  • REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
    In the affected vehicles, a frozen door latch, or a bent or kinked door latch actuation cable, may result in a door that will not open, will not close, or opens while driving condition, increasing the risk of injury.

    Very good video but it does not work. Here in canada the problem still exists. I have solved it by removing the latch assembly driling holes in it and filling the actual sealed latch unit with dielectric grease. Works perfectly...

      Nice, im from ON. I just got a 2017, exactly what happens? This asshat makes it seem like both doors fly open and closed while driving in the title. What a goof this guy is.

    I have tried to remove my actuator on my 15 and cant get it out. I would love a video explaining how. That vertical bar stops you from removing the whole unit. Both drivers and passenger are broke.

      @@hoeswayg2046 never figured it out. I had a shop quote me $300 a side to replace. Both of them are still broken.

      @@lancemartin1153 Dang man I know. Ive had to open the doors from the back. I bought replacements for both front door. Tried to remove the driver side today and it wouldn't come out. Put it all back together. It'll have to wait for another day. I can't find anything online about it everything is for 2014 and below.

    I have a 2016, and the last two days we had below freezing temps, and a door wouldn't unlock electronically until it sat overnight in the garage. Placing a little shroud/hat over the door latch doesn't seem to be a real fix. And taking all the door panels off sounds like more problems down the road for me.

    A piece of plastic isnt gonna fix the problem..Its still a Ford when he gets done..
    My 2018 F150 latches have froze so I couldnt open the doors and so I couldnt get them to latch shut.. HUGE safety risk when the damn door wont latch shut.. And they still have issues with the ones they are producing now.. where is the NHTSA on this issue.. I guess its not a big deal to them..
    Truck shifts like s**t in stop and go through town and clunks through the driveline. Has the notorious cam phaser/chain rattle when not up to full operating temp. Gets about 18 mpg on flat highway at 70mph which is 5 mpg less than sticker.. Steering pulls whichever way it feels like regardless of road crown. 3 alignments later and same ole same. The interior plastic scratches so easy it is rediculous..
    Maybe I got a lemon and most dont have these issues but I am not impressed..
    Smh.. should have stayed true to my roots and went with another Ram.. lesson learned the expensive way.

    Dosent work,. Before I had mine done it froze once in a while. After I got it done it freezes every time it drops below freezing at night....

    Y doors won’t unlock when it gets below 20 degrees.

    I have not fixed it yet but mine only fails to lock when below freezing and only on the drivers door. Also needs to be opened from the inside, using the inside door handle. I think it may be a cable issue that connects the inside handle to the door latch, need to check this. At least the video shows me (sortof) how to take the door panel apart.

      tim s I haven’t had mine replaced yet either. It’s 12 degrees tonight and I went to get in my truck and the latch wouldn’t work. This is the only time that it’s done this.

      @@MrBubinski777 yeah, a Tech with a camera on him. No camera, no torque wrench. Ford sent out a mailer having owners check if the recall had been done. For real. I had to inspect each door/lock that it had been replaced.

      Why do we look miserable? Because we are. This is aggravating tedious work for low pay. Anybody watching this that is a ford dealership mechanic knows what I'm talking about. Besides this is not a permanent fix. Those latches will freeze again. Ford knows they screwed up with this latch design.

      @@Dave-tz9zx Not 100% sure if the 19s and 20's were redesigned. I would assume so because all of the recalls I have done have been 2015 - 2018 models. Haven't seen any 2019s come in.

      He likely isn't a mechanic. This was made by the higher ups at ford as an instructional video for techs in dealerships to learrn how to do this recall.

      You basically have to remove the window track and exterior door handle. Just had this issue with my 2016 f150. Door wouldnt close. Found to be the actuator door handle cable mount arms. I sprayed lube on the arms and manually cycled cables interior/exterior handles. Door closes as required. If those door latch actuator cable mount arms don't fully retract back ive found they will keep my door from opening from outside or door itself wont latch closed. I live in Hawaii so the dealer won't perform the recall.
