This movie was so CRAZY and CONFUSING but we loved it!! I give it a 9.5/10 since they never explained where the tethered came from, but we would love to hear your thoughts about the movie if you have seen it!

Just got back from the theater watching “Us” and I love it! Super creepy and yet very creative!! Jordan Peele really did a great job!
I felt bad for both characters honestly
The real mom spent years below with creepy copies of people she doesn't know, had a husband and kids she didn't want, all of that ultimately driving her insane all she wanted was a normal life.
Doppelganger mom spent all of this time above and as far as we know didn't kill or harm anyone she was living a normal life above apposed to living below in anguish.
Both of these characters just wanted the same thing. Not to be Underground
I CRIED when I saw it the second time realizing what everyone had gone through. That ballet dancing scene got me.😥
Facts I was like wow So the mom is actually the doppelganger
Even the real mom says something like "Who knows what it would've been like if you just took me with you." Really unsettling when you think about it. 💜
She didn’t have to switch places they couldn’t they both go upstairs and the dipole hanger go to like a different country or state

Things I noticed on my second watch.
• The noise that Abraham (tethered Gabe) was yelling at on the boat was the tethered white dad. (When he gets on his boat when fighting Gabe he then makes that same noise)
• When Red was explaining the story, she says when Ombre (tethered Zora) and Pluto (tethered Jason) ombre was born laughing (she died laughing) and Pluto was born in fire (he died in fire), it also explains why Adelaide had been upset when the tethered kids died.
• Kitty (white mom) on the beach she was clearly jealous of Adelaide's natural beauty, she clearly doesn't always get along with her husband, even joking that she would murder him and even mentioned that she had plastic surgery. When the tethered Kitty showed up, she pointed at her cheekbones and then sliced her cheek and when the tethered white dad was killed, Kitty's doppleganger started laughing.
• Looking back at the movie, knowing that the tethered Adelaide was the one we were following, it explains why she was willing to handcuff herself, why she looked more freaked out than her family, why she was so paranoid bc she knew the real Adelaide was always coming for her.
Also. The Thriller t-shirt is not only a reference to how the music video ended, but how the film itself will end.

You think Jason is a Tether too? They were both off beat, he had weird eating habits throughout the movie, he seemed to know what was up when they first invaded the house, and he figured out the body mirroring real quick.

I think they mentioned its not their first time going to the vacation house. Seemed like he had a thing for hiding. Would’ve be kinda easy to swap him out while he was hiding. But maybe I’m reaching. Lol
Rex J. Nah he cant be because the Doubles didnt know how to speak. He did so he couldnt have been one. Its crazy because when they were showing the flashbacks of the girl, she was silent n never spoke to her parents after she was taken because she couldnt speak! She had to learn all them years. Lol its crazy
The ending was one of the biggest twist I have ever seen.
I predict the ending early on. The clues were quite palpable, especially when she killed one of the doopleganger twin and her son watched her in shock.

I saw the movie with my dad and sister and the people in the movie was so annoying af but we rewatched it at home and it was a good movie
This movie is all about privilege and how you should be great full for what you have...
Zora was talking about quitting track when running is a useful tool and something that she ended up needing to get away.
Jason played too much, scaring his sister into the closet, and ultimately getting locked in. He also played with that spark and while he was sad it wasn’t working, look at Pluto over here who played so much with fire that he burned himself.
Gabe was so worried about another man and what he had, when that man ended up getting bodied along with his whole family.
The moral of the story is take advantage of what opportunities you have and be thankful for what you have because somebody could snatch that from you at anytime.
I actually felt bad for the guys in red. Especially Lupita's character.

@@Scoobniy the people below are direct mimics of their real selves above ground except the ones below hav a more darker, unpleasant type of life and dont experience the happiness that their real selves feel, like there's one scene where adelaide (the real one at the time) picks out a shirt and her dad smiles and gives it to her but underground adelaide is just given the shirt with her dad smiling more creepy like and she snatches the shirt
Yeah I felt extremely bad for her because unlike the mimics she knew what it was like to have a better life. For example the “idea” that if you live a totally bad life in solitude then so will never want a better life because you don’t know that a better life exists. That’s why it took so long for the mimics to finally act because it took Adelaide to finally show them that there is a better world and this isn’t where life ends. The mimics didn’t know how painful their life was because again they didn’t know that a better life existed but Adelaide did know and she knew the feeling of that loss. Its heartbreaking when you rethink the line when she said “imagine what it could’ve been like if you took me with you”. They both could’ve gone up and went their separate ways. Red took something (a life) that wasn’t hers to begin with

