First rule to Reality Tv, you must protect yourself because the production company is not going to. I wanted to take the time to address something that Mykelti brought up on her Patreon. According to Mykelti, as a child she had a rough relationship with Meri. When she mentioned this relationship she was told by TLC that the show Sister Wives is in jeopardy of being cancelled. This is a heavy lift anyone. Essentially, Mykelti was told to keep her mouth shut or her parents jobs would be terminated.

K&R are the ones worried about the show being cancelled. They want Mykelti to zip it and she is super suggestible so they can tell her that TLC is gonna cancel if you keep yapping and she will believe it. Reality is that the show is coming to a natural conclusion and Kody has no marketable skills or true work experience. They are worried about their financial future in a way that the OG3 aren’t.
You hit the nail on the head! I think Kody knows if the show goes so does Robyn! That’s how he got her in the first place she wanted to be on TV and was willing to do anything to get there!
I completely agree, I HIGHLY doubt that TLC was talking about canceling the Brown's over allegations of Meri being "abusive" they're not even specific allegations, these kids can't even say what type of abuse it was. I think Robyn convinced Kody, the other wives and some of the kids that Meri was abusive. Ysabell lived with Meri, Gwen said Meri is "sweet" and all of Janelle's boys meet up with Mary for dinner and hang out with her, she can't be that bad.

Film crews on these shows should be mandated reporters when you think about it. They are in unique positions to see families for long periods of time in various environments including their homes. If they see signs of abuse they should be mandated to report it.
They won't. Ratings and money are most important at the end of the day.
They surely should. Public school employees are required and they’re not involved to the level as these tv crews are. A person who is a witness to possible abuse, murder, kidnapping, any crime is held accountable for reporting. If they refuse they’ll charged for it and possibly jailed for it.

I agree. *I just watched footage of Robem kicking the dogs head to move it out of her way.* Robem has reached new lows, even for her. Allegedly she has done this twice to the same dog, with footage each time. Footage is on the channel, Down the Rabbit Hole at Bedtime, show called 3.New Sister Wives Footage: Robyn is Selfless Queen. I'm an animal lover and this is unexcusable. TLC does nothing about abuse, so could we get her charged for cruelty abuse to an animal 2x. If she's doing this in public, what's she doing in private? That dog should be removed from their custody. I can't begin to speculate why she would do this, unless it's K's dog and R is jealous of anyone or anything that gets in the way of devotion toward herself. James, could you please address this serious issue?

Probably nothing lol. Christine and her children have a tendency to over exaggerate situations. I think Meri was the disciplinary sister mom/wife while Janelle was working career driven sister mom/wife and Christine was overgrown immature sister mom/wife/babysitter who played with the kids and didn’t enforce any rules which explains the behaviors of 2 of her kids. Watching old episodes Christine’s kids always had some 💩 going always lol.

I remember one time during filming Mykelti was instructed by Meri to go change her top. Meri was very firm, but also clear with saying I love you and I am not going to let you wear that. I can see down your shirt… or something along those lines. Mykelti was pushing back and showing out. I think it simply boils down to Mykelti not liking anyone to tell her what to do. I also think she may have likes someone on the film crew and wanted to dress up for them or just in general when filming.

I wonder if Kody and Meri were united on child punishment, whatever that was, and Robyn drove a wedge there, maybe justifiably, and cast Kody in a good light and Meri in a bad light.

Let me just of all the 18 kids, Mykelti was most rebellious and hard to handle. I’m sure Meri got on to her for some of the behavior. I remember one scene where some of the kids were teasing and giving the younger kids a hard time. Meri ripped into them and told them it was not right for them to treat each other. Meri made the comment she could another adult to help her out. Christine strikes as the mom who plays with her kids, Janelle is away from her kids and spends quality time with the kids. Robyn’s kids would never do anything wrong. Kody doesn’t strike me as a parent who disciplines the kids, if he does it would be, discipline and leave. Meri may have been the only one that consistently kept the kids in line.
Spot on response. Christine played with her kids and didn’t really parent them which resulted in 2 of them being out of control. I always thought(still do) thought Christine has ADHD
I heard just the other day that MyKelty had stolen Meri’s car at one time. I don’t know if this is true or not…If that were true and she got in trouble for it that could be a reason MyKelty doesn’t like Meri. I had never heard that before. Have you?
Glad for his point. The kids learn from the parents. Teens are natural brats and M being no exception (according to folks in comments), she is going to be especially bratty with someone I'm sure they've heard their mom's condemn and their dad berate (or hear the moms dismiss her relationship with the patriarch). I think it’s clear that TLC doesn’t look out for any children in their reality series. There should be a legal system in place to look after every child in one of these series to make sure they are emotionally, physically and financially taken care of. It’s evident, especially financially, that kids in these series get nothing. Their parents screw them out of every cent.
I think TLC should also be obligated to look out for any abuse toward animals. I completely agree. TLC promotes the strangest lifestyles while pretending to be a safe channel. 20+ children in one family is strange. Polygamists are strange. MILF Manor is just disgusting. I think the people running TLC have strange sexual ideations and have promoted their strangeness under cover of a good name. The Learning Channel. It's become like the History Channel full of ancient alien nonsense.

