What an excellent video. These guys are in my opinion the best supplier in the UK for spray guns etc. They are super useful on their site too so if you have any specific questions you can ask them directly there.

Unfortunately just a week ago the motor has made a lot of spark and then boom, finish.
I've been replay it(Wagner XVLP) with a lovely Fuji mini mite 5 from Axminster, very powerful and high quality fine atomisation.

I bought one today. Sprayed a big bookcase on site. Perfect finish. I always sprayed with the new graco handheld for my doors and cabinets . Great gun to have in your arsenal but for tighter area’s you have a lot more chance to get a runner and that is what you don’t want. I bought the 5000 wagner today and it’s much better for cabinets and bookcases. I like it. Set me back 1k € though. Bit too expensive. The thing i dont like is that it has problems when spraying upside down and such.

These are perfect for small jobs although the 5000 is a better model . Had mine for about 5 years .
Especially good on tricky jobs like tongue and groove or curved wood .

I mainly want one for ornate ceiling roses and cornices. How do you go about spraying things like those if you can't point the gun upward past a 45 degree angle?

  • @JoeProDecor

Excellent demonstration as always 👍 I have the xvlp 5000 and there is not alot of content on youtube which is a shame, similar to the graco 9.5 pro comp in use....but nevermind.
The xvlp 5000 is capable of a very nice finish using the fine finish gun, but the only thing lacking really is the fan width when doing so. It's also very important to master the first and second trigger pulls as this is vitally important at the start. Thinning on water based trim paints tends to be between 10-15% on the majority with 20% needed on some thicker ones.
Can I ask, is the graco 9.5 pro contractor or pro comp capable of better finishes generally? And can you do it by getting a slightly bigger fan width too? And would you say less thinning would be required in comparison?
    Best regards, Joe

I wish to carry on more with it, but the turbine air is very close to spraying area and when you go in the cabinets all the over-spray are attracting in, although there is a kind of filter but is not enough.
Remember all the manufacture of the turbine air for HVLP spraying recommend to stay as
far as possible of the area where you spray.

I've had good results with mine. Thining correctly is essential. The fan is narrow, only 3-4 inches so you need to be careful to overlap enough and not force it.Effectively you're only covering 1.5 -2 inches on each pass

Hi Gary Eden! if both machines are set up as efficiently as possible there wouldn’t be much in it but I would say the XVLP might just edge it’s because it does work at slightly less pressure 👍

Can anyone help please. I have a Wagner 350m that I use for large areas mainly fresh plaster. I am looking for a handheld sprayer for doors, skirting boards and arc mainly using gloss (oil based) paint is the 3500 good for this and if so what is the dilution ratio for oil based using this gun. Thanks.

@@tommackrall6631 I’ve been spraying Tikkarila water based primer with mine today. I added 10% water to thin it a bit and warmed my paint in a water bath as it’s cold up here in Leeds. Sprayed on well. Not tried spraying Tilkarila water based gloss yet but I’m confident it will be ok.
I’m a commercial vehicle painter by trade and these xvlp guns take a bit of getting used to as they are so much slower than the DeVilbiss JGA I’m so familiar with.
I hope your spraying is going well

mmm too much plastic in that design for me. wont last on the van. also older hvlp wagner used to have a separate on/off for the motor then the trigger was just releasing the paint, way better system. they later took away the motor switch so that the trigger was operating the motor AND releasing paint so it splattered every time.
although wagner after sales support is amazngi reckon ill end up going for the q5 even though its more money sometimes money isnt everything. a good tool pays you back.