I just realized that when Evil Adelaide chained the other Adelaide up with the cuffs it was a reference to when Adelaide chained her to the bed

I think Red told Jason the truth about who Adelaide was and because he had seen her grunting and acting like a tethered before he was just sort of left thinking like "dang my mommas a clone"
Mitzrayim orrrrr Jason in red is the real boy and they switched previously before this movie.....he’s always wandering off in this movie. that explains him not knowing how to do the magic trick until after he and Pluto in the closet

KonsciousKoonKiller 22 because technically that’s the one she birthed...however both moms can have the same tie with either boy because they’re all essentially the same thing....she doesn’t like him going into that fire....
But she sympathized more with the cloned boy because each mother can identify with the opposite son that each are caring for....
When red is pressing Adelaides face into the table, you hear Pluto crying in the closet. She tells red: that ones yours. The human boy that was switched....just as red is the human that was switched. “That ones yours...”
Makes sense to me. Her bond is with clone son. Just like the human mom bonded with the human boy

That was the significance of him going back into the house and seeing her kill the twin... I would be suspicious if my mom were making noises just like the tethered too.

There’s a theory that Red(real Adelaide) told Jason who his mom was before hiding him in that locker when she felt Adelaide(the clone) coming.
I believe that when Red took Jason she told him everything about "the real adelaide" and that's how he was so scared when his "mom" tried to convince him that she was okay and that everything was okay.

So my reasoning is that the doppelgänger mom is the real one that is why she was the only one that could talk both human and tether

One thing I just realized was they didn't initiate the attack until the family returned to the summer home AFTER "grandma died". This is because Red didn't want her mother on the surface killed by her doppelganger.

Remember Red said that they decided to make clones, then they tethered them to keep the ones ABOVE in check but something went wrong and they abandoned the project then forgot about them down there.

Try to imagine yourself in a complete psychotic frenzy, you've had no socialization, and lived your entire life in, what is essentially, a completely unsupervised, insane asylum, of mind boggling scale (miles in length, I'd imagine). Basically, yourself as a feral animal, whose sole purpose in existence is to murder the shit out of you. Think you could take yourself, under those circumstances. Me, personally, if I didn't get the drop on me (which I likely would, not gonna lie), I could outsmart an animal that thought like me.
I believe Jason knows. When he put on the mask at the end, that was his way of promising not to tell Adelaide’s secret. I also believe Adelaide felt bad for the Ombre and Pluto because they were the kids that she could’ve ended up with and deep down it hurt her to see a version of her children die. To justify the plot twist for anybody, I believe it was a reference to the use of juxtaposition in Rear Window. Jordan Peele was definitely inspired by the film and put it in a timeline of revolutionary horror/suspense films. The main concept is that we may connect things that we see out of context. We all connected Adelaide to the original girl because we see flashbacks in relation to her fear and ended up correlating Red’s experience to Adelaide’s emotions. Basically, we had no real proof that those flashbacks at Santa Cruz were really Adelaide’s. We just believed what we could see....
I was confused and scratching my head at the end, but I started to take the film as small metaphors and pieced them together and it all sort of made sense. The message I got in the end made me appreciate the ambiguity of the film. I could be wrong, but this is the best thing I could think of.
Basically, we all, as imperfect humans, have something deep within ourselves that we just want to lock away and compartmentalize; but it's us. The scissors represent that we're always trying to cut off these imperfections and flaws we have; trying our best to hide it. We eventually have to confront our fears and the thing we're afraid of the most--the only thing holding you back from achieving your goals and dreams is YOU.
I believe the actual handcuffs are the tethers representing that no matter how hard you try to cut off those imperfections and run away from them, they're always going to be apart of you because it's YOU. It's what makes US human, so we all eventually have to FIND OURSELVES--accept all the flaws and allow them to give you power to become the best person you can be. Adelaide talked about how she danced and she told her daughter that she could do anything she set her mind to, even being in the Olympics. Zora didn't believe in herself, but her parents believed in her. Sometimes we're the evil we're so afraid of.
I believe that the Hands Across America is the power we would have as humans, to make a change and to make the world a better place, if we all found ourselves and accepted those parts. The clones represent the fear and evil we have within ourselves, the things we try so hard to hide and push away, but in the end everyone found themselves at one point in time; whether it was in Santa Cruz or somewhere else in the US because it did state that the tunnels are huge all across America (where the clones were). Or some people still have yet to find themselves. Adelaide's son, Jason, sort of had a sinister smile in the end. I thought maybe he was a clone, too.
When it was revealed that Adelaide was a clone, I believe the film is asking, "If the evil was you all along, then why were you so afraid of yourself?" It turns out that Adelaide's clone wasn't so "evil" since she went on to do great things with dancing and even started a family. Or maybe the clones are actually US, fighting off the things that hold us back the most; they're our darkest fears, our baggage, and our misfortunes. And what if we're all just clones.
We all might have clones (or our true potential/self) locked up somewhere feeding on raw rabbits, begging to be let out...
Yea the little boy does know the mom is the duplicate bc she made that noise that the rest of them do and the sene when she was whistling when she killed her was the same one in the beginning so the little boy knows and I wonder if will tell the rest of his family