Meri IS a bully. All the kids have traumatic responses towards her. For her to act as if Christine was wrong for telling the ring story basically expecting some high level of priority from her, when she had no problem making Christine feel like the villian for leaving her toxic and abusive relationship with Kody just validates the entitled and hypocritical attitude she has. She is the aggressor. She stood with Robyn and treated Christine like she was not allowed to leave her horrible marriage, she should just sit in the misery like she does because of some delusional cult theory she believes in. She didn't support her one bit.
Robyn didn't support any of those women when they left Kody, but Robyn expects all of them to support Kody in his mess with the other women. Robyn is married to a man who left his children for her. We know all we need to know there.
Look at how TLC didn't cover anything with the Duggers. There is no way that the entire production crew missed the entire situation there.

Melting down a ring to make another implies that he didnt even have enough negative feeling towards Meri to pawn it. He thought of the enitire relationship as "useless" so he made something out of it that he found aesthetically pleasing. The implication that at the end of the day he is merely an opportunist scamming women out of their hard-earned cash is finally evident.

I disagree about Kody not wanting to pawn the ring in favor of melting it down: Kody wanted to obliterate any trace of his marriage to Meri. If Kody were to simply pawn the ring, the ring would still be in existence and may have even somehow miraculously made its way back into Meri’s hands. Kody made sure that would not be possible because he destroyed it. No more marriage & no more symbol of the marriage 🔥💍

Kate (Kate plus 8) institutionalized Collin as a boy, they left him there, no birthdays, no Christmas, nothing for years!! and refused to tell his father where he was. TLC funded. TLC is dangerous for children. It needs to change.
I can’t imagine how difficult it was for Mary being with two other wives who are pumping out babies while she can’t have anymore. Woman who have been in that position know how painful it is just to be around other women having babies but to live in the same house. Could you imagine being treated like a non-person by Kody only keeping you on for the money and non-divorce beliefs, meanwhile having the other wives kids trotted through your room? TLC likely put a stop to it due to previous problems on other shows. These allegations did not come up until after Christine left, and the dog piling on Meri by Christine’s family began. Past shows show Meri getting along with all the kids, including Paedon and Mykelti.
What a teen perceives as abuse is often not abuse at all. TLC may have questioned the crew, who stated they saw no evidence of abuse, then told those talking that they could be sued for libel or slander. The defense for these types of charges is simple, if it’s the truth. If it isn’t the truth they lose.
This season has been a Meri redemption arc, which TLC hasn’t done for her before. This is telling. I personally think that TLC may be doing this because Meri was unfairly accused of abuse.
There are 17 seasons of the kids being perfectly okay and even seeking Meri out. This speaks volumes.
Mykelti wasn’t treated well by her own mother either. Mykelti literally left home because her mother couldn’t control the bullying in her home. Christine is no saint and people worshiping her is sick!

I like your take on this. I know these kids aren't little anymore, but if ya know anything about grown adult dysfunction you'll find a common pattern... the adult still carries childhood wounds. Usually they come off as big wounded children. The fact is that no matter how old the kids are they'll still always be their parents kids, and unless the parents grow up and come to the kids to find ways to mend and heal then they'll always have that unresolved or in denial. That's not healthy, especially for the adult kids partner and friendship relationships, or for the next generation.

These guys have all been toxic: Janelle in her grimey move coveting Meri's husband (her sister-in-law's, no less), joining with little to no grace (current behavior being the indicator), teaming up with Kristine, who has been shocking toward Meri on camera...can just imagine off- (remember her venomous behavior toward Meri when she missed Axel's birth?? She had shown up but after). Not all the kids hate Meri, and that's great...good sign.

