Yeah pretty much, just make sure to get the right transmission cross member the one I ordered was incorrect. But yeah transmission, crossmember, transmission mount, flex plate, conversion harness, a segment swap/tune, dipstick, torque converter, shift linkage bracket if your 4l80e doesn’t have it. Stock driveshaft should work by changing the slip yoke or getting a new driveshaft.
The 4L80 is more sturdy than a 4L60 but l'm not a fan of the 2.48 1st gear ratio of the 4L80 the 3.06 1st gear in the 4L60 is better and if you throw a 6L80 in the mix it has a super low 4.03 1st gear whats the big deal well with a 6L80 trans with a 3.27 - 3.42 rear end gearing will leave from a dead stop as well as a 4L80 trans would with 4.30 rear gears and not only that but in 6th gear with a 6L80 trans and 3.27 - 3.42 rear gear will be much more pleasant and peaceful to drive on the highway at 80mph than 4.10 - 4.30 gearing would be in a 4L80 trans the difference at 80mph would be 2100 -2300 rpm with a 6L80 trans with 3.27 - 3.42 rear gearing and with a 4L80 trans with 4.10 - 4.30 rear gearing 2900 - 3200 rpm if both had lockup torque converters
Hey bro I was looking your video when you installed those long pipe headers, and I saw your headliner, I have a single cab covered on Grey suede, I would like to send it yo you, it would look good on the truck., where are you located? ??
just FYI you don't even have to rebuild a 4l80 for boost. a buddy of mine has a 4l80 in his drag truck that's making 1200 to the wheel with a 9.3 quarter mile time and all he has is a shift kit. although if you have more money to spare in not saying don't rebuild it but if you don't got the money you don't need to do that.
Nice 👍 Quick question. What would be a fun street combo for a a bit heavier extended cab truck. Say, cam, tq converter and rear end gears for an N/A 5.3/4l80 combo
Haven’t got to that point yet the truck is still NA, but if there is any issues or things to work around I’ll try to make sure I address them in the video.
Will the crossmember work for a 4x4? I have a 08 gmc sierra with the transfer case just wondering if it will work or will I need a different cross member
Nice video. Would you do anything differently if you did it again? I have a 05 4x4 Yukon 5.3L. 233,000 miles. Looking to get a used cheap broken 4L60/65/70 to rebuild with my teen as a DIY learning project. To have ready. I found a used one for $60, with nothing but Reverse working. Thanks!
That’s awesome, got to get them started young haha. Honestly I don’t have much to complain about I’m pretty happy with the results. If had to choose some stuff I probably would have upgraded the clutch steels to kolene steels and as well as some other upgrades in the transmission but then again if you’re doing a factory rebuild it’s kind of irrelevant. But yeah just addressing common issues, just to make it that more reliable.
Great video, only thing that bothered me was you keep looking at the camera screen and not the lens so it looks like your looking at someone behind us. Look me in the eyes when your talking to me!
I just saw your video on the 4l80e conversion and you said the flexplate is on Amazon i have a 2005chevy silverado 1500 5.3 vortec LM7 too and it says that it doesn't fit . Is that because of the conversion to the 4l80e
it literally took 5 minutes and a small flathead to unpin 3 wires from that, unpin the black and tan wire, brown wire, and white wire. Put the brown wire where the white wire was, then take the other 2 wires and get a gm 254 connector from any parts store. To rep in the computer which you would have to do anyways, take the white wire located at pin 79 C1 (blue) needs moved to pin 22 on the other connector black and tan located at pin 42 C2 needs moved to pin 23 on C2. there you have it, a perfectly factory wiring that took 10 bucks for that 254 piece
Correct, you don’t need a new computer. All you need is the wire adapter and a segment swap/tune to get it going. You also need a 4l80e dip stick with tube, I forget to mention this in the video I think.
@@ErikRose_ Hahahh dang, I didn't buy it cause like 3 months ago my friend who does transmissions said the swap is a lot of work and money, decided to let him build out the 4l65e for more power and durability instead. What a good deal that sucker was 400 bucks glad to see someone who races got it.

Honestly the Michigan one has been great so far, but yet again I only have a few hundred miles on it. But I think it will be fine I don’t see it being an issue. I have seen some issues with people having an issue with the PCM, they just don’t require you to do a segment swap but might still need some tuning to dial in the shift points. I just prefer doing a segment swap and then dialing in the shift points.
Take the 4l60 and find a stock 4.8 with some ring gap and a lil turbski and maybe drop it in something small, Itll give the 4Llimpy a little longer chance to survive being in a lighter car lol