another way you can look at it is what if the tethered is our conscious. we constantly fight the bad side of us and the good side of us and we try to balance it out and combine it with into one person which is living above.

I literally saw this movie with my mom and we both were shocked from the ending!!!
Here's something to think about jason is Pluto and here's why the scene when pluto is backin up into the fire notice how the mom was screaming no she knew that Pluto is actually jason Pluto switched out jason and was living as jason on the surface same thing that the mom did and explains why red didn't kill jason because she birthed him and the reason why at the end when jason was looking at his mom is because he knew and she knew as well and it explains why the mom was freaking out when she thought jason was missing because she was worried about Jason being switched out and remember red could speak English so before they got switched red taught Pluto how to talk and the thing that really makes me think if jason is really Pluto is that jason created his own vocabulary that his family doesn't understand and notice how when they go to the beach instead of making a sad castle like all the other kids he makes a tunnel because that's all he's ever known I don't know when they got switched but it had to be somewhere else

i just saw it with a friend and if you’re even slightly considering watching this, watch it. it’s really good and not super scary but it does make you think a lot it’s amazing.
My interpretation of the film is that for starters "Us" = United States
The film delves deeply into the subject of what analytical psychologist Carl Jung called the Shadow of the self. Emotions like envy and jealousy can lead any individual toward proclivities of illogical and violent tendencies. It is about how the downtrodden members of society and that collective mentality of oppression can lead toward irrational and vehement projection which in turn leads to violence. The red jumpsuit can be interpreted as the "custodian" or lower class, and the red color (often associated with evil; the devil) in symbolism rising from the unconscious (the tunnels) to reek havoc on the surface shine of existence. Though out the film this theme is expressed. The father even expresses this when he is upset with his rich friend for having nicer things. Even the evil half (Good half in actuality- but shows that this envy is fluid) of Lupita expresses feelings of anger at what she was dealt in life. The last thing she watches on TV is an ideologue represented as 'Hands Across America" which was a simplistic organized benefit to assist those in poverty. In youth causes such as this may have resonated with her through her life in the tunnels as a symbolic panacea.
Another thing to notice is that for Hands Across America people had to donated $10 to reserve a place in line. Now put this in line with the song that is the theme song of the film - "I Got 5 on it"
The title is a phrase meaning to pay half of a dime bag (a $10 bag of cannabis) with another person.
“Kinda broke so ya know all I gots five, I got five”
“Unless you pull out the fat, crispy five dollar bill on the real before its history”
“I got 5 on it, let's go half on a sack”
Now this song connotates that one half of the majority is going to be represented in that protest and negate and excise the other half. The scissors were used as a metaphor to cut the tether, or to sever any sort of connection with those who are not oppressed. It is a very frightening metaphor about how the path to hell is paved with good intentions. There a lot more symbolism in film but I will hold on that until I watch it a second time.

The movie was actually filmed where I live
The name of their friend's boat. THAT was hilarious.
With the exception of the film "Straight Outta Compton," this movie had the best use of a certain NWA track.
And now, I'll go into slight spoilers.
Apparently, Zora's shirt -- that word was Vietnamese for "rabbit," which connects (tethers, in this case) it to the experiment that was happening underground. When I read what the word meant, and knew that Zora was supposed to be this great sprinter, I took that as Jordan doing an Easter egg to Get Out, since that movie started with the song "Run, Rabbit, Run."
I seen it, but the real question is does the kids have a soul ? They are half shadow people afterall.
I haven't seen it yet so I stopped the video at 0:05 😂jp