The kids are adults now. I'm pretty sure the adults didn't make trust funds for the time they were on the show JUST LIKE the Duggars. They have every right to speak about their experiences and make money if they can. No one, including TLC should be able to exploit them any further.

If one is going to make mega accusations in public, do it properly, speak to people, prepare siblings to back you up, and there is a whole justice system out there who will support victims of abuse of matter what. Yeah. It's a different era. I'm from a time when the wooden spoon was taken out, or a flip flop was thrown at the kid. The pants were dropped and the spanking began. My dad took off his belt to keep my brothers in line. We were always told what we did wrong and dang but we never did it again. And none of us went to jail. Sure there are different discipline methods now, but I'm pretty sure Meri's from an era where the polyg cult never researched better ways to discipline.
Meri tattled to Kody. She played first favorite wife for years. She couldn’t be trusted. Meri knows why the OG’s don’t have a relationship with her. Her daughter knows also. Her indoctrination and plural marriage brought all this survival mode out. It’s just a shame they put themselves thru this.

Excellent points, James! Beyond the reality part, there should have been a non-abusive, loving but structured parenting plan followed by all parents. There should have been parameters on what the non-biological moms can or cannot do. TLC should vet the families and put in their own parameters in order to continue filming.
I think Mykelti holds grudges, she’s very much like Kody, IMHO. And I think it’s interesting that Kody says he can’t stand being around Meri and has shunned her for years. And who’s the child desperately trying to stay in Kody’s good graces? I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
As viewers, this also goes back on us. Now that we know that something serious occurred that TLC wants not to be discussed, and that the parents are ok with this... Why are we enabling that by continued viewership? It's making me think about that.

Great point. It does feel like they use the term "safe" to describe any situation/conversation that makes them feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately, life is full of uncomfortable situations so we have to learn to deal with it not run away.

@@DailyRollcall Yes, actually the Mormon doctrine teaches that they are Kings and Queens unto their husband's and wives. They are The Elect. Doctrine specifically uses those 2 terms as teachings phrases. This gives them the superior edge on the rest of the common folk plebs who are not the elect therefore they have to do missionarywork to redeem the great unwashed a.k.a. anybody who isn't baptized into the faith. I'd bet that the break-off groups share the same LDS teaching foundations.
Thank you about speaking out about this James. I see a lot of people justify meris alleged abuse and I appreciate you for validating Mykelti regardless of her other takes on the family.
While it is important to validate a child's abuse it's equally important to protect adults from being wrongfully accused. I saw a man's life demolition for being accused of incest after his adult daughter heard about her friend's story and associated it to herself. The family were LDS mormon and the sickness was far reaching, but the dad died a few months later because he couldn't handle being wrongfully accused. Later the daughter admitted she didn't have an actual memory of that. I suspect all the garbage beliefs were conflated in her mind, body and emotions and just released and lashed out at her dad. Her dad and her had always had a good relationship. When the said woman first told me I didn't accuse her or her dad, but I knew she had some head problems, so kept telling her that they need to take lie detector tests and other types of counseling to get to the root of it. Of course the family is entrenched in the cult habit of hiding secrets, so that never happened. If you had a kid that claimed you abused them wouldn't you want some protection? We don't know what these abuse allegations are. For that reason their stories (whatever those are cos they aren't telling) need to be approached neutrally.
That said, we do know that there were a lot of kids and C and J and R were M.I.A., while K was a loose cannon. If it was a matter of yelling hell I'd be yelling as a parent too under those identical circumstances. Their circumstances are all crap as AUB acceptable discipline traditions are very religious and not very modern. Meri may have been acting how they were taught, and how she was treated as an AUB child. Janelle was raised LDS, which shares similar problems. The silence is deafening. If it were horrific abuse I'd think that by now the adults, or someone in TLC would have reported it. Mind you, TLC didn't report Robem kicking the dogs head in 2x so that the dog flew. So who knows.

I've wondered if it was actually Curlylocks and Crybrows that told Mykelti that TLC was going to shut down the show to shut her up. Mykelti herself has admitted she wants to believe whatever he dad tells her. And both she and Tony protect Crybrows every chance they get. I have also wondered what TLC knows about this supposed abuse from Meri. Three of the kids have said that their dad was even worse! Defintely and interesting study in dysfunctional human behavior!!!

