Been watching and rewatching this video during random times over the last couple months, and I’ve begun to realize... this may be the most beautiful marimba performance I’ve ever watched. Thank you.
Sometimes I like to learn my solo's from the ending to the beginning and then rep a ton to make sure I have a strong closer. Would you recommend that techniue for this piece, or should I learn it from beginning to end?
Ginni Strehle the end and beginning are quite similar and probably the easiest to execute (in terms of technique). the beginning is easy to learn and i'd recommend starting there to familiarize yourself with the theme and character of the piece. then look at the end, it'll be very similar and you can figure out how to tie everything together. finally, get into the middle section and make it special! i learned beginning to end and that worked for me, so do whatever you feel comfortable with. thanks for watching!
@@Vortex-i4j biggest piece of advice i got when preparing this was “wait.” e.g. in the intro - wait for the bars to barely stop ringing before playing the next entrance
This is absolutely stunning. I’ve listened to this so many times and many for different reasons. The first time was when I was looking for competition solo ideas, and then I re watched it simply because I wanted to hear it again. And now because I wanted to know how it was set up microphone wise. Do you remember how you set them up? I’ve recently wanted to start getting into recording marimba. I can see the microphones above, but did you have any below the resonators at all? Thanks!
I don't know if anyone is trying to find out what mallets he is using now since it has been about 7 years since the release of this video. But I am pretty sure that he is using Marimba one round sound mallets.
technically, this solo is pretty accessible. musically, there’s a lot you can do. there’s one lick that’s a bit tricky, especially if you have a limited reach... but i would never discourage someone from attempting it! the worst that can happen is it’s too hard and you have to put it away for a few months. nothing wrong with that. depending on the freshman it could be anywhere from a 1-10, haha. i guess i’d say about 6? 7?
How was it learning this piece for you? I’m currently working on it for my senior recital and I just keep hitting walls with it. My deadline is quickly approaching and I was wondering if you had any tips on how to go about this piece
IP Mark Ford Greens, I think 114s?... but they don't make em like they used to. if I could've I would've used something a little heavier down low, but otherwise they're great mallets. I think I'd use IP TB2s if I were to play this again!
I am learning this for my solo and ensemble contest and was wondering how long it would take for a novice like me to learn it as I have only 1 month to get it learned. Is it do-able?
John Cenna If you actually looked at the music and listened to all the small details of this solo you would recognize it's greatness. Alex Stopa did a great job with it.
Sounds like morning dew drops creating this song, heavenly
After all of the marimba covers I’ve heard you’re by far is my favorite. I love the phrasing

...jk youre a god c:
lol he spent all his money on mics.
@@noahnewsom3089 and a 5 octave rose wood marimba. Those things expensive..... I want
@@bodekaanta83 Wait, not all marimbas are rosewood? I thought that was the whole purpose of a marimba

What mallets are you using? they sound amazing! great video btw, sound control is fantastic and you really bring a lot of emotion to the piece ❤
I get the idea behind the blurriness, however, it hurts my eyes

Any mallet recommendations for this piece for solo & ensemble contest?

On a scale from 1 - 10 how hard is this for a 14 year old freshmen in high school
Im 5'3" by the way

Dillon Stephenson just do it, and also have a 5 octave marimba ahahahah
sounds like blue devils 2014
Is that a Marimba One 5 Octave marimba, or..?
Kyle Rannells yes!

Were you filming this with a potato?
marcel-nine-one-one no, this was filmed with a camera!
Through a potato?
it's supposed to be like that, dude. besides, even bad quality cameras won't look like this.
@@lameimpala8426 its definitely not supposed to look this

+Evan Jose Thanks for the response, I loved your performance!
How long did it take you to learn this ( I'm in 10th grade) and wanna learn this for fun
Timothy Carreon i learned it in ~4ish days but spent a few weeks refining.
Did you add reverb to this audio?
nope, it’s just pure resonance my guy, power of a 5 octave at its finest
Nice music. but you need a better camera. Out of focus. Unless you want it that way.
nothing wrong with the camera, just the guy who didn’t focus it properly (me!)

I think you need to work on your focus.
Arrangement was very weak soumds like a UNLV student arrangement
John Cenna What an awful comment. Do some research into Alex Stopa.
Also, I wonder if you could arrange so beautifully?
