capabilities, it had to be played an octave lower than the "End of an Era" concert. As for this version of "Sleeping Sun", it sounds like Nightwish making an enjoyable cover of their own song. In conclusion, nobody sings the songs that were written and produced for Tarja, better than Tarja, no-one sings the Anette era songs better than Anette and no one will sing the Floor era songs better than herself.
I prefer Floor every time, even the other singers did a great job. But all that is PERSONAL PREFERENCE. And that we have different taste. To perform. Is more than singing and that is the reason for me to prefer FLOORs versions.
I love Nightwish. Would love to see you do, I WANT MY TEARS BACK, live in Buenos Aires. 2019. And watch Floor dance all over the stage. Never seen her this happy before, DEVIL AND THE DEEP DARK OCEAN, same concert. Floor and marco just show off in this song. Unbelievable
Operatic Metal Ballad. Classic. Tarja does a beautiful work as well. Look at all of Nightwish and you’ll see the the transformation of all of them. That itself is a song. Love you guys. 👍
If you liked it listen to the original with Tarja, live or studio...theres a few songs that really "belong" to the original vocalist who recorded it, not cause the new vocalist can do it nice, but cause the essence of the song remains on the emotion given by the original singer...to me, this is one of those (and I love the 3 vocalists and I love this version too)
I really love your reaction videos and that's why I subscribed your reaction channel. I received the notification to yet another of your reaction videos and was curious watch it. But unfortunately one scrolls down the comments section and reads some really stupid comments. "this is one of the only songs that I prefer Tarja singing it"... But how pathetic can these Nightwish army trolls be? They continue to make this stupid comparison between Floor's cover version from Waken 2013, where the songs were rearranged to suit her vocal skills and the "End of an Era" version where Tarja was so sick that day, that the whole concert was at risk of not being performed. You can actually hear that Tarja was having severe difficulty to hit those higher notes and sometimes there was even a wobble instead of a vibrato. These Floor infatuated fans must have stopped listening to Tarja after she left Nightwish. There are so many recent performances of this song during Tarja's solo career that are 1000 times better than the "End of an Era" version.
You should check out their cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. It's From before Floor's time in the band and Marko is doing the singing and it's amazing.
As much as i adore Floor and think she is the best of the three singers nightwish had, i must confess i prefere this song to be sung by Tarja. It's one of the tracks that fit perfectly to her tembre and style. You should definitly check the live version and see yourself.
"hooked on that nightwish feeling yo! 🤪 Good song and reaction! You should check the same song live also on Tampere 2015, little different nuances...my favourite of these live ones..but i'm biased 🇫🇮 🤘
This happens to be one of the songs that I prefer Tarja the original lead singer from Nightwish.....you still need to hear her version of Phantom of the Opera.
Since you have listened to a lot of their big live performances now, I think it's time you give the new album a shot (which they haven't performed live yet because of the pandemic). I think you will like "Pan" and "Tribal", but keep in mind that we are all waiting to hear these songs live because 80% of the time they sound better live.
One of the few songs that prefer both Tarja & the studio version as well. That she sings it with a different voice that you didn't hear much, most were with the all-out bombastic operatic thang going on.
lyrics The sun is sleeping quietly Once upon a century Wistful oceans calm and red Ardent caresses laid to rest For my dreams I hold my life For wishes I behold my night The truth at the end of time Losing faith makes a crime I wish for this night-time To last for a lifetime The darkness around me Shores of a solar sea Oh how I wish to go down with the sun Sleeping Weeping With you Sorrow has a human heart From my god it will depart I'd sail before a thousand moons Never finding where to go Two hundred twenty-two days of light Will be desired by a night A moment for the poet's play Until there's nothing left to say I wish for this night-time To last for a lifetime The darkness around me Shores of a solar sea Oh how I wish to go down with the sun Sleeping Weeping With you I wish for this night-time To last for a lifetime The darkness around me Shores of a solar sea Oh how I wish to go down with the sun Sleeping Weeping With you
Nice reaction. Tuomas was encouraged to write a song by his record company. That would have to do with a upcoming major eclipse that in was best viewed in Northern Europe. That took place Aug 11 1999, thus the last of the century. This is the result, with it being released a month or so before the actual event. It swiftly climbed up the charts in Europe.
You should check out the Wembly version of this song. The vocals and music are equally good there, but the visuals and the camera shots are much more impressive.
you should react to Sleeping sun with Tarja, if there are songs that are meant for her then these are "Nemo", "sleeping sun" , "phantom of the opera" "the siren" and "wishmaster"
I love Floor and this is a fantastic performance. However the ultimate live performance of "Sleeping Sun" was with Tarja at the "End of an Era" show. lyrics
The sun is sleeping quietly
Once upon a century
Wistful oceans calm and red
Ardent caresses laid to rest
For my dreams I hold my life
For wishes I behold my night
The truth at the end of time
Losing faith makes a crime
I wish for this night-time
To last for a lifetime
The darkness around me
Shores of a solar sea
Oh how I wish to go down with the sun
Sleeping
Weeping
With you
Sorrow has a human heart
From my god it will depart
I'd sail before a thousand moons
Never finding where to go
Two hundred twenty-two days of light
Will be desired by a night
A moment for the poet's play
Until there's nothing left to say
I wish for this night-time
To last for a lifetime
The darkness around me
Shores of a solar sea
Oh how I wish to go down with the sun
Sleeping
Weeping
With you
I wish for this night-time
To last for a lifetime
The darkness around me
Shores of a solar sea
Oh how I wish to go down with the sun
Sleeping
Weeping
With you

We have "couple" of good bands here in Finland ;)
Suzi, how has your exposure to Floor and Nightwish changed your music and your perception of what you can do through your music?
One of the very few Nightwish songs I don't care for...
The original singer, Tarja, also did this LIVE (ruclips.net/video/E_RRMRXJWxI/видео.html) and it was equally stunning. Check it out if you want to get a feel for the original Nightwish before they had the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal as their lead vocalist!!!
Thank you. Floor. Please next Tarja Kuolema Tekee Taiteiljan end of an Era. Sleeping Sun end of an era. Marko Hietala High Hopes en of an Era.
I LOVE YOU MUST 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Nice reaction , but you should react to (nightwish, Ghost River)
Hey you try out Sleeping Sun in Tampere
since you so enjoyed this one my I suggest Dead Boys Poem
i love nightwish only with Floor
How'bout Weak fantasy?? Live from Tampere...😊 great drumwork from kai in that one...or a differently heavy one "Dead boys poem" live at buenos aires...
Tuomas' least favourite song from a creative point of view! But as a ballad if you have to have one then this has got to be near perfect!
You should watch Tarja's version or this one at Tampere Floor is a warm and beautiful human being.