@@becky9103 I'm not making excuses for M, but she stayed in a relationship being mentally and emotionally tormented by K for years, because she couldn't have kids. She still gave money although she was made fun of and threatened to be relegated to the barndominium as a reminder of her zero status. So this was ongoing abuse from K. K also said he had to ex M because M was trying to take his control from him ( E18 S1.) M might very well be too controlling on the man, and that's an AUB taboo for any SW. She must stay sweet and know her place under the husband and not criticize. Another AUB taboo which C got the consequences of being shunned for (so says K in E18 S1). When M was heavily abused by K, and stayed in the relationship for years, I could see her temper escalating into crazy town. Or MORE crazy town. I could see her taking it out on the kids and wives. She was the wife who was no good and couldn't breed to expectation standards. I'm not excusing it, but I def could see it happening, especially when J & C didn't look like they were very consistent disciplinarians and M already had anger, jealousy emotions of all kinds.

What we have learned this season and what I like to call the "tell nothing" is they either lied to us in the past 17 seasons or they're rewriting history now and lying to us now. Either way, this family has lied to us. We are not idiots and understand some of the storylines were forced and they created opportunities for engagement for this family. However, the picture perfect family they tried to sell us for years seems to have been a lie all along. Going back this summer and re-watching the first 16 seasons hits differently now that we know what we know. Things stand out that before we may have glossed over because we were buying their ideal of this family.
Mykelti has known to Not get along with her parents also. I don't agree with the story she is telling. I don't know what went on with her, Paiden and Maddie. Even Paidon does not say Meri ever put her hands on them. Gwen loves her dad even though she stated her dad threw her up against a wall. Why did Mykelti go live with Robyn. Everyone says she was having issues at home. My understanding Meri was mean and did not tolerate bad behavior. Paidon picked on younger children. I don't trust Mykelti or Paidon. Just my opinion.
I remember Paedon was a handful who need some strong discipline and re-direction and consequences for his actions. Usually they don't like it when they're kids but it makes sense when they become adults.
Mykelti seems to be upset w/Meri when it suits her, because for a while she was actually part of Meri's "downstream" MLM clothing scam. They all follow the money

I wonder if Meri was in reality the only one that disciplined the children. I feel Christine may have spoiled them and Janelle was too busy trying to provide for everyone. I may be wrong, but I’ve noticed that a spoiled child will say they are being mistreated if one of the parents tries to finally discipline them!
I think Meri was a more strict parent. I have been doing a rewatch we know hindsight is 20/20, I am looking and the happy faces are their but when they think the cameras not looking the eye rolls, facial expressions of exasperation crack me up. I think the infertility issues raised extremely hurt feelings and I believe Christine and Janelle could have pressed that button with harsh words when angry.
Nothing on that show was real. Your rewatches wouldn't show the beginning of the family or the kids experiences growing up. The show also stopped certain behaviors. The fact that Meri's own child cut her off at one point is telling to me

Footage is on the channel, Down the Rabbit Hole at Bedtime, show called 3.New Sister Wives Footage: Robyn is Selfless Queen. I'm an animal lover and this is unexcusable. TLC does nothing about abuse, so could we get her charged for cruelty abuse to an animal 2x. If she's doing this in public, what's she doing in private? That dog should be removed from their custody. I can't begin to speculate why she would do this, unless it's K's dog and R is jealous of anyone or anything that gets in the way of devotion toward herself. James, could you please address this serious issue?
TLC is business whose prime directive is "make money". and to expect them to act otherwise may be naive. As per the threat to cancel the show, that most strongly affects people who are reliant on the show to support themselves. Hmmm? Mykelti, Tony, and three very young children, yet none of them has a real job. You bet they'll toe the line to keep their major, if not only, income stream supporting them.
I believe most families edit what to share publicly. Hopefully it is more of a "please don't tell the ____ story in your speech at the wedding" and not "don't anyone that talk Uncle ____ is a predatory paedophile.

I don't believe that was abuse as far as Meri. From Mykelti's account she was TOLD that Meri was abusive and that she got the lions share of it. I think that all the parents parent differently and Meri was a yeller. I also, believe all of the parents support corporal punishment. Meri being the least liked by everyone is of course the one getting all the heat.
Completely agree that the kids deserve to have their voices heard as much as the parents.
My concern is that we're expected to believe everything we hear, without knowing if it's rumor. One incident, or even based on a lie. Without proof, how do we judge?
Kids often use the "abuse" card, when it's only a parent being strict. Also, I've heard Mykelty say she would like her mom and dad to make up. That's a kids wish, not an adults wish. When my parents divorced after 25 years of pure torture for my mom, my 3 younger siblings cried and begged my mom to take my dad back. Which she didn't do. And when she married my step dad, they claimed they hated him. That is until they saw how differently he treated mom. It took several years before they actually decided that it was mom who married him, and he treated her like a queen. That's when they started appreciating him for the good guy he was.
Mykelty may be an adult, but she too was raised in the cult, so even her thinking could still be a bit off.

