Used 2018 SCab, 18k miles, both doors have this problem. Dealer has had it once for this problem and the latches still freeze. Extremely frustrating. Once I get the doors to lock/unlock freely I can shut the doors but only if I"m fortunate enough to get one door to open.
Great Video. I had this issue the other day and found your channel researching cause and what people are doing to fix it. My '18 is new to me so I don't know what fixes are applied and which are not. I had ran my truck through the car wash and then parked in my heated garage. The garage is kept at 68F all winter and even being warm for over 24 hrs the next day I was out running around. Had been parked for a couple hours and went to drive home and the driver's door wouldn't close. Temps was 10F outside so not even that cold for MN standards. Using information in this video I rolled down the driver's window and pulled back on the seal like you show and can tell there is foam inserted in the seal so odds are the "fix" has already been applied. Do you know if there are different iterations of this fix as for the internal foam blocks and other changes? It could be the foam gasket around the door handle itself as you pointed out as well. Also possible that the tech didn't go through the details that you do which very well could be above and beyond what is outlined in the "official process". I was messing around with the door so I could drive the 40 miles home and notice that it wouldn't open once the door was locked. It wasn't fully sealed but at least I didn't have to worry about trying to hold it closed while making right hand turns. That might be helpful for someone trying to keep a door closed in an unoccupied position. Once I got back to my heated garage I was going to take a look at it more closely but then of course the door started working fine and would stay closed. Just the drive home at some point "fixed" the issue so it would close. I do carry ratchet straps at all times in the truck. Sad I might need them for this....
I go above what's required and have never had one come back, the only way to know is by pulling the door apart and checking honestly. There is only this one specific set of literature on this which I described in this video and can be Googled 18N03
This is a recall fix for free by any ford dealership...Just so everyone knows...I just bought a 2018 ford f150 not knowing about this recall...dealership knowing sold me this vehicle with an open recall...fucking mad!! Today I dropped it of tobe fixed...so if you have a f150 ho get it fixed
I had my truck in last winter and they did a. “1 time warranty” fix on it, the latches started freezing up again so I called and they said my 2018 was under recall and there really wasn’t anything they can do because they don’t know why some have this problem and some don’t. They said they could look at it but I’d be wasting my money.
Thanks for the video. Question is this related to central locking not opening and closing on 3 of my 4 doors? I moved my F-150 from Middle East to Sweden. All handle seals perished came off in its first winter here. Now its rained, snowed and freezed to -15 degrees Celsius. I now have drivers door and back two doors failing to open/close and tail gate not opening or closing on central locking. Only from passenger works crazy how nothing works in one night. Thanking you in advance for the advice
I just had the recall work done at my dealership two days ago and the driver's side door wouldn't latch this morning. No rain, no snow, no car wash since the repair. I live in the high desert so I don't think humidity/moisture is the culprit, just the cold. Do you think your silicone trick on the handle assembly will prevent the latch from sticking even if it hasn't rained? Do you think applying silicone or gun oil to the latch from the outside might help? Thanks for your videos. They were very helpful in case I want to tackle doing it myself.
Thanks Ford Boss, sadley your level of performance isn't standard. My local dealership is playing stupid like they never heard of the problem. I see listed on the bulletin 18N03 a kit, part #FL3Z-16308-M, does that kit come complete of components required for driver & passenger doors? Thanks again!
I try to leave it off for a short amount of time so my faithful subscribers can watch the video without being hit with commercials and then I turn it on

I took mine for the recall they made it worse then it was it was just for a transmission service and they did the recall but when they did the recall the left cable in the of the window track catching the cable causing more issues
@@FordBossMe understood. I ask because I had this exact service done on my truck today at a Ford dealership. Took about 7hrs, but doesn't look like they touched anything. I know each shop and tech/mech are different, but it seemed fishy to me how long it took and the service rep couldn't give me a finite answer on what was actually accomplished. Taking it back tomorrow morning for continued servicing.
What do you suggest? I have been in to dealer,Twice, for this repair... on my 2017 f250... at least 1 door still opens but won't relatch... will the do it 3rd time.. different dealer? Kinda stuck on what to do

Latches not strong enough even after my 4th fix. I used all kinds of spray and same results. Well thus time I used gun oil and guess what they work.
what gun oil product have you been successful with?
@@ankoreblackstone860 They all freeze so not worth it.
I solved the problem. traded it in at a GM dealer
My fuking Ford 2012 Galaxy does it every time it freezez. Bloody driver door is fucked. Imma junk the car, I'm DONE with it. RIP.

Do I think they will work? sure I do....is it guaranteed? no
Have not had one single come back though
My 2017 Front driver side door froze up last night 10 degrees outside. I used wd40 to get it to close and heated up the truck.
2022 Superduty having this same problem. Cant believe they never addressed it.

I believe so
About how much does this cost to do? I just purchased a used 2017 f150 and it started to do this on very cold days
We’re having this problem and they’re leaking water into the cab.

Do you inject the exterior door handle release cable with the specified 99 percent methyl hydrate?
Where do u get the stuff u added at?
What stuff are you talking about you got to specify give me a timestamp in a video
If you're talking about the silicone it's just regular silicone if you talk to him about the foam kit you get that through Ford
Where are u located?
Dundee Illinois Dundee Ford
Is there anyway i could get u to fix my 2017 f150 door latching freezing problem "your way" so i know its done right? And BEFORE the winter hits?
If u want to get ahold of me personally u can email jdogg1782@gmail.com and we can discuss it more privately
I'd be willing to pay u for ur extra effort or course
What do those white clips with the barcode actually do for the recall? Thanks!
It's a Wiper clip as the cable moves back and forth it wipes the cable if moisture were to get on it
What foam blocks are you talking about..is this a repair kit

Well the dealer's going to have to pull the door apart and redo everything
What is the average working time on this project for somebody of your skill level?
I take my time so it's a couple hours
If I really want to take my time like 3:00 to 4:00 because I don't rush it

Can you comment on when this would need to be done? Does it affect all model years 2015-2020? Is there a TSB or recall that refers?