Sure, but what were the exact abuse allegations? If was throwing a flip flop at them for being tyrant brats, then the kids haven't realized that Meri is from a different era where polyg parents were very old school hands-on with discipline. My parents were very religious old school and it took me 2 minutes to figure out that modern views of discipline is very different than what they used. They all need counseling to help those grown kids.

I want to know so badly what Mari did to mykelti …. Mykelti constantly alluding to all this abuse but never saying what it was automatically makes me think it was verbal and physical … but I don’t think oh you not tapped in the mouth for being nasty rather you got backhanded … or rather than someone who will not put up with a disrespectful child and bring strict with that (because I can totally see Mari being the strict “mom” out of all of them. I can see Janelle being the “do whatever you want just don’t burn the house down or break any bones” mom and Christine is the flowery mom and the delicate mom who even if her kids were out of control, which they weren’t at least on tv, she’d still try going out things in the same way even though it’s clearly not working) being just all out nasty and constantly screaming at her and just taking it to the highest level ….. because the other kids said KODY was the abusive one, he’s the one who hit or paddled … Gwen said he used to throw her up in the air and left bruises on her …. And this maybe the unpopular opinion however, I think that Christine was wrong for not just staying on track with the whole Mary, noticing Cody‘s new ring in the scene at her house, but deciding that, even though she clearly knew it was not her story to be telling that fuck it I’m gonna do it anyway i’m putting a story out there that Mary had never told, clearly something that was extremely hurtful and painful for Mary… And I know people are saying, Mary never told it because she was protecting Cody and that may be true to an extent, but when something is that painful and hurtful and embarrassing I wouldn’t want to be telling the world about it either. I also know that Mary’s catfish had put it out there along with a bunch of other stuff and no one ever knew if it was true or not but again it wasn’t Mary that put it out there for the world she told, one person, they told the world. I love Christine she’s 100% my favorite and that’s not changing but I do think that she was wrong for doing what she did and I think that she owes Marie an apology. And not her interview with Janelle acting like it wasn’t that big of a deal, and that she has culpability. Meri told the ring story to the catfishing person in that catfishers book. At the time, nobody could confirm it because TLC edits the crap that they put out, and the 5 don't tell the truth to the public while still having a public platform. If it were all private I'd say yes, but it's public.

I think Christine is trying to tell some truth as it affects them all, and still deny other truths when it might be too hard for her to confront. I don't agree with Christine's denial choice not to seek counseling, because that choice also involves how she might relate to kids, and go public. These 5 are all about protecting in denial for themselves. At this stage it's kinda too late for that. I agree with James on this one. Christine gets to be the bad guy, while Kody gets another free pass, even though the ring thing really affected Christine and her kids, like a knife to their liver. In real life they might have the luxury of cherry picking their crap, but this is a TLC show about polyg that should be about the truth. It seems like they're all programmed to hide the truth and protect polyg and Kody.
It's also interesting that Kody used the word liver. In ancient Chinese medicine the liver has a specific relation to the psyche. They don't seem to care to explore health, and Meri's boundaries are misplaced because her and Christine didn't have a good relationship.
Notice Kody's placement of his arm on the table. Was it scripted to show the ring and cause more drama? Or was that an unconscious behavioral pattern. Rob'ems response played the avoidance denial card.

I think there are a couple of important factors here. 1) When the alleged abuse took place. If it was prior to the show, I don't think you can contend that TLC is complicit. Even if they have hot mic material of someone discussing the past, they aren't obligated to air it. 2) what contractual obligation does Mykelti have with TLC right now? If she's airing dirty laundry on her platform while under contract with TLC, I can see the conflict of interest. I don't know who threatened her, but clearly the profit of the show continuing is her priority. If she was abused, that sucks big time. However, I'm not sure I agree that she's being mistreated now. She's a grown woman and her decisions have consequences. She could drop TLC and write a book. She could walk into the sunset and never associate with the show again. For me, she's just a milder version of her dad with some questionable scruples. I don't condone child abuse and even more disgusted by parental coverup but I'm more concerned with whether it was handled correctly by the family at the time than I care about it being shared for the world to comment on.
